Leila blushed and fidgeted, not wanting to meet his gaze. "Erm...well..." She really didn't know what would count as an appropriate relationship in Nicholas's father's eyes, and she was afraid he'd make Nicholas send her away if she told him the truth.

"Tell me about your relationship with my son. I don't mean to sound threatening, but it's my son we're talking about." He said, sighing and looking at her with a much softer face. "I just want to know if Nicholas is happy." He said.

"Of course he's happy! I wouldn't do anything to make him otherwise! Kharah! I got shot for him! I'd do anything for that boy!" Almost immediately, Leila flushed red and looked at the floor. "I-I'm sorry, Master Alexander. I didn't mean to yell at you, sir."

"No no. Don't apologize. I see that you are truly infatuated with my son. Thank you for making him happy. I hope that you aren't doing anything with him that's too... how should a say.. extreme. He hasn't touched your breasts or anything? Right?" He asked, trying not to sound too awkward. "Pardon how awkward that sounds, I just don't think he's ready for that stuff yet. I hope you'll be able to tell when he is." He said, sighing.

Leila shook her head. "No, we haven't gone to that extreme."
(Heh. And here I thought you might end up going after the "shot" part of my little outburst. lol.)

(He's ears haven't caught up to that part yet xd )
"Alright good." There was silence for a bit before Nick's father opened up with an outburst. "Wait! Shot?! What happened?!? Why was Nick a target?!?" He was pretty ecstatic about it.

"Kharah. I shouldn't have said that," Leila muttered. "We were in the park about a month ago, about to head home, when I heard something and got in the way of a sniper's bullet. I don't know the reasoning behind it, Master Alexander. Nicholas figures it may have been someone hired by a rival of yours."

"Rival? But none of my rivals would stoop so low as to shoot my own son! I know some of them! We go golfing together when we have off days!" He exclaimed, unsure why any of his rivals would want to kill Nick. "Maybe they weren't after my son. Maybe they shot at him, to get at you..." He suggested, unsure of the true reason.

Leila barked out a derisive laugh. "Me? Not meaning to sound disrespectful, Master Alexander, but who'd want to target a lowly slave? Even if they knew of my nationality, it's not like a girl who's been a slave since she was ten would be a spy or any threat to anyone." Her expression turned dead serious. "Besides, if they were aiming for me, the bullet wouldn't have only grazed my arm. It would've gone straight for my heart, not my master's."

"What if they shot at him on purpose? They could have known of your keen senses and the fact you would do anything to save Nicholas. It could be someone in your past that has come back for a revenge of some sorts." He then said, just making another suggestion.
(Merry Christmas!)

That thought made Leila hesitate. "I--I don't think so. Wouldn't they go after my old master if that was the case? I'd only been here for a couple weeks when it happened. How would they know my feelings for Nicholas then? I didn't even know at that point."

"What if it was your old master? What if he wanted you to suffer even more?" The suggestion kept piling up as his father kept on asking questions.

Leila was working hard to control her voice as her temper grew hotter with each new question. "Why? He had no more use for me. That's why he sold me to that center where you bought me. What use would it be for him if I suffered more?"

"I don't know. I just don't want to believe that any of my rivals would stoop to so low as to just kill my son just to get to me." He said, still not believing that at all. Nicholas than walked in, rubbing sleep out of his eye. He looked at the two, hearing them bicker about something. "Um... hey. What are you talking about?" He asked, still tired. His father looked to him and just shook his head. "Nothing. Nothing at all. I just wanted to know the relationship between you two and how close you two were." This made Nick's eyes pop. "Wait, you knew?!" His father nodded. "Just found out. Please don't be reckless with this relationship. It's nice that your with a woman like Leila, but, don't go too far too fast..." He said, making Nick blush. His father than left to go to work, Nick walking up to Leila. "Hey, how much did you tell him? I'm glad he knows now but I just don't want his to find out about your.... secret..." He whispered to her.

Leila shook her head. "No, he doesn't know that. He knows how I feel about you...and about the sniper incident."
