Name: Berry
Gender: Female
Species: Soquili - Regular
Temper: Sweet
Likes: Feathers, Stories, Making Friends
Dislikes: Strong Winds, Upsetting Others, Being Bullied
Family: None
RP Color: #7f092b

About: Berry is a sweet, kind, adventurous mare. Having grown up outside Soquili lands, every soquili she meets is somehow something she'd never seen before, be it new appearances like wings, or new colors like purple! She might come off as over-excitable and hyper, but it's just her joy at not being the only 'strange' one anymore, and she loves learning about why these other Soquili have these new things like horns or new colors. She's got a special fondness for the Winged Types. One of the first Soquili she met after steeping hoof into Soquili lands was a winged type, and watching them fly was awe inspiring. She's never quite gotten over seeing a flying soquili and every chance she gets, she likes to hang out with winged ones, be they have feathers or wings like a kind of insect.

She might not seem very sad outwardly, but seeing all these different types of Soquili is very depressing to her. She came here looking for clues to her parents, but everyone she meets, it seems she couldn't be part of their family, either she doesn't have the right parts, like scales or strange tails, or she doesn't have the right colors. She tends to shove this sadness deep down and hide it with smiles and laughter, but on the inside she still feels like the odd-one-out.

Because of the sadness she hides, Berry's found it hard to make lasting friends. She's made several infrequent acquaintances with various others, but so far none have lasted much longer then it takes to part ways after the first encounter. Berry's wandering habits don't help this much. It's hard to see others again when you don't stay in one place after all. When she does find others she's met before, history usually repeats itself, a passing 'hello how are you, how have you been?' and then she's gone again, off looking for the next new and mysterious thing.

She hasn't given enough thought to this to realize it's a part of the problem she seems to have making friends, much less that it's a problem all on it's own.

History: Berry's Basket was found tucked up against the branches of a berry bush by a wild Stallion outside of the Soquili Lands. While he was trying to figure out what to do about it, the basket lid popped off, and a little filly stuck her head out of the basket, getting her short mane and ears stuck on some of the bush's branches in the process.

The Stallion hadn't sensed any other horses around for days, at least none other then his herd. He didn't think it would be wise to leave the filly alone like this, so he decided to bring her into the herd. One of his Mares had lost a foal recently, so once the filly from the basket could walk and run, he took her back with him to his own herd, where he introduced her to the mare who'd lost her foal.

The pair adopted Berry on the spot, and she grew up with-in the herd, wandering far and wide, chasing down the berry crown when it got blown off by the wind, hiding from predators beside her foster Mother's side, and following her foster father as he went off to check the territory while the other mares grazed.

Berry got her name for the location she'd been found, for the berry-juice colored coat of fur, and for the circlet of green leaves and berries that near-constantly adorned her head. As she got older, Berry inherited her foster father's adventurous and curious spirit, and she strayed more and more often away from the safety of the herd looking for new things.

Eventually, the herd came back to where Berry's basket had been found. She listened as her Foster Father told her of how she'd come to the herd, and Berry decided she wanted to see what kind of horses she'd come from, to see if she had family somewhere.

This curiosity lead her back to Soquili Lands, where she's seeing beings she'd never seen before, Wind Soquili with feathered wings, Unicorns with their different kinds of horns, Soquili with hooves like deer, and scales like snakes, and all the strange and wonderful new colors they carried on their pelts. Suddenly she was not the strange one of the herd.

She's never found a clue of who her parents were, or where they might have gone, but she doesn't let it hold her back.

Meta-plot:
The Search for Family - Berry came to the Soquili lands searching for her family. She's looking for any Soquili who might be her parents.

Possible Plots:

Family Storybook

Wind Brother and the First Bird

Long ago, Brother Wind decided, without the permission of the other Great Spirits, to create a new kind of being to roam the lands. He took the color from the flowers, and the soft floating seeds that he moved for Grandfather Earth so new patches of plants could grow in new areas, and some flaking bark from the oldest of Grandfather Earth's children, the trees, and the sweet song of Sister River.

From those things Brother Wind made the first bird, a small songbird, white as the fluff from the floating seeds she was created from. He gave her the voice of Sister River's song and she sang so beautifully. He gave her the colors from the flowers and she became bright as Father Sun so all would see her and admire her. He gave her the bark from the trees so she could live among the branches where she'd be out of danger.

But when the other Spirits found out, they got very upset with Wind Brother, and as punishment they decided that the bird he'd created would not be able to run from predators. The bird became heavy as a stone, and was in terrible danger from predators. Brother Wind, being a trickster, worked out a way to keep his first child safe. He blew, and blew, and blew, so strongly that the bird could hardly stay upright. He almost blew her over, but then she opened her wings to try and balance herself, and she was blown right up into the sky.

