"Is that so?" Cress said as he retained a friendly smile despite the serious turn the conversation took. "Well, that's more of a concern for the police then a trainer such as yourself or a gym leader such as myself," he said.

Cress closed his eyes and thought for a moment before he said, "I'm satisfied. That is all, Kijin, thank you." His eyes opened and settled upon Cress. "Please, have a nice day."

Henrietta only knew of one restaurant and she had taken up enough of Robby's time by getting ready. So, she pointed across the street to the Pokemon Gym. It served a double purpose, as well, as Cress had said he wanted to talk to her.

So, Henrietta lead Robby to the gym. Since it was across the street, no conversation was needed and the two would head inside.

"Table for two?" Genie asked the two as they entered and Henrietta nodded.

"Right this way!" she said as she grabbed two menus. The two would then make their way to said table, surprisingly, by the arena. Henrietta looked through the glass to see Kijin and Cress talking and she'd bury her face in her menu to hide herself.(though one has to wonder if it would be difficulty or hard to hide Burgundy hair, it wasn't exactly generic, was it?)

And there it was, the restaurant that Robby didn't know was a gym. There were probably signs that told him such, but the obese lad had instantly whited out, and was now moving in a trance to follow the girl who had agreed to buy him food. Which was just making his day that much better.

On the inside, the woman was a little bit too peppy. Like working here was the greatest thing in the world. Well, that had to be ridiculous. Unless, of course, free food was a part of the deal...

The chair that accepted Robby groaned, and he frowned. How long would it last under his weight? Bah. Thinking was for smart people. He wanted food. So he remained seated, ignoring the obvious signs of the chair's strain.

"What're ya hiding from?" He asked, noticing that Henrietta appeared to be covering her face in her menu.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 19, 2011 12:30 pm

"N-no one!" Henrietta said quickly and she quickly scanned the menu. She hadn't eaten since... How long?

The day before yesterday?

"H-hum..."

She put her focus on the menu and looked for something good. Pancakes and lemonade sounded good. Even after she figured out what she wanted she kept her menu up.

The high fences lining the Dreamyard would have deterred Salieri had it not been for the gaping hole that allowed safe passage into the ruins. The area was clearly some sort of important research facility at one point, but now-

"This place is useless," Salieri muttered to herself as she kicked a block of cement out of her way. She had defeated the trainers outside, and saw some wild pokemon in the longer sections of grass. But her exploration of the area was limited by all of the obstacles. Judging by the remains of stairs, she guessed that there used to be an underground portion of the lab. Now it was blocked by debris. "Even if I could get in there, this place is just a dump," Sal sighed, crossing her arms as she turned to leave from underneath the remains of the first floor roof, held up by slabs of the wall that survived whatever had happened.

"Come to think of it, just what happened here?" The Battle Girl turned her head back. The way that the ruins were laid out, with the center being cleared and all debris on the outside rim, made it look like the catastrophe came from inside.

"Child, would you care to hear about the Dreamyard?"

Salieri spun around into a fighting position, startled. She had thought she was alone, but now saw that there was an old lady sitting on top of a concrete stump. With a sigh, Sal lowered her fists. The old lady looked harmless. Actually, she looked an awful lot like the owner of Nuvema Town's grocery store. But that was always Salieri's go-to image whenever she thought "old lady".

"I don't really care about what happened in the past," Salieri told the lady with a shrug. "But if there's a good reason these ruins are still here, then yeah. I'll listen."

The old lady smiled softly, then looked out to the ruins. "The trainers that come here are often new trainers. People look at the sign saying Dreamyard and get intrigued because the name contains the word dream. New trainers should always have a dream to chase. They usually find out what they are looking for here."

Salieri raised an eyebrow and scoffed. Senile lady... "How can you find something you don't know you're looking for?"

“Sometimes, a journey is started without a set purpose. Many jump at the call to adventure without a meaning, just eager to live. But those exposed to their dreams can find what their hearts truly desire.” The old lady turned to Sal. “There are others who may have a dream already. But even then, they could still be confused. The world around us impacts our dreams just as our hearts do. They may not realize that what they want is not what they are after.”

“Well I’m not either of those.” Salieri jabbed her thumb to her chest and put her other hand onto her hip, a confident flash of determination crossing her face. “I’ve got a dream already, lady. I’m the type of girl who knows what I want. You can add that to your list too. Where does my type of person stand?”

