"Hello, Tristen! I saw your name on the sheet, I'm super excited to see you battle!" Ms. Dendra said with a smile as she checked Tristen off her attendance list. "Give it your all out there!"

"Please insert your Pokeballs here to register your team of three." The other staff member said as he slid over a six slot rectangular device across the table. It looked like a much smaller Pokemon healing machine but apparently was intended for extracting information about the Pokemon inside the balls, thus registering them and while it had six slots only three were needed.

Once Tristen's Pokemon were registered he would be informed to join the group of trainers competing. B would join him while E went off to the stands to watch, wishing both his brother and Tristen good luck. As Tristen made it to the group on the side of the field he'd notice it was actually split up into two groups, one for Uva House and one for Naranja House. Once the two hybrids made it to the groups B would give Tristen a quick hug, wish him luck, and run over to the Naranja side and up to a very familiar face, Matteo.

The Growlithe hybrid locked eyes with Tristen and stared at him for awhile, still scowling. While the boy seemed to still be in a foul mood and displeased with Tristen but if all goes well today this will be Tristen's chance to finally either squash this beef and/or put Matteo in his place.

"Hello students and staff and welcome to the quarterly Student Tournament! Today we are here to-" Director Clavell would take to the side of the field and give a whole speech before the beginning of the tournament, talking about how the academy raises such skilled trainers, the powerful bond between Pokemon and trainer, and so on. Once his several minutes long speech was over the two groups would be instructed to sit at separate groups of benches on this side of the field while they determined who would be battling who.

Their method was to assign each of the twenty students in a single group a color, Tristen receiving light blue, and then having a Tinkaton fish out colored Smoke Balls out of two baskets, one for Uva and one for Naranja. The Tinkaton would wack the Smoke Balls into the air where they would explode and reveal their color and those trainers of that assigned color would be taking to the field. A very dramatic way of determining match-ups.

Two pair ups and matches would happen before Tristen's light blue colored Smoke Ball would fly into the sky and burst open, creating a smoke cloud that almost blended into the sky. Next came the Uva Smoke Ball, that one bright yellow. As Tristen took to the field his opponent did too, a human trainer dressed in 'punk' fashion with their purple colored long hair covering almost their entire face. Once they took to the field they would take out some sort of vape pen, take a drag off of it, and let out a loud sigh. "...sup." They simply said to Tristen as they took out a Pokeball and tossing it out on to the field, the device popping open to release a Gastly.

"Indie of Levincia vs Tristen of Mahogany Town! Single battle with three Pokemon each! First trainer without usable Pokemon loses! Now kids I want you both to have a nice clean battle and respect your Pokemon! Now then...let the battle...begin!" Ms. Dendra declared, standing on the side of the field, acting as the battle's referee.

"I guess we'll start off with a...*cough*...a Haze." Indie ordered his Gastly, the Gas Pokemon letting out a ghostly laugh as the gas around its body expanded outward around it and became darker and darker until a black cloud of Haze hung around that half of the battlefield, the Gastly somewhere inside.

Tristen submitted his three Pokéballs into the device as instructed and allowed his team to register. While Matteo wouldn’t be able to see what was registered, he wondered if what he did was going to raise a couple of eyebrows with the teachers considering at the very least two of his Pokémon are. He is following the rules to the letter, just as he was instructed, but maybe it was going to make teachers check some off-beaten bylaws that never had been of any issue. Tristen hoped that wasn’t the case. Once his registration was done, he made his way off away from the table, making his way towards the Uva house group, but not before getting another hug out of the mouse twins for luck. Tristen could crack a smile at the two. But as he watched B and E made their way off, he then took notice to Matteo, once again giving him the stink-eye. Tristen lightly sighed then just went to take his seat.

He would pay attention to the presentation, listening to Clavell, going what Tristen presumed the usual formal speech in a event such as this, encouraging all trainers and so on. But then the important part, the match ups. The earlier that he faced Matteo, the better. In fact, he was hoping that he faced him right away. Unfortunately, the odds weren’t in his favor. He ended up with another opponent. Tristen made his way off to the battlefield to face off with the opponent. At all costs, Tristen didn’t want to send Dragonite out. That was his effective trump card. But the other Pokémon was left up in the air. One of them he wanted to send against Matteo and completely sweep him, the Pokémon he’d assume he'd underestimate. The other one, however, probably wasn’t going to give that kind of illusion. In fact, it'd probably break his cover. Maybe this could be played another way…

“Rampardos! Go!” He called out, tossing the Pokéball out upon the field. He tossed the ball out on the field and out came the large ancient Pokémon before everyone in the school to see. If the students didn’t know what this thing was, if nothing else, it was probably going to make Mr. Jacq adjust his large glasses if he was here paying any attention.

