Intent on his progress, Samuru only barely saw the whip and when he did, he reacted instinctively....and grabbed it before it struck his other arm. Not the brightest idea as it bit into his hand and burned as solid as if it were made of leather and not water. But he had it and he'd use it to his advantage, if he could. Yanking on it, pulling it out and back, Samuru used all the strength in his arm, a substantial amount, in an attempt to at least get Jae off balance.

Was he serious? He reached out and took hold of the whip, Jae knowing it had connected by the vibration that shot up her arm. As he pulled, so did Jae. The muscles in her arm flexed and her arm socket was being grinded out mercilessly from her efforts to pull back and keep from stepping forward and losing to Samuru's size and strength, something graced to him by his gender. Gritting her teeth she fought, not wanting to cave in to him. It was hard and she felt herself losing footing. A centimeter forward. Tch She had to turn this in her favor. The manacle around her wrist, formed by the liquid water that felt solid, bit into her fair skin. The more she fought the deeper the bite. Giving the whip one last pull against Samuru she relinquished her hold and control over the whip, the water dissolving and falling back into the river around them. Making a quick hand signal she moved a fraction millimeter in a fraction of a second and was gone in the next. This was no mere swap. Just pure speed. In the next instant Jae appeared behind Samuru, the girl already squatted down. Despite it's usefulness using body flicker was risky. It caused incredible damage to the body in exchange for incredible bursts of speed. Her muscles in her legs were already aching. Jae placed one hand over the surface of the water, as if this were the ground and then kicked out at the back of Samuru's legs in a sweeping manner.

Samuru's arm swung back much faster then he expected when Jae released the jutsu, his shoulder throbbing painfully. He tightened his legs as Jae vanished and his mind whirled, rushing through the possible attack points. Front was easiest......but Jae wouldn't go for the easiest. He knew her too well and he jerked his head, looking to the right.....and spotted her out of the corner of his eye. She was crouched behind him! As her leg connected with his, he went down but not without a strike of his own. His tonfa spun wildly as he fell, taking advantage of his longer reach, to strike her in the side, just under her stomach. It wasn't a very good attack, the tonfa swung awkwardly, and he hit the ground without knowing if it had made contact or not, losing his grip on it. His shoulder was screaming in pain now from the different pulling and thrusting and now landing on it. He rolled off it and onto his back, catching his breath and hoping Jae had been struck and so wouldn't be going for his throat right away....a slim hope but one he had to hold onto.

Miscalculation on her part. Having tried to rise to her feet and jump out of the way simultaneously, a sharp pain shoot up through her legs making it impossible to do just what her mind was asking her. As Samuru's Tonfa connected with her side, hitting her sharply under a rib, she grimaced, using the newfound pain as a way to distract her from thinking too much about the pain shoot up her legs from her earlier endeavors. That Justu, although easy to learn and utilize was a pain in the a** when it came to repercussions. "Son of a --." She said aloud, jumping back a bit as she watched him go to his back. Those Tonfa's of his were a lot more brutal than they looked. He hadn't even had a direct shot. It had been a long shot on his part. Or who knew. He might be a genius and her reach compared to him was a contributing factor. Too many factors to consider all she knew was that it hurt. Holding her side she folded forward slightly, standing a decent distance away from him. Looking over at him she considered attacking him but didn't. Instead she started laughing. "Ahahahaha" She stopped curtly, a sharp pain shooting up from not only her legs but her side. That is going to bruise.

Samuru looked over at Jae as she swore, seeing her move back, quietly debating the benefit of attacking. Except....his shoulder really stung and as Jae started to laugh, so did he. A raw laugh that made his shoulders shake "Sorry....I was desperate. Do you need the hospital?" he asked, sitting up to smile at her. His hair was sticking up in the back, dirt making it look a lighter color and he scooted over to her, looking concerned at her ribs. He hadn't meant to hit her so hard, simply wanting to throw her off another attack.

His laughter only made her laugh in turn. She had to pause a few times in order to make sure her bruised ribs did not crack on her from the effort. He was dirty but he seemed alright enough in disposition. Samuru asked her if she needed a hospital and she snorted. "The only thing hurt is my pride." Looking him over she noted her handy work and scowled. "You need the hospital." She said, moving to meet him. She squatted and winced, keeping from showing her discomfort. Reaching out she let her fingers hover over the places that blistered. Jae never actually made contact. She didn't want to add infection to his afflictions. It needed disinfectant. At least."Sorry. Does it hurt? Should I take you to a medic?" She brought her face closer to his, keeping her gaze level and square with his own. "If you play this down I will beat you to a pulp." She warned, placing her arms on her thighs.

