Named for "Tyrian purple," an ancient dye derived from a certain sea snail, that was used by royalty, and further back by Phoenicia, "the land of purple" (or so says Wikipedia).

Named also for the muse, Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy. Melpomai means literally, "to celebrate with dance and song."

As a romantic himself, Tyrian likes to celebrate all the romances of old, happy or sad, comedy or tragedy. The best ones have all. He is protective of those he cares about and enjoys seeing enemies, rare as they are, suffer. They don't even have to know when he is the cause. Just. Suffer.