“BAAWAA!” Rampardos roared out upon appearing upon the battlefield. With the Gastly appearing on the battlefield, Rampardos screamed at the floating gas Pokémon then proceeded to pound his head on the field, psyching itself up and maybe to intimidate. It was a bit ritualistic of this particular Pokémon of Tristen’s, probably something that carried over into the modern area from prehistoric times.

Tristen hadn’t brought Rampardos into a setting like this before; the closest he has was the battle that he had with Aden a while back ago. Rampardos was a rather strong contender that had a wider array of moves than what he originally gave the prehistoric Pokémon credit for. He was even capable of the elemental punches…well…for what they were, anyways. Rampardos always likes to use his head. Fire Punch? More like flaming headbutt. Brick Brick? Another whack with the noggin. Rock Slide? Make rubble with whatever he could with his head then throw. Zen Headbutt? Goes without saying at this point. It was rather funny, honestly. What was going to make it difficult for this Gastly was that Rampardos was more energized than he normally is. Around the Rampardos’s neck, a collar with a rather specific gem. Tristen learned that usually this hold item was a usually a bit of a double-edged sword because while it empowered effectively everything a Pokémon could do, it came at the expense of a Pokémon’s stamina. It was meant to bring quick ends to battles. The trinket was known only as a Life Orb. The big trick, however, Rampardos had nothing but Sheer Force behind it, rendering any draw back the Life Orb had, allowing even more reckless endeavors out of the Rampardos.

As the Gastly fades into the haze it produced, Rampardos ran into the haze and quickly looked around, confused as to where the ghost Pokémon ran off to. “Rampardos, just hang on!” Tristen shouted. “Focus Energy!” The dino would stomp in place and roar out, focusing his power. He was getting pumped and ready to lay all manner of hurt.

Rampardos' appearance would illicit surprise and a bit of murmuring from both houses, students whispering to each other, Tristen picking up a few comments such as where did he get such a rare Pokemon from? How did he tame such an aggressive dinosaur? What was that orb on its collar? Was Tristen from Sinnoh? And such things like that. Matteo however continued to scowl, perhaps even harder as he just stared with his eyes folded tight. His choice of Pokemon was definitely noticed by all.

His opponent however didn't have much of a reaction, Indie taking another drag from their vape and messing with their hair before finally commenting and then giving his Pokemon further instructions. "...looks mean...Gastly, give it a Toxic loogie." The vape sucker commanded.

A ghoulish laugh would echo throughout the darkness of the Haze, the spirit dancing around in the darkness somewhere, lining up the perfect shot at Rampardos. Once satisfied the bag of sentient gas would collect a wade of poisonous saliva in its mouth before taking its big tongue and flicking the Toxic loogie right at the Rampardos, aiming at the center mass of its body. If the loogie made contact with the dinosaur its toxins would quickly seep into the living fossil's body and rapidly make its way into the bloodstream and poison Rampardos very badly. Gastly will have essentially put an expiration date on Rampardos in this battle. What it lacked in general power, especially compared to its evolved foe, it would make up for it with trickery and indirect damage.

Tristen couldn’t help but to overhear the crowd; apparently, they were at least a bit more in the know about Pokémon after all. Fela gave him the wrong idea, considering that she didn’t even know what Wimpod nor Dragonite actually were. It was not what he expected out of them at all. At this point, he might as well try to lean into it and see if he couldn’t sweep this guy instead and keep his other two Pokémon hidden from the likes of the other students, let alone Matteo. At least until he can get Matteo dealt with.

