Arcadia moved woodenly through the trees, slumping with exhaustion and sadness. She hated losing a patient, regardless of who needed her help or how much she may have disapproved of their choices, it was her role to bring comfort, to mend what had been broken. Had she been at home with her sisters she may have succeeded in healing that stallion, but it would have taken many days and nights to know whether infection had poisoned his blood through the ruptured artery and spread, she would have needed poultices, boiling water, herbs, and many helping to even begin to have hope. But home was at least a full days journey away and the stallion would have passed long before they could reach help. The herbs would take his pain, she could do that for him at least.

Arcadia sighed in relief as she reached the river, she stepped in gingerly, it was still icy cold with meltwater, but she would deal with anything to wash the smell of blood, sweat, and other filth from her body. Niva and Gymn slid into the water beside her, their small forms huddling against hers for warmth, she smiled down at them fondly, the two of them were nearly asleep on their feet as well. She shifted so her body dispersed the worst of the current. Taking a huge breath she dunked her head under the water, yelping as she emerged in a rush, crystalline drops flying through the air in all directions as she tossed her hair back.
