Dr'stan & Green Cynosuth

Round: 2
Roll: 1
HP: 5/6

3 – 7. A stray thread slips past your flames. You twist away, but not in time to fully avoid it! Take 1 damage!

---
Distracted, Cynosuth sent Aurinkoth a wave of love and affection in return, and suddenly, everything seemed to come to a head. Things weren't going quite to plan, and-- Cynosuth swerved, lifting her graceful head to flame at Thread that threatened her and her rider! One of the strands, however, glanced off her shoulder as she attempted to wheel, and she let out a startled squeal of pain.

Focus, precious. We're almost clear!

It... it hurt! I did not expect it to hurt so much.

There wasn't any time for Aresoth to continue to fume about the clutchmate who had burnt his flank earlier. There was never a moments rest and he was proud of himself as he found the rhythm that he should have had in the beginning. There was no more Wingmates flame going wide, no Thread missed. This was what it was supposed to be like. This was the performance a bronze was supposed to have.

C'ryn could feel the pride and confidence flowing off of Aresoth as they flew. The young man prodded the dragon, making him focus when he noticed Nadry and Menankith reappearing from between near them. It was easy enough to spot the thread that was in their path. There was no way for C'ryn to yell to get their attention, no way for them to go between before they collided with it.

Menankith! Aresoth didn't hesitate, even if he knew his brown brother would chaff under having been saved from this piece of thread. He was not going to let one of his siblings get hurt when he had the ability to help them.

Wings shifted to move them towards the pair and Aresoth managed to belch flame and hit the thread before it got too close to them. They were off as soon as it was gone.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

20. You see a wingmate in danger of taking a hit! Without hesitation you intercede, scorching the threat to nothing and giving them time to regroup in your wake. Great job! Quote a teammate of your choice who took damage from thread in this round to nullify that damage!

Faranth help her, it was like she could do nothing to honestly fight with her clutchmates. Both dragon and rider were frustrated, but as they flew, it was clear that Alumet was paying JUST enough attention, When at last she made another pass below, there it was. A stray clump that was quickly blasted to bits by the blonde.

Alumet and Zenobiath had taken to wheeling and flying beneath their chromatic siblings, watching the threadfall, watching the others fight and get injured, worry in their hearts. The blonde rider was pressed to a golden neck, fighting strongly her urge to surge with her beloved upwards, to protect their siblings, to stand with them....but when the thread fell past, Zeno rolled out of the way, Alumet sending a burst of flame forwards. She worked to get the blue to focus on Thread and not on his many intricate plans for a moment, and they settled into a rhythm. Flame, pass a piece of firestone up, chew, get ready, flame. Jynnat felt like they were working well as a team now. All that practice was paying off!

Jynnat took a second while they had a clear patch to glance up at the wings above them. Someday soon they'd be flying up there. Her hands tightened upon her straps as her jaw clenched momentarily. Begath let out a croon, we will be just as awesome up there mine. You'll see. The woman smiled and relaxed. Yes I know.

They worked flawlessly through another pass, when Jynnat reached into the firestone sac and found it practically empty. Begath we need more firestone. She felt the blue acknowledge and twist in the air. What are y....aaaaaaaaaaa! She gave an involuntary mental cry as the blue heeled over, almost stalling and then folding his wings in, fell like a stone toward the ground. Shaft it dragon! Open your fardling wings! At least a little or warn a girl! Jynnat sputtered as her stomach was left somewhere higher up.

Begath chuckled and kept his eyes on the prize. At the very last possible moment he snapped open his glittery wings and shot off to snag a sac, nearly clipping his claws on the ground. Be careful Begath! That's how you injured your wing last time! V'mel will ground us if you do that again. He grumbled she wasn't impressed with his fancy flying as he shot up to resume his place. I made it didn't I?

Back in line, Jynnat took a glance at her fellow weyrlings. They looked to be doing fairly well. A few burns here and there, some hit with scores, and some saved.

