Lesson Three: Dream Catch Potion
╚══════════════╝

Strolling in, the professor glided his wand towards the board causing the day’s lesson to appear. Now he sat and waited to see if any students would arrive.

        Quote:

Potion: Dream Catch Potion- This potion needs to only sit on the bed stand at night; it records and encourages the witch or wizards dreams, and only works if concocted by that same witch or wizard. Dreams are often difficult to understand, but the records act as a means to remind the drinker of what’s truly important. Each vialed potion can only record one week’s worth of dreams.

        1 tsp of Armadillo bile
3 cups of Powdered root of Asphodel
        half a dozen Ashwinder eggs
        2 handfuls of Belladonna flowers
        1 Crocodile heart
        5 ½ crushed Ginger roots
        13 liters Syrup of Hellebore
        3 dozen Jobberknoll feathers
        4 grams of powdered Moonstone
        2 Runespoor eggs
        ¼ cup of Scarab beetles
        5 Sliced Caterpillar
8 cups of Shredded Daisy roots

        1. Add seven liters of syrup of hellebore to the cauldron and leave to boil.
        2. In a separate mortar, crush belladona flowers, crushed ginger roots, and powdered moonstone until contents are powdered together as one.
        3. Add one teaspoon of armadillo bile to the crushed mortar mixture and stir, then, combine mixture to the cauldron stirring clockwise and the mixture will shift into a dark crimson color.
        4. Add three cups of powdered root of asphodel, stir counterclockwise for five minutes, and then clockwise for two minutes.
        5. Add half a dozen eggs of ashwinder, if the concoction is correct, the eggs should sink to the bottom.
        6. Toss in one crocodile heart, but be wary, the potion will begin to bubble and froth, allow it to do so until it almost seems to bubble over and then toss in the three dozen jobberknoll feathers, and the mixture should begin steaming as it cools and the froth lessens and disappears leaving a murky maroon color behind.
        7. Allow the mixture to sit for approximately ten minutes, or until the mixture has cooled and stops steaming.
        8. Then, add the sliced caterpillars and the shredded daisy roots, turning counterclockwise only.
        9. Drop in a quarter cup of scarab beetles, and two runespoor eggs; the mixture should begin fading to a red color.
        10. Combine the remaining six liters of syrup of hellebore and the potion will turn into a translucent shade of brown is concocted correctly.

David walked into Alchemy and the moment he did he made his way to his desk. Taking a seat he read the board and didn't know if he believed it. Sure he was born into the wizarding world but a potion that recorded dreams... wizard's thought of everything. "Why in the world would you want to record your dreams?" David asked. The sixth year Gryffindor couldn't help but question the potion. He certainly didn't have reason to his record dreams... at least not that he knew of. ‘It looks complex…’ he thought as he skimmed to potion instructions.

Status: A potion for recording dreams? Seriously...

”Well,” he paused to smile, ”that's a very good question. You see, in history, it was always presumed that dreams could either be visions of the future, some alchemists claimed that their best ideas for experiments come from their dreams, it inspires them and they believe it's an access to the locked domains inside of our brain. It's common knowledge that, as humans, we only really utilize a small part of our brains to function... It's also been proven that dreams are a means for our brains to record events and memories of what had transpired in your life each day; it's been believed that watching your own dreams every morning you wake up can help improve your memory, though there's little evidence to back any of it up.

“It has, however been used more recently for psychology treatments, as it seems that ones fear or inhibitions can be found in the symbolism of recurring dreams or nightmares and by analyzing and understanding what those fears are, you can begin to actively overcome them in day-to-day routine.”

First Lesson: Dormir
╚══════════════╝

Long, dutiful strides carried the Hispanic professor of alchemy to the front of his classroom with his wand in hand, a simple swish, and the familiar script of the professor suddenly scribbled a spell and its directions on the board. ”Welcome to Alchemy IV, I am Professor Angel, or just professor.” He repeated for the fifth time that week with a generous smile on his lips. ” this class we’re going to learn a rather complicated spell due to its lasting effects on the mind. The wand-work is quite complicated, but the pronunciation is moderate, just watch me, DOR-meed.” He recited, and emphasized the movements of his wand for the class to watch and learn. "Now, on the chalkboard you'll find the page number in your textbooks, once you've finished reading the chapter team up and practice, Please, keep in mind, that the only way to release your hold without blacking out, would be too repeat the spell as though you’re doing it again,

"And, don't be scared to have fun with it, either, if you're the odd one out, you can practice with me."
He chuckled, this had always been his favorite first lesson.

