Soft crunch of the snow was heard for each step she took. It was still snowing. Exhaled a breath that was caught by her almond eyes, she glanced up towards dark and cloudy sky as the flakes fell onto her face. Tilted her head back forward, she inspected at every street and walked by every buildings. Everything seemed to be okay. She started to get closer towards the south as she waited for the other two so called teammates of hers to arrive.

★ ▌Side by side, Hiro and Tsubaki walked together under a pleasantly clear night sky. The lanterns that lined the streets were lit in all their brilliance, illuminating the paths through the streets. Hiro listened, keeping a steady pace with Tsubaki. She was training to be one of the village few and proud all right. Illusions and earth-bending, and still wanting to keep up the traditions of the Yamanakas. He chortled. She was one of the few from the academy that really cared about their craft. Dedicated. From his peripherals, Hiro noticed Tsubaki turn toward him, pace quickening to see him. His eyes glanced over to see her, catching her lavender eyes reflecting a shimmering glow as they passed under a line. "Work's been steady. Had to deal with some brats this morning at a job. But I picked up a couple others. Earlier I was doing some moving for the new owner of the Flower Shoppe. He mentioned it went under after that one relative of yours went rogue. Ibara." He didn't mention much more of work. After all, clans tended to stick together. Hiro was smart enough not to speak ill of a person in front of family. It was the easiest way to make an enemy. Reaching the streets the Hokage slowly languored through the alleys to the main roadway headed to the gate. His eyes scanning around the buildings and people walking through the streets. Angry eyelids closed for a moment before reopening. She hates this. She hated everything. Ugh. Bitterly, she chewed on her gum. It seemed she cannot let go to what just happened. After few minutes, she scowled angrily and wonder if she should go find her teammate in the east or the west area. Why should she care? Turned around again, she almost bumped into Masahiro but it seemed he was already half asleep. Few more steps, he stopped and leaned against a wall. A blush developed at her cheeks as her hand went up to cover the lower part of her face and to keep her breaths warm so her lungs won't suffer as much. Flurries starts to build up on her hair as she was now curious to why he stopped. Well. She might as well make small talk. "Hokage-sama, you should get some rest. It's not the people we need to worry about but to make sure we are all rested. You speak of me about my anger. Fine. I'll try. But isn't deprivation of sleep dangerous as well?" She can only hope that he won't get mad for her minor disrespect. Won't matter. She's trying to get over her authority figure issues.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXTsubaki was captivated by the lanterns and light snow, but equally so by Hiro when they matched each other's gaze. She nodded as he spoke, though she seemed to freeze (even as she walked with him) when he mentioned Ibara. The genin had never met that relative, but blood runs deep. At least, to the rest of Konoha. That's not to say that Tsubaki felt some responsibility for her clanmate, and some shame in their going rogue. She reached for something to say about it all, maybe comment on all the good fortune in finding work, but her words escaped her.
Luckily, he asked another question. She smiled warmly again when he mentioned magic. She used to refer to chakra as magic, despite being told continually not to as a child. Still, ninjutsu had that affect on her. It was always borderline surreal to see someone so small create something so much bigger than all of them. "Us Yamanaka focus on the mind," she began, her voice taking on a tone of wonder even though her eyes appeared focused and present. "We study the inner workings of thoughts and memory, and have learned how to manipulate those aspects."
She bit her lip, fearing she sounded like some puppet or some ancient scroll. She relaxed the tension in her shoulders and re-worded her clan in a way that seemed more personal and less automatic. "We wanna understand people, y'know? That's why so many of us go into the ANBU... We want to understand the other villages and tie our minds together- not in a hive mind kind of way, but in unity so we can all get along better." The idea of the villages being connected and friendly was an old one, but Tsubaki couldn't help but hope it was possible.
"What about your family? I noticed jutsu and ninja training doesn't get passed down through your family." Anyone could know Hiro wasn't from a clan, but even small families can pass along small techniques or training. Tsubaki had always wondered what it was like to grow up in a place where ninjutsu wasn't a big influence.
"Hmm, no, I'm not really tired. Just, been doing a lot of thinking, beyond the normal running a village schtick." The Hokage quipped, his voice even as he looked to the young woman, so heavily bound in clothing that hid many of her wonderful features.
"So, did Takamatsu already chase you off? I know she's hard on students, but even like this, I wouldn't expect her to run someone off the first night, especially not a beautiful young woman like yourself." He said, his voice still even, though the insinuation of flirting was very obvious in his choice of words.
"I am actually getting ready to head out of the village for a while. I wouldn't be against having someone join me. Rather good company I like seeing, instead of a grumpy assistant or ANBU mask." The Hokage said with a smirk as he opened his eyes fully, the crimson wheels spiraling.

