About Me:
Ignis is headstrong, confident to the point of arrogance, impatient, competitive, and unbelievably stubborn. He rarely interacts with other soquili and could be classified as a loner, not because he's shy, but because he simply prefers the uncomplicated silence of isolation. It is very difficult to get to know him because he tends to bottle up his true feelings, and hide them behind gruff mannerisms and a volatile temper. He has difficulty interacting on a meaningful level with those around him and often reacts defensively when faced with the prospect of confronting his emotions (as he unconsciously feels that he is admitting weakness.) As Ignis is easily exasperated, he tends to yell a lot, especially at those he cares for, usually when they give him cause to worry, but his threats are, for the most part, empty and he means no harm by them, its simply one way he deals with stressful situations.
Unless in danger, his generally blustery overreactions are just that, all bark and no bite- That is a very important concept to grasp if one wishes to maintain a relatively close relationship with the Harvest King, he drives people away. It is also wise to remember that Ignis is an extremely large and well muscled stallion. Although he is not fully combat trained, he has the potential to be extremely dangerous if he feels threatened.
Ignis is slightly sexist, he posses a few archaic beliefs about gender roles that he holds onto mostly due to the subconscious and slightly masochistic amusement he derives from seeing the reactions of any females around him. He feels that females are weaker, that their duty is to take care of their family and values stereotypical feminine traits in potential mates.
When it comes to those he cares about, especially females, Ignis is extremely overprotective (often to the extreme irritation and exasperation of those he 'protects.' He is also unfailingly faithful and if any mare could crack his tough, blustery exterior, they would find an unexpectedly big heart.
Ignis is still young for a soquili, he is spirited and quite often reckless. He enjoys the thrill of danger and will often fly complicated and dangerous paths for the pure joy of it. Although he dislikes companionship he has a deep and abiding love for life and of experiencing nature that is very well suited for his Angeni heritage. He loves the thrill and the freedom of flying, he lives for the open sky and does not enjoy being in confined spaces or being trapped on the ground. His wings are as important to him as his soul.
Although Ignis tends to wander wherever his mood takes him, he likes being able to come home to the comfort of familiar surroundings and so possesses what would be aptly described as a 'bachelor's pad' near the summit of a small but steep mountain next to Rockside falls. No one outside of his family have ever been welcomed there and as it is extremely difficult to reach for those without wings, he has little fear of his sanctuary being disturbed.
Likes: Apples, shiny red ones, they are his soft spot. He will often leave his home for days just to search for a tree (He has never thought to bring any back with him), flying, swimming, taking risks, nature, fall
Dislikes:'giggling,' bullies, expressing emotions, tight spaces/feeling confined
History:
Ignis has a complicated past. He was raised by his father in the heart of the mountains, his mother having died when he was just a foal leaving him with only the soft fuzzy memories of a child to remember her by. His father was a hard and unforgiving stallion, prizing strength and power above all else. He did not tolerate failure, not in his son, and not in himself.
Ignis left as soon as he came of age and never looked back. Despite their kinship, there was never a close bond between him and his father, who pointed out Ignis' many faults at any opportunity. Escaping his childhood home had been a relief. He settled at the edge of a mountain range. The mountain he chose was high enough that he would be safe from most dangers as well as from being disturbed but low enough that the winters were tolerable.
He lived there for a year or so, content to while away the days alone, venturing from his cave home only to stretch his wings and navigate the complicated currents and eddies of wind that spiraled between the peaks.
Ignis met few other soquili in that first year. When he did encounter another he was often gruff and critical. Mares, especially were a conundrum for him. He, who had grown up without a mother or sisters, found their seemingly emotional natures unnerving and felt a need to categorize them so they would fit nicely into his view of how the outside world functioned. They were smaller and therefore weaker than stallions, they jabbered at him a lot, and seemed far more interested in mating and babies than he thought was prudent.
