Eliaza

Name: Eliaza
Age: 18 19
Nameday: 3558.13.13
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Vintner
Rank: Apprentice
Location: High Reaches Weyr

Physical Description: Eliaza does her best to play down the fact that she's growing into womanly curves. Her clothing is always a little loose, on purpose and she would rather wear trousers than gowns if given a choice. She is of average height and slender in build. Her eyes are a rich brown, her skin a little golden though certainly nothing near an Istan sun-brown, and her hair is a dark ginger, verging on brown that twists in tight spirals to the middle of her back. She most often has it pulled back into a quick braid, but tendrils spring free, despite her best efforts.

Personality: Eliaza prefers to be noticed for her talents and skills, rather than for her looks. She has a good sense of humor and when it comes to teasing, she gives as good as she gets. She does have two brothers, after all. Ask her about wrestling, some time. She is ordinarily a thoughtful girl, preferring to consider her options before she makes a decision. Sometimes, however, impulse gets the better of her, particularly when faced with a new, exciting prospect.

She is body self-conscious and does anything she can to deflect attention if her appearance is commented on. She is also fiercely competitive, particularly when a challenge is issued directly, even if it's only in fun. She doesn't lose unless she's honestly outmatched, thank you. Having spent two years at Vintner Hall, there's no question that she's seen her share of drunken antics. While she understands that there are reasons to drink, and she certainly wants someone to one day appreciate the ciders she makes, she disapproves of the true drunkard, someone who is always drinking or intoxicated.

Positive Trait List Intelligent. Confident. Thoughtful.
Negative Trait List Competitve. Body insecure. Judgmenal when it comes to drinking.

History: Eliaza is a Hold girl, plain and simple. She was born at High Reaches Hold and grew up racing her brothers through the halls, in between chores and lessons. As comfortable roughhousing with the boys as sitting at her mother's knee and learning how to make tidy stitches, she was happy with Hold life. Of course, as she grew older, the question of where her future would lead came up. Living in a Hold beholden to High Reaches Weyr, she thought she knew a thing or two about riders. She enjoyed their stories when they came to visit or trade, but she didn't dream of joining them in the skies, not like her brothers did, who played Wingrider and Dragon for hours every day.

No, her dreams drifted toward the kitchen and then, more determinedly, toward the redfruit orchards around the Hold and the notion of coming up with a sweet spiced cider that she could drink every day, and not just at festivals. At sixteen, she asked permission to leave the Hold and apprentice at Vintner Hall.

She'd been there for two years and had gone from a homesick girl to looking forward to the day she got to walk the tables and earn the Journeyman title. She hoped she'd be assigned home so she could get to work with the finest of each redfruit crop.

Then a Searchrider came to the Hall and his dragon chose her as a Candidate. It may have been her brothers' dream to Stand, but she'd been well taught not to turn down an opportunity, so she agreed to go and take her chances. After all, if she didn't Impress, the vats and casks would still be waiting.

Other: Eliaza has two younger brothers, 16 and 14, who could be played.

Zh'gan

Name: Zh'gan (formerly Zhaydegan)
Age: 19 20
Nameday: 3557.04.23
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: It's all good.
Craft: Coulda been a starcrafter.
Rank: Unofficial apprentice
Location: Western Weyr

Physical Description: Zhaydegan is a good looking young man and quite aware of the fact. He doesn't deliberately flaunt it, but he is not at all shy about using it in combination with his charm and he will never turn down a compliment. He is too narrowly built to ever be "rugged" but he's growing out of the lankyness of his teen years and beginning to settle into more of an athletic build: broad shoulders, trim waist, enough muscle to make him capable without being obnoxious. An outdoor-type, he's sun-browned and often has both sleeves and pantlegs rolled up for comfort's sake. His hair is a nearly-black brown, close cropped except his top locks which shag into his eyes, and there is the faintest bit of shadow to his cheeks and jaw. His eyes are a warm brown and a confident smile ever present.