Relieved, Samuru only nodded, intending to retrieve his tonfa and knife...but he gave a small groan as he felt the heat of her fingers on his blistered back. He closed his eyes, a little shiver going through him as the pain passed and bit his lip "It hurts..." he admitted, opening his eyes to find her very suddenly close. Oh boy. His breathing stopped for a second as he stared at her, finding himself suddenly without words. Again, he was struck by how pink her hair was. Weird, right? He averted his gaze, looking down at his knees and nodded mutely, feeling so out of sorts all of a sudden. Deciding that standing was the best plan, he put his hand out and pushed off the ground, rising up quickly "I still..." he kept his head down and, feeling pathetic now on top of the weird feeling, mumbled "I still don't like hospitals..." he extended one hand, fingers shaking just a bit, to help Jae to her feet "Can't I just wait till we go back home....?"

As he stood abruptly, Jae almost lost her balance. She jerked her body forward to keep on the balls of her feet an almost yelped when her bruised ribs protested against her movements, reminding her to be on her best behavior. As he offered her a hand she placed her own in his, tugging lightly as she lifted herself up. Jae stared at her hand in his for a second, the warmth rolling off of him was suddenly making her feel hotter than the hottest day in Suna. Being graceful about it, she slipped her hand out of his grasp quickly, masking her reaction by listening to his fears reiterated. A lot had changed about Samuru but this one thing did not. A small smile formed on her lips and she let out a small laugh. "Oh geez. Imagine if you had been really hurt during the exams. They would have forced you into one while you were unconscious." He needed to be treated and although she was teasing him she was concerned about tending to him first. Not wanting to wait until they were back. Oh that's right! She had forgotten! She wanted to show him during the fight but had lost sense of herself. "I'm not going to leave you like that until we get home...mom will kill me. You are her favorite, remember." Jae said, her last remark snarky but without ill will. Holding up her hands in a particular position, marks appeared along her spine, around her shoulder blades, over her shoulders and down her arms, traveling up her neck in intricate patterns. It almost looked like wings. Anukah please help. Activating her chakra completely, she summoned one of the birds that was allowed to be called, thanks to pacting with Karu. The blue bird was summoned, her wings beating frantically as she balanced herself. She was the smallest of her brethren and the most delicate but she was by no means a push over. Holding out her arm, offering the female bird a perch, Jae looked to Samuru. "Anukah, this is Samuru, Samuru meet Anukah. She can heal you." The azure bird landed lithely on Jae's offered arm and coaxed it's head to one side to look to Samuru. The bird nodded her head and then scooted up her arm, practically shoving Jae's face full of feathers. Jae laughed shyly, still not used to what she was honored to be able to do. "What do you say?" Jae asked, trying to look over a face full of feathers.

He didn't want to let go of her hand! But Samuru let it slide out of his, allowing himself to get back into his comfortable range of emotions. The thought of being forced into a hospital, of waking up in one...he swallowed, suddenly feeling ill. He shook his head a bit at the thought then smiled, finally lifting his head when Jae said he was the favorite "...am not. I just know how to not push buttons. Or break things..." he replied, equally waspish but with nothing but good antured jibes behind it. As marks suddenly appeared over Jae, he took a hesitant step forward "You got the sage!" he exclaimed as the beautiful blue bird suddenly appeared, watching the bird with clear adoration. It was such a pretty creature "If I don't have to go to the hospital, I'm fine...." he dipped his head a bit, bowing to the bird in advanced thanks "She's beautiful..." Samuru added the last part....but he couldn't help his eyes drifting to Jae as he said it. And there it came! The brightest red that had ever graced this Sanmiitai's cheeks. Swallowing and rubbing his nose with his thumb, he laughed, not sure what to do now "Should I stand or....?" he asked, looking at the bird.

Hardy har har. Breaking things when her mother annoyed her was hard. And Jae wasn't the most graceful of things. Ignoring his prodding she tried to settle Anukah down when the bird began to grow irritated at the mentioning of wounds. "They should be tended to. I will be more than pleased to help." The bird said, Jae closing her eyes a bit to keep the feathers from poking her in them. "I knew I could count on you Anukah." Jae said, pleased that Samuru was happy for her and that Anukah was willing to help them out. "Be careful Samuru, Anukah might fall in love with you if you keep praising her." Anukah ruffled her feathers, the bird becoming the equivalent to shy. Looking to Samuru as Anukah finally shuffled back down the length of Jae's arm she sucked in a sharp breath. "Your face! It's red! You have a fever!" Jae said, immediately jumping to conclusion. Anukah took flight, hovering above them while Jae went immediately to stand directly in front of Samuru. Reaching up with both hands she placed either hand on either side of his jaw line and cheeks. Pulling his head forcefully down to hers she touched her forehead to his own, having had this done to her when she was younger. That was the extent of Jae's medical training after all. She couldn't heal a scratch to save her life. "I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have played so dirty." Jae said, her worry clouding her previous nervousness to making physical contact with Samuru.