Ah. So he wasn't tired? Hozuki glanced away to watch the street and not paying hi mmuch attention, that was, until she heard his comment. Her cheeks immediately became warm and on the bright side, she wasn't as cold anymore. Confused crimson jewels goes to look at the Hokage as she glanced away for a moment. "I don't mind her. And no. She didn't chase us off, we are doing a mission. Patrolling the streets." So confused. What was he doing!? Why was he hitting on her!? What the heck!? She nodded when he mentioned he was heading out, that was norm of the kage but- wait. The very same ruby gems widen as she spun to look at him, taking a step back. He wanted to take her? A genin? A lowly genin? What... "I... I would be honored ... but.... me? I am a genin and unable to protect you." She frowned. Was this some kind of ploy? Did he want her family dead too or under watch and he was just acting this whole time? Her head was spinning. He's hitting on her and she does not know what the hell to do about it.

Masahiro thought to himself, bemused at her response. She had assumed that he needed her there for protection or for some other aspect of defense. His hand rose slightly and sparks jumped around his fingertips as he made his chakra materialize. The popping and hissing of raiton coursing through the air between them. His eyes scanned her face as she seemed to jump through a series of emotional hurdles. Catching the slightest hint of a furrowed brow and a frown. She worried about something, something concerning him, and potentially her own safety, outside of the trip. Mentally he kicked himself for making the student think any possibility of such was possible, but then he closed his hand into a fist and the sparks faded.
"No, Hozuki, you misunderstand me. I don't need protection, if I met a challenge I would summon one of the Wild Cats to our location. I would fight it off, tooth and nail, and we'd carry on. Petty bandits and weak shinobi trying to make a name for themselves are the least of our concerns." He sighed, his expression still neutral as he gazed into her eyes, his own crimson hues spinning the tomoe at their centers in a circular pattern as he thought it over.
"I just figured you would like to get out of the village for a while. I know you got shafted on team assignment when those boys were sent to join with Takamatsu. You were set with her for your protection, they were sent there for structure and hard work." He admitted, closing his eyes for a moment before patting her on the shoulder.
"We're leaving now, you coming with?"

Arriving in the streets, Klaus would arrive quite some time after the Hokage. 'He's fast.' Klaus would think to himself, approaching his leader, who was talking with Hozuki. By now Klaus had had enough time to hide his emotions once more, a stoic look painted across his face. "I'm not interrupting, am I?" Klaus exclaimed, pocketing his tool bag so as to not call attention to it.

Hozuki became very weary and cautious when his chakra started to materialize. It didn't last too long as the fist was closed and she heard his words. She misunderstood? And they were the least of their concerns? She slightly doubt that. Only a genin but she said nothing else. Yes the Hokage can take care of himself but Hozuki never realize what she was capable of, all those months spent hiding in the shadows and being the 'good' girl so she wouldn't be killed off like her brother.
Yet, he brought up a good point. To get away from the village for a bit. She liked that idea, a lot. A glare could be seen. It seemed that Hokage had gotten onto her nerves a bit. The boys were sent to Taka for structure and hard work. What about her? She wanted to be a damn good shinobi, damn it all! Protection. Protection. Slowly, she started to despite the word but she exhaled slowly, the breath not seen due to the warm scarf around her lower face to keep her arm. "Yes, I'll come but I haven't packed for this.. food, water, and the such." Heard a familiar voice, a boy approach them as she cringed slightly. She still felt guilty what she did earlier. She shook her head softly, some flurries fallen down to the snow.