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness..."

Theo walked into the classroom of one of his favorite classes. Surprisingly, despite his lack of being good at Potions...it hadn't really translated over into Alchemy, mainly because he actually enjoyed the class. The professor taught it well at least. He obviously knew what he was talking about. But as soon as he started talking, he pretty much gave them an assignment to read. To which, he dove into the book and actually read it.

After he was done reading the professor had asked them who wanted to volunteer. Much to his expectation...not many people raised their hand...but Theo really could careless. Raising his hand, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "I'll do it I guess," he said, standing up and going to the front of the classroom. He really could careless what happened. The guy knew what he was doing so more likely than not, Theo would definitely come out of this a-okay...or at least...not too hurt...hopefully the latter being the situation that prevails.

Tanya was excited for this class mainly because it was one of her favorites, even after she had gotten over her small practically non-existent crush on the handsome professor. Whom she just recently discovered is old enough to be her father. Literally. That sort of put a damper on things. She took a seat near the front getting out her stuff and waited for the start of the class. She watched his slow and deliberate wand movement and enunciation of the spell and when he told them to read the chapter she flipped open her textbook to get to it. Reading about the spell and its origins she could see why Professor Amorocho wanted to demonstrate first before allowing them to practice, although she was a little apprehensive about having someone in the class cast the spell on her. When he asked for a volunteer she looked around to see if anyone would before Gibbs decided to do it himself. She honestly wasn't sure which she wanted to happen; him falling unconscious or him falling gullible to the professor's suggestions/

David had taken a seat near the front, happy to be in a class where he thought the professor was actually competent-despite David still occasionally questioning his house's head in his choices of prefects (specifically the naming of himself instead of Echo), granted being a prefect did keep David a bit more preoccupied which was probably for the best. After all, generally David's natural irritability and ability to grow bored quickly (since he did get his work done and studying done at much more efficient rate than his peers-though he was a lot smarter than his peers, David would like to point out) tended to be the main cause of his disruptions. And of course, David supposed, as his sister pointed out, David's lack of normal people skills.

He wasn't surprised to see Professor Amorocho diver right into lessons, which was another credit for the class and professor in David's opinion. He opened his book to the page requested, having read it already just glanced at it briefly before pulling out his notes he had already wrote on the topic over the summer. After the professor asked for a volunteer, there was a brief pause before Theo volunteered to be the test subject. Good, David thought snidely, better him be the guinea pig than me. He can earn the credit for being some test subject. I'd rather actually get credit for actually doing something worth noting.

Alchemy IV
Lesson One: Dormir Spell
Wedneday, Block Four, 11:00am to 11:45am

╚══════════════╝

”As I'm sure you've all realized, this spell is highly criticized, as it emulates the Imperius Curse on a much smaller scale. However, due to the drastic differences in morality between each individual, the spell, like many spells in alchemy, is rather unpredictable, there's never a guarantee it will be successful. It's believed that due to the nature of this spell, it and it's teachings, should be prohibited, much like the three unforgivable curses. However, it has never seen it's way through to the ministry. One, it's never been successfully completed to commit any crime, two, it is not a dark curse, and three, wizards don't often like to have their freedoms taken away, especially alchemists, what little of us there are.