Keeping her hands in place she pulled her face away and looked up to Anukah who was hovering directly above them. "Do it now Anukah. Please." Anukah nodded, beating her wings more vigorously as she gained momentum. "It shouldn't take anything special. Just hold still." Jae nodded, watching in awe as the bird began to rain a sheer fog down on them. It slowly began to envelope their bodies from the tops of their heads all the way to their feet. In her shock she dropped her hands and placed them on her side, feeling an odd sensation focus around her bruised and swollen ribs. Lifting the hem of her shirt she carefully pulled it up so she could watch what happened. The dark coloration slowly began to speed up through the phases of a bruise. She had thought that she had seen all there was to see in the Shinobi world, apparently she was wrong.

Samuru gave her a quirky smile before looking to Anukah, opening his mouth to reply. Jae's voice, however, cut through his attention and he blinked, looking at her as she claimed he had a fever "Really? But I-" I don't feel bed, was what he was trying to say. Jae's hands, on his face, her face so close to his, it was like she'd kicked him in the gut. All the air went out of him, shock knocking the wind from him as well as sending a rush of urges racing through his body. She was so close, so near, he could feel the heat in her hands, the rush of her breath on his face and her hair crushed against his and into his forehead. All of his senses went on overload. Her touch, her smell, the sight of her, her voice, all of it was thrown into his brain in one huge jumble of emotion and need that he couldn't for the life of him sort out. As she pulled away to speak to Anukah, Samuru felt....no, he acted. Purely, rashly and without thinking. She was looking at her skin but he didn't see, his arms going out and around her shoulders, pulling her into his chest so tightly he could feel her heart against his ribs. It was so totally irrational, his mind shut down on what he was doing. He bent, his mouth and nose burying into her hair as he squeezed, feeling lightheaded but wonderful! He'd never hugged anyone before....not his mother, father or siblings. His eyes closed as he just.....breathed She's smaller....I thought she was bigger.... he thought, dazed, about the width of her shoulders. For him, Jae had always been a big person, someone who was stronger. And while she was stronger....she was also petite compared to him. He held her, unaware of his back healing, for....probably seconds but it felt longer. Then, horribly and abruptly, he came back to his senses. And Samuru pushed himself away from her so fast he fell to the ground, stumbling over his own feet to crash onto the river bank "I-! I'm sorry! S-s-sor- sorr-ry!" his stammering, gone for a while, rushed back as he covered his mouth with his hands, so shocked at what he'd done, he couldn't string a sentence together. And, adding to his horrible embarrassment, he felt tears come into his eyes. Oh boy. Yeah, this was a bit too much for him. Stay or flee? His entire body was tense, ready to run away the moment something, anything, brought him out of his shock. He'd reverted, fast, to the terrified boy Jae and her mother had treated almost a year ago. Shock could do that to a person, especially when they didn't understand what was going on.

Having been distracted by what was happening during their healing process she had no time to anticipate nor even fathom what would happen next. Her hands were positioned rather low so when a pair of strong arms engulfed her and pulled her into a vice like hug she had no real resistance in her. Samuru's warmth, his scent, his fast rhythmic, paced beating of his heart had her entranced. Her cheeks immediately turned a charming sort of red, her whole face seeming to suddenly burn. He was all around her, her face buried protectively in the folds of his chest. Her shock had her nerves firing on end until suddenly they were fried at the synapses. Her body shut down and with it so did her concentration. She shut off the channel that connected her to her summons and Anukah disappeared, healing them enough to where they would be alright but not as thoroughly as the bird would have liked. Jae's mind was lost in the clouds, nothing really concrete or adherent forming. It was just the feeling of his warmth all around her and the feeling of him holding her so tightly that not even the wisps of wind could get between their bodies.

