Hybrid Theory (Sleeping too)

Evening wanted to object at Hati leaving the group behind, but once he started disappearing from her sight, she had to blink a few times. He did vanish! She shook her head. She had to get used to this crazy stuff. "At least my vision isn't being hurt anymore." Evening quietly mumbled to herself as she supported the gun in both hands, seeing even better in the tented room. She felt the tightness of the muscles in her arms flexing from the adrenaline. If anything happened it wouldn't take her a second to get her weapon up and have a bullet in someone.

Kiff kept a straight face. He still wasn't used to being around others. His sister's name came into his thoughts and he began getting a headache. His eye twitched when the click from the trap went off. He was about to stop time when the darts suddenly flew into other directions. "Nice." Kiff mumbled to the girl. He let out a deep sigh and picked up one of the darts. Only three? It was obviously set and activated recently. "They're watching us. We need to be careful." He looked around for cameras, but saw nothing obvious. "Wrex can you make a 'metal wave' to try to disrupt the cameras?" Kiff has assumed the boys power when he stopped the bullets and sent them back. He hoped his assumption was right.

Adam surprised the woman when he came in. She listened carefully to his offer and conditions and nodded. "Should I make an announcement to the officers? How should I let them know the kids are still out there?" She paced over to her desk, lifting the cap from the bottom, ready to press the override button for the sirens. She kept her eyes on the camera screen, seeing one of them examine the ceiling, looking for the invisible eyes. He wouldn't have any luck, though.

Ryan crossed his arms across his chest, lower lip protruding slightly in a pout. "Of course, if it's illogical it doesn't appeal to you, Mad." Came his reply, the sharp words cutting through the air like a knife. "I'm sure you'd find some way to hide the limbs. Retractable, or maybe they pop off to be carried and reattached at some later time. Actually, that sounds pretty interesting..."

"Eh, it's fine. I'm pretty sure I've had more fun with the guards than you have anyway." Sköll said reassuringly, flashing a large grin behind him.

After leaving the group, Hati moved as quickly as he could through the hallways, his footfalls as silent as a cat's despite the wailing sirens. Even though he didn't really see anyone else in the hallways he didn't want to take any chances. He'd never really been through the halls by himself before, actually. It was always with an escort of men toting tasers with the odd scientist or two jogging behind. Or with his twin, but even then it was with others. As such, his senses were on high alert and the sound of heavy breathing coupled with the static of a walkie talkie came to his ears with some difficulty. There were security guards nearby.

Wrex shook his head. "I've been out before, although I must admit it's always been by myself. I wasn't lucky then, and I'm not lucky now." When Kiff spoke he shook his head again in response. "Because of my 'luck' I broke the cameras using my powers in a rage induced escape. Since then they've modified all cameras not to include any metal. There's nothing I can do about them, I can't even feel them to tell you where they are." He shrugged once. "Sorry buddy."

Adam nodded his head quickly in response to the Ring Leader. "An announcement should suffice, but only make it once. Anyone who gets in my or the children's way will probably be harmed." As he rolled up the sleeves of his lab coat until they were above his elbows, as though he were a man about to go to work. He then proceeded to pull out black gloves from his right coat pocket and pull them on. "I suppose I would were that the direction the team decided to take. I would prefer to put their existing limbs to the limit before putting on additional sets." When he was done with his statement, he pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, which vibrated slightly in his hand. He popped the clip out and counted the bullets. Fourteen was the final number of experimental bullets he had been able to finish, two shots for each escaped hybrid. That was more than enough. He slid the pistol into the back of his pants, the belt holding it in place. "Now then, if you excuse me I have some prototypes I would like to test in the field." He turned to walk out the door, but stopped momentarily at the door. "Oh and Ryan? Don't pout, it makes you look pathetic." With his insult made the Mad Scientist made his way into the maze he knew so well in search of his children.

Jamie gave a slight embarrassed smile, that had never happened before, but she wasn't about to tell them that. She gently picked up one of the darts while the other two talked, this particular one was made of wood. Odd... she thought to herself. She looked up. "Maybe we don't need to know where they are, the camera's may have a set pattern that we could follow and disrupt as we go, instead of sending a...." She paused, a sudden thought dawning on her, she quickly turned to Wrex. "Can you do a EMP? To disrupt the camera wires?"