Hearing the toxic call, Tristen knew that if Rampardos gets caught up in that, this was going to make Tristen’s plans shift rather badly. He needed to keep as many proverbial cards to himself. Tempting as it was to have Rampardos quake the field and end this, Tristen very well knew how a Gastly could levitate, rendering such a trick useless. It wasn’t of course going to be that easy. Going into the haze and go swinging around blindly wasn’t going to help much either. Tristen took notice to the Gastly in the mist, with Rampardos’s back turned as the dinosaur Pokémon was frantically pumping itself up and trying to find that sentient gas cloud.

“Rampardos! Behind you! Move!” Tristen shouted.

“BA!?” Rampardos stumbled off to the side to avert the venomous loogie, though being the burly dinosaur he was, he wasn’t nimble like a lot of his Pokémon. Going on a counter attack like that was going to be slow, but Tristen had to try. “Rampardos! Rock Slide!” If nothing else, Tristen was going to try to flush the Gastly out of the haze somehow.

“BA-WA!!” The ancient Pokémon smashed down into the ground and started to fling all manner of rubble into the haze. Even getting caught by a single rock was going to lay a hurt with his natural assault power on top of the power the Life Orb was giving him. Frankly though, if Rampardos could get the Gastly to position wrong, that was all Tristen could ask for.

The rocks would go flying into and out of the black Haze, the spirit lingering inside panicking as the chunks of Earth whizzed by, barely missing it numerous times. The Gastly did its best to try and avoid the Rock Slide all together, and in fact managed to evade almost every rock, but alas one very fast moving softball sized rock managed to peg the Gastly square in the forehead and sent it flying out of the Haze. The ghost would hit the ground on the side of its trainer, knocked out cold from that one rock moving at the speed of a bullet. There was no way the frail ghost was going to be able to stand up to a Rock move used by a Sheer Force Rampardos holding a Life Orb. The Haze disappeared.

"Wow! What a devastating blow! Oh! Ahem...Gastly is unable to battle! Please recall and send out your next Pokemon!" Ms. Dendra shouted, getting a little too excited about the battle herself, instructing Indie to switch Pokemon. The Uva group would cheer for Tristen while the Naranja murmured to each other about how powerful that Rock Slide was, one person commenting they were surprised Gastly didn't just disintegrate from impact. While Matteo continued to scowl Nemona leaned a little more forward in her seat. This was already getting interesting.

"...harsh." Was all Indie could say as they recalled their Pokemon, stowing away its ball and taking out another, tossing it onto the field without a word. The ball would bounce off the ground once before popping open to release in a flash of light a Stunky, the Stunk Pokemon letting out a defiant cry as it appeared. "...I'm not winning..." Indie said before taking a drag of their vape. "...Venoshock." The trainer ordered before proceeding to cough.

"Stunky!" Cried the Poison Pokemon as it turned around quickly, pointing its behind at Rampardos and then lifted its tail before spraying a liquid-y poison at the dinosaur Pokemon. The liquid would immediately sting and burn, inflicting some damage, however the real pain came about three or four seconds later as it began to seep into its body and agitate the Toxic poisons already inside Rampardos, the toxins mixing together and becoming amplified inflicting Rampardos with even greater damage and pain.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2024 3:23 pm
Tristen sighed in a little relief when even a bit of the attack managed to land its mark and take out the Gastly. That being said, Rampardos was on the clock. With the poison quickly sapping out his otherwise abundant strength, Tristen had to get Rampardos to hurry and also hope that this guy, who is oddly relaxed for this situation, doesn’t have too much going in the way of putting Rampardos out quicker.

Tristen could overhear the various chatter of the crowd. He wasn’t trying to pay them much attention, not bothering at looking back at them. He was trying to stay focused, but he can almost imagine a lot of insanity. Some probably wondering their chances now in this tournament for instance. If Nemona was already the one nigh impossible to beat, now they have Tristen to worry about? Truthfully, that wasn’t the Manetric hybrid’s intention to throw his proverbial weight around in such a fashion. He was expecting a lot fiercer competition than this, especially if Nemona was the one to beat. He didn’t imagine that people would try to send the kid gloves against her, only the other way around. Then again, maybe it was all they had. Not all of them, he imagined, took part of the Victory Road course, similarly to how Tristen is. If that were the case, then he really did have one severe leg up on everyone. He felt kind of bad about the whole situation. Though Matteo, who he is imagining is trying to stare into Tristen’s very soul, still is going to deserve what was coming. He just needed to make sure that he doesn’t give Matteo any hint about what was to come in the meantime.

