Absent-minded professor is the best description of her father! He was a pure blooded kirin of scholarly bent who had come from across the sea with others of his kind to study the Kawani soquili and their customs. He met a lovely, adventurous and spontaneous wind soquili who proceeded to turn his quiet little world upside down! The two of them travelled together for many happy seasons until he was killed distracting a bloodthirsty skinwalker to enable his mate and young daughter to escape. Now Zhen's mother wanders ceaselessly, unable to settle into one place, trying to out-fly her grief and sad memories.
Zhen-Hui accompanied her mother for a while on her travels, but has finally realized that her mother needs to deal with her grief in her own way and that she needs to be free to find her own destiny. While exploring in the mountains, she encountered Icefyre, a legendary kirin/dragon who pledged to teach her the ways of kirin meditation. They had a pair of handsome colts and Zhen-Hui learned the inner ways of the kirin from Icefyre.
After her sons were grown and gone and Icefyre had returned to his summer slumber, she left the frozen mountain to return to warmer lands. She met a handsome fluttercorn stallion, Aranel, who had escaped from the Harpy Flock. He did not know that he had conceived children with his harpy Mistress. Neither was looking for anything permanent, but true love found a way and they became lifemates.
