Thren

As it turned out, Rixth hadn't called for his rider directly. He had summoned Thren through his green sister, and it was Morruth who dropped the yawning man outside the entrance to the sands, honking a short chuckle as she turned to leave.

"You're not staying to see your nieces and nephews? Missing the action is hardly your style."

The dragon bent somewhat awkwardly, bringing a single claw up to tap her temple in a very human gesture. She would be watching through her brother's eyes. Better than a front row seat. Of course.

With an amused snort of his own, Thren nudged his way past the sleep-deprived Candidates and edged around the action, finding a spot in the stands.

Suuth

    Mine, they're hatching.

H'win projected the impressive mental equivalent of an eyeroll and a sigh all at the same time. Didn't we witness a plucky troupe of Candidates Impress only a handful of months ago?

Those weren't my sister's eggs they were Impressing to.

There was a pause. Very true. The man didn't open his eyes, but he did send Suuth a short, intense burst of support akin to a hug as he rolled over and burrowed deeper into his furs. Let me know how it goes.

Torin

Normally he would have balked at being awakened so early, but today Torin could excuse anything. The dragonets were hatching, if the firelizards humming up the barracks were any indication, and he was glad to cater to their every whim. He rose quickly, dragged some ash around his eyes to enhance The Smolder, and donned his robe, hurrying into his spot in the line of Candidates making their way to the sands.

Rykin

The soft scrape of a carving knife against wood paused when he registered the first low hum. It wasn't normal. Rykin had never heard such a sound before, but he knew it for what it was immediately. He dressed quickly and was one of the first to assemble in front of the eggs, cautiously eyeing Rhianth and Fianth until the first hatchling stepped onto the sands and tore his attention away. A bronze.

A bronze. Lucky, some would say.

The man took a slow step back, finally scanning the stands and ledges for his siblings. Surely such a regal creature was not meant for him.

Korbet

It was his flits who found the Harper, four small streaks of green that made a beeline for Regory and greeted him like a flock of old friends. Korbet followed at a much slower pace, his generally worried eyes going a little rounder at the sight of the man his girls had chosen to bother. A portable desk. A quill...

"Are you a writer?" he blurted, folding the bundle of sticks that was his form into the space next to Oseathiol. The other man seemed quite preoccupied by something Korbet couldn't immediately identify, so he sat silently after that, watching his new companion instead of the sands. Yes, there was a bronze out there. Yawn.

Shar snorted quietly at Riz's comments, nodding in agreement even though her eyes didn't waver from the eggs. More were starting to shake and move about, joining the already hatched dragon in drawing attention from those gathered. She did glance at the other Candidates that were gathered and narrowed her eyes as she spotted some cowering behind others, a scoff leaving her. If they were so terrified they shouldn't be on the Sands! They were running the risk of endangering every Candidate and dragon out there with their fearful and timid energy.

Drawing her gaze back to the eggs proper, she hoped that the Candidatemaster would spot and pull those who might cause problems before they had the chance to unleash utter destruction upon the Sands.

"Looks like there's some not so pleasant thoughts coming from the thick of them over there," she muttered quietly to Riz. "Better double up on the confidence here." She'd protect anyone if a dragon charged in her direction, but those that were out of reach were on their own. It was part of the reason she'd stood so far away from the majority of the Candidates as well - she was confident in herself and Riz to stay calm and that the two of them would be able to help Zamistia remain relaxed as well. Everyone else...well. They'd have to watch out for themselves.

The Slytherin dragonet moved, and it was apparent, for perhaps the first time, that the gleaming of his hide was not simply egg goop. No, when the elegant creature shook free the offending substance, he was clearly and undeniably metallic.

A Bronze. But hadn't they all already known that, regardless? Aware that he had nearly the sole attention of his audience, the hatchling posed, allowing them to take in his regal bearing, the ferocity of his still damp claws. Yes, watch him. For surely he was destined for greatness.

Veltanna watched the little bronze dragon and tried to fight the urge to roll her eyes. She lost. Eyes officially rolled, she sighed at the posing. Really, she shouldn’t blame the dragon but she didn’t like posers. Prove that you are someone or do something to be someone.