Personality: Zhaydegan is perfectly comfortable where he is. Yes, it's the only life he's ever known, but it's more than that. He's content and happy, not feeling like he's missing out on anything, because he isn't. If he wants to meet someone or talk to That Person Over There, he does it. Wants to invite himself to share a seat looking up at the stars or a place at a lower caverns table, he does it without hesitation. He'll invite himself to lean against a shoulder, too, or sling his arm around someone's shoulder. If you think he's flirting with you, it's a good bet he is. Will he follow through on a flirt? Respond in kind and find out. Long story short, he's not all that respectful of personal space, but he takes correction pretty well, suffering only a brief moment of confusion before he's moved on again.

He's a bright young man and that's not just him bragging on himself. He has a love of maps and star charts and can often be found perched somewhere high, particularly on summer nights, with a handmade chart in his hand, making adjustments and changes as he discovers them. He understands this stuff, and truly enjoys learning the things he doesn't know yet. If he never finds a dragon on the Sands, he hopes he'll be allowed to, at the very least, assist in keeping charts updated, official Starcrafter or no. He is also a planner. Along he maps, he has several that map out the quickest way across the Weyr, how to get to high ground, open spaces with efficiency and the best way to check on those he cares about with the fewest wasted moments. In games of team against team, he's quick to come up with srategies on how to win and how to take advantage of a difference in numbers or pure, physical size.

There is, however, a part of him that he very rarely talks about that feels a little like some of his choices in life have been taken from him by virture of being born in the Weyr and to a family of riders. He feels that he is *expected* to follow in their path and that he will be a disappointment if he doesn't. It troubles him in his most quiet moments.

Zhaydegan goes out of his way to avoid sad situations. It is the one emotion he cannot control and so he will go to extraordinary measures not to let on that he's feeling sad, or at least, not to be seen with tears in his eyes. Disappointment, anger, even fear is manageable, but he cannot handle tears with any sort of grace.

Positive Trait List Intelligent, cheerful, flirty, family oriented, strategic
Negative Trait List No sense of personal space, pushy, tear-phobic, inwardly insecure

History: Zhaydegan was born in Western Weyr and has lived a pretty standard Weyrbrat's life. Where that differs is that there's never been a question of his parentage or what family he belongs to. He is and will probably always been very close to his siblings and cousins and -- well, you get the picture. Anyone who is part of the family headed by F'gon, his father's father, is kin and he'll treat them as such.

F'gon, as a matter of fact, is probably where he learned his love of maps and starcharts. It's a point of pride for him to bring anything he has drawn up and have the older man approve or applaud his efforts. Give that Thread has returned and impacted his family directly, with the death of his aunt, he is determined to learn and map out, even on an amateur scale, how and when and why Thread falls, for the sake of the rest of them, draagon or no.

Despite his personality uncertainties, he's been Standing for hatchines since he was eligible, beside his cousins and sister, and he will continue to do so until he's found or he ages out.

And after that? Well. Maybe that's written in the stars, too.

Other: Zhaydegan has a younger, candidate-aged sister.

Bronze Manahahtath
Written by Uta
Colored by Meepfur

User Image

Origin of Name: Manahahtath's name is inspired from the borough of Manhattan. It's name derives from the Munsee Lenape language term manaháhtaan (where manah- means "gather", -aht- means "bow", and -aan is an abstract element used to form verb stems). The Lenape word has been translated as "the place where we get bows" or "place for gathering the (wood to make) bows". According to a Munsee tradition recorded in the 19th century, the island was named so for a grove of hickory trees at the lower end that was considered ideal for the making of bows. It was first recorded in writing as Manna-hata, in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet, an officer on Henry Hudson's yacht Halve Maen (Half Moon).

Inspiration: Manhatten

A Manhattan is a cocktail made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. While rye is the traditional whiskey of choice, other commonly used whiskies include Canadian whisky, bourbon, blended whiskey, and Tennessee whiskey. The cocktail is usually stirred then strained into a cocktail glass and garnished with a dark Maraschino cherry. A Manhattan may also be served on the rocks in a lowball glass

The whiskey-based Manhattan is one of five cocktails named for a New York City borough. It is closely related to the Brooklyn cocktail, which uses dry vermouth and Maraschino liqueur in place of the Manhattan's sweet vermouth, and Amer Picon in place of the Manhattan's angostura bitters.

The Manhattan is one of six basic drinks listed in David A. Embury's 1948 classic The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.