★ ▌The snow began to fall around the pair walking in the street. Winter was no longer coming; it had came. But in the land of fire, in the Hidden Leaf, snowflakes tended to disappear on contact. It would be a cold and foggy morning tomorrow, but the clear sky with the light snow was pleasant in the moment.
Tsubaki's thoughts drifted as she talked about her clan. The mind. A terrible thing to waste, and a frightening thing to control. Yet as a Yamanaka, Tsubaki was born and bred to do just that. Becoming a ninja sealed her fate. Yes, there were great benefits to such a thing. Hiro could only imagine the prospects of taking such control. Most certainly if he had that ability, he would've controlled those brats all the way to the Hokage's office for them to make reparations this morning. Hell, he'd change a number of people around the village. Maybe it was a good thing he wasn't born a Yamanaka.
The more she talked, the less Tsubaki sounded like a textbook description. She really was passionate about the ideals of her clan. Hiro saw the magic as an ability to be corrupted. Tsubaki, though, had pure and genuine fascination. A zest, a yearning for the craft. Pure. Peaceful. A vague smile curled faintly at the corners of Hiro's lips. It was nice to hear somebody want the magic for good, rather than power. An odd thought came across his mind, and it made him chuckle.
"You're a lot more human than you act. It's why you're decent." A rare compliment. Perhaps backhanded in some ways, but very like Hiro himself in its honesty. Her optimism was a breath of fresh air. Not like the wide-eyed bushy-headed twerps pretending to be magicians without recognizing they'd be dogs of the military all the same. No, she knew, and yet Tsubaki had a dream of a perfect world through her ability. Hopeless optimist. Tsubaki then decided to flip the question back around to Hiro. She knew he had no skill passed down in the demon arts, yet somehow still made it through the Academy. It was a great difference between the Yamanaka and all other great and known clans of ninja, and the lowly masses that made up the quiet majority. Prestige versus oblivion.
"Nah, nothing like that in my blood, and even if it was, nobody left who knows anything. Mom left to go back to Iwa with my brothers after Pop had a heart attack a couple years ago at the old blacksmith shop. You know, the one before the Gauntlet came in. I guess there weren't any medics in the village or something, since nobody came to help him. Hell, we never even heard about the Jashin-damned thing until after dinner that night."
There was a hushed, terse pause that chilled the air between Tsubaki and Hiro's brow was furrowed firmly with vacant eyes staring at a spot twenty meters ahead of the pace. Finally, his voice formed the words, spitting them out in a dull monotone. "Nah...my family doesn't have talent."
"Well, fair enough. If you want to pack some materials, I can use the downtime to get some work finished. Go explain to Takamatsu that I'm taking you for a trip and then gather your supplies." The Hokage said before turning to address Klaus as he walked up, tilting his head to an angle as the man asked if he was interrupting.
"No, not at all. I am actually planning a trip to Kumogakure and was asking Hozuki if she would like to tag along. If you aren't busy you are more than free to do so yourself. Like I told Hozuki, free up any outstanding obligations you have and pack for the trip. Weapons, clothing, cleaning supplies. Dry good foodstuffs." The elder Hatake said as he looked into the eyes of the younger.
He noticed the boys eyes were even the same colour as Shin'ichi's had been. This was why he was mentally tired, he was too conflicted in what was going on with this boy and his own past, but perhaps getting out of the village for a while would clear his mind of it.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXTsubaki turned her head attentively as Hiro first responded, though her eyebrows lifted at his backhanded compliment. She gave a breathy laugh, visibly unsure on the right response. She decided to stay silent. Hiro continued on about his family to answer her question. She changed back into her typical stoic expression, but the mention of his father caused her to drop it.
She chewed on his words, carefully. She didn't want to sound like she pitied him, but she didn't want to come off insensitive. Breaking the silence, he made the grand conclusion: "Nah... my family doesn't have talent."
Instinctively, Tsubaki grabbed his hand and frowned at him. "I don't believe that," she said sternly. "Call me a head-in-the-clouds optimist if you will, but I don't think a single family here is without value, without talent." She furrowed her brows, but took a less accusatory expression. "You're important. Your family's important. Ninjutsu doesn't make the ninja-" She splayed her free hand against her chest, taking on an excited expression. "The Will of Fire does."
She paused for a second, then broke out laughing, removing her hand from Hiro's to cover her mouth. "Sorry, I know that sounded sappy. But I genuinely believe we are connected by that will, and it makes us all equally... equal." She bit her lip, thinking about the lame ending of her pep talk.

With a quick snatch of his hand, Tsubaki pulled Hiro's attention to her. He stopped his walk. His head shifted, looking down at her with a cockeyed stare. This was a side of Tsubaki departed from her typical airheadedness. Her words held bite, fighting with passion and confidence that normally wasn't depicted in her aloof nature. Hiro was forced to take the lecturing tone as she preached her optimistic approach according to the Book of Kohona. He was important. His family was important. That the special ninja voodoo magic wasn't what made the beautiful people of the ninja society special. If she left it at that, Hiro could have accepted it. But then, she finished it off...
The Will of Fire.
With a hand pressed to her heart, Tsubaki emphasizing a point that had become a cliche and a joke. Hiro pulled his hand away, fighting off her grip and snatched her by the wrist. With a firm grip, he stared into Tsubaki's lavender eyes. Three simple words were spoke with appall sneered across his face. "Don't patronize me." He let go of the girl's wrist, which she pulled back. Then came a soft laugh. Hiro turned his head back to face forward, shaking his head slightly. There's the airheadedness again, quick to be back to normal. She apologized, and continued on as Hiro began walking again. Her tone was back to her natural loose and lightheartedness.
Hiro snorted out. "Don't worry about it." He quickened his pace, taking the lead before turning the corner. At the end of the long stretch, a small stream of gray smoke escaped from the lone shop still open for the night. The lumber yard was in sight. "Come on, we're almost there." He kept the pace, just ahead of Tsubaki. Soon enough the pair were at the door to the Winding Crown. Hiro grabbed hold of the door, sliding it open and stood beside it, leaving the way for Tsubaki.