“So, Mister Gibbs, please, breath in and out, empty your mind, release your inhibitions and open up yourself to susceptibility.”
Professor Amorocho instructed carefully, taking a moment for himself to breath in through his nose and out through the mouth before he raised his arm up in the air, elbow bent back, then swooped his wand forward in circular motions followed by a final thrust, as if he'd thrown an invisible lasso forward, and clearly pronunciated the charm, ”Dormir,” his wand shot out a silver wisp and it slowly spun around Theo like a small cloud of smoke before evaporating away. ”Mister Gibbs, take a step back, bow, and hold your wand at the ready,” he instructed, then turned his attention to the class. ”If you know your subject, their likes and dislikes, their morality, it makes certain tasks easier to follow than others. But keep in mind, they can't speak, not under this state of mind, to try and coerce someone to do that, would give their mind too much awareness causing the spell to be broken.” He turned back to Theo and raised his wand, pointed the tip at him with a soft flick. ”Dormir.” He repeated, quickly ending the spell, through which, Theo would find himself momentarily confused of the past few forgotten moments. ”Thank you, Mister Gibbs, ten points to Gryffindor for your contribution. Now, unless another student arrives, I would like you three to practice the spell together, take turns practicing the spell on one another, and be courteous to your partners. The one not practicing, or being practiced on, can detail the observations of the spell in your notes.”

[OOC: Sorry to rush through this, I would've given you, Red, a chance to post Theo properly responding but thought it would be better to give yall more time to practice together. This class will run through next week and the next lesson will begin on the 28th. Oh, and always be mindful of godmodding, allow the other a chance to succumb to the spell or not. Feel free to plot together on the outcomes. Be courteous. (And all that jazz.) ]

A slight scowl grew on David's face as he listened to Professor Amorocho discuss the dormir spell and then demonstrating a spell using Theo as his example. After the demonstration, Professor Amorocho instructed Tanya, Theo, and himself to team up together to practice the spell. As Theo headed back to sit down, David sighed and picked up his things before sitting down across from Tanya and said to the group. "I can take notes for you both to start off," David announced picking up his quill, "unless you don't want to start us off, Gibbs? I would volunteer to be Gibbs' test subject but unfortunately it would be quite a waste of time since I have a moral objection to listening to anything people like him say, which would make the practice really quite useless for everyone."

He raised a brow at Theo and said to him, "Unless you don't want to start us off...?" Shrugging, David raised his quill waiting for an answer. The fact of the matter was David held no respect for Theo as David judged his classmate years ago to be lazy and careless, thus, David lacked any respect for him at all. David was confident-even if Theo performed this correctly-that David's own refusal to listen to anyone with a lazy character (as David deemed Theo to be) due to the fact in David's head morally the individual didn't deserve the respect or courtesy as he didn't earn it-the spell wasn't likely to actually show results anyways. Holding his pen poised over his parchment he waited for the two Gryffindors to answer.

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness..."

Well, that was certainly an interesting time. He had no idea what was happening and he had no idea what he did. He just remembered getting the spell cast on him and then...nothing. The professor could've made him do anything he wanted...and Theo would've complied...which was not good. That meant they would have to be practicing this...and the only people in the classroom...was League and Tanya. Well, instantly looking to the professor, who may or may not know the details of the relationship between the three students. "Uhm...professor...I don't know how great of an idea that would be. I'm not going to not do it if you tell me, but I'm pretty sure none of us like each other," he said to the man, shaking his head as he thought about all the things that he could be made to do.

He went to sit back down, still shaking his head...when League had up and insulted him. "Spare me the moral outrage League, the feeling is very well mutual," he said to the boy, shaking his head as he looked back at the professor. "Are you sure about this professor?" The worst part is Tanya hadn't chimed in yet...and he could only imagine what she would have to say about the whole thing. She probably didn't want to be under just as much as her classmates didn't.

Tanya watched with interest as Professor Amorocho explained what they had just read about the spell before actually performing the spell on Theo. She was disappointed he didn't make him do much but considering the properties and ramifications of the spell she supposed he had his reasons. Still, it would've been a little funny to see him do more than just get into a basic dueling stance. After canceling the spell he ordered them to practice together making her blink. She felt a bit uneasy with the whole thing partly because she was the only girl in the group (in the class!) and partly because she knew that the two boys int he group really didn't like each other. Then Theo had to say that none of them liked each other-which was only partially true since she apathetic at best towards Gibbs-before actually sitting down with them. And then David had to open his big fat mouth and start on about how he'd take the notes while she and the other boy went at it insulting him as he said so making her inwardly (and possibly outwardly) groan and massage her temples. She was a pair of ovaries cast adrift in a sea of testosterone and ignorance. May God have mercy on her soul. When Theo asked Amorocho a second time she decided to put in her two knuts before things got ugly, or uglier. "I think he's sure about this otherwise he wouldn't have told us to do it. So, since David ever so humbly volunteered himself to take the notes this first round we'll cast at one another. And since you were the professor's guinea pig I guess you can start first." Tanya told him as she stood from her seat. She wasn't all that worried on what he might make her do, she was more worried about the possibility of the spell failing and her falling unconscious for a few hours. The floor really looked like it hurt!