Popular history suggests that the drink originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the mid 1870s, where it was invented by Dr. Iain Marshall for a banquet hosted by Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill, mother of Winston) in honor of presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. The success of the banquet made the drink fashionable, later prompting several people to request the drink by referring to the name of the club where it originated—"the Manhattan cocktail". However, Lady Randolph was in France at the time and pregnant, so the story is likely a fiction.

However, there are prior references to various similar cocktail recipes called "Manhattan" and served in the Manhattan area. By one account it was invented in the 1860s by a bartender named Black at a bar on Broadway near Houston Street.

The original "Manhattan cocktail" was a mix of "American Whiskey, Italian Vermouth, and Angostura bitters". During Prohibition (1920–1933) Canadian whisky was primarily used because it was available.

An early record of the cocktail can be found in William Schmidt's The Flowing Bowl, published in 1891. In it, he details a drink containing 2 dashes of gum (gomme syrup), 2 dashes of bitters, 1 dash of absinthe, 2⁄3 portion of whiskey, and 1⁄3 portion of vermouth.

The same cocktail appears listed as a "Tennessee Cocktail" in Shake 'em Up! by V. Elliott and P. Strong: "Two parts of whiskey, one part of Italian Vermouth, and a dash of bitters poured over ice and stirred vigorously."

Personality: If ever there was a bronze who was destined to sit at the top, it was Manahahtath. This bronze might have been born at Western, but he also knows he was shelled as part of the upper-crust of Pernese dragon hierarchy. He's important and boy ever does he know it. Not, of course, that he needs others to tell him as much--it's simply a fact. Sophistication comes easy to this bronze, and he has a keen interest in knowledge. He'll take to the weyrling lessons easily, and likely encourage His to participate in digging through the archives, and better learning about the world. If His has no craft, he'll encourage him to pick one up in their spare time; facts comes easy to him, and he'll happily share what he knows with those who care to listen. He's a clever beast, and his high-intelligence is often on display.

He's smart, but he's also handsome. Indeed, Manahahtath is a dapper and posh fellow. He expects to have the best of everything--not, of course, because he's a hedonist--but because he naturally deserves it. He might have more taste than to say as much, but His will know, and he will tastefully remind his clutchmates who they happen to be sitting with. If his rider doesn't have marks, he'll definitely need to find a way to procure them, because Manahahtath is the sort of bronze who has expensive taste. He'll want new straps made from only the finest leather, and is certain he can tell when the cheap stuff is used. His riders clothing will certain chafe his hide if cheaply made, and he will expect the two of them to be seen according to their station. He is as dapper as a dragon can get, and lives as posh a style as he's able. Pity they weren't hatched at High Reaches--for as soon as he finds out how bronzes are treated over there, you can bet he'll be wanting that same treatment in Western.

While His will find a dragon that is nothing short of high-maintenance, to his clutchmates and the world, Manahahtath will be nothing but the epitome of a fine dragon. While he certainly believes himself to be far superior to, well, just about everyone--he would never be so rude to say it. At least not around strangers or acquaintances. Those who fall into his close-knit circle might well find the truth--though if one were to really look, those closest to him tend to be fellow metallics. One must travel in circles most befitting to ones station, after all. While he can be polite and charming to those of any color, he's the sort who can't help but see himself as better. He'll take pity on those born beneath him, because honestly, they can't help they weren't born of higher rank. Any friendliness he might have with them is purely superficial--for he is a worldly dragon who knows that, as a dragon of good breeding, he will be looked upon by those who are less his equal.

Traditionalist by nature, as he grows he will chafe at the Western ideals. Still, it is his home, and he will abide by their system for now. Perhaps with time he'll convince his to go elsewhere; or perhaps he'll find a better reason to stay. Either way, this bronze might struggle under the command of a chromatic, and will certainly do what he can to encourage His to rub elbows with those of the council, or at least those with rank. Surely, their place is meant to be on top, and he'll do what he must to get there.

Positive Traits: Sophisticated, Dapper, Posh
Negative Traits: Traditionalist, Superiority Complex, High-Maintenance

Egg: A medium green tribal egg.

