LOL, I was about to invite my friends over to show it off and then remembered they all have their OWN apartments (one even has a house) so really, a room my parents paid for most of is not all that impressive. BUT when I get outta here (1-2yrs once I graduate) I will be able to take it all with me.

LOL of course they KNOW of course they don't care. But I just mean it feels pointless showing off something that isn't truelly mine, to people who have... well one has a whole house and just got their first dog together. The other has an apartment, more animals than me and her boyfriend has four cars lol (the only not married friend has been with this guy about 3yrs now), then my other friend is looking for a house, has an apartment and a daughter and lastly the engaged friend's got her own place. It's annoying cause I was so excited when I got my car. I felt so "grown up" finally which had never really set in living with my parents. And I wanted to brag but then all my friends got married and moved out (and one already had a car but her parents helped pay for it) Living at home was bareable when I wasn't the only one. And then all my friends moved out at the same time and now I'm painfully aware that I'm kind of old to still be living at home.

Don't feel bad Gabby, you ARE grown up. You're going to college and making a living for yourself and at the moment that just happens to involve living with your parents. We're in the same age range and I'm the only one my friends who doesn't live at home. Truth be told if my mom wasn't such a b***h we'd probably still be there, easier to save up for a house when you don't have full bills to pay.

Love to help, as always. Java Moss is generally a slow grower, but I've found a secret to making it grow crazy fast. Tie it to something. For some reason being anchored to something makes it grow really well. I've been growing it in different ways for about 3 years now, and it barely ever grew until I started tying it to pvc pipes. I have yet to be able to keep java fern alive long enough to grow into an adult plant. What always happens to me is that it starts to die back, then the dead leaves will for little planlets, those will grow a little, then die and repeat the process so frustrating. I have an anubia, Plant the roots in the sand but leave the thick fleshy part above it and those do fine.

Ugh, I fail at life. I was washing the sand the way you said. After like...10-15 times I was like WTF, it's still not clear. I left the water running and walked away. When I came back it seemed clear, so I emptied it and filled it again, but it was cloudy again. So I washed it a few more times, and decided it must settle cause holly damn it shouldn't take this long. So I just put it in the tank now. Umm, I don't think it's gonna settle any time soon.

Also, note to self. Fill filter with media BEFORE starting it. And I has Savage in my head "don't freak out cause that's NOT what we do. But I freaked out all the same. I was like ITS NOT WORKING. So I just dumped water INTO it and that seemed to jump start it.

Anyway, gonna leave the sand over night, and pray the dust settles. How much should be in the tank? There's..1cm ish in there now. It's a bit uneven at the moment though.

How much you put in the tank depends on how much you like. I usually put 1-2 inches, you can do more or less. Did you swirl the sand around as or after you added the water to the bucket? Don't worry, the first time I put sand in I thought it was all cleaned and my tank was cloudy for a week >.> Depending on how much of the dust you got out it could take a few days, but it will clear. You're gonna have to rinse your filter media out after, it'll get very dusty. When you added the sand, did you add the water first and do the cup trick I told you about?

Well, I'm still worried cause with the hose on full blast in the bucket, the water WASNT clear. Only when I left it running. But I really did wash the s**t outa that sand. Meh, I think the amount I have now is good, plus I refuse to go through that again. I did sort of, what you said... I filled the tank maybe half way, added the sand, then filled the tank the rest of the way. Ya, that was probably stupid.

Should I leave the filter on or off while I pray and wait for it to settle? I assumed running water would slow it from settling but maybe the filter would catch some of the dust.

Leave the filter on. You want the dust out of there, not settled with the sand.