The old lady perked up her head, her smile growing a little. Now she really looked like the grocery store owner. “That type of person has no need to dream. For them, their dream is just the path they walk. And that type of person does not have a purpose here. Which makes me curious, child, as to why you came to the Dreamyard.”

Salieri was taken aback by the old lady’s answer. The Battle Girl lowered her hands to her sides and pouted slightly “I have a dream. I’m gonna get my family’s gym back and be the best gym leader this world has ever known! I’m already on the path of my dream. These ruins are just a detour.”

“Interesting,” the old lady responded in mild amusement. “A girl who walks the path of a waking dreamer, yet came to a place of ruined dreams for answers.” Sal’s brow furrowed. “You say this place is useless to you, yet you linger anyway in hopes that it will help you. Perhaps the path you walk is leading you astray?”

“That’s…”

The spring breeze blew, but it didn’t drown out Salieri’s words, as the girl silenced naturally. She crossed her arms and walked away, ducking through the gap in the fence. “A load of crap.”

The old lady watched Salieri leave until the Battle Girl was completely out of sight. With a smile, her body and clothes began to turn pink, and her features began to fade away into the color. The Dream Mist changed from the image of an old woman from Salieri’s subconscious back into a vapor, that swirled away and disappeared in the cleansing spring breeze.

Solosis' springy body shot from one Reflect shield to the next. A look of immense concentration was present on the pokémon's face as he directed his bouncing by angling his shields. At first it was pretty easy, but he'd always mess up after the fifth or sixth bounce. Given Wayne's instructions to learn how to move around the battlefield like this, he couldn't well just give up. He was actually kind of enjoying it.

"See that, Petilil? Solosis is getting the hang of it," Wayne said with a proud smile. The bulb-like grass type watched her comrade train, wincing when he messed up and bounced hard into the ground. He'd been told to reduce his membrane's springiness whenever this happened, so after the initial impact he'd roll to the stop.

"Hah, maybe I spoke too soon," Wayne knelt down, arms crossed atop his knees, "Don't worry, Solosis. You're a psychic type; you're bound to work this out eventually. All about using your brain, right? Err... you do have a brain, don't you? Or are you just a brain? Cause you're all... small and round and... stuff."

Wayne shook his head and pushed back up onto his feet, "Alright. We can take a break for now, I think. You guys need to get healed and I need to get like, a shower or something."

Both pokémon nodded enthusiastically, deflating Wayne somewhat. He managed a sigh of, "Gee... thanks..."

**

A layer of smoke clung to the Pokémon Center staff room ceiling. It was rare to see many trainers crawl out of their rented pits this early in the morning; nobody would begrudge a pair of usually diligent workers a smoke and a gossip.

One nurse exhaled as she took the cigarette from her lips, "I had another one calling me 'Nurse Joy' yesterday."
"Ugh! I know! These kids do it all the time! What is wrong with them?" the other took a drag. "Do they think we're cartoon characters?"
"I have no idea. I'm just waiting on the day I snap and seriously, right in one of their bright-eyed, gormless little mugs, just yell, 'Who the hell do you think I am?!'" she waved her hands dramatically as her friend laughed.

"Yo!" came a shout from the lobby, "Nurse Joy! You here?!"

"Great," the second nurse blew out and stubbed her cigarette in the ashtray, "another one of the little freaks. I got this one."
"Have fun," said her friend mirthlessly, taking another drag.

--

"Good day! Welcome to the Striaton City Pokémon Center! How may I help you?"

"Err," Wayne paused. Was that a trick question? Maybe. Probably. Fine, he'd play her little games. He took out a pair of pokéballs from his pocket and placed them down carefully on the counter, not removing his eyes from the nurse, "I just need these healing. That's all."

"Very well, sir," the nurse said, making to pick up the two pokéballs. But before she could, one of them burst open in a shower of light. Petilil flung herself into Wayne's chest and the trainer staggered back.

"Whoa, what's wrong?" he asked, picking the pokémon up and lifting her up, "It's just Nurse Joy." A vein throbbed at the nurse's temple but Wayne didn't notice. "Relax a little, would you?"
"Petilll..." the pokémon whined and Wayne sighed.
"You've been for check-ups before. You know it's not the end of the... world... are you- are you sulking? How the hell are you doing that when your face is just a pair of eyes?"

