Name: Jacel
Age: Eight turns old
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Undetermined at this point
Craft: Harper
Rank: Weyrbrat
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: Jacel has shaggy black hair that constantly gets in his face. To remedy this, Vanaryn pulls his bangs up in a small poof because no one wants her anywhere near a child's hair with scissors. His skin is a light brown and his eyes are bordering on hazel. Growing quickly, Jacel is already taller than his youngest foster sister, and is quickly reaching his oldest sister's height.
Personality:
Jacel has the unfortunate air of a child who's had everything handed to him. His father seemed to believe that he could provide enough love for two parents in one. If he can avoid them without appearing rude, he will attempt to do so.

He has a quiet sort of pride, though. When he feels he's done well, he'll show a father or perhaps a friend a drawing, or something he's worked on for lessons. Maybe he copied down a ballad and was complimented on it. Maybe he did a chore and was told he'd done well, or maybe he'd been thanked for doing kit. He treasures these moments.

Not that he particularly enjoys chores. No. He moans and groans about chores with the rest of them! Perhaps more. He doesn't want to clean. He doesn't want to help. He wants nothing more than to be able to spend time with his father, when he's freee, and his friends. Or to keep to himself. Since coming to the Weyr, he's grown to prefer the company of his half brother even if he's being bothersome to poor Jarah. He will happily follow Jarah wherever the candidate goes; and into whatever mischief the older boy may find himself in.

This weyrbrat is often thoughtful and quiet. Unless someone provokes him into speaking; and they may be surprised. Jacel can be long winded, hoping to bore those around him enough that they will go away; there may be some truth in the blather, but he hopes those who listen won't be clever enough to piece those truths together.

Jacel misses his father more than anything at the Harperhall. Writing isn't the same as being able to see him as often as he'd like.

He seems to prefer the company of older children; maybe from attaching to Jarah soon after coming to the Weyr. He feels he can relate to them better, but only with the presence of Jarah there.

Positive Trait List Confident, playful, intelligent
Negative Trait List Know it all, pride driven, spoiled
History: Jacel was raised primarily by his father, from an early age. His mother, whether by dragonlust or wine, he was never told, had little interest in caring for him. She left him in the care of his father, Jacepi, as soon as she was able. Jacel grew into a study lad, helping where ever he could in his father's craft. At eight turns old, he was apprenticed.

A turn ago now, Thread returned. Jacepi and a group of harpers got caught in what turned out to be Thread. He and two others survived, but only with the expert help of a Masterhealer. Jacepi felt, once he recovered, that he would not longer be able to care for the boy. With the loss of his arm, there was little he could do to earn the marks to feed him. Jacel was suffering from nightmares, and Jacepi thought he knew someone who could help.

He sent word to a long time friend (and one time lover) at Western Weyr, Vanaryn. He trusted her to look after the boy--maybe Jarah could help him. Maybe one day he'd be able to Stand. After a quick correpondence, it was decided, and Jacel was brought to the Weyr.

He struggled adjusting. He hated it. He complained of missing home, of missing his father, regularly. He didn't get along with his new siblings--there was more than one kicking incident.
Other: Jacel is plotted to eventually warm up to the idea of living at the Weyr; he's eight and he misses the only home he's ever known.

Name: Jacepi
Age: 42
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (with one specific person in mind)
Craft: Harper
Rank: Journeyman
Location: Harperhall closest to Western Weyr
Physical Description: Jacepi is tall, his frame is slender with the start of a beer belly. His hair is black and shaggy, his skin a light brown. He has dark brown eyes. He lost his arm during the first Threadfall and has a threadscore on his cheek. He hunches most of the time, hoping not to be noticed. His remaining arm shows the muscles of a guitar player, his fingers calloused.
Personality: Jacepi has the unfortunate trait of seeing the best in everyone, and proceeding to always expect the best despite experience. One might expect him to be embittered, but instead he focused on his craft. After Jacel was born, the majority of his attention went to the boy. He hoped in some way that by taking extra care of this son, he could make up for the mistakes of his first.

Jacepi is often caught thinking about the past. He lost the woman he loved eighteen turns ago, but he still can't understand why. What did he do wrong? He thought he'd done everything right. He thought he'd made her happy, that they could live their lives out together. This thought process can distract him, cause sudden desires to write a letter to Jarah, or plan a trip--that is always canceled- to the Weyr. Once there, Jacepi and Vanaryn constantly bicker.

Music is a huge part of Jacepi's life. It was a favorite pastime, even as a child. He loved playing the pipes and his guitar. Now he finds new ways to appreciate music. He can't play guitar with only one arm; but he still delights in the pipes. He was never much of a singer. He's begun to appreciate poetry more lately.

Jacepi is a bit of a hopeless romantic. Even after all this time, he still thinks of Vanaryn. It's taken him turns to get to where he could befriend her and be content with that. He loves seeing love begin to bloom among the older apprentices and among friends. And he loves to try to assist. Having faced heartbreak himself, he tries to ensure others don't make the same mistakes.

Having lived through such things, Jacepi is anxious around women and keen to avoid romantic advances himself. He fully supports and will encourage romance between others, but it's not for him. He has anxiety about straying too far from the hall, as well, after Threadfall.

Positive Trait List Devoted, loving, kind, romantic
Negative Trait List Anxious, lacking self confidence, dwells on the past
History: Jacepi was born to heartbreak, and that has seemed to follow him his whole life. Soon after he was born, his mother left his father, and him. She left them with a bag of marks and instructions to get the boy apprenticed to a Harper one day. She left a dragonback, and she wasn't heard from since. Despite that rough beginning, Jacepi had a good childhood. His father treated him as a special treasure. Anything Jacepi wanted, he could have. He was the only reminder of his wife he had.