Adult Size: 86'
Physical Attributes: Manahahtath is a large bronze, even if he's not, perhaps, the largest out there. He is strong, buts sleekly built, and can carry himself swiftly while on wing. He is surprisingly quick in air for a dragon of his size. His wings are long and not quite as wide as some others out there, allowing for more agility and speed. His neck and tail make up much for Manahahtath, which makes his body even smaller compared to bronzes of similar size.

Additional Notes: Manahahtath knows he was hatched for a gold, and will certainly not hesitate to participate in any and all gold flights. While he might--might--chase a green for short-term interest, his eyes are certainly on all those who glitter. He has no desire to make long-term attachments to those who aren't gold. Bronzes are the proper mates of queens, after all--even if Western seems to have forgotten such a thing.

Impression Effect: Zhaydegan is going to find himself with a permanent confidence boost that's noticeable from day one. While he will still have some insecurity, naturally, he will find it's far easier to walk with his head held high and pride in his every step. He's now part of an exclusive club--even if he's at Western Weyr--or so Manahahtath will remind him. His position is secure, and he will find a new fearlessness that he might not have originally possessed.

Why Me? Zhaydegan (Samuel Carlin)

Zhaydegan might think that it's expected of him to become a rider, but Manahahtath knows it's his destiny. He was born to be his rider, like it or not. To start, this bronze appreciates the fact that Zhaydegan is a Weyrbrat. This bronze is full of tradition, and appreciates that His comes from a long and "prestigious" family line. The Weyr is where they're meant to be, and he will cast aside any doubt that Zhaydegan might have about his place. Why map the stars when they can fly to them? No height will be too high for Manahahtath and he will carry His straight to the to--figuratively and literally. This posh and dapper dragon needed someone who was clever and could keep up with him. Where this bronze has a drive to go up the chain of command, it's Zhay's strategic nature that will help ensure they'll make great future Wingleaders and Weyrleaders (if Manahahtath has his way). He's high-maintenance, and demanding, but Zhaydegan is known to be pushy himself, and should be able to help keep this dragon in line when he's at his worst. And there will be some days when this bronze is definitely the worst. Any insecurity within Zhaydegan will be balanced out by this bronze's sense of superiority. He will find an absolute ally in Manahahtath, and be supported anytime he starts to doubt. Together, rider and dragon balance one another and should be able to help each other grow. Manahahtath can polish up Zhaydegan and turn him into quite the sophisticated man, while Zhaydegan will be able to soften Manahahtath's worst views, or at least, keep the bronze in check. Together, this pair has the possibility to go very far, indeed.

Cassali

Name: Cassali
Age: 68 69
Nameday: 3508.05.13
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Very happy with S'une
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: None official

Physical Description: Cassali can hold her own, still fighting fit, at 5' 5" or so. Hair that was always sunstreaked brown has begun to show some grey but she wears her silver with pride, hair cut into a comfortably short cap that sometimes sticks up at the crown of her head with a will of it's own, covers her ears and hugs her neck, a maintainable pixie style. When not flying duty shifts, she prefers trousers that cut off mud-calf, sleeveless tunics and her well-worn sandals. Though smiles and weather have begun to leave a history of lines at her eyes, they are still bright and sharp, and a rich, dark brown.

Personality: In cassali's mind, family will always come first. Family doesn't only mean those who are related to her by blood, however. She has "adopted" many a new arrival to the Weyr who might be struggling with a transition between hold life and their new experiences or some other discomfort that needs a motherly touch. Not officially, mind. With three children of her own, she would never have taken in more from the creche, but she is certainly willing to spend some time telling stories at bedtime or wiping away the tearful remains of a scraped knee.

If she is motherly, though, she is also a disciplinarian. There is no skating by on soft words along. She will help you sort through your troubles or find a place to belong, but she does not believe in excuses or giving up. She believes whole-heartedly that there is nothing on Pern that cannot be overcome, though it may be hard or exhausting or painful. She expects everyone to try and has no patience for those who refuse.

Once upon a time she enjoyed being chased by men as much as her dragon thrilled in leading Flights. As some of the weyrbred are, she didn't hold out for her One True Love and finds some narrower hold-bred mindsets about sex and relationships amusingly limited and sometimes downright puzzling. She tries not to judge, but she believes life is to be lived, not reserved, and she might have very well gone on living without a steady partner had she not truly fallen in love with S'une.