"There you go," the nurse said gently, picking Petilil up at her sides and out of Wayne's grasp, "This won't take a-"

It sounded like somebody farted. They didn't, probably, but that was the sound that emerged from Petilil's leaves when she sprayed the nurse with a cloud of Sleep Powder. The woman collapsed, face first to the ground, leaving Wayne stunned and Petilil watching her fearfully.

"Well." Wayne trailed off as he tried to think of his next word. "s**t." Yeah, that seemed suitable. He looked about but nobody else was around. So in one quick swoop he vaulted over the desk and landed on the other side, behind reception, the sound of his feet clapping against the floor shouted out. He paused and waited to see if somebody would come before crawling around the other side of the nurse and rolling her onto her back.

"Hey, hey!" he hissed, "Wake up, willya?" He hesitated for a second and then quickly, lightly, started slapping the woman's cheek. "C'mon, wake up so I know you're not gonna sue me. There are laws against this kind of thing. Probably."

"What's going on?" called out a voice from behind. A chill shot up Wayne's spine and in the time he had to look over his shoulder, the second nurse got a lungful of Sleep Powder, courtesy of making Petilil jump. Now the two were on the floor in practically a heap.

"You can stop that right now," Wayne said as he scraped Petilil's pokéball from the desk and recalled her by pointing the beam over his shoulder. He got back to work, deciding to drag the two nurses over to just underneath the reception desk where they wouldn't be spotted by any passing trainers. Then he'd be able to search the back rooms for Awakening. Or run away.

He heaved from the work, breaking into a fast sweat. The two nurses were slumped next to each other, heads hanging, as Wayne stood up and mopped his brow with the back of his arm.

"Excuse me," a man's voice spoke from over the counter. Wayne's face went bright red and his heart threatened to jump right out of his throat. He shuddered as he turned around and saw a burly-looking trainer giving him an odd look. "Do you work here?"

Come clean now or try to fool this guy? This was certainly a fork in th- "Yeah," Wayne lied, "That's completely the reason why I'm behind this counter."
"Alright, no need to get tetchy, I was just asking," said the burly trainer, hands up defensively, "Wait," there was a slight-to-very amused tone to his voice, "are you a male nurse?"
"We prefer to be called manurses," said Wayne quickly.
"Where's your uniform?"
"Err..." Wayne glanced over his shoulder then frowned, looking back, "What? Do you want to see me in a-- wait, don't answer that."

In his heightened state of distress, the pokéball seemed to pop out of nowhere. The burly trainer deposited his pokémon on the desk in front of Wayne and the trainer just stared at it. The lid was on opaque mode so he could only imagine what kind of pokémon it held within. Probably something big and mean. Something that'd tear the pretenders of the medical profession new orifices that the real doctors would get the pleasure of naming. Wayne gulped and took the pokéball in hand.

"I'll... I'll just take this out back and... see, err. This won't take a minute," Wayne said, turning his back on the man and heading into the back room and out of sight. It wouldn't take a minute. It'd take a helluva lot longer; he didn't know what happened next. How did they heal pokémon anyway? Was it magic? It seemed like magic. Maybe one of his pokémon could tell him? No, they'd probably just find a way of making this worse.

He peered back through the doorway and the trainer was absentmindedly picking his nose while surveying the lobby. He hadn't noticed anything was wrong. Now just as long as the nurses weren't snorers... and the possibility made Wayne's heart sink.

A crash stole his attention. Like a pane of glass being smashed in. He jolted around. There was another door leading off the back room, one that was labelled 'Supply Room'. Wayne crept closer and pushed the door ajar so he could peer through. He could see the edges of someone bowing down and scooping something off the floor. He prodded the door gently to get more sight but a squeaky hinge gave him away.

The nurse dressed in bright pink looked back at him like a Deerling caught in the headlights. It was silent until Wayne went, "Uhh... knock knock?"

She shoved her stolen bottles of pills and potions into a knapsack and bolted for the door. Even though she was smaller than Wayne, she managed to shove him aside and dash for the exit. He called out, "Hey, wait!" but she was fast; already taking off past the front desk and through the lobby. Wayne jogged to reception in time to see her leave, a frown on his face.

That was... the cute nurse from last night. She was long gone by now. And was she robbing the pokémon center? Of... of course she was. "What is going on here...?"

