Sorsha Sorsha was fast asleep, dreaming of dragons, when A'ral's command to get up and get robes on reverberated through the Candidate barracks. She sat bolt upright in bed, blinking stupidly. Now? NOW! The girl tumbled out of bed and quickly (if clumsily) donned her white robes and sandals and shuffled her way along with the rest of the Candidates toward the cavern where the eggs were hatching.
By the time they reached the Sands, Sorsha was fully awake and bouncing. She had been through several Hatchings by this point in her life, but they were always exciting. Finding a position near the front, she settled in and began thinking happy, welcoming thoughts at the already-wobbling eggs and the dragonets within.
A warm, gentle wave of good-luck wishes washed over her from Menyherth (and she knew from her father Cortun as well), and she sent love and excitement back to the white dragon. Maybe this time would be it!
Prism Shine for Cortun and Menyherth!
********* Tokki When A'ral announced that the eggs were hatching, Tokki was only half asleep. The anticipation of a Western Hatching was keeping him up, and he was trying not to think of his disastrous first Hatching at High Reaches. He jumped out of bed and dressed himself in the white robes and sandals at the foot of his bed, running his hands over his messy dreadlocks as he followed the other Candidates out of the barracks and across the Weyrbowl to the Hatching Ground.
The sand was just as hot here as it had been at High Reaches, but Tokki could immediately feel that the excitement in the air had a completely different feeling to it. Finding a spot on the Sands, he could see that a number of the eggs were already rocking and beginning to crack. A smile crossed his lips. He had a good feeling about this one.

Farellen was about as excited as excited got, he knew this time.. surely.. yes this was his time. He had worked so HARD to be allowed to Stand, the heavy training with his flits to compensate for his missing eye, the physiotherapy on his arm, making it almost as strong as it was before it had been broken, bad weather made it twinge but he could haul firestone just as well as other candidates, yes... he had worked so hard for this. As the hatching day got closer, Farellen found it harder and harder to get a good night's sleep, so when the call came from A'ral, along with the deep thrum in his very bones, he was awake almost instantly. He was SO ready! he rushed to get dressed, ordering his flits to stay, knowing they would. He almost forgot about the sandals rule and had to stop and change from the thin boots to his sandals. He was determined to do right, he wouldn't do anything to cause trouble, no, he'd learned that lesson the hard way. He tugged on his eyepatch and headed quickly onto the sands. Watching as eggs wiggled and made their presence known, thankfully, none had hatched before he got there. Then the Brown Paw Egg split in two "oooh well done" he thought, such a nice neat split, clean lines made him feel good, he wondered who she was going to Impress
~~~~~~~~~~
Serfie slept lightly, very lightly, she was always ready to be on her feet at the slightest provocation so when A'ral came in to gather the candidates, she was awake quickly, she took a little longer to get dressed than some others because she didn't hurry, she made sure she was properly dressed and presentable, but pulled her hair over the scarred side of her face. She filed out behind the other candidates, hanging near the back until she saw Dhawsn. Once on the sands she gravitated towards him, referring to stay near someone she knew, than among those she didn't know well. He was a friend right? "hey" she said quietly, before turning to watch the clutch, OH! one hatched, a green, nice.
~~~~~~~~~~
Being woken abruptly from a deep sleep wasn't pleasant and it took her a few beats to realise why A'ral was making demands of them. "OH!" she cried, coming awake, getting dressed and heading out with everyone else. She was nervous as she moved out onto the sands, she wasn't at her home weyr, this was the first hatching she'd been allowed to attend since she'd punched an egg, she hoped the dragons that were hatching would understand she'd had good intentions, she really hadn't meant to hurt the baby inside and she'd been very very glad the little white hadn't been permanently traumatised. She tried to keep such thoughts from her head as she watched the brown egg split, revealing a little green hatchling, wondering a little at her red eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~
Bekah was roused from her sleep in the early hours of the morning, Western Weyr's clutch was hatching, she rubbed sleep from her eyes, grabbed her medical bag and headed to a dragon that was to transport her and other healers from High reaches, not that Western needed the extra hands but it was always good training hatching injuries were different from threadfall injuries so it all helped the apprentices learn towards Journeyman and then master. She thanked the dragon and rider and headed to the healer tables with all the other healers, eyeing the Sands as a green hatched from one of the eggs. She wished Tass was here with her, or rather, down on the Sands but he had decided to stay home at HR, instead of attending, which was fine but it had caused a fight, this was her job, she wasn't going to abandon it, not even for love.
T'laq and Blue Nandith
In spite of the unusual hour, Nandith and His arrived promptly, both quite alert and well put-together. Being awakened in the dark hours was no excuse for not looking their best, after all! Nandith hadn't seen his Western-based clutchmates in an age, and so he absolutely needed his very best tack and accessories for the occasion. His rider's look was considerably more understated - as was his enthusiasm - but they looked good together, which was ever an aim of Nandith's.