Taking a deep breath she pushed down the thoughts and tried to radiate calm and happiness. This had mixed results. All the lessons, especially the most recent ones, ran through her head. But it was very hard to tamp down on your own personality. Well, maybe the little dragon was too busy being awesome to notice her?

Amila

An egg was cracking and that meant... More dragonets. Amila groaned, huddling further into the crowd atthe sound from Firebolt, trying to tyune it out. She didn't want to hurt anyone being nice. And she didn't want hurt eityher.

Siv

Siv glanced at Firebolt, but didn't really move, insttead eyes resuming scanning the clutches. This was still fascinating. Still new. She rubbed her chin, then, abd hummed, glancing about. Who might impress first?... Probably the boys. But who knew? This was ann fairly unknown.

Aerone and Nidhoth

The brown landed on a ledge gracefully, for his normal asocial nature and thus lack of practice being a rogue, but there were young and he and His had bets to collect, the brown idly flicking his tail as he studied the Candidates and then the eggs. Only one so far. Hu8h. Nidhoth rumbled deep in his chestthen, lowering to allow his lifepartner to climb down from her saddle, still half awake as she dide and stumbled to lean on the male's foreleg, Nidhoth straightening with love nd delight.

Anything interesting yet my heart? Aerone questioned sleepily. Nidhoth rumbled thoughtfully before making a rough noise between a bugle and a human laugh in amusement.

No, my heart, but it does seem a candidate is hiding amother... The others I think. Otherwise Aeronemine there is still much to transpire.

If only things took off.Maybe soon? Maybe not.

Nadry and Menankith
Miiiiine, hurry! The babies are hatching, it is finally time! The brown had wasted absolutely no time in take up a spot up above to get a good view, with plenty of space saved for a certain bronze and blue. Unlike His, he didn't require much time to get ready...oh, he could have paused for one of his accessories, but his rider was a bit preoccuppied with her own preparations, and he was excited! He could save the accessorizing for later, for the Feast.

Luckily, for now it was just ('just') the Hatching, which meant Nadry didn't have quite as much fussing to do. But she still had to look decent and put together, and her hair... You didn't have your hair done for me, Menankith teased.

Oh, hush. I was in a hurry - to see you, I might add! What is it with dragons and hatching first thing in the morning. Really, though, she was ready fairly quickly, despite her dragon's teasing - she was quite efficient, unless she was dressing for an Occasion. And so she was in the Stands in good time, looking for a someone or two who were hard to miss (impossible, really, at least for her) but already distracted by what was going on down on the Sands. Her brother was down there, and as deeply as she hoped, she also worried.

... Excuse?

What, exactly, was that that he had sensed?

The dragonet's eyes, which had been a pleased green, instantly flared fully red. Indignation filled every fiber of his small being, and he gave what must have been intended to be a roar. However, it came out far more of a hiss.

A hiss that was echoed by a deep bellow of a roar from his mother, who swung her great head around to stare fixedly at Veltanna. Who did this child think that she was to disparage one of her children on their hatchday? And so soon out of the shell, no less!

Andrestia

Pale blue eyes shot open as the call went out that the eggs were soon to hatch. Excitement and nerves ran through Andrestia body, even to her fingers as they shaked a little as she slipped the white gown over her head and pulled on her sandals. Taking in a deep in a deep breath of air she followed the other candidates out to the sands taking her place among the crowd. The golds were awake as were their mates and others who were a part of the hatching each looking eager and almost fearful of their presence. Wrapping her hands around her dress she watched, waiting, almost holding her breath curious to who would come forth first.

--------
Cabhan

There was a slight groan from Cabhan as sound started to fill the candidate halls, it was almost too early to drag himself from the warm confines of his bed. Slipping on the gown, neatly washed from the last adventure on some forsaken island heat, he slowly put on his shoes and trudged out with the rest of the group. Filling in towards the back the brunette gave a slight yawn before glancing around. Everyone seemed on edge, anticipation if they were fortunate to be worthy of a dragon, being his second time attending doubt eased it's way through Cabhan's body.

----------
Vodex

He was one of the few that had almost kept out of bed as the sound to gather the candidates echoed the halls. Adrenaline ran through his body as he shocked off the shirt he slept in and pulled the gown over his head. Racing, he grabbed his shoes only bothering to attempt to slip them on his feet has he made his way down the hallways. Of course, when he hit the sands he was upfront, green eyes wide with excitement.

