Don't worry, I'm lending you the sign so you weren't affected, and I put the reversed Midas curse on the sign myself so I am not affected.

The item serves to protect, but if you trust the person he or she will not be turned unless the motive was to steal. Even so, people can be changed back if you wish it.
Although out of the last 57 people who disregarded the sign, only 12 seemed to be worth more as a person than as gold.