"Hey, buddy," the burly trainer leant forward, suddenly looking huger than ever, "my Igglybuff just needs a potion or two. Don't make me wait."
Wayne shot him an annoyed look. He was done. "Take it up with the management." He stared for a few seconds until his shoulders drooped, "I mean," an exasperated sigh, "one moment sir."

With her hands buried in her pockets, Salieri was back to strolling down Striaton streets, the old lady’s words having been discarded in her mind. What did she know, anyway? “I like to see sights, that’s it,” she mumbled to herself while entering the pokemon center. Her sight seeing had turned into training the moment she went inside the Trainer Academy, and now her pokemon were probably tired.

Inside, she was surprised to see Wayne Lee behind the nurse’s desk. A volunteer, perhaps? Or maybe he switched professions after losing to Chili? Regardless, Sal was amused by the sight, and she gave Wayne a flirtatious whistle as she approached him.

“Hell~oooooo nurse!” she exclaimed to Wayne with a grin, resting her elbows up on the counter. “…wait, man nurse? Murse?”

"Hey, that's offensive to my people," Wayne retorted. That big trainer had just left, the coast was almost clear. And then it wasn't. "and it's manurse anyway..."

The trainer glanced down at the two sleeping nurses. Hopefully Salieri wouldn't notice them. Realising he was staring, Wayne turned his attention back to the other trainer and said, "What's got you in such a good mood anyway, Salieli?"

Salieri was glad that Wayne got her name right this time around. It added to her good mood. By now, the incident with the old lady was all but forgotten.

"Why shouldn't I be? It's a beautiful day out, my team got in some good training, and I might get to the next town by the end of the day." The girl stopped her list short and snapped her fingers, her grin growing catlike as her hand went to her trainer bag on her hip. "Oh, check this out."

The Battle Girl flipped her badge case open, the Trio Badge shining in Wayne's face. "Ta-da! I don't know if you saw it last night, but I wiped the floor with Chili! With a Grass type, too!" she bragged. Of course, it hadn't been that decided. Actually, it was a pretty tough match. Without Cilan's help, Salieri wouldn't have been as lucky. But for the sake of glory, Salieri exaggerated the feat.

"Yeah, it was pretty cool. But whatever, there are other reasons to be happy. After all, today is only my second day being a real trainer. If I keep up this pace, the Saffron Gym will be mine." The thought was tantalizing to Sal, and so she grinned slyly at the image of getting her family's dojo back.

She looked back up to Wayne while returning her case to her bag, taking out her pokeballs in exchange for Wayne to heal. And then she remembered that he was a manurse now. "So I gotta ask, Wayne...how'd you get back there?" she said to the trainer, pointing to behind the desk. The nurses were hidden safely from her view. "Is there a strike or something?"
PostPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 1:27 pm

Her second day and she'd beaten the gym. Wayne had been a trainer a lot longer and he'd failed. She'd beaten Chili too, with a type disadvantage. That stung. That was like a Beedrill bitchslap. He didn't react. Not openly. But he was crying on the inside.

"Well, y'know... something like that," Wayne said, rubbing the back of his head, "Truth is, the nurses are taking a nap so I hopped over to get my pokémon healed. Next thing I know I'm a manurse."

He remembered. How could he forget? "Oh yeah. Did you see a girl in a pink nurse's outfit running out of the pokémon center? About 5'4", brown hair in a pony tail, really cute...? She probably looked like she'd just robbed the place, got caught and made a break for it. That kind of look."

Sal rose her eyebrows when Wayne said he healed his own pokemon. "Really? Sweet."

Salieri jumped off of the ground, and in a graceful leap pressed he midair foot against the counter. Keeping the motion, she flipped over so that she cartwheeled in the air and landed facing the computer behind the desk. Salieri reached forward and grabbed her pokeballs off of the counter. She didn't look as though she had just done any strenuous physical activity. After all, she was a Battle Girl. They used martial arts for everything.

"Pink nurse's outfit, huh? Really cute? Hmm, I think I missed that," she responded as she loaded her pokemon onto three of the six slots in the tray wired to the computer. The screen had just been active before, and so Salieri had no need to set up the program. She just clicked the "Heal" button, and soon her pokeballs flashed with a white light.

"Y'know, word on the street is that a lot of patients died in the hospital. Maybe there's some sort of conspiracy going on? And that nurse you saw could be in on it," she proposed in a hypothetically playful tone as she retrieved her pokemon from the tray. Her eyes darted at the floor, where she saw the two nurses sleeping. The way Wayne had propped them up made them look like they were napping with each other. Nothing unordinary here.