With the Gastly recalled, a new Pokémon out. A Stunky. Not too terrible relatively speaking. He knew what that was too, fortunately. The Stunky fired off the Venoshock and while it didn’t do that much damage, externally or internally, it still was more than what Rampardos cared for, wincing hard from the harsh burn that seeped in its rock-type skin. “Rampardos! Bulldoze!” It was a command that Rampardos was glad to do. Rampardos slammed his head down into the ground once more, and as comical as it might have looked, the attack wasn’t going to be as such to the Stunky. A harsh and fast moving shockwave rushed out from Rampardos and the terrain started to either fly upwards or completely crumble just quickly behind it, threatening the new Pokémon on the field.

Much to the surprise of the crowd, but not the trainer, history would repeat itself. The Stunky did what it could against the Rampardos but alas it wasn't enough to make it rear back let alone leave an immediate lasting impact. Rampardos would be unimpeded to slam its head into the ground and send the Bulldoze generated shockwave straight for the Poison type. The little skunk could do nothing but look on in horror for seconds as the shifting ground came straight for it.

The Bulldoze would send the tiny Pokemon off the ground, tumbling in the air already covered in dirt. Stunky would hit the ground with a thud as it landed in some of the upturned Earth, its eyes turned to spirals, the Skunk Pokemon knocked out cold but a single move, just like its ally Gastly before it.

"Oh wow...again...um, Stunky is unable to battle! Please recall and second out your next Pokemon!" Ms. Dendra said, staring in shock for a few seconds after Stunky was dispatched with ease. The crowd of course had some things to say about it, a lot of surprise, comments on how many badges he must have and so on but there was a few mentions on whether or not Indie was even taking this seriously, a little bit of disappointment now directed at him from Naranja House. Nemona was now completely enthralled if Tristen were to look back and spot her. Matteo though hasn't budged.

"...it's almost over..." Indie said taking a drag of their vape again before recalling their Pokemon. "...my last one. A little stronger..." They commented before tossing his last ball onto the field, the ball bursting open to reveal a Pokemon that should be unfamiliar to Tristen. Shaped like a small car, with four wheels, hood exhaust pipes and two tail pipes, a single eyed Pokemon would appear. "Revaaa!" Cried the Pokemon as what was apparently its mouth on top of its head wiggled around before a tongue lashed out and flailed around wildly in a display of resolve. It was certainly a bizarre looking Pokemon to behold.

"...Magnet Rise..." Its trainer ordered, taking another drag. The Revavroom would respond to the command by creating a sound like an engine revving and would violently spin its wheels in place, kicking up dirt and dust, a small plum of smoke emitting from its 'exhaust'. As the wheels spun faster and faster electricity would crackle from the wheels and then all at once Revavroom would rise up several feet in the air, its wheels never ceasing to spin once it was airborne. Not only was this some sort of car Pokemon but now it was flying hovering. Where is our flying car?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2024 6:58 pm
Another one down in short order. Perfect. Hopefully things will stay according to plan, Tristen thought. Overhearing the crowd, he was apparently putting on a show; everyone stunned about the ferocity of him and his Rampardos. Tristen still stayed focused all the same. Tristen also started to realize something else…this guy was favoring Poison types. Gastly, the Stunky…there was probably another one coming out as soon as Stunky gets recalled. Perhaps he could just have Rampardos Bulldoze that just as he did the Stunky? That would make things rather simple and bring this battle to a close.

“Rampardos, are you still good?”

“Ba-wa!” It shrieked out. It was fine, but he was starting to hurt. The Toxic was doing its vile work, just as intended. Tristen needed to bring this fight to a close sooner than later, for certain. But then, a problem…

With the third Pokémon out, Tristen was found at a loss. He didn’t know what this thing was. Presumably it was a Poison type, but that is about all he could figure about it. Tristen was a little at a loss as to what to do. He studied the Pokémon, thoughts going through warp speed. It had a shiny body, and it looked like an engine out of a car. Though the Magnet Rise call made his stare at it with a little confusion. Was it an Electric type too? Some Steel types also have that move, like the whole Klink line. Either way, regardless, he couldn’t have Rampardos Bulldoze attack this thing now. How sturdy was it for that matter even if he could? This guy claimed that this Pokémon is ‘a little stronger’, was he being modest or was this a bluff? At this point, Tristen had to just call an attack and see what works best and hopefully bring this thing down before the poison takes Rampardos out. Hopefully regardless of what he uses, hopefully Rampardos can pierce whatever defenses this Revaroom had, still being pumped up as he is from the earlier Focus Energy.

