That's the problem. They tried that, but he went to areas that he wasn't supposed to be at.
He then got arrested for extreme child porno.

Yes, I read this- but why are they even letting him use the Internet? confused Child sex offenders are often banned from it for this reason here.

Perhaps they thought he wouldn't do anything bad again (as if).

Oh come on. I'm the most forgiving person I know, and even I wouldn't do that. That's just stupid! Tsk, tsk.
There are still child sex offenders who do use it illegally- but at least we have rules against it! gonk

Humans in general, actually. No matter how much science or society progresses, there will always be someone raping three year olds and getting away with it or spouting racist ideals despite everyone else accepting others. It's just human nature itself, and as long as we at least keep progressing, it'll all be okay.

If only prisons were a lot bigger and that way we could hold more prisoners.

Prison overcrowding is a huge problem, I agree. The US houses one of the most prisoners in the world. gonk
To be honest, I think if they legalized drugs, it'd be a lot less crowded here. There are so many people who smoke pot that aren't violent and are in there for ten years, as opposed to the rapists who go in for maybe three years! It's ridiculous.

I believe that prisoners that commit a murder should rot in prison and never be allowed out. That right there is justice because the murderer will either die by a fellow prisoner or die of old age.

I know! It's sick. Rapists definitely do need bigger sentences.

With murder sentences, I'm kind of iffy on that. I honestly believe that people can change. It's not immediate and takes a lot of hard work, but it happens. Rapists, murderers, whatever. I think if the prison has rehab programs and that they prove themselves worthy - good behavior, noticeable change via the rehab, etc. - then they can be let go after given a decision from the court. They can be put on probation after release, and if they prove themselves worthy, they can go on with life.
I'm very iffy on the death sentence- I mean, if they rape and kill little boys, a lifetime in prison is going to keep them from being around little boys. There's no point in killing them then. However, if they don't have a certain target and are just dangerous to the population, like terrorists, then hell yes they can be executed. I also don't see the point of execution if the murderer was under the influence of drugs of any kind or was pychologically disturbed, whether they knew it was wrong or not. And of course, it's illegal to execute people with a certain IQ- which Texas obviously broke recently. stare
That's partially why I think having drugs be illegal is stupid. I mean, alcohol is extremely dangerous, whereas pot has never killed anyone- I can see why heroin, etc is illegal, but c'mon...

I am actually really against the death penality. I rather see the murderers rot in prison than a quick death.

Perhaps they could change. However, I will say that some will change and the rest will kill again.

I'd say I am execpt for that one reason. If they still will harm others in prison, then there's just no hope. They'll kill any chance they get.
I'd rather they take his/her life than risk another inmate's or officer's life. Other than that, no.

Ah, I never thought of it that way. That could be a problem, definitely.

Indeed. gonk There's a show called Lock Up here. It's a documentary of prisons: they go around the most strict prisons around the world (they've aired one episode of a Czechoslovakian prison, I think) and interview inmates, guards, etc. There was one prisoner they interviewed who had killed several inmates and guards on top of his previous murder conviction and I sat there thinking "Why the hell is this guy still around?" I really like that show, it's kinda interesting.

We had that show shown over here. It was really interesting to see how American prisons work and how much of a farce the United Kingdom prisons are compared to the American prisons. Seriously, it's like a holiday in prison in the United Kingdom.

Off topic: I would love to continue talking to you about this because you bring up good points, but I have to get to bed now.

Thanks very much for posting in my thread.

Yeah, I know how late it is there. gonk
I'm open for it any time as well, hehe. Night!
