Alex watched as Yin went up to try and scare the humans after he had sat back in his seat, but saw that the weremantis looking..almost uncomfortable, like he didn't know what to do. He wondered why he didn't just change into his natural form. It was a pretty terrifying thing, as he could attest to from the first time Yin had transformed in front of him. He was a little disappointed when the other boil didn't change, because he knew if he had that silly human in his middle cage wouldn't still be standing there looking so defiant.

As Yin sat back down beside him and leaned over towards Alex, the zomboil uncrossed his arms, and gave a small smile before slouching in his seat and turning his head so that he was at eye level with the weremantis.

"Thanks," he whispered back, "What did you do to scare the first one?" He grinned, since he could only see Yin from behind at the time, he had no idea what the weremantis had done.

He listened to what the teacher said, then straightened up a little. The last caged human was a hunter?? That was...very interesting, indeed. He kept watching as more students got up for their turns, happy to see that Xiu had joined the class at some point, and was doing a stand up job at scaring the middle human as well as the first. He almost felt like clapping for her as she came and sat down in a seat next to him, giving her a grin just as big as the one she was giving him.

"I didn't either, it's...yes, it's interesting to say the least."

Xiu couldn't help but grin at how excited Astra was--it was a rather rare opportunity for them, to be sure--but her smile faltered slight at the ghoul's question. "You...you bring up a good point," The baku frowned, her gaze drifting back towards the cages. How were they...well, still in one piece? Did the cages have any special properties, or were those bodies that the humans were currently possessing fakes, like the ones that Hunters used to enter Halloween?

So many questions. Pushing them to the back of her mind for now, she turned to smile at Yin and Alex, her tail wagging eagerly behind her. "I think this was my first time trying to scare a human! The first one wasn't too bad, the second was a lot tougher, and the third..."

The baku suddenly puffed out her cheeks, looking displeased. Honestly, she wasn't sure how to feel about the fact that they apparently had a caged Hunter in their midst. On one hand, the tides had finally turned and now they had trapped a Hunter...but on the other hand, she was not at all comfortable at having him around. More than anything, it was just of sight of the white coat and the scarf that alarmed her more than the appearance of the man himself.

"A-anyways, I'm just glad I managed to be scary at all."

It was so hard to pay attention while running on such little sleep. He loved Ash, and worried over him at potentially unhealthy levels, but his nightmares were beginning to prevent both of them from sleeping. As he sat in the classroom, he seemed dazed and distracted, mind definitely elsewhere. He nodded off every few moments as they awaited the arrival of their teacher, not even bothering to try and strike up a conversation with any of the other students. For once, he just didn't feel like it.

In spite of the professor's energetic arrival, Thackery was still lingering on the edge of sleep...until he distinctly heard a mention of "live humans." His heart skipped a beat and he sat straight up in his chair, gripping the armrests on either side of him so hard that it couldn't be healthy for anything involved.

He could hear the pounding of his pulse in his ears above the sound of anything else, holding his breath as each prisoner was revealed - all male. No pale-haired girls.

Well, this was doable, then.

As he waited his turn to near the cages, he felt a pang of guilt. What if Reine knew one of these? Humans had friends and siblings too, didn't they? But the cries and whimpers fed something in him that didn't let the guilt survive for long, overwhelming it with annoyance. They were showing so much weakness. They weren't even trying to be strong.

The Cerberus was not nearly one of the most frightening inhabitants of Halloween - not yet, at least - but his lack of sleep gave him an edge that he'd never really been able to utilize before. Pairing it with a mimicry of Insanity-haunted eyes and a wild posture, he approached the first cage, sensitive nose wrinkling at the stench. Where was his dignity? Even Thackery knew to be brave in the face of death.

A low growl rolled from the depths of his throat as he leaned down to stare into the cage, eyes flashing, ears pinned back against his head. This human was disgusting. Filthy. Just pathetic. Not even worth protecting. What if he'd made the mistake of promising to protect a human like this? The sight of him made him feel as if someone was rubbing all of his fur the wrong way, and as the first human was pleading and sobbing for him to stop, he was losing himself to a flood of emotion.