If this thing is in fact an electric type, then Rampardos’ rock attacks should still prove relatively effective. Same with Ramparos’ Zen Headbutt. If it was a Steel type, then while Zen Headbutt should still hurt, it wouldn’t be as good. Though Rampardos’ other attacks, like Brick Break should still work as well. Fire Punch would also be extremely potent in this situation, but Tristen had to admit it was a gamble given what he can tell right now. Tristen had to play it safe for the second. “Rampardos! Zen Headbutt!” he shouted.

“BA-WAA!” The Rampardos shouted, storming off towards the unknown Pokémon. Head reared down and a potent psychic power starting to form on Rampardos’ dome.

Classes so far had been decent for Amaranth, if a lot to take in at once. Breaking off for a lunch period gave her a chance to relax for a little bit, and think about who she'd use the Round TM on from earlier. She kept to herself despite the other students, both for a bit of peace in the moment with the sandwich she was eating and to process things. She'd look around sometimes alongside occasional searching on her SNAG, in an effort to get a little studying in.

"Didn't think it'd be like this..." She said under her breath, starting to realize the academic route would have its own challenges.

---

(Elsewhere, days later...)

Over in the crowd, Tristen might notice at least one familiar voice after a while, their cheers adding to the others alongside their remarks.

"Let's go, Tristen! Keep it going!"

Though he hoped not to distract Tristen from the battle, Aden had managed to get himself into the crowd, catching wind of the tournament shortly after making a return to the academy. A chance to rest and restock before tackling another gym with Reno and Crystal, and maybe get some classes in himself alongside. And cheer a friend on.

Clare found themself in the cafeteria, debating how classes had been going so far. The classes themselves weren't too hard, the teachers all rather competent in their respective fields as far as they could tell and quite skilled at communicating the lessons to their students. However, the topic always surfaced when meeting other students "what kind of hybrid are you?" and that was bothering them. They'd heard from a student in their math class earlier about something called a "Glimmet", apparently a local Pokemon species that was both Rock and Poison-type and had a crystallin body. Perhaps that was what they were? They had gone downstairs to the library before lunch and were alternating with their one hand at the moment between taking bites of a a sandwich of some sort(they hadn't really paid any attention to what was one it but it tasted good so they didn't really care) and flipping through the pages of a hardcover Pokemon Encyclopedia the school had on hand for those students without access to the PokeDex app. Somewhere in here, there had to be information on that Pokemon and they were determined to find it before their next class.

[If first die result is between 1-20 then Revavroom flinches. If second die result is between 21-33 then Revavroom takes a critical hit.]

The floating car engine with get headbutt by the prehistoric Pokemon, a burst of Psychic energy coming along with the skull bashing, sending the Revavroom tumbling in the air backwards a ways before it corrected itself while never once losing its airborne status. While the move certainly dealt some damage it would appear to be nothing too extreme, definitely wasn't Super Effective but the Pokemon also didn't resist it, Psychic likely neutral to its typing. That said Revavroom didn't appear strange, its tongue stuck out and frozen in place as it began to make sputtering noises, Indie instantly recognizing what was happening.

"...you made it flinch..." They commented with a sigh and then took a long drag of his vape. The odds just weren't in this trainer's favor, at all. "...Revavroom do...something...doesn't matter..." Revavroom could not move, of course.

"It flinched!" Nemona shouted as she jumped to her feet, instantly recognizing what happened herself, her excitement over the battle reaching critical levels as she could no longer contain herself. Some of the other students, and Ms. Dendra, just turned to look at Nemona, the adult of the group giving her a look that told her to sit down which she immediately would. "...sorry, ha ha..." She laughed nervously as she sat down.

Matteo on the other handed snarled to himself a bit, his lip quivering. He was not happy about this at all.