Demanthra and Green Monath

Once Demanthra had calmed her green about the column of flame, they seemed to get things under control once more. She still felt fear, but they were taking care of more thread as they went. Her eyes managed to look up at the wings above them, wondering if either of her parents were up there or one of her two brothers who were currently riders.

Probably someone up there, we can ask them later. For now, your sister is watching, so we need to show our stuff,Monath rallied.

So is Master V'mel and I would rather keep it to just a tail being scorched a little please,she thought back to her green. She noticed a clump of the silvery menace not far and directed Monath to it. The green let out a cry of happiness, as she blasted it into ash.

M'lan and Xochith

11 – 13. It's a lot louder up here than you expected: dragons are roaring and screaming, fire is blazing. You hear V'mel call out a direction, but you're not certain which. Thankfully your instinct isn't bad, and though you're a bit wobbly, you turn just in time to match the rest. Whew! ...No one saw that, right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ignoring the sting of the score on her wingtip Xochith flamed, both she and M'lan roaring with every clump destroyed ... when they had the breath for it ... They were so lost in the flame, Between, twist, turn, flame again, that they didn't properly hear V'mel at the moment Xochith flamed a small clump, thankfully M'lan was watching as well as listening, and just a moment after almost everyone else, Xochith followed. Neither had time to check if anyone was looking before another clump came towards them, missed by another, to meet it's end under Xochith's flame again.
More of the same, flame a clump, dodge what you couldn't flame, help your wingmates. M'lan yelled as a Thread got past Xochith's flame, warning his green unneccesarily, she turned and dived but wasn't fast enough, however one of her fellow greens zoomed past, charring it before it managed to hit her, so she only felt the heat of the flame so close "THANK YOU!" she and M'lan both cried out at the same time to the green and her rider, before returning to the fray.
Roll: 17 - All good!
V'tre pressed himself flush to Thanoth's slender neck as she wheeled through the air, jaws open to scorch a batch of thread with an almost relaxed sense of pride. Was V'mel looking? She didn't care. Hat they burned the most thread of the weyrlings? She didn't care. This was all one big game to the green, even if it was one with major consequences, and she was content to treat it as such. They dove low to snag a bag of firestone, and pump, pump, pump when her wings to lift it back up. Tossing it was a bit harder, V'tre still being on the scrawny side, but at least they had good aim!
The trouble with being a bit laid back about the whole thing, was that it kept your adrenaline down, kept your reactions...slowed. For a while it worked in the pair's favor, and helped them to not panic...But as more and more time passed, it really did start to seem more and more like a game. Reacting a bit slow, nearly missing, it wasn't a big deal when it was a game.
Until it was.
A stray thread that had been all but ignored caught a glancing blast...but not enough to really catch and burn. Instead, despite Thanoth's attempt to duck away, it connected...! A licking flash of white-hot pain split Thanoth's brow, and V'tre's through the connection. It stunned the pair silent, before they vanished entirely, gone away between for one, two, three breaths before reappearing to shake off the frozen remains of the strand.
That had hurt, and this wasn't fun any more.
Menankith's whisper of gratitude was acknowledged by Aresoth, the bronze sending a reassuring feeling to his brown brother. They might have different views on how things should be run, but they were still siblings, he was not going to allow him to be harmed when he could help it.
The upper wings need firestone Aresoth. C'ryn's voice got a slight nod from the dragon as they changed their course. Moving higher then where the rest of the Ashlings were flying and towards the wing in at medium altitude.
The bronze gaze a bugle, to call out to the nearest dragon as C'ryn grabbed a bag of firestone and slung it towards the rider. It was caught and they moved onto the next. Aresoth's size made it easier for them to carry multiple bags of firestone, not only for themselves, but for the others. The salute he got from one of the brown riders that caught the last bag made the budding bronze rider proud.