She is not a rulebreaker, but she does sometimes like to skirt the edge of a rule rather than following it closely. She would, and will, never put anyone in danger or dey an order, and if she sees or hears of anyone taking excessive risks, she will step in and put an end to it in anyway she can.

She is fiercely protective of those who are Hers: her weyrmate, her children, her dragon, her dearest friends. Don't let the fact that she rarely raises her voice fool you: she can scratch and claw and bite if need be. It just takes extraordinary circumstances to make that side of her come out. Should it be provoked in her, however, she will not apologize. It's not pride or arrogance. It's just matter of factly the way things had to be done.

Positive Trait List Soft-spoken, motherly, compassionate, understanding, dedicated.
Negative Trait List [Fiercely protective, a rule-bender, expectant, disciplinarrian

History: Cassali and her sisters grew up in Western Weyr at a time when Threa was more a legend than a dreaded reality. Her parents, both healers had been sent to the Weyr to help when a wave of fever swept through the residents. Her father found the challenge of fighting to beat back the illness an exhilerating challenge. Her mother, preferred the Weyr's layout and the people compared to the cramped Hold tey'd been serving in. They decided to make Western Weyr their home and raise a family there.

Her mother's favorite part of her duties was serving as a midwife, so early on, Cassali was exposed to families and children. It was not at all uncommon for Cassali to spend a whole day helping to watch over the Weyr's children or the families of visiting traders whpse young children couldn't be left behind as they caravaned from place to place.

Now and then, of course, a dragon would rise or a gold would come from outside the Weyr, in need of a place to lay and hatch her eggs. Those were always magical and terrifying times for Cassali. She was asked -- no, expected -- to take a place on the Sands once she old enough, and she did so, half-afraid and half-hoping that one of the odd, magnificent beasts might choose her so she could understand what visiting riders had tried to share, but had gone over her head.

It happened when she was nearly twenty, when her parents only encouraged her out of habit and her younger sisters laughed because she was still trying, while they, both younger, surely had a better chance. During that Hatching,as she held back tears of hope, she finally heardadragon say, Don't cry, Cassalimine. Your Diadrith is here!

Life slid into fat forward the moment she became a Weyrling. More needy than a child, but far more important, Cassali threw everything into not only learning to be a rider but learning Diadrith herself. More than companions, more than friends, they were immediately inseparable and Diadrith's moods became her own.

Which is how a post-graduation impulse to visit Black Sands Hold, a place she had always heard about but never been permitted to go, turned into a quick vacation that changed Cassali's life yet again. She met S'une and Seifoth, a dragon riding pair unlike any she'd ever met. Tall and handsome and a little bit dangerous, Cassali has admited it's likely she ever stood a chance, not in combination with Seifoth's hunger for another dragon's company. What could have been a one-time encounter turned into a seriies of happy reunions that, eventually as they will, resulted in a child.

To Cassali's relief, S'une agreed to come to the Weyr and to stay with her. To be a father to their child. To their children, more importantly, as two daughters followed the birth of their first, and only, son. With each child, she saw more and more of the man she'd fallen in love with almost, and a little surprisingly, at first sight. They raised their children. They learned to navigate life with two larger-than-life dragons.

And then Thread returned and life changed on a half-mark again.

In the chaos and panic of First Fall, Cassali's youngest sister went missing. She fled the Weyr with a handful of others. Though search parties went looking for them after the skies were cleared, they were not found and, as such, are largely counted among the lost. It is a feeling Cassali never wants to repeat, and it turned her from someone assuming that friends and family will always be near into a woman who will fight to make that so, as hard and for as long as she can.

Other: Cassali and S'une have three children: one son and two daughters: they re in their mid-thirties to mid-forties. The middle sister is still alive, is in her mid-sixties. Her youngest sister disappeared during First Fall and is presumed dead.

Diadrith

User Image

Name: Diadrith
Age: 49
Color: Green
Size: 48’

Physical Description: Diadrith is a compact green, making her body seem somehow shorter than it is, despite the fact that she is pretty average in size for a green. It may have something to do with her almost dual-toned coloration. Whatever the reason, there’s nothing physically different about her than any other dragon. She is, however, exceedingly quick and while not as agile as she once was, she can still turn on a mark.