Chris grinned back, and beckoned Evening forward to be in front of him, Chris served better bringing up the rear, or the dead middle, if he had a choice he'd always be in the back. "I don't know, I've had some fine fun with mine." His grin was as big as Sköll's now. Chris even had a dangerous glint in his eyes, with that he gave a wink, and checked their rear.

Evening wondered if by "fun" they meant messing with the guards and toying with them. She had never done that. Then again she didn't think her powers had the ability to mess with people. When Chris waved his hand for her, she picked up her pace to get in the middle of the group again. She wondered about the outside now. What would she do if it was daylight? Would the glasses suffice to keep her able to see? Evening decided to let the thought go.

Kiff nodded and continued to brain storm. He listened to Jamie talk, her ideas interrupting his own. "That seems a lot better than what I was about to say." He stood the rest of the way, still holding the two darts he got in hand. He offered his hand for the other dart that Jamie was holding. "I was going to say that if the walls are material you can manipulate, Wrex, then you could feel along the walls, and then where gaps are will probably be where the cameras are."

The Ring Leader nodded, hiding her smile from the insults and ideas going to and fro the two scientists. She pressed the button, silencing the sirens, then picked up the phone and dialed 9. Her voice was disguised as it came over the rooms and hallways of the building. "Code Red is still enforced. Code red is still enforced. Mad Scientist is on the hunt. Again, Code Red is still enforced." She put down the phone with a sigh and continued to pace the room. Hopefully it would all work out. If it didn't she would have to come out with what she already planned for the children. If they didn't get those children back, their county would be in a hell hole come days later. Not because of the children, but because of the leaders and dictators she's promised them too.

Alpha popped up behind Wrex, Jamie, and Kiff, finaly deciding to leave after taking inventory from one of the fallen guards, finding a map of the building on an electronic device. "The cameras are in the far right corner, the middle of the room and over top of the door that is the entrance to the main foyer. If you want to destroy them then I suggest using Wrex to manipulate the metal insulators at the top of the cameras that are changing the eletrical feed into the plastic insulator. You should be able to feel them right Just a bit above the ceiling?"

"I bet it's nothing compared to mine, though." Sköll shot back good-naturedly.

Hati was running plans of attack through his mind when the sirens stopped and the lights returned to normal. A sharp ringing began in his eardrums at the sudden absence of the electronic wail, but he shook his head quickly to dispel it. If he was a little confused, then that might mean the guard patrol ahead would be as well. It was better to strike now, especially since the words "Mad Scientist is on the hunt" gave him a feeling of dread. Hati swung around the corner before he could think anymore and saw that a trio of security guards were only a few feet away from where he stood. Good. He sped past them silently, then turned on his heel, the butt of his stolen pistol aimed for a skull. With a sickening crack, the man fell to the ground, and his companions spun around. He'd never really fired a gun before, but still he raised it up, aimed, and pulled the trigger.

The sound of a wolf's howl drifted through the hallways to reach Sköll's ears not a second after, telling him everything that he needed to know. "Anyone else get the creeps at the voice over the intercom?" he asked.

Ryan found no plausible insult to throw at Mad's back as he left, and settled with a shrug and annoyed glare at the empty space the man had been. "Prototypes, logical, illogical," he stated aloud, his eyebrows meeting as a small bit of anger mounted of his features. "Something's got to be wrong in that man's head if he spouts even one of those words more than once in almost every conversation he has..." Ryan sighed and wandered over to the Ring Leader's set of screens. Despite his words, he was interested in what Adam had in store for the escaped hybrids.

Jamie smiled at what Kiff said. "Yours was a good plan too." she said handing him the dart, she jumped and let out a surprised squeak as another person popped up. She emitted the squeak as soon as the alarms went off, she blushed. And gulped at the message. "We should keep moving...."

Wrex shook his head at the response from the two. "I might be able to, but I don't know how. They aren't exactly training me to use this stuff you know. Everything I know about my powers I used in escape attempts." His words of doubt were cut short by the one he'd freed from the cell at the beginning. "Oh my, such a brilliant idea! I guess this means you can speak. Here I was thinking they'd ripped your tongue out for insubordination." Regardless he did as the kid suggested, reaching out to the metal, allowing their feelings to blend. That was when he paused. It felt, wrong. Different. Then the announcement came. "I can feel what you're talking about, but it don't feel right. And knowing the guy that is now on the hunt for us, it could lead to a mental shock the likes of which I wouldn't recover from until we were all back in our cages. Me and the old man go way back, which why I suggest we start running. By running I mean sprinting." If the mad scientist was on the hunt then that would explain the sirens going off, but that also meant he had some new devices to test. Not a good thing.