Jynnat was pleased and proud that they were doing their part to sear thread from the sky. She was even a bit pleased they made it through another pass without mishap. Just as her confidence was starting to build again though, Begath thought it'd be a great chance to perform another of his stunt maneuvers.
As they swung around with the wing on the turn Begath indulged in some aerial acrobatics. Unfortunately it hadn't gone as smoothly has he planned. The blue fumbled a bit, falling slightly out of place. Once again they missed a piece of thread. Don't worry I'll get it, Begath called to those around him a moment too late. He was already flipped over and diving when a gout of flame scotched across his back. Jynnat winced as she felt the heat from those flames a bit herself. The pair popped between for a moment, then returned.
When they came back, Jynnat looked around for the one who'd gotten them this time. She gave an apologetic wave as she saw Xo. Begath if you don't cut that out right this moment, you are going to be more torched that the thread is!
Demanthra and Green Monath
Demanthra was feeling a little more comfortable, but still keeping all of her senses alert. They stayed in formation and took care of any thread that got in their path. Hopefully, they could manage to keep it to only a singed tail, until it was time for the greens and blues to land.
Demanthra Mine, look! Cynosuth is in trouble and needs our help,Monath's voice entered her rider's mind. When Demanthra confirmed she had seen it and gave permission, she pulled her wings in to dive in that direction. There was no way she would let her gentle sister get hurt, not if she could help it. Pulling up as they got in striking distance, she sent flame flying at the piece of thread. Then with satisfaction, watched it burn up and turn into harmless ash. A wave of relief went through rider and dragon at seeing how they had helped her.
Good girl, Monath, I am so proud of you. Looking out for your siblings is a wonderful thing to do,Demanthra thought to her. She could feel Monath glow with pride at the praise.
R'am of Green Lemath
Lemath worked through the pain of the thread hitting her front leg and flew in formation with the rest. After scorching yet another clump, twisting, turning, and avoiding other clumps of thread, Lemath and R’am weren’t listening very well.
V’mel gave a direction and either neither dragon nor rider paid attention or they just couldn’t hear over anything, they almost got out of formation.
Luckily for them R’am had good, swift instincts and he managed to turn before they were completely out of formation. The blonde glanced around and just prayed no one actually saw what they’d done. Poor Lemath was already showing signs of slowing down. The greens just didn’t have the same stamina.
“You’re doing great, Lemath,” R’am said, patting her quickly.
Th-thank you, mine! It’s so much fun! He could hear the starts of straining in her voice.
————ROUND 3 BEGIN!————
Please note for greens and blues this is your final round!
The threadfall was clearly taxing the attention and strength of the weyrlings, but V'mel was pleased to see that no one had been knocked out of the fight, or overly injured. Aviroth below him was keeping him appraised of every score, every burn, every dropped sack and pulled muscle. He'd of course had the forethought to arrange for a few healers (for humans and dragons) to be waiting for his wing, as they would be for every wing, and it seemed they would be busy. But that was good. The pain would make them angrier at thread, and hopefully better fighters. It would happen again, after all, and again and again, and being broken of their fear of it now, while they were still young and impressionable, was important.
Blue weyrlings, green weyrlings, keep up the good work! In your adult wings you will be rotating in and out of threadfall in shifts, as you well know. Your shift is nearly done, so stay focused, and clear the skies!
They'd be feeling tired, the brown knew. But the browns and bronze left behind once they took their leave would find themselves taxed too. With no agile, speedy siblings to dart about around them, they'd have their work cut out for them.
2 – 3. A faster teammate darts right into your line of fire, searing the thread you were aiming at. You between to avoid a crash, but when you pop back, you fly right into a small clump, forcing you back between again! Take two damage!
4. You're moving through maneuvers just fine, you have no trouble flaming every thread you see. There's on now! You open your mouth to flame, line it up—! THWACK! A heavy bag of firestone lands on your head, cracking with blunt force before toppling off to finally thud to the ground below. Ow! Who dropped that...?! Take one damage!