Early in his second year outside of his fathers' home, he met Jessamine. A fairer creature he had never met and he found himself spellbound by her beauty and grace and enthralled by her viciousness, so different from the timid quiet mares he had grown used to. Although she claimed to be uninjured, there was blood splattered across her flanks and he insisted upon staying the night to guard her, thinking she must have been attacked. She reluctantly agreed and they spent the night in each others' company.
Ignis opened his eyes the next morning, not to the lovely face of Jessamine, as he had hoped, but to two baskets nestled against his side and an empty clearing. There was no sign of the mare that had so enthralled him, with no other honorable option available to him, Ignis took the baskets and carried them away to safety, planning on finding a suitable pair of parents for the foals within.
Following the natural order of things, a few months later a pair of foals emerged from the baskets. Although he felt both trapped and terrified at the prospect of raising and protecting such fragile creatures, Ignis fell in love with the children at first site. He named them Sophia Rose and Adrian. The small family remained sequestered in a safe and secluded grotto for a while until the foals built up the strength and endurance of their wings to Ignis' satisfaction, whereupon they traveled to his cave home. Raising the foals helped mature Ignis to a certain degree but he was still a young stallion and although he certainly felt a father's ties to the foals, he was not really prepared for parenthood. Once Adrian and Sophia were grown and had left home on their own travels, he picked up many of his old bad habits again.
Following a bitter and emotionally charged fight with his son, Ignis went on a long flight to clear his head, he was struck by the beauty of the moon and stars. His mind was clouded by grief and anger and he made a foolish decision that would drastically alter his life. He decided to try and fly to the moon, he was strong, powerful, courageous. He reasoned if anyone could do it he could and it would be a source of pride his father would never be able to strip from him. He flew high, higher than many other soquili would ever dream of attempting, and he stopped only when his lungs were empty of breathable air and his wings so coated with ice they couldn't carry him anymore. He plummeted to the earth at terrifying speeds, managing to free his frozen wings at the very last minute to save his life but his left wing was damaged horrible when he plummeted through the forest canopy, becoming entangled more than once in the large branches before he fell to the forest floor.
He awoke some time later in a haze of pain to see the beautiful face of Jessamine peering down at him in concern. Ignis begged for her forgiveness and admitted the terrible things he had said to their son the night before. Jessamine refused to accept his apology but he passed out before he could resume his plea. It was only when he woke up the next morning that he saw the subtle differences in this new mare, Jessamine's daughter, still as exotic and untouchable as her mother but without the wounded viscousness that had so characterized his brief time with her mother. Jezabelle.
After a brief confrontation, Belle and Ignis set out to find a healer for Ignis' crippled wing. It was unable to carry him in flight, and his terror that he would never be able to fly again left him even more snappy and irritable than usual. The trip was barely bearable for the pair and despite the reluctant fondness that grew between the pair, Belle went her own way soon after they emerged from the forest, healer less. Ignis' wing had healed terribly, launching him into a dark period of depression and anger that made it impossible for the sensitive mare to deal with him. She left him with a warhorse named Ellette, who had agreed, with some hesitancy after being subjected to the sharp edge of Ignis' tongue, to help him train his mind and body for combat. The pair were both strong willed and hard headed, their student teacher relationship was rocky at best and their training sessions more often than not ended in screaming arguments. Nevertheless, Ellette never abandoned him and Ignis found himself developing a grudging respect for the mare, even the start of friendship.
While traveling with Ellette, Ignis and his mentor encountered a brutal purewalker attempting to prey on an innocent mare. The pair of them immediately launched into action, Ellette escorted the mare to safety while Ignis provided a distraction. He escaped with his life, but was left badly injured once more. Mortally wounded and with fever ravaging his body, he climbed a mountain, wanting to die among the clouds. Instead he encountered a breathtakingly beautiful and stubborn mare, Sephia, who refused to leave him to die honorably and alone. Ignis felt his cold heart begin to stir for the lovely stranger and despaired that he would find someone who could crack his tough exterior when it was already too late. Little did he know that the mare was a skilled healer and was capable of restoring, not only his life to him, but also his ability to fly.