Once they'd deposited those they'd been asked to transport, T'laq looked for a place in the Stands as Nandith sought a family member to settle near, projecting warm affection to every brother and sister...and Susurinth, of course! Oh, dear Mother, sister Khamaith, brother Baihath, I have been so worried about you all! It has torn at my hearts to know that you were hurt, and to be so far from you...
To be so far from you all, he added for all of them to hear, with a fawning sigh to accompany the words. It has been much too long.
Quote: too many siblings to quote, Nandith is here to !!! at u all!
Farellen watched, jaw literally dropping as the egg near the already hatched green, cracked, revealing TWIN GOLDS..... he gasped, neither were meant for him but WOW!
~~~~~~~~~~
Serfie couldn't contain the squeal as twin golds hatched, twins had been hatched but twin GOLDS? .... it was certainly more interesting now, she was sure neither was for her, she didn't dare dream,... ANY dragon would be perfect for her but as a girl, she couldn't help being interested.
~~~~~~~~~~
Helane definitely squealed, but clamped her hand over her mouth as the green olive egg hatched, "TWO GOLDS?" she squealed, a strangled noise as she fought to keep her voice down. WOW! could one of those babies be for her? either gold or the green, it would be just amazing, she shook in excitement, her body practically vibrating. wow wow wow....
~~~~~~~~~~
Bekah stared, well this certainly was something to take back home, twin golds in an almost toosmall egg, she wondered if they would be stunted because of it, or if there would be other health repurcussions. She mused as she tended to the tables, hopefully their services wouldn't be too badly needed.

Phryana
Her awakening was sudden and sharp, her breath held even as her body tensed in preparation for what was to come. It took her only a moment to realize why she'd been roused, and Phryana flew into motion. Years of practice had her washed and presentable, twisting her now-glossy hair up and adjusting her white robe so it fit just so. Now composed, the woman walked with her head held high, the very picture of serenity. No amount of deep, even breathing could steady her pulse, however.
She strode onto the sands, carefully keeping her footing despite the darkness of the hour. The sound of thrumming dragons pressed down upon her, almost overwhelming, and Phryana did her best to ignore it all. Her life could change in an instant today--and she was ready for it. She did not look up at the Stands... but she hoped, at least, for one set of eyes to be upon her. The woman had little interest in standing with the other white-robed fellows clustered about, and intended to find a less occupied space to stand when something caught her eye.
Motionless for only a moment as eggs twitched, wobbled, and even fell, Phryana took her place beside a small, timid looking child. In that instant, a green emerged from an egg she remembered very well. "She's beautiful, mm?" She spoke quietly, glancing briefly at the Candidate with a slight smile before returning her attention to the green. Proud and sure of herself, as she should be. She did have a fondness for greens.
Maybe she was getting soft, but this poor, tiny thing all but screamed of timidity. It didn't feel right to leave them all alone.
As the Olive egg split apart, Phryana blinked with shock. Golds--not just one, but teins!

It was more interesting now? The Brown Paw Print green hissed. Wasn't she interesting? Oh, that was enough. More than enough. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, and from all sides! Even Father was beside himself over her stupid sisters! Weren't they at Western Weyr???
Hissing, the Brown Paw Print green tore the Daisy egg open, spilling a tiny green who squeaked in dismay out onto the Sands. Then, not finished in her tantrum, she tore open the Gay Flag Egg, revealing not just a little blue, but also a little green!
That would teach her special sisters to hatch when she was hatching! Rude. So rude. So very rude. Ugh. The Candidates were not out of hot water, as the Brown Paw Print continued to hiss and watch them with evident dislike. So. Rude.
This was her moment. Her moment! One could only hatch once, and her moment had been RUINED! She stalked over to the Funfetti egg, and rubbed her head along it. Rude!

Jacquol—She/Her It was proof positive of how a turn or two spent at the Weyr had softened her that when the call to rise and prepare came, Jacquol hadn’t instantly leapt to her feet, bright-eyed and alert. Oh, she'd popped right up, of course, but if she’d been expected to defend a ship or drive into a storm things would have gone quite poorly—her head was all cotton at the edges, slowly peeled back as she got dressed and toed on the sandals they’d been given.
She’d only been asleep an hour or two, but at last she felt tiredness sloughing off of her as they reached the sands and the eggs began their shaking. A green hatched first, out of one of the eggs she’d touched—the one that had bitten back. A gorgeous if red-eyed green, she was, and Jackie tracked her sith a keen eye over the sands. Good morning to you too, sunshine! At least now if anyone tries to touch you when you don’t want it, you can have a swipe at them for real, huh? Not that she wanted to see blood—she just remembered how unhappy the poor egg had seemed with too much attention on it.