Personality: Diadrith is a caretaker. She is interested in the goings on around her, and particularly aware of the needs of other dragons. If one of them is worried or in pain or afraid, it’s Diadrith’s aim to calm them and keep them company until better help can arrive.

She is a sprited dragon, and has been since her hatching. She loves to play, both with Cassali and other dragons. She particularly with the young. Once her rider and her weyrmate began having having childre, Diadrith became a defender of the small, playing ledge guardian to keeping toddling littles from tipping over the edge, among other things.

She is a very affectionate dragon. Of course her Cassali will always come first, but she is very attached to S’une and Seifoth alike. She is known to “try to communicate” by crooning and warbling even to those who are not her rider, and if those who are considered friends are not wary, they might find themselves bowled over by an enthusiatic green head.

She still rises and she does so for the sheer thrill of the chase. Unless there is a particularly clever dragon chasing her, the majority of her Flights are won by Seifoth, by choice. (And her rider does not stray from her weyrmate.)

Anneke

Name: Anneke
Age: 24
Nameday: 3552.11.07
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Okay!
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: If applicable.

Physical Description: Anneke is best described as a bundle of boundless energy, but that doesn't make clear what she actually looks like, does it? Not much over five feet tall, Anneke is still somehow a willowy thing, long of limb despite the fact that she won't tower over anyone. Where she was once all angles, she's now softened a bit, a few soft curves creeping in, now that she doesn't have to run everywhere she goes. She has deep dimples on both cheeks and a spray of freckles across the bridge of her nose and cheeks. Dark brown hair is thick, wavy, and just long enough to kiss her jaw. More often than not, she's got the longest locks pulled back into a tiny topknot so they stay out of her eyes. Those hazel eyes are almost always alight with mischief and mirth and her smile is ever-present. She favors sturdy shirts and trouses or coveralls, though she does have better clothing for better occasions.

Personality: Energetic, energetic and energetic. That sums Anneke up very neatly. For a little thing, she's got endless stores of get up and go. That may be in part because she seems to be able to eat endlessly as well, but the majority just comes from somewhere within. Anneke has never been good at holding still and has yet to show any sign of growing into the ability.

Despite the fact that she is always tapping a quill or jostling a leg while she sits or chats, she is not as flighty as she might seem. Quite to the contrary. Anneke is very bright and might surprise someone judging her on appearance and behavior alone. Despite being a rider, or perhaps because of it and having seen the devastation that the return of Threadfall brought, she's taken up a hobby of trying to grow sturdy plants in boxes on the ledge of her weyr. She may not be farmcrafters-breeding-new-strains of grain clever, but she has developed quite the proficient green thumb by experimenting on her own.

She loves to explore the Weyr and its surroundings, and takes great pride both in the fact that she has found many truly well-hidden hiding spots and her ability to climb. Trees, walls, into and out of tight spaces. She likes to get to the top of places it should be impossible to reach, and then come down again as quickly as she can. She is not particularly reckless, as she knows her limits and never tries to exceed them by too much. Neither is she particularly clumsy. Her trips and falls and stumbles would and could happen to anyone.

She is only too willing to lead others on adventures with her, but rarely waits for someone else to take the initiative. If she wants to do something or go somewhere, she does and she goes. She can control and restrain herself when it's appropriate. She listens to discussion and other points of view willingly, but she doesn't often take the time to thoroughly examine the outcome of her actions. She is human. She makes mistakes and is quick to apologize and eager to make up for whatever she's done wrong, but a mistake won't necessarily stop her from daring again.

She believes that people are nice by nature and that everyone she meets is potentially a friend. This excessive optimism and gullibility has gotten her hurt more than once and yet, after spending a few days licking her wounds, she bounces right back up with a smile and a renewed determination to meet someone new and have a good time. Oddly enough, she does not have a stable of "best" friends. It takes time for her to develop those sorts of relationships. There are a few people she might call close friends, but far fewer than might be assumed.