David narrowed his eyes at Theo as he decided to speak for all three of them claiming that none of them liked each other and then went on to respond to his objection regarding Theo claiming the feeling is mutual. "One, get my bloody name right: it is David Sinclair Avery, which I stated as much in Mind Magic. Of course, why start paying attention properly in classes now? Two, you have no clue what my feelings are on anything, don't even begin to act like you know what goes through my mind, and speaking of Mind Magic, I will tell you'd be wiser not wanting to know," David snarled at Theo before glancing to Tanya who was trying to difuse the situation.

Sighing, David said, "I could do without the sarcasm, Tanya. And, let me be clear what the objection is now, Theo, since you assume we are on the same page about 'hating' each other. I don't respect you because you are lazy and careless and too arrogant to even recognize that about yourself thinking that your natural talent is enough for someone to take you seriously. I don't follow orders of people I have no respect for. And, the reason I can feel confident in that assertion of me is without a doubt I do more studying in a mere week you do in three months. But, yeah, go ahead and say our feelings towards each other are 'mutual'. Why would you rather try to use me as a test subject, Theo?"

He raised a brow, setting his quill down and held up his hands with his palms facing towards Theo, "Go ahead, feel free to make your attempt. But this isn't the Imperius Curse, like Professor Amorocho said, I won't be able to do anything I'm morally against. Actually listing to anything you would tell me to do at this point, Theo, I'm morally against... but, sure, go ahead if you want to make the attempt. I didn't say I wouldn't be your subject, after all. I only advised it best you not bother with me."

Alchemy IV
Lesson One: Dormir Spell
Wedneday, Block Four, 11:00am to 11:45am

╚══════════════╝

Angel had already mentally prepared himself; this particularly lesson had always been tricky, but it hadn't always been so. Years ago, a curse had swept the school like a plague, affecting dozens of children and staff members into unconsciousness, including one of his own students. In the end, he never really knew what had happened, though rumors cropped up like wildfire. But that class had been the only class allowed to forfeit the practical portion, and had been given the option to write a short essay on the moral stance of the spell, which he assumed, had been an easy task, considering the size of scrolls he'd received to grade. But this class wouldn't be given that option, oh no. And if he hadn't been thoroughly displeased at his students, he would have been highly amused at the wit of accusations being hurled back and forth. He supposed he should have stepped in sooner, but for a moment, it seemed Tanya had diffused the situation, he knew he could count on her to keep a level head, for the most part. But it hadn't been a lasting victory, and his hand had been forced.

”Enough!” He snapped, brows construed and every wrinkle in his forehead had been laced with ire. ”Difficult as it may be to hear, but life is not fair. I understand it may be difficult, more for some than others, to properly interact and communicate on a polite and respectful manner, which is exactly why you're all here today, in class, learning to grow and develop into young adults. All of you, one day, will be forced to cooperate with someone you may dislike, someone you may despise, or worse, work beneath someone undeserving of their position. In the real world, if you argue, you will get fired. You will not be reprimanded, you will receive no compromise, no second chance. So I suggest you all learn to bite your tongues and learn to work together, because I assure you, whatever career you wish to pursue, there will always be that one bloody git, and you'll remember this lesson, and when that day comes, I hope to receive an owl thanking me..." He may have embellished, just a tad, on the dire consequences of the "real world." But he had been honest about one thing, there is always that one git that you hate to work with. For Angel, it's Peeves, though luckily enough, the poltergeist is a less of a colleague and more of a tenant in this monstrous castle. "Now back to work..."
