Riyo clenched her head as she watched the boil take another swing, this time knocking Astra's friend back and splattering some of the bats Lou morphed into.
Talking wasn't working. Not a word that came out of her mouth was getting through. That much was obvious. For once, a man was immune to a woman's almost perfect guilt tripping. Let that one go down in the records.
Xiu's shout made the ghoul look that way. Why wouldn't she leave? Why did Riyo choose such stubbornly dedicated companions? The feline thought about shouting obscenities, but the baku was right. She needed to move. Needed to do something. Needed to NOT stand there and get clobbered.
'We know you wouldn't hurt us.'
It kept playing, like a broken record. Why had he said such a careless thing? Had he any inkling, any idea that something like this might happen? She didn't want to hurt him, but she didn't want to end up like him either.
Immediately after learning how to be empathetic, now Riyo had to remember how to be selfish again.
I don't want to be trapped here. I don't want to be forced to do things against my will. I don't want to watch Xiu die. I don't want to be useless.
I don't want to hurt him... Again.
Panic built up inside her as thoughts and visions of how this might end flashed. Just a quick lightning bolt of vulgarity. It was tearing her apart. She could feel her insides twist and churn, and the layer of miasma under her skin boil and bubble from the rise in body temperature.
In the end, she couldn't have it both ways.
A little trickle of black started flowing out of her mouth. Then the corners of her eyes, and even her nose. There was no stopping it now.
within seconds the feline had disappeared into a mass of black and... turned into something else.
The something else resembled a cat. A lion-sized creature, but it was thin, emaciated looking. Red bulging eyes opened and hand-like front paws dug into the ground. It was horrifying... And hopefully just what they'd need to make progress.
Without warning, Riyo charged forward as she had done before, narrowly dodging their new assailant. but this time, numerous spiked appendages burst out of the substance that now covered her and hurled towards Deacon.

"You should get out of here," Xiu agreed, wrenching his hand out of Lou's. Reaching out, she took his shoulders and turned him around, giving him a light push in the direction of...well, anywhere but here. "You're right, it's dangerous, but I'm not going to run from this battle. Even if..."
The baku swallowed, turning to look at the large insanity dragon that had joined them. Poke. Why--and how--was it that her friends were turning into these things?
But no, there was no time to dwell on that now. The baku flinched as she watched Yuki get kicked away, relaxing only slightly when Astra managed to cushion the impact. And with Riyo preparing to fight as well...well, there was absolutely no way that the baku could retreat without feeling terribly guilty. She wouldn't leave them to fight even one of these insanity creatures alone, nevermind two.
Giving her gloves a sharp tug, the ghoul glanced between the two students--or rather, creatures, trying to decide which to go for. Finally, deciding to help Riyo, Xiu ran forward and delivered a sharp kick to Deacon, an attack that was followed by a series of punches.
And to think, a year ago, the baku hardly knew how to slap.

As Riyo's attack miserably failed, she jumped back to regain her footing, a slight slump in her stature. There were little holes where the spikes had emerged, and those little holes started to leak red. It became painfully obvious she did much more damage to herself than she had to the target.
In this form, the thoughts of worry and fear didn't seem to bother Riyo. Or... The thoughts to dodge.
She took the hit head on. A hissing sound escaped the creature as it went flying, and stopped on impact of the ground. Her body left a cat-shaped dent, and slowly the black melted away.
It was just Riyo now. Covered in her own blood, staring blankly at her assailant. Many negative thoughts cruised her mind on a day to day basis, but never... Not in all her time at Amityville, had she pictured the bakeneko would be the end of her. He had destroyed all that she was, from the outside of her walls to the very innards of her core, leaving nothing but a trail of devastation in the wake of what had once been a proud and sturdy establishment.
Now it was empty.
Weakly, her hand tried to reach out. It crawled towards the grey figure of the cat boil. "I... Don't... Hate... You..." The demoness strained. Maybe Deacon was still in there. Maybe he wasn't. Maybe her words would give some comfort to the slowly dying consciousness that was the cat boil. Maybe they'd be the last hit that destroyed it.
But in the end, Riyo did indeed hold true to her words. She had told him that he wouldn't suffer alone, and she meant it.
The fog began to sweep in and fill the empty void inside of her. Riyo's porcelain skin was defiled with an ugly gray, and those passionate red eyes faded into a muted blue.
She couldn't save him. She couldn't take away his pain or suffering, but there was something the cat ghoul could do.
Riyo could go home with him.
And just like a small ember in the wind, the feline was gone.