At eight turns old, when the boy showed an interest in music, his mother's request was honored. He was sent to the Harperhall. He grew there, writing letters to his father at least twice a sevenday. They focused on copying down old songs from the records, and then, finally. Finally, he got to make his very first set of pipes. The boy loved them. He never went anywhere without them. That was, until he met Vannie and gifted them to her, at fifteen turns old. He'd heard the older boys talk of beautiful women, but his encounter with her left the normally talkative teenager speechless. He'd never met anyone like her.

She left, though, to the Weyr. Jacepi was heartbroken, but poured himself into his studies. He became a journeyman while she was away, at twenty one. She returned a dragonrider! He was astonished, and so in awe of her dragon. He fell in love with her. He sang songs, he played tunes, he wrote ridiculously cheesy sonnets just for her. He was going to propose...

And that was when true heartbreak struck the young man. He'd never imagined the sort of pain Vanaryn created in him when she said she'd be returning to the Weyr without him. He didn't understand. Shard it, he loved her!

She left all the same. About eight months later, he received a letter that twisted the knife she'd lodged in his chest. She'd given birth to a baby boy, and Jacepi knew it was his. He went to the Weyr as soon as he could, to see her and the baby. Things were said that weren't meant; he shouted at her. Had she known that entire time? Why? Why? They finally agreed that he be able to see Jarah as often as he liked. Vanaryn would bring him to the Hall if he wrote.

"As often as he liked" didn't happen, well, as often as he would've liked. He was a journeyman, he was assigned tasks and expected to carry them out, not worry about an infant. Not chase after a toddler. Not stop a five turn old from tantruming in the Hall. The man resented it. That his boy only visited for short periods of time. That he only visited the Weyr when a dragonrider could find the time to give him passage.

Ten turns passed so much more quickly than Jacepi would've liked. He met a few women--and ended up in the same position as his father, so many turns ago. The woman he'd been seeing left him with a screaming bundle. He'd had to find a wetnurse. He knew little about infants, apart from what he'd learned caring for Jarah, but he doted on that child.

Maybe a bit too much. He spoiled Jacel as if that could repair the ties between him and his older son. He tried to give the boy anything he could've wanted. Marks, though, was a big problem. It was hard to have enough marks for every day needs when you spent the majority of it at gathers.

It went on like this for seven turns. He was sent with a group of harpers to a nearby hold for a Gather. Jacel--oh, looking back on it, he was thankful for the fever that came. Jacel was ill that sevenday, and didn't go. Thread came back. He and two others from the group survived, but not in any good way. They'd had no healer with them, and Jacepi lost his arm. A threadscore now ran down his cheek. The nearby hold had massive damage, and the healers there were overwhelmed with injuries.

He stayed there for a sevenday before he was able to return home. He wasn't able to practice his craft; not the way he preferred. Money was tighter than ever. He was failing his son, just like he'd failed Jarah. He wrote to Vanaryn, asking if she could take him. Suggesting that when Jacel was old enough, he might become a dragonrider.
Other: This is Berri's fault.

Name: Peku
Age: Eight turns
Sex: male
Sexual Orientation: ...? (Unsure as of yet)
Craft: Mischief. N/A
Rank: Weyrbrat
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: Peku has a floof of black hair that reaches down to his ears and over falls into his eyes. He combs up, but it seems to have a mind of its own as to where it falls. He has a klah with cream colored skin tone, his eyes are brown.

Peku is average height for his age, and still has yet to lose that baby roundness to his face. He dresses like a miniature of his father.
Personality: Everything is awesome! Dad's awesome. Lokith is awesome. Life is exciting! And sometimes pretty scary. Peku wants to experience everything. Anything that can be considered fun or exciting, he's on it.

He's very close to his father, Nemo. He loves to spend time with Nemo whenever his father has a free moment. Maybe more than that, though, he loves to spend time with Lokith. On lazy days he likes to play with the green on the beach, splashing in the surf. He tells her his dreams of becoming a pirate there.

He may have been born to be a firelizard. The amount of chatter he can produce in any given candlemark seemingly out of nothing the comparison is accurate. He is an intelligent eight turn old who spends too much time around adults. He rarely spends time with children his own age, preferring to be around his father or his older brother, Pontos.

He shows little fear for what others could do to him. He is bold and willing to take risks; unless it's too scary. He depends on his father at this point to indicate whether it is or isn't. He can be pretty reckless and doesn't always think things through before he says them.

Peku wants nothing more to become a pirate. A dragonrider pirate, in fact. He loves the idea of adventure. Sometimes, he feels like days should be as long as they feel when there's nothing to do. Good days. Days when he can spend time with Nemo and Pontos without anything getting in the way. Days where he can play with Lokith in the surf. Why do those days feel so short?

Positive Trait List Imaginative, intelligent, brave
Negative Trait List Emotionally driven, dependent on family to form opinions, impatient, easily distracted, quick tempered
History: Peku was born to Nemo and Pacisa; his father took an interest immediately, and while he was raised by his mother, she wasn't particularly present. Peku bonded quickly to his father, and older brother.

Peku's childhood was mostly peaceful, until Thread came again once he was seven turns old. He knew something was happening, something bad--but didn't quite understand why it was so bad, or what was happening. He had never seen something like that before; but to see adults so frightened had him frightened. He understands Thread better now, a turn later.

Recently his father has begun teaching him cartography; these are generally drawn in the form of treasure maps.

He wasn't able to watch this most recent hatching; but he currently has the idea that he would rather wait for his dragon in the stands than be on the sands.
Other: Peku becomes distracted if given several tasks at once.