As the Rampardos skidded to a stop after ramming into the floating engine, Tristen started to realize the pressure was on…or…at least it was supposed to be. He noticed the trainer at the other side still not really giving any manner of care to the battle, more concerned perhaps to his vape than his Pokémon. Probably more so now that he was dealing with a Pokémon that he couldn’t contend with. Tristen just wanted to try to get this over with now, more so than ever given the poison that Rampardos was contending with. Tristen noticed the attack didn’t cause the kind of damage if this Revaroom was perhaps an Electric type. The Zen Headbutt attack would have had a much greater impact. Tristen decided to take the chance…

“Rampardos! Bring it down! Fire Punch!” He then shouted.

“BA-WAA!” The Rampardos scraped his head along the ground then started to run. In a way, it was almost as if Rampardos was treating his head as a match. His dome then ignites and the dino Pokémon runs full speed towards the Revaroom, poised to bring down his opponent.

Requiem of Whyspers

Amaranth and Clare would both be enjoying their lunch after two periods of class, the school day half over at this point. While the menu was largely limited to sandwiches and chips there was a wide variety of fillings and flavors to choose from. The entire lunch experience made one thing clear for them both and that is that Paldeans absolutely love sandwiches.

As Amaranth enjoyed her meal a student sitting next to her would lean towards her and try and sneak a peak at her SNAG, or at least what she was doing on it. When the student noticed that Amaranth had become aware of their peaking they pulled back and flashed her a smile. "Sorry...I've just never seen a Rotom phone like that...is it one, isn't it?" They asked her, taking a second glance at the SNAG. "I'm being rude, I didn't even introduce myself! I'm Miranda, or Mimi as my friends call me. Nice to meet you." The young woman said with a smile, extending a hand to Amaranth. She looked to be about sixteen with sun kissed long brown hair and amber eyes. Her tanned complexion indicated that she spent a lot of time outside. "You're new here, right? You're not from Paldea, are you?" She asked.

Clare would also have some company as a young boy would come up to the side of her and set their tray down on the table to her right. "Mind if I sit here?" The boy asked as he sat down, not really waiting for an answer. As he sat down he propped up on the side of the table a long bug net that he had been carrying on his back. "I'm Camp! Bug Catcher extraordinaire!" He said, smiling and almost forcefully shaking Clare's hand. The kid looked to be either twelve or thirteen, a young teenager. In spite of his youth he was apparently very sociable, unafraid to just go up to strangers. "You're the new girl I heard about, right? You're also very pretty!" Camp complimented her. "What's your name? Where are you from? Is everyone so pretty there?" He laughed.

Seeing their Revavroom move its tongue around Indie realized their Pokemon was no longer flinching from the Zen Headbutt and would now be able to carry out a command if given. While they knew it was certain they weren't winning this, never were going to evidently, Indie decided to at they very least try and take this Rampardos down and show off some of his prized Pokemon's strengths, if nothing else. "...okay, try Iron Head..." Indie instructed, this time not sucking on the vape for a moment.

With a cry Revavroom's wheels would spin violently before it launched itself directly at the charging Rampardos, intending to meet the dinosaur in a head on collision as it withdrew its tongue and the 'mouth' on its head began to give off a bright silver glow. The two would collide together in a fierce explosion of flames and silvery light, a mild shockwave resulting from the impact which swept the entire field including the trainers, blowing their hair back. When hit however a sort of thin coating of energy briefly flickered into existence around the Revavroom's body, its Filter ability triggering and mitigating some of the damage from that Super Effective fire move.

While the move would not do enough damage to knock it out the airborne Revavroom would be sent flying backwards away from the resulting explosion, the car engine of a Pokemon tumbling in the air a bit before righting itself. Now that it was right side up again and floating in place the Revavroom made sounds like a car that was about to run out of gas, black smoke erratically puffing out of its exhaust pipes. While it was still in the battle it wasn't going to be able to withstand much more. "...running out of gas...it happens..."

The crowd however loved this display of power, plenty of cheers heard, comments about how strong both Pokemon were and surprise that Indie actually had some strength on his team. Nemona was loving this and while Tristen almost certainly had this in the bag she really wanted to see Rampardos go down so that she might see what else Tristen had to work with.