Ooooohhh jack, and now they had a insanity dragon to deal with.
Astra screamed at the approaching beast, for a moment thinking it must of been Jericho, but then realized it wasn't the same. The features were different, the horns curled back at a different angle. Still, it seemed just as pissed as he would be, but she managed to duck out of the way of the tail swipe.
Overhearing the conversation between Lou and Xiu, Astra admired the baku's bravery. She was right, she didn't want to run away from this battle if her friends were in danger. But as she watched Riyo transform into some black monster, she paled when Deacon went after Riyo again. Was she okay...?
"Yuki, you have to get out of here!" She quickly turned to to the ghost boil, placing both hands on his shoulders and starting him right in the eye. "Please, you must escape! Don't worry about me or anyone else, and run away before it's too late!"
Before he could answer or argue, she had sped away towards the giant cat boil, flying as fast as she could. summoning a leaf in either hand, she flew straight towards him, arms whipping around to slash at his face.

Just like that. Everything around them was falling apart. They'd lost Amphi to the fog. Deacon had found them only to blindly attack them all without so much as flinching. Yuki felt so helpless, so useless... What was he supposed to do?
It might have been a small miracle that Yuki had it in him to stand, after taking such a hard kick to the gut, but he did...
He felt tears stinging in his eyes, his hands tunneling into his hair and clutching his head. Riyo had made a last ditch effort to knock some sense into the Insanity demon only to injure herself badly. What was worse? Deacon finished her off.
When the female bakeneko didn't dissipate... Not the way she was supposed to... Yuki felt like he could be sick. "No..." He muttered, vaguely aware that Astra was actually there with him, demanding something about running. "No, no..." His eyes remained locked on Riyo, watching in horror as she was consumed by the fog and turned into one of them before she vanished.
His eyes suddenly snapped to Astra, wide, wet and fearful. "It's going to get all of us, isn't it?" He asked in a shaking voice. "There isn't any getting out... I don't want you to turn into one of them, Astra!"
But it was too late for her to hear him; the fae had sped off to face Deacon again. Yuki's stomach clenched in knots, and he felt like standing was becoming a difficult task in itself. What little relief he might have had that Deacon didn't lash out at Astra wasn't enough to chase away the real fear that he was going to lose her to this Insanity.
His distraction kept him firmly planted in place. Poke's claws tore over one of his arms and ripped a cry of alarm from him as well. He tried to counter, wheeling around and throwing his weight into a punch.

When the fairy was suddenly right in his face, Deacon bared his teeth and growled angrily.
He drew an arm back to use his claws - but Astra struck first.
Deacon's form dissipated back into the fog, leaving them with only the dragon to deal with.

Lou was silent for what occurred next. He had... Nothing to say, really. The cat ghoul fell, and then... She was taken.
The vampire had been about to high tail it out of there with hopes that Xiu might follow his example, but the other creature's claws managed to swipe across his back and rip his suit. ********! "******** you, dragon!"
The cat boil was gone. There was nothing left for them to do here.
"Xiu." He tried to approach this in a more gentle way. "There's nothing more you can do. You feeling bad about it isn't going to bring anyone back, so lets. Go."As of now, it was as good as the vampire got to being careful about his words. "Either you stand here pitying yourself because you weren't good enough to stop this and probably die because you let your feelings get the best of you like princess boil, or you leave and come back when you have a better idea on how to help. That's it." The boil's spiral eyes burned into hers, as if trying to drive his point home.
He glanced over to the other two ******** only momentarily. "Same for you assholes, unless you're interested on going gray at such a young age."

Astra had thought she had turned the tables, getting rid of Deacon meant they only have one creature to deal with instead of two. But as she looked around her, she witness the birth of another one.
Riyo.
"N-no....." She whispered. Riyo was gone. changed, just like Deacon. It was horrible, and the fairy covered her eyes, tears silently streaming down her cheeks at their fallen comrade. The bakeneko may have not been a close friend, but she was still a friend, and she had not been able to save her.
She fought back her tears, rubbing her eyes vigorously with one arm. She couldn't' weep now, there would be time for that later. She had to help Yuki and Xiu. She just had too!
Moving back towards the group, her heart ached when she saw Yuki's expression. He was terrified. "Yuki...I-it's okay...." She said softly, trying to offer some comfort. "There...has to be a way...to save them...we brought back Riley, w-we can bring them back too..." Hovering in mid air, she wrapped her arms around his head, trying to soothe him.

"You're right," Xiu murmured quietly, shoulders drooping as she looked over to Lou, "Riyo...there's nothing I can do for her right now. She's already become one of...one of those things, and I don't know how to save her, or..."
But then she straightened up again, jabbing her finger in the direction of Yuki and Astra. "But even if I can't help her right now, I can still try to keep them safe, at least." Trying to shake out her aches in her body, she gave her gloves two firm tugs, "If you want to run, Lou, then be my guest. I won't fault you for it--frankly, it'll be a relief to know that you got away safely--but I can't just run."
And then she ran forward to deliver a swift kick to the insanity creature that was once Poke.