Adam turned the corner and heard gun shots, probably the scout from the second group. The group with out Wrex was the first target. Their powers varied more, even with the twins. Besides, Wrex was the usual capture, these kids were a new challenge. The Mad Scientist running into the scout first was no accident either, he had taken all the information he had needed in watching the screen before leaving the Ring Leader's office. His boots were design for something eh called flash step, but for the moment they were imperfect. He could do only maybe five flash steps with any given pair, and he wanted to save them for use, so he simply walked casually towards the floating gun from behind. He drew his own gun from his waistband, and held it, pointing towards the ground. The guards fell before the Mad Scientists eyes, but they were irrelevant. What mattered was the hybrids. "My, my Hati. You've been a bad boy. Didn't your mother teach you not to kill before she died?" The words would be enough to get the kid to turn, but not to shoot. After all the teen was no trained killer and although they made perfect animal sounds, they were not animals.

Alpha nodded. "They've been layered with some sort of feedback. Thinking of it as a mental shock is probably best. When the wires are tampered with they send out a psychic pulse in the form of inaudiable sound." Alpha looked over the map and information again before speaking again. "Sorry for putting you in danger like that. I had to make sure it was centralized in the wires before I acted. It seems they made a lot of these traps especially for you, probably from your several escape attempts, First. Oh, by the way, I am Second, you may call me Alpha. Now, if you will excuse me." Alpha stepped infront of Wrex and started walking into the room, using his mind to turn the cameras away just enough to hide their escape. "Come, the cameras are turned enough to hide us. I suggest walking directly behind me single file."

Hati froze for half a second at the sound of a voice behind him. He knew the owner of it, a particular orange-eyed scientist that all of the other researchers referred to as 'Mad Scientist'. The one that was on the hunt, and had found one of its prey. That was bad. He turned around slowly to face the man, dropping the gun as he did so with a clatter. Although holding onto it gave him an advantage, it also revealed where he was. Practice with hiding objects on his person while invisible hadn't gotten far after his brother had used his own ability, and resulted in having every object removed from their room. A burst of anger flooded into his mind at the remark made about his mother, but he dispelled it with a sharp yip. "We must have grown up in different places, she taught me much of what I know." After speaking, Hati silently cat-stepped over to the only unconscious guard's body and wedged his hands underneath in a way that was unnoticeable.

Sköll stopped as another of his twin's sounds came to him. It was a warning. He'd been found already, quicker than expected. The safe thing to do would be to find a different way to go, or to duck into a room. But the hallway seemed to run straight, a second hallway joining it in the middle to his right a few feet away, the way that Hati had gone, and the urge to go to his brother's aide was almost overpowering. "Damn!" He said indecisively, his grip on the metal bar tightening as his nails lengthened of their own accord.

"Yeah it was pretty freaky..." Evening looked over her shoulder, yet again. She had a cold sweat moving down her spine. She held her breath as she heard Sköll cursed "What's wrong, Sköll?" Her breaths were as tiny as she felt. "Is your brothr okay?" For some reason Evening felt it had something to do with Hati and that creepy voice that came over the intercom.

Chris watched Sköll, then put his hand on Evening's arm, "Stay low to the ground." he walked to Sköll and gently touched his shoulder, "I'll check up on him." and with out waiting for a reply made a quick dash for the hallway Hati went down. When he reached the mouth, he saw a man there, but no Hati, he'd have to be careful. "Who are you?!" Chis asked the man, leveling his gun at him. Chris wasn't afraid to kill this man if need be.

Kiff nodded with understanding of Wrex's thoughts. "Its the same for all of us. None of us have been trained. We've had to discover." He listened at Alpha and Wrex spoke, and looked to the girl as Wrex voiced what he felt. When he mentioned the guy that was apparently on the hunt for them, he felt a sweat began to form down the back of his neck. He was trying not to think about it, but with how worried Wrex seemed, it made him second guess the guys power. Kiff watched the other boy, Alpha, begin walking ahead, claiming the cameras weren't looking. That made him think. "Hey guys, maybe I can delay the camera times?" He looked at the walls, unsure of his idea.

The Ring Leader, too, walked behind Ryan to her cameras. She prayed to some sort of any god out there that whatever the Mad Scientist planned would work. She looked up at Ryan for a second, then looked back down to the screens. She wondered if she should tell him.