Pushing her away abruptly, Jae flinched and took a shaky step back, stumbling herself as Samuru did so. Her eyes were wide and blank, her mind still not functioning properly yet. Jae lost even the concentration that was necessary to standing on water and fell thigh deep into the shallow water. The chill of it snapped her out of her daze as Samuru stumbled back onto the edge of the river's bank. His apologies were strung together quickly, nonsensical in their arrangement. "Th-. I mean, tha-." She was beyond flustered now in even her own response. Wading out of the water she moved to stand on the bank as well and took a shaky seat a few feet away from him in order to process her own thoughts and feelings? Sitting on her hip, she supported herself with her hands as she leaned to the side to hide her face. What the heck just happened?! That wasn't a friendly hug! That was beyond that! Or was it?! She couldn't look at him in the face immediately, unsure of what he would see. Her confusion, embarrassment, her fear. Being rejected was a harsh teacher, one that Jae had taken one year to process. If she was reading into this way too much or if it had just been mere impulse and she went as far as to take this seriously she would be devastated. "Why did you do that? Why did you h-h-hug me?" Turning to look at him now her gaze was as glossy as his own. The tears were pooling there at her tear ducts but the pink haired kunoichi refused to shed any.

He hadn't planned to hug her....and even though Jae wanted to know why, Samuru didn't know. He let his hands fall helplessly into his lap, not looking at her but instead staring at the ground between his knees. How could he tell her that he didn't know? That he didn't understand what had happened? Lifting his head, he saw her gaze and felt like he'd been struck. He'd hurt her, somehow, with what he'd done...and that more then anything destroyed what little composure he'd regained "I'm sorry...." he whispered, his gaze going back to the ground. He didn't know what else to say...He didn't know what to say. But he had a terrible feeling....."When...." the words came slowly, quietly "When you get really close....I.....get confused. My head....I get dizzy, like I have a fever. My body feels weird...and all I want to do is make you come closer." he kept his gaze on his hands, staring at them and trying to understand what all this meant. He thought about how he'd felt when the fight had almost started in the waiting room, how he'd felt when Noctis had come around ...."I don't want to let you go further then I can keep you with in reach...."

That was all she needed to know in order to understand why he had done what he did. Jae would never presume to understand anyone. People's minds and hearts never added up so it was something she did not impose upon but this involved her. She couldn't just brush it off and nor would she. This was Samuru she was talking about. "I don't want to let you go further then I can keep you with in reach...." Her cheeks turned a brighter shade of pink, her hair finally being matched by something else in hue. Obviously she reacted in turn to Samuru's unconscious advances. How did she feel about this? That was a good question. So many emotions were conflicting with her rational mind. They were friends, best friends. She knew more about him than most and likewise but Jae didn't know if he was feeling this way because she knew so much and because he hadn't yet made any real connections with other people yet. As much as she wanted to allow herself to delight in the possibility that something was happening, something was developing between them that harrowing fact stopped her short. "You don't have to apologize." Sitting rigidly still she stretched her legs out before her, reaching for her toes. She felt tense all over suddenly. "You are going through...a..um peculiar time period. You are a guy after all. You haven't really hung around other girls other than me, maybe your reaction would be the same and it's just a guy problem." Jae explained, her own explanation sounding very odd to her own ears. Her heart squeezed in turn. Was the fact that she was always seeking Samuru out, his company, his presence and attention an indicator that she had feelings for him? If what she said was true then she would be the biggest loser. She was looking out at the river now, the color in her cheeks slowly going away. These were sobering thoughts and they hurt. Jae didn't want to monopolize Samuru either. Not like the way his sister had tried to.

Samuru didn't look up as Jae told him not to apologize, feeling drained. He'd never had to be this.....emotional before! It was exhausting...but as Jae continued to speak....he wondered. Was it just something that guys went through? With no father to explain, he didn't know....maybe it was true. But he hadn't felt anything when he was fighting Bellatrix. She was his age, strong, admittedly attractive by Jae's standards....but nothing. She had been just female. Maybe...he didn't want to hang around other girls. Jae was his best friend, his companion....hell, she was pretty much his entire world. He couldn't imagine a world were she wasn't with him and he didn't know how he'd survived when she hadn't been near. In fact, he hadn't really survived. He'd lived off hate and the desire for revenge. Jae...."..." "No, that's not true." that's what he wanted to say. But, looking at Jae, he felt like saying it would break them both. If Samuru admitted he cared about Jae in this strange way...and she couldn't accept it...he had an image, a horrible image, of him walking one way and her the other, passing each other without a word. His hands tightened into fists...his hands shook and he looked back down at them, his very being seeming to collapse as he struggled to say something, anything. This hurt....this hurt so much more then anything beating, any slurred abuse, any hatred "...why?"