He hadn't meant to. He wasn't thinking straight. By the time he reached the second cage, too annoyed with the man in the first to bother him any longer, he was in his natural form, snarling, glaring at the man who seemed to think the cross in his hand might save him. Gnashing his teeth, he barked once, so fiercely that it didn't even sound like the noise had come from him. He only shared a vague resemblance with Black Dogs like Tybalt, but the priest must have thought that he was really looking right at a sign that ensured his demise. The human sounded like he was muttering something, extending the cross towards him.

Thackery snorted and turned towards the third cage. The hunter. The white coat and scarf and...did all hunters know all other hunters? He gave no indication that he recognized him, if he were one of the hunters that had been a scareling in the forest. Baring his teeth, he advanced on him, sensing the slightest shift in the hunter's body language-

But he couldn't do it.

Dizzy, he found himself in his humanoid form again. He shot a panicked look to the hunter, who returned an entirely unperturbed expression, and quickly glanced around to see if anyone had seen him lose control. What was wrong with him? Rubbing at his eyes with his hands, he slunk back to his seat, sinking down so only his ears were immediately visible to anyone who was just looking out over the 'audience.'

The weremantis sounded slightly bewildered. "I did not do anything. My lips were dry so I licked them and the next thing I know he was terrified." He decided not to mention that he had done nothing to the second cage. It would merely sound as if he had been scared of a human. And it was not the creature in the cage that scared him, rather the chanting. As he tried not to think about that he listened as well, noting the fact the last one was a hunter, and then watching with pleasure as Miss Xiu-Ying came in and made short work of both the first and second cages.

The demoness looked exceptionally pretty as she took her seat, though perhaps it was the fear in the room talking. Anyone who was that good at scaring was bound to come across as being more attractive. He felt...odd knowing that she seemed prettier today. Since when did he notice how pretty his friends looked? It was a horrible feeling, and when she mentioned that she was glad she was scary he could not help but mentally agree. She was terrifying him right now as he leaned forward to address her. "You did a superb job Miss Xiu-Ying. You seem to have a natural talent for scaring."

After complimenting her his eyes darted toward Alexander. Did he look prettier as well? He had terrified that first human after all. It was almost a relief to note that yes, Alexander did seem slightly more appealing today. It was probably just being in a room full of fresh human fear he decided, and began to relax a bit more as he settled back into his seat.

Live humans! Her first! Even better than that, the last of them seemed to be a Hunter. Her face set in grim determination. Those bastards had more or less destroyed Amityville for a good long time, and if she could do anything to frighten one, she would be there. She waited her turn politely, each student seeming to frighten the first man more and more, and by the time she stood by his cage, all she had to do was rumble threateningly. The young man looked like he'd be sick all over himself, and the chimera grinned.

One down, two to go.

Unfortunately, the poor ghoul had no idea that her appearance put her at a disadvantage with the second man. An eerily-breathed plume of flame, rising upward, and a snapping of a snake tail, and there was nothing. Indeed, he seemed to be mumbling some sort of incantation against her, all the while glaring. She turned to the professor, and then made one hell of a face.

She really wasn't any good at this.

Rengath looked positively giddy as the students wrapped up their scare attempts. It was little Xiu that impressed him the most. Who would have though such a ghoul could have so much potential? The other ghoul that impressed him was the ice demon. While he'd normally avoid more.. frosty individuals... she too had a good potential. Though her rage at the last one was a bit of a let down. Getting mad at humans... risky business, might kill one on accident after all.
The zombie boil also fared well, his tactic was very even. A solid scare foundation he definitely had. The Cerberus boil he would admit, had him a touch worried. He started off on shaky ground but he'd done well enough to get reactions.

Tapping his cane on the ground, Rengath grinned at the student. "You've all done well. Some of you far exceeding my expectations, and take heart, not all humans will scare the same and some are near impossible. This was an exercise to test yourselves and your creativity as well as what natural skill you posses. Though our guests will have to leave us-" The gnome from before was back, throwing covers on the cages. "If you have any questions, you're free to stay and ask them, otherwise class is dismissed."

Behind him, the cages were being pushed away by gnomes. The sobbing inside of the one had gone quite.

Class is officially OVER, you're free to have your student stay or leave.