5 – 10. A strong gust of wind heralds a change in weather, and thus pace. You strain to keep up with the wing's new, more energetic pace as more and more thread makes it to your level. You flame every piece you see, but one maneuver asks just too much, too fast from you. You feel the muscle of your wing wrench painfully as you turn, though it's not enough to ground you alone.Take one damage!
11 – 14. You're starting to get in the flow of things! This is still a bit more than you were ready for, but you manage not to make any huge blunders or set yourself (or anyone else!) on fire. This time, at least.
15 – 17. Okay, this is terrifying, but you're pretty bad-a** at it. The longer you fly, the more you feel the fear drop away, replaced by confidence in the fact that you're doing what you were made to do. You blast a clump of thread to ash! Take that, Red Star!
18 – 19. You're as cool and steady as the stones of High Reaches' peaks. Others might waver, but not you. You flawlessly execute each turn and swoop, almost seeming to anticipate the calls and directions V'mel dictates. You even manage to snag a sack of stone that someone up above you dropped! Nice job!
20. Yikes! You see someone on your team flying right into another dragon's flame! They're so focused on a patch of thread that they don't even see! 1. There's so much to keep track of! You know that one day you might be in charge of your own wing, and it has you on high alert for the condition of everyone else in your wing. Unfortunately, that distraction blinds you to a big clump of thread coming right at you! Take three damage!
2 – 4. You struggle to react as quickly as some others when thread comes your direction, and unfortunately, your green and blue wingmates are dealing with other strands at the moment! You twist away with a wrench, and manage to duck the thread, but you feel a sharp pain at the base of your wing that distressingly doesn't fade once you straighten out! Take one damage this round, and one additional damage in the next round!
5 – 11. A zippy teammate whisks by, blasting thread that nearly gets you...but their flame is a bit wide, and you feel it lick up your flank! Still, it's better than being threaded! Take one damage!
12 – 14. You narrowly dodge a falling clump, watching as your more agile teammates swoop past to sear it. Don't feel bad that you couldn't get it yourself—your wingmates return to your wake after darting after it, thankful to ride the air you cut for them. Looks like everyone has a role to play!
14 – 16. You see a massive clump of tangling thread fall into your line of fire. It must have been several smaller strands that the wind's caught and mixed up! A green and a blue swoop in to flame it, but it's so large that their efforts aren't enough! Thankfully your blaze is enough to tip the scale, and the three of you destroy it with just a bit more effort! Is that what the upper wings deal with all the time?!
17 – 19. As big as you are, you're able to carry multiple sacks of stone up to the higher wings at once. You sling both with ease, right on target! Success!
2. Finally! Some action! You swing around to aim your flamethrower at a trailing piece of thread, just in time to realize one of the older, quicker queens has beaten you to it! You fly right into their line of fire, ducking between to cool the fresh burn. Take two damage!
3. Oh no! A dragon from one of the upper wings is falling from the sky! You duck into their path to help catch them, but you weren't expecting them to be so heavy! They land atop you awkwardly and heavily before they roll off and onto the next gold on the way down. Hopefully they'll be okay...! Take one damage!
4 – 8. It's your moment! You deftly work to sear a rogue batch of thread, but oh no! It's not fully charred before it connects with you! There's barely any left, but it still stings, and sends you between to freeze it away! Take one damage!
9 – 13. Honestly, this started out nerve-wracking, but now you're almost bored. Almost no thread makes it down to your level, and the wings seem in fighting shape this time, with few to no injuries. You keep yourself alert, but the want to do more to help thrums in your blood.
14 – 18. Your practice with the flamethrower has paid off! You sear a stray clump into ash, earning a praising look from one of your golden peers. Just because you're not a top-flight wing doesn't mean your work isn't just as important!
19 – 20. Danger! You glance up just in time to see one of your fellow weyrlings fall into the path of danger! You call out to them, and they avoid it at the last moment, much to your relief. Quote a teammate of your choice who took any damage in this round to nullify that damage!
