[CANDIDATE LESSON] The Rains Came Down (OPEN)

Candidate Valendyr
Hurrying back to business, Valendyr almost missed the sound of peeing and cheeping nearby. With his own three periodically chasing one another, or diving into the puddles and water nearby, it was easy to overlook the familiar sounds. But the peeping and cheeping noises were foreign--he knew each of his flits, and these didn't sound like them at all.

Glancing up, he did see a small fair further down. Glancing over at Danzik to see if she noticed, Valendyr decided to approach and see what all the excitement was about.

Alas, he didn't get too far at all when he heard the summons from Eosphoth. It was always strange to hear the voice of another's dragon, and Valendyr knew he was in no position to argue. Though his curiosity was piqued, he crinkled his nose and went back to cleaning the beach.

Maybe one of his fair could scope it out for him later.

Small bundle under his arm, Shoxiel's gaze is drawn a bit by movement out of the corner of his eye. Flits down the beach, he guesses, even before Keeper peeked her head out from the back of his hood, blinking sleepily. He'd gathered some, perhaps taking a peek wouldn't hurt?

It's only a few steps before he watches the small faire as it's attacking and making quite a banquet of the fish on the beach. Shoxiel huffs a bit of an amused laugh as Keeper streaked out from the safety and warmth of his coat, watching for a brief moment as she found a fish herself to chow down on. Oh well, time to get back to it.

While some had taken to cleaning the beaches, Rahimar was more than happy to help build a barricade. The rain and wet didn't bother him, and he figured he'd much rather put his physical prowess to good use. If any of his fellow Candidates happened to get a good look--all the better for him!

Unfortunately, he had only just begun when he was hit by pure, unadulterated inspiration. He knew exactly what he needed to make his barricade the best thing since bubbly pie... but the pieces simply weren't available to him.

Well, he wasn't just going to sit around and make something subpar. He was a doer and he was going to find himself exactly what he needed on the beach.

The beach looked relatively clean--good on his fellow Candidates. They weren't slackers, and neither was he. He wasn't going to rest until he found the most glorious piece of driftwood for his barricade. Unfortunately, Rahimar did find himself distracted by some stones and pebbles...

He did catch a handful of his peers picking them up and tossing them right back into the water. While he did think they were taking the concept of clearing the beach a little literally, he wasn't going to spoil their fun. In fact, he picked up a handful of pebbles himself, and threw them into the water--if only to see if he could toss them farther than they could.

Unfortunately, Danzik's stare did not go unnoticed. "Nice work, boys!" He half-purred at the small group of Candidates, grinning in his usual self-assured way. Maybe it would be best if he got back to finding that driftwood.

Oh, she was looking forward to being done. There was so much to do, but Dystzha couldn't quite help but imagine how nice a hot cup of tea and some warm, dry clothes sounded. But there was work to do! And work she shall! By Faranth, she was still trying to get used to not having her brother around to compete with for chores. Not that they should be competitive, but... It certainly made everything go by faster.

Her fingers clutched at a piece of driftwood, surprised a bit by how it was embedded into the sand. A tug, two -- and it still hadn't come free. Yet she gave it a fierce tug, and with the wet squelch of suction from the sand, it was pulled free with a triumphant sound. Ha! It was hers!

Oh, but the unmistakable chirps and peeps of firelizards instantly drew Dystzha's attention away from her victory. Oh, she was supposed to be helping, but perhaps if she stole a peek, no one would mind...?

Oh, but the unmistakable chirps and peeps of firelizards instantly drew Dystzha's attention away from her victory. Oh, she was supposed to be helping, but perhaps if she stole a peek, no one would mind...?

Eosphoth's voice had Dystzha jumping, having been caught. She wasn't one to disobey, never. But she stole a last glance at the distant forms of firelizards soaring in the air, before making her way back-- and quickly.

All in a hard days work.

Giving a large stretch, the dark haired man yawned before taking a look over the beach. It did look clearer than it hand been--though he still hadn't found his most perfect-piece-of-debris. Well, he'd get to that soon enough. Haraven and Dystzha had found some hefty pieces of driftwood that looked promising--but for now, he'd take a few minutes for himself.

There was still much to be done, after all.

There was so many pebbles on the beach. Small, and some as big as her palm. Dystzha gathered up a good handful before taking them closer to the edge of the shore and tossing one in.

... Oh.
That got some good distance.

Taking the next one in hand, she bounced it before giving it a toss in, and was delighted when it not only went further, but bounced as well.

Though she only got a few tossed into the water before the feeling of eyes watching her had her turning, wincing as she was caught by Danzik, and tossed the last rocks she had into the surf before scurrying back up the beach. Caught twice, and so shortly between. Oof.

After all the storms hammering at their shores, beach had been sent into absolute disarray--Ciraine could hardly believe the sheer level of it, even standing in the sand as she was. She'd merely paused for a moment, turning out to face the ocean once she'd finished her current barricade, and the sight of the waves still pounding away gave her an uncomfortable twinge in the pit of her stomach. It was better that she wasn't the only one out here, really. There was just something so daunting about an angry sea, and she didn't enjoy lingering on it for long. If she worked fast enough, Ciraine wondered if she could perhaps put a little distance between herself and it--she was glad she'd figured out an easier trick a little earlier, carefully twining branches between the stones in a way that was almost reminiscent of her previous work.
Humming softly to herself in an effort to calm her nerves, the weaver went back to sorting out the next barricade.

She'd almost stomped on this particular hard lump in the sand by accident, thrown a little off-balance by the wind; for a half-second, Ciraine was terrified that she'd hear a crunch or something, given how many flits she'd seen about the area. If she'd stepped on an egg, she'd never forgive herself--
A few hesitant nudges with the toe of her boot later, Ciraine could only breathe a sigh of relief as nothing more than a sea-tumbled stone came to light. She bent down to pick it up, laughing a little at the situation. This would be placed in the next barricade--somewhere that someone else couldn't step on it, either.

She kept digging down into the beach, pouring pile after pile of sand into their new homes--hopefully, with all these sandbags ready to go, they might avoid a second round of the flooding that had been plaguing the weyr. Ciraine grimaced at the scraping sensation of sand under her palms, but it hardly was enough to stop her. She was sure that she'd be a little tender tomorrow, given the impromptu overzealous exfoliation, but that was something she could worry about later.