Veltanna blinked. Well, she had been noticed. Oops. She smiled at the gold mama for caring and then hung her head. The gold was right to chastise her. It would be terrible to send the baby between…the hiss was adorable though. Just pure adorableness. Which she realized was probably not the reaction intended. Still, she liked the bronze for it. And really, what did one girls opinion matter to the bronze. It wasn’t like she could possibly be his intended. Surely someone as proud as him would be above being petty? She could hope…

Martirae

For a moment, she thought it a green. Just long enough to ponder what Zyamel had thought of it. But only after that flickering moment of recognition did she realize it wasn't. A bronze, hmm? She mused about her discussion over that silver and green egg and found herself pondering if that young woman still wouldn't do right by it. Of course, that first meant that a bronze would have to be inclined to pick her. But as far as Marty knew, that wasn't a possibility, so she didn't hold onto much thought of it coming for her.

There were no hopes up here, but it wasn't as though anybody else was daring try to steal the show, so she'd watch. For now.

Though there was another egg beginning to wobble. Hmm.

----
Kahbrohm

The first to hatch was a bronze, which he was sure stole the heart of every boy on the sands in an instance. Even Kahbrohm admired it for a moment. But he found his attention drifted back towards that red and gold egg. What will you be? he thought it more to himself, than anybody else. It was stupid to think it would be his until it declared such, but.....

how could he not have wanted to see more of a personality that had grabbed his respect in a heartbeat?

He looked away from it when the upset of Slytherin drew Rhianth's own rumbling ire. Was that the game they were playing? It was as though Kahbrohm had missed something and now wasn't certain what.

----

Fahn

"Oh! Look at him!" Fahn didn't keep her thoughts to herself, clearly delighted by the male-green-bronze-bronze-bronze? Bronze. Her thoughts had gone shooting off so far ahead of herself that they bounced back hard enough to give another whiplash potentially. He was a nice looking dragon, right?

And that little striped egg was starting to shake too! "Go go go!" she cheered it on, though perhaps not as loudly enough to drag the attention of an upset gold to herself. Oh boy, there certainly was a fuss going on, hmm?

----

Kinyegele

Ohhhhh, Rhianth was upset again and Kinye found herself taking a step back from the eggs....only to suddenly realize she was certainly down a sandal. For a moment, she stared at her bare foot, then she leaned all her weight onto her other. This...this was fine, right?

Nerves seemed to have hit the girl all at once and there was a lot to look at. Rhianth, the green-bronze, a shaking egg, but mostly the baby dragon already on the cruise.

------

Juhvek

A bronze to start with. He could already feel how smug Phaedrath was about that, and Juhvek couldn't help but smile a bit to himself. It was a rather fine looking dragon, but apparently someone - one of the girls?- had upset it. A shame.

He'd liked it better when it was in a good mood. But maybe it would go back to that good mood again soon. Maybe.

Well. That was... somewhat better. Slytherin gathered his offended dignity about him grandly. He paused to dart a red eyed gaze at the girl, just to make sure that she was watching. He hadn't forgotten... and in fact, probably wouldn't forget. Ever.

However, he had better things to do. Things like, for example, going out to investigate the male Candidates. Some of the females seemed quite interesting, but unfortunately they didn't fit him quite so well. Slowly, he began to make his rounds, reaching out to sniff here, to pass by there.

MARILYE

Out of apparently nowhere there was a ferocious bellow from one massive golden mother, and Marilye, hands clamping firmly over her mouth, did not quite silence a shriek of surprise. Ohhhhlittlegreendragons this Hatching was suddenly frightening—but perhaps she was overreacting, as both the crowd of Candidates and the hatchling bronze seemed to quickly calm. Marilye’s momentary fear spilled from her lips in a stream of nervous giggles, and she let her hands fall to grip her robe at her sides. “Ha, well now we’re all awake,” she passed conspiratorially to a nearby Candidate.

Ruunan

As the dragonet stood there, contemplative of its choices before it, Ruunan couldn’t look away. It seemed to radiate fierceness, command respect… and it wasn’t even fully-grown. It seemed like a verious serious dragon on the surface… and speaking of surfaces, its hide dried a little more- there, in the green tone, was a hint of a shine.