"Jeez, you were kidding about the nap thing. The medical services in this town are pretty lame, huh? Wayne, you should be getting out from behind this counter before you're caught up in something weird."

Salieri twirled to beam up at Wayne, holding her hands together behind her back. "Wanna get some food? I don't know about you, but me and my team are starving. C'mon, it's on me," she offered. She had just gotten a good deal of pokedollars from the trainers she beat in the morning, not to mention the handsome reward she got from beating Chili. Besides, she felt like a friendly gesture could constitute as something of an apology for chewing out Wayne the night before.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 2:33 pm

"Now that you mention it, I am pretty hungry..." Wayne held his stomach tentatively and trailed off. Salieri had really fallen for his white lie? Lucky. But still, "I'll pay half." There. Now he's not taking advantage of her generosity.

The trainer unlatched the side of the desk, which was basically a wooden board on a hinge, and walked out from behind the counter.

"But can we avoid the pokémon gym? I skipped out on paying last night so I don't wanna go back unnecessarily."

The Munna's idea to train in Route 4 was quite smart. It was nice having a native of the area him. Avan asked why not the Dreamyard? Baku retorted that then he'd be a traitor bringing in riffraff to hurt his brethren. The boy didn't find that amusing. How dare he call Avan "riffraff". However, he could see the truth behind it. Psychic types didn't match well against Ghosts. So, this route was the next best thing. And what was so good about it? Well, after a few minutes exploring Avan quickly learned that the route could prove more dangerous than he expected.

Out of nowhere a jolt of electricity flew past them. The three: Avan, Baku, and Kali, saw their new opponent; Blitzle. They were apparently native to this specific location in the Unova region. Avan didn't know that, and suffice to say he wasn't prepared. Why had it attacked? The answer was obviously they had intruded upon it's territory but Avan tried to make nice. He apologized and aked if the zebra-like pokemon would lend itself to a training battle.

And then Kali's training began. With no immunities to her attacks, being pure electric-types, the Blitzle were prime targets to face with her ghostly abilities in preparation for their gym battle. Baku sat in a nearby tree and watched Avan try to command the Yamask in battle; and saw that he wasn't very good at it. Avan made stupid mistakes and tried things that worked better in his head; it was quite sad. But who could blame him. He wasn't a trainer. The Munna floated away while the distracted Avan battled.

Avan on the other thought he and Kali were holding their own quite well. A few well timed Night Shades here, a few Protects there, with a little Haze when the Blitzle tried raising its stats. When Thunder Wave was unleashed, Avan healed Kali with a Full Restore. He even healed the Blitzle when it's health got too low. Can't have a training battle if either side faints too quickly.

"Ominous Wind!" Avan called out. The wind blasted from the Yamask and tore through the bit of forest in which they fought. The Blitzle braced itself and shot a Shockwave attack through the wind. The electric attack hit Kali, sending her skidding back, well it wasn't exactly a skid, since she floated, but y'all get the point. "Use Night Shade Kali!" The ghost pokemon darted through the trees and used them to block the blasts of electricity sent her way. Then a release of a black and purple beam which hit home on her target.

The Blitzle had put up a good fight but this was it. It dropped to it's two front knees. Avan stopped the battle and went to the Blitzle, thanking it and healing it.

*

After it ran off, Munna returned and motioned for Avan to follow. He had located a much better area to train in. Some place to utilize Kali to her full potential.

Salieri nodded. She was already tired of looking at the defeated gym as it was. To her it just stood as a symbol of past victory that had to be looked beyond. "I don't care where we eat as long as we can get a lot of food. Pokemon with Gluttony are like vacuums," she told Wayne, referring to her Pansage.

The pokémon center doors opened with a swoosh as the two trainers walked out into the springtime sun. Wayne had his hands behind his head, looking about for a small cafe or other convenient food locale.

"Yeah, and pokémon with vacuums are like... slave labour. Cause you don't pay them... and stuff," he quickly pointed at a diner on the corner of a block, its large windows stretching the length of both sides, "Hey, there's a place! You can see people eating inside!"

-edit-

"But err," Wayne looked over to Salieri, looking a little apologetic, "I just remembered I gotta go do something."

He started to hurry off but turned back and waved, "I'll see you later. Adios!"