Much to Tristen’s chagrin, Nemona was about to get her wish. When the attacks collided, showing off one heck of a spectacle of force, Rampardos recoiled back from the attack, the Iron Head not kosher to the likes of the Rock type Pokémon. Rampardos yelped out, a squeal compared to the gravely roars the dino had done up to this point. While on any other day, this probably wouldn’t have finished Rampardos off despite that, the big hang-up was the poison that Indie’s Gastly expelled earlier. Toxic was a rather vile attack, known to a lot of Poison type Pokémon. Even the mightiest Pokémon would eventually submit to the venom’s energy sapping properties. A toxin that the longer it lingers, the more the poison intensifies and cripples a Pokémon outright. Tristen was trying desperately to end the fight quickly so he wouldn’t have to show off any more and leave his plan to humble Matteo more of a surprise than anything. But after Rampardos stumbled back, tumbled on the ground a bit before coming to a stop, Rampardos was struggling to get up. Indie’s Pokémon managed to last long enough for the Toxic to compound with enough force, on top of the earlier Venoshock and now the Iron Head, to be enough to make even the hardy Rampardos now have an issue.

“Rampardos! Here, its fine! Don’t worry about it, buddy. Before anything else happens, come back now!” he shouted, taking out the ball and recalling the ancient Pokémon back to its Pokéball. Tristen felt a little confused just then, however. He was certain that the Fire Punch attack was going to be more than enough to bring that thing down with everything Rampardos had going for him. Tristen was suddenly reminded of his weakness in this tournament. He wasn’t going to know Pokémon that’s more native to Paldea. There was something about this Pokémon that was keeping it up for the moment and he didn’t know what. Worse, he was left to question just what to send out. Tristen didn’t want to send out Dragonite; he still wanted to try among all else to keep that as an ace in the proverbial hole. That only left the Pokémon Tristen decided to bring along specifically to go against Matteo. Tristen felt a little resigned, but it was going to have to be done just to at the very least end the fight in his favor.

“Go!” Tristen then shouted, tossing the ball out onto the battlefield. Once it landed, out before the crowd, something that was a far cry from the tall and mighty Rampardos, at least by looks. It was lanky looking. Slender. White and Violet fur and looked borderline effeminate. Fur that was long around its arms, so long in fact that it looked as if the Pokémon had the illusion of wearing a kimono or a karate gi that had too long of sleeves.

“Me-Shooooo.” The Pokémon spoke up upon appearing on the field.

Mienshao was Pokémon number 2 and Tristen’s thought of trying to humiliate Matteo. In the Manetric teen’s mind, Matteo had based the strength of a Pokémon based on its general looks. The bigger and fiercer looking it is, say maybe Rampardos for instance, or if Matteo’s reaction about the Lake of Rage or the Ice dragons he was told about by Matteo during Home Ec class that day, the stronger it supposedly is, where as Tristen very well knew that was far and away not true. The again, the thing that was bothering Tristen now wasn’t so much as if Matteo would underestimate this violet and potentially violent ball of power, but if they actually knew what Mienshao is. The student body apparently knew what Rampardos was, much to Tristen’s surprise, so it wouldn’t surprise him at this point maybe they knew about Mienshao as well. Not to mention, Tristen would assume at this point that as the students, let alone his opponent study his new Pokémon arrival, they would also note what was around this Fighting type Pokémon’s waist. Tristen didn’t really know so much what to give Mienshao for this battle. In truth, this Pokémon was perhaps the closest of receiving that ‘dreaded’ choice item that he was told about. Tristen ended up finding out that the Muscle Band was a catch all; while its boost in power was no where near as much as say that choice item, or even the Life Orb that Rampardos had, it was simple and didn’t have really any draw backs. And since Mienshao, like Rampardos before it, was a physical power house, the band would complement anything Mienshao would do, even its Reckless empowered attacks like his Jump Kick and Hi Jump Kick.

“Alright, Mienshao! Rampardos is down! We’re going to try to take it home!” Tristen then pointed towards the Revaroom. “Retaliate!”

“Shiioooo!” The Mienshao rushed forward, light on his feet, much faster compared to the burly Rampardos from before, practically speeding by the sentient engine. It was a literal case that even if you didn’t blink, you probably still missed it. Mienshao was behind the Revaroom, in mid pose, as if it had already attacked. “お前 和 網 死んでいる“

“Uh…what?” Tristen asked, tilting his head. Never heard that out of Mienshao before.