Brother Wind taught her to fly, to dance with him in the sky far from the wrath of the spirits he'd taken the gifts that made the bird. They could no longer harm the bird, but she could not shed the weight and would eventually have to land again, but as long as there was wind under her wings, she could avoid most dangers.

She plucked some of her feathers and gave them to Wind Brother, and from them he made more birds, of all kinds and colors, The sweet singing song birds, the powerful hawks, the trickster crows and ravens. All of them. Supposedly, Brother Wind's first bird still lives somewhere, singing sweeter and more beautifully colored then any other bird descended from her plucked feathers.

Grandmother Mountain and the Tree Children

Long ago, there were no trees at all. Grandfather Earth was not yet so old. He wasn't even a Grandfather. He walked his lands alone with no company at all, a great and vast loneliness was all that existed. One day, he felt his lands shake and rumble. Long before this he had trapped the spirit of a terrible force within himself, a Spirit that turned stone to liquid that ran as fast as light. It was this force that caused his lands to shake and rumble.

This Spirit was trying to get out. It caused him many dances of Father Sun and Mother Moon worth of pain. Finally, one day, the Spirit he'd trapped started to break free. The spirit pushed at the land, rising it up and up, high into towering mountains all over Grandfather Earth. The Spirit of liquid stone tried to escape many times, But Grandfather Earth was strong and young. He wanted to know why the Spirit was trying so hard now to get free, long after he'd trapped it.

"Spirit!" He yelled from the top of one of the mountains. "Why do you struggle now?"
The Spirit within the mountain heard him, and replied, anger and pain in their voice. "I want to see the wildflowers again! I want to see the Star Children, Mother Moon, and Father Sun! I want my FREEDOM!"

With the last yell, the spirit trapped within the mountain surged with all it's might. The mountain's peak started to rumble and split open. It caused Grandfather Earth terrible pain, but it also gave him an idea. When he'd trapped the spirit before, anything it touched burned to ash, rocks melted, and flowers wilted in the heat before turning black and melting as well. Grandfather Earth's idea was, if this spirit had only been trying to interact with his lands, that the burning was not something it could control on it's own, then maybe he could give peace to the spirit.

Though he was in pain, he started on his idea right away. It took many more days and nights, but slowly he leeched some of the heat and power from the fighting spirit within the mountains, and used it to help him create 'flowers' that would not die so quickly or easily when the spirit of liquid stone came near. he planted the seeds all around her main mountain at the time. The seeds were much bigger then any he'd created before, and of stranger shapes. Seeds like the Acorns, and the Pine cones.

He leeched more heat and energy from the spirit fighting him inside the mountain, and used it to help the seeds to grow much more quickly, much stronger and harder. The seeds grew. they feasted on the energy Grandfather Earth gave them from the trapped Spirit. Their roots grew strong and thick and sought it out for themselves.

Their stems grew tall and straight. Supple green stalks soon became hard and tough brown bark. the sap that fed their petals and branches went from the simple watery stuff of flowers, to the thick sap of trees. Grandfather Earth grew them taller and taller, until each seed had grown as tall as it could. There was not much color, most of the leaves were green, some were brown or darker shades of green, but this was because of the energy from the trapped mountain Spirit. The colors Grandfather Earth had wanted them to be had not survived the strong magic of the trapped Spirit. It would have to do though.

"Spirit!" Grandfather Earth called to the mountains. "Spirit stop your struggling! Look through my eyes at what I wish to show you!" he cried out.
The trapped Spirit was curious, and accepted the offer. She used Grandfather Earth's eyes to look out upon the trees that grew all around her mountain, at the beautiful shapes of the leaves, the different heights. Her temper cooled and the rumbling slowed. She thought they were beautiful, as beautiful as the wildflowers.

When her heat subsided, many of the trees started to go to sleep, their roots could no longer reach the heat she provided. Their leaves started to turn many different colors. Oranges, yellows, reds. The mountain Spirit was even more delighted at the patchwork of colors of the sleepy trees. A new kind of energy rose from the mountain Spirit. Love. Love for the new flowers. This new energy awoke the sleepy trees, and they bloomed new leaves, bright and green as before. And with that new energy, each tree bore it's first seed, a tiny spirit that would live within it and grow with it. The spirits of the trees ran and played under the branches of the trees, laughing and smiling. They knew their parents, and ran in a giant group to the edge of the new forests, to the mountain their trees grew around, and hugged the Spirit that gave them Life.

Over time The trapped Spirit learned to love others, not just her tree children, and she became Grandmother Mountain. Sometimes she gets angry and her true self escapes, burning even the trees, but the trees are strong, and their deep running roots protect the tree spirits when Grandmother is Angry. They grow their trees anew from the roots and rebuild the forest, while Grandfather Earth takes the spirit and traps her inside her mountains again.