Positive Trait List Outgiung, adventurous, energetic.
Negative Trait List Restless, unpredictable, unthinking.

History: Anneke was born in a little cothold to northeast of Western Hold proper. Just a short dash across the clearing was a world of trees and shadowed places where she lived out many an adventure when chores and meals and studies didn't call for her attention. It was there she learned both her skill at climbing and her love of growing things. She stayed away from the business of seriously experimenting until she reached Western Weyr, but she still helped to tend the little patch of garden her mother kept and knew, at the very least, how to pick off the fading and curling leaves.

When she got older she found herself torn between the urge to stay home and simply live her life with her parents and her brothers and the little community she'd always known and the desire to get out and explore the world. They'd had visitors enough for her to know that there was a vast continent (and more) waiting to be discovered. She'd taken trips with the family to visit Rivercrest, a place both a little scary and a little exciting, and of course attended Gathers ad get-togethers at Western itself. There was a part of her that would have been content to stay at home, tending runners with her father and eventually settling into a family all her own. The louder part, though, the one bursting at the seams with curiosity pushed her to make a decision she hasn't regretted once.

When her older brother earned a spot on a trade caravan to Western Weyr, he invited Anneke along, to get her away from home and to help scratch the growing itch she felt to see the world. With her parents' agreement that it might at the least buy them a little time before she began to chafe in the confines of home again, she eagerly agreed and promised to be on her best behavior. To help along the way and to be a good representative of the Hold among Weyrfolk.

She held up her end of the bargain a little too well, her parents might say, as a very charismatic Searchriding pair put a trundlebug in her ear and set her mind whirling. Could this be the next step in the grand adventure she'd set out on when she left home? With twinkling eyes and a very solemn promise that she'd come right home if it didn't work out, Anneke convinced her brother into letting her stay long enough to stand through one cycle.

And found her beloved Uluth on the Sands at the next Hatching.

Since then, she has been an enthusiastic resident of Western Weyr. Yes, of course, she misses home and family, but the blessing of a dragon is that, when she needs a quick trip home and the skies are clear enough, she can go and be back with little time lost. Since Thread has returned, she is even more certain that she and Uluth are where they need to be and she will do her best to do her duties well until her time has ended or Thread disappears from the skies again.

Other: People are great! Dragons are great! Also, she has an older brother who is/was a trader from near Western Hold. 26-27. Playable and his career path can be changed!

Uluth

Name: Uluth
Age: 6
Color: Green
Size: 48'
Physical Description: Uluth is a lean dragon, long and thin and sleekly muscled. This is a dragon designed to be quick and agile. She is long at either end, neck and tail both thin and very flexible. If it were possible for a dragon to tie herself in knots, Uluth might well do it. You would hae a hard time telling which end was which as well, because she has an unusual patterning that would probably serve her well if she were to dart in and out of treees.

Personality: Uluth can probably best be described as cautiously amiable. She would love to make friends and have everything be happy sunshine and butterflies, but she can't just assume everyone wants the same thing. There are many kinds of dragons in the world, and not all of them share her love of laughter and friendship, nor should they have to. Uluth wants to spread her happiness where it's wanted and cheer up those dragons who seem to want to be lifted from their troubles. She's endlessly sweet and her cautious nature helps her keep from getting on the bad sides of too many dragons.

Uluth is not what one would call "an adventurer," but she is a follower, and if her rider were to convince her an adventure might be fun Uluth would probably go along with it, while still trying to provide a more temperate voice to calm any crazy urges: 'Mine, you really shouldn't climb those rocks. That ledge looks like it might break.' Fun, she's all for, so long as it's fun that doesn't put her or her rider in danger. Where is the fun in getting hurt or getting in trouble? Uluth is content with a bit of playing in the sea and aerial races with the firelizards to keep her occupied. Her favorite pastime among those willing to be entertained is a friendly game of Spot (I Spy).

However, with all of those reservations and that seemingly held-back nature, it is a surprise to find that this dragon is a bundle of energy and she can go. At work, at play, in Flights, Uluth has enough speed and energy to out-fly pretty much any competition be it race or Threadfighting maneuvers. She's not in it to rub her talents in anyone's face. though. Uluth doesn't want to come out on top: she just wants to have fun.