Meztli—They/Them/He/Him Mmmph. Huh? Oh. Alright, alright... they were getting up, honest. With their rust-colored hair undone in a tangled cloud of bed-head, they slowly hauled on the candidate robe and shoes. Couldn’t the eggs pick a better time than the middle of the night? Mez needed their beauty sleep after all. Still the excitement of the hour was not to be denied, and though still apparently full of the urge to yawn, they felt themselves perking up a bit once they reached the sands.
Olive egg toppled right over, well on its way to hatching, but it was the brown egg that split first, dumping an irritated looking green onto the sands. Well, they could certainly sympathize there—wasn’t it a bit early? Or late? For all this? Still, the hatchling had their undevided attention, and they watched as it got to its shaky feet with no little awe. Beautiful.

Nyrida, she/her Nyrida was a light enough sleeper, and as A'ral began to wake up the other candidates, she stirred, turning her head towards him. As she realized what was happening--the hatching!--she practically leaped out of bed, an uncharacteristic move for her. She did not take long getting ready, as her heart pounded in her chest. Her first hatching...she did not feel especially lucky or hopeful, but she was somewhat excited to at least see it from the sands.
Tradition meant that she wore white robes and thin sandals; she did not complain as she slipped into them. She blinked the grogginess from her eyes as she made her way towards the sands, along with the other candidates. With a mixture of alert adrenaline and exhaustion, she listened to the candidatemaster, nodding as she noted his apparent stress.
She did not look as good as she might have if given more time to prepare, and white did not suit her as well as another color might have, but Nyrida at least looked presentable. As she entered the hot sands, she was acutely aware of how little protection the sandals offered. Still, she refused to let it distract her, as she gave a careful, polite bow to the queen and her eggs, before taking her place among the other candidates.
The eggs began to twitch and rock, a few of them looking like they might hatch, but it was a quiet egg that hatched first. The Brown Paw Print egg hatched into a green, and she looked...annoyed, at least. Nyrida would need to be cautious if the dragon approached her, but she kept her thoughts open and welcoming. A beautiful green was a good color to hatch first, she thought. A good omen. Green Olive was next, revealing another good omen--two gold dragons. Twins. Nyrida gasped softly, surprised. That would be good for the Weyr.
Her pleasure quickly turned to horror, as the green approached several eggs and ripped them open. Frustrating though it might be, her moment likely ruined, it...filled her with concern. Were those hatchlings okay? She felt helpless as the dragonet continued her rampage, and Nyrida attempted to send soothing thoughts towards the dragon.
Kyzier, they/them Kyzier blinked, before throwing their blankets to the side. Hatching, hatching, hatching!!! It was time to seize their destiny as a dragonrider. They wondered what they would Impress, but they were determined to do just that. At Western, any rider could rise in rank, but they were certain they'd Impress gold or bronze, regardless. Who cared that no nonbinary bronze or goldriders existed? They could just be the first.
They rushed to get ready, slipping into their white robes and sandals. As they headed to the sands, they braided their long hair with practiced ease, so that they managed to look good enough to greet their future dragon. They were among the first on the sands, as they were determined to get on them as soon as they could. As they did, they gave Killakeeth a bow and a wink, before moving back to stand among the other candidates.
As they watched, eggs began to rock in earnest, only for the first to be a lovely green. Kyzier clapped for her, even if she looked a bit disappointed in her prospects. Still, the first dragon! She was lovely! Next were...Kyzier blinked as twin golds emerged. Whoa, that was a treat! They hardly ignored the green, but they were certainly interested in the golds. Their focus turned out, however, to contribute to the green's frustration, as she tore into several shells, spilling a green, and then another pair of twins, blue and green, onto the sands. Kyzier balled their fists, but didn't move, of course. They kept their thoughts as neutral as they could, but...how could they not worry for the dragonets? The other candidates, even? What would this green do?

Farellen couldn't help but feel guilty when the first hatched green started to tantrum, he shouldn't have been so in awe of the Golds, they clearly weren't for him anyway. He couldn't help wince as she tore one egg, then another, more twins? ... shards ....
~~~~~~~~~~
Helane winced as the green that hatched first threw a tantrum and ripped open two of her sibling's eggs....wait .. make that three, there was MORE TWINS? wowee! All so exciting, all thoughts of her misdeeds previously fled. Hatchings were scary and fun, mostly fun.
~~~~~~~~~~
Serfie's stomach dropped as the green that hatched first seemed to go on a little rampage after the excitement over the twin golds, she guessed the green felt slighted. She looked away as the green tore open first one egg than another, revealing three siblings, she hoped those babies were okay, all three seemed rather small, twins of course would be but the one from Daisy Egg seemed rather smaller than normal.