It was a bronze.

Ah, fortuitous indeed. Ruunan smiled, releasing a breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding.

Hopefully the rest of the clutches were as good…

Ohhh shards and shells! He jumped a little as the golden mother bore down on another candidate. Gritting his teeth- rallying himself to fight the Fear Monster once more- he turned his attention back on the dragonet. Think positive, he reminded himself… The young candidate tried to send reassuring thoughts towards the bronze- find your rider safely…

And the creature began to move! He seemed to be careful in his study of the men, and Ruunan sucked in another breath. If he ever Impressed- if he was ever found suitable or worthy by a dragon… would it be one like this? He tried not to think about his father, and his father’s expectations.

No. If he did Impress, it wouldn’t be to his father, or to his father’s bronze. He was his own person.

Nyaranau

As the goop on the newborn dragon’s hide dried, Nyaranau’s face broke into a grin. Bronze first was supposed to be a lucky omen- if one believed in those kinds of things. Well now- and he was certainly a character. Nyara tried to stifle a giggle. “Yes, you’re handsome. We know. Aren’t you hungry?” She hoped her voice sounded encouraging, making overly-exaggerated waving motions.

Still, the grin fell from her face as the dragonet hissed, echoed by a roar from its mother. Nyara couldn’t look away from the angry gold queen, giving Veltanna a tiny bit of side-eye. Oops. She pursed her lips, turning back to the bronze.

But there was another egg shaking- shaking so vigorously it might have won a dance contest at a Gather. Look at it go! Between the Firebolt and the Slytherin-bronze, there was so much going on she could forget her prior discomfort.

Keleres

Oh, shells- angry dragon mama did not make for good company. Keleres frowned despite herself. Well, the bronze hopefully wasn’t too wounded- pride or otherwise. She did her best to send the baby some encouraging vibes, although… Pern had never heard of a female Bronzerider before. Maybe this would be a first?

No, the gorgeous bronze wandered towards the semi-circle of young male hopefuls. She tilted her head, a flicker of disappointment racing through her mind (oh, how the traditionally-minded would balk if she became a Bronzerider)- but set her sights on the quivering Firebolt.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 27, 2018 10:55 pm
Veltanna was in fact not watching. Listening very intently, but not actually watching. All the better to not think bad judgmental thoughts and get her stupid brain under control. The eggs were very interesting after all. What might come out next? Was that a scrap as the bronze walked? Yes it was. Was it close?

YURASTAR

The bronze (yes, a bronze!) was moving now, studying everyone, and Yurastar was all about watching him. How cool, to see dragonets like this and so far not be fearing for his life!

-----

FISHER

The sands were really warm and Fisher was finding herself trying not to fall asleep while standing. An egg had hatched (the mother's bellow woke her up a little bit) and then there was another one shaking. Stuff was starting to happen even if Fisher was two-thirds asleep, and she tried to hold back another yawn when she noticed a young girl nearby seemingly in distress.

Her face looked familiar enough, and Fisher slowly moved to see the issue - a missing shoe. Quietly so as not to cause problems, she moved to where she was standing on the side of the barefoot and placed her massive leg down. "Here, stand on my foot so you're not hoppin' round." Honestly she could have taken her own shoe off and given it to the kid, but then she'd be the one getting the flack from the teachers. "Don't worry 'bout hurtin' me, 'kay?"

demon_pachabel
if this is not okay please let me know?

----------

SOUI

The bellow from the golden queen prompted a faint shriek from Soui, more out of surprise than fear. Who could have been so careless already to call the wrath down of such a loving mother? It would be rude to the dragonet on the sands to look around to see, plus she didn't need to be nosy, and so the candidate kept her eyes on the lovely dragonet and on a rocking egg.

"You look stunning." The words were half-whispered, half thought, and entirely true. Girls didn't impress bronzes, she knew that, but that didn't mean an honest compliment wasn't acceptable.

----

HAVELI

Some deadglow upset the Queen and they weren't even a tick of a candlemark into the hatching. Haveli was glad she used the bathroom before coming out on the sands.