In the time she had to settle down and cool off, the ghoul had reflected upon her attempt and was regretting losing her temper with the hunter captive. Admittedly, they were a touchy subject, and she would probably never get over them. The least she could do was make sure they didn't get the better of her.

The ghoul listened quietly to the Professor's debrief, occasionally glancing over to look at the gnomes pack up and wheel the subjects away. It probably didn't strike her as strange then, but it did now, and as she had heard some of the other students talk about it ...

Sir,” she raised her hand with a question to ask, “Those weren't real humans were they?” That would have taken far too much clearance, for one.

Leaning back on his feet the teacher smiled. Ah, they doubted they legitimacy. They were good to question, nothing should be taken at face value on the stage after all. "It's a good thing to ask my dear but, what makes you think they were not real humans? Do you think we'd not provide for... our guests and their ah." He tapped a finger to his chin, "Short comings?"

The cages were covered and the other students were beginning to file out of the theater, but Thackery just sat there, watching the last cage as it was wheeled away. There was no more sobbing to grate at his nerves, so he was left with his own thoughts, his concerns over his lack of control, his worries over the hunter. Though that particular human had no value to him, there was one of his type that held extreme importance. It was hard to just let that slip past. He wanted to beg the teacher for answers - to know where that hunter had come from, if others had been captured - but there was no way it wouldn't seem suspicious.

His ears perked at the ghoul's question. Not real humans? He hadn't even suspected that. He'd been so caught up in getting a reaction out of them that their scent hadn't registered...and even if he'd tried, would the stench of fright and accidents have overpowered it? It was too late now, he supposed, so he settled on hanging back to listen in on their discussion.

The Professor's answer was quite enough for her actually, Edel wasn't sure she wanted any more details (which she probably wouldn't get, she thought). “I see, thank you for the lesson, Sir, it's been a pleasure,” she bowed and left the auditorium with quite a few things to reconsider.

Frowning, Thackery slumped in his chair. Seeing the other students' general lack of interest in the humans (whether or not they were real humans) was discouraging. How could he ask about them without raising any suspicion now?

Well. Now or never.

He stood, cleared his throat, and moved closer to the professor, arms hugged across his chest.

"Sir, uh. Where did they come from? And are they going to die? Humans can't last long here, right?" That was the way the rumor went, at least. That was why the hunters needed golems. Could that hunter live without one? What if he really did know Reine?

Looking at the second boy Rengath figured it would be harder to answer these without well- "They come from-" Well Jack it was against his policy to lie to students. "Their parents I imagine." That was honest yes? He was quite sure of it. Scratching a horn, the demon looked back at the cages, motioning the gnomes to take care of it. "Humans in general are weak, and we have to compensate for that." Also not a lie.
But it was getting harder with the more specific questions. "Why? I am sure you wouldn't be allowed to keep a human like one would a minipet. They would probably try to eat certain minipets actually..." Nyan cats for one.

Nyan Cats were delicious.

Malodore glared metaphorical daggers at the caged Hunter before the gnomes covered the cages once more. As soon as the line of sight had been broken, the plague doctor relaxed. Just a little bit...

The questions Edel and Thackery asked drew its attention, though. Had they really been... hm. "What are you going to do with them now? Let them go?" it asked, warily.

Oh Jack were they catching on? They were catching on. Part of Rengath's mind was yelling 'ABORT, ABORT, ABORT' while the other half was saying that the show much go on. Theater voice won out. Chuckling nervously, the demon looked at the cages again, the gnomes kind of looking at him as if he was supposed to be telling them what to do. Augh, gnomes, cheap, but so useless at times.
"Er, well, we can't exactly keep them... as much as I'd like to." They were wonderful really, but so very costly. "Ah, if you'd like to stay to... speak with them later I can arrange it." One large lie could be offset by a small truth couldn't it?

"If you free that... that man in the white coat... then you..." Malodore shook its head for a moment as it tried to assemble its thoughts into something resembling coherency. "If he truly is a Hunter, then you must not, sir. With all due respect. Keep him, harvest him for the rest of his days, feed off of him - please do, actually - but you must not set him free." The plague doctor was practically pleading now, in its own restrained fashion.

Perhaps this made it afraid of fairy tales, but it did not care.

"... That said, I would love to talk to them," it added, with a swish of its bladed tail.
