Name: Wohali Usti
Gender: Male
Breed: Regular
Herd: Kawani Village Herd
Rank: Chief?

Parents: ??? x ???
Siblings: ???
Mate: ??? (implied Uniangeni heritage)
Children: Donehogawa and a lost daughter

Height: 17hh
Accent?: None
Personality and Backstory:
Quote:
Wohali is a fiercely proud and independent stallion...though some of the things he takes pride in are the silliest things. Like his collection of eagle feathers he went out of his way to collect as a colt. Or the fact that his first tattoo was an accident twice over, because he'd followed a hunt he wasn't supposed to, and because the tattoo was meant for another Soquili, it's just that it was misaimed. Underneath the bravado and pride, he's loving, a family stallion, ready and willing to protect everything that's important to him. Including the eagle feathers.

Quote:
Wohali saw the lightning crash down. He didn't move as the child braiding eagle feathers into his mane continued working. The child's fingers tensed, but he held still, hoping to not scare the child.

Thunder growled within seconds afterward. The child stopped, clutching at his mane. Wohali nudged the child onto his back and rose up, watching the lightning. His ears swiveled around, uncertain. The child's father, Wohali's two-legger, came up beside the stallion and rubbed his ears, eyes glued anxiously to the skies. Some of the younger children of the village, who'd been tagging at the adult two-legger's heels, hoping for a chance to ride Wohali, huddled closer, made nervous by the growing storm.

The next spear struck the dry grass. Like tinder, the parched prairie caught fire. Wohali half-reared, surprised. But his two-legger was tugging on his mane. "Get the children out of here!" he said, scooping up the elder children onto the tall stallion's back, and the smaller onto a nearby travois he quickly rigged to Wohali. Without even a slap on the rump, Wohali booked it, his hooves pounding on the dry ground. The children cried out and hung on. Meanwhile, he glimpsed his two-legger and other adults hurrying to the animal pens. A weight shifted over his heart, and then lifted. His family. They might not be able to get out of the pens and escape. But the two-leggers would help. HIS two-legger would help.

Wohali left the children on the river bank outside the village. He knew the children couldn't really talk to him, but he spoke, anyway. "Stay here. If the fire gets too close, get in the river." He added in nudges to indicate that they should stay by the river. With that, he charged back toward the village.

Finding the first baskets he could, he dashed back to the river, filled them, and charged back to the two-leggers who were fighting the fire. On the way, he glimpsed other Soquili. Some were doing their best to help. Others were running for it. Wohali ignored those who were too scared to fight. After all, to live with pride, he should do his best to fight the fire and save people.

It wasn't until after the fire that it occurred to him. He hadn't seen his lovely, brilliant lifemate come out of the village. Or his two-legger.

Quote:
Wohali walked among the ashes. Most of the Soquili baskets had made it out OK, and one of the mothers said she'd seen his lifemate carrying the Soquili baskets out of the fire. The only child of his he could find, his young son, walked with him. The colt's mother and sister were still missing.

Regretfully, Wohali had to admit that his eagle feather collection was probably all gone. Well, except for those his two-legger's child had brought with when they escaped. But he still had his favorite feathers. And the eagle skull. But it was worth checking. Maybe his girls had grabbed the feathers and escaped?

They reached the teepee. Or where it had been before. Nosing through the rubble, Wohali and his son couldn't find any feathers. Just charred baskets, and lots of ashes. But no bones. They moved on.

Wohali nosed his son, who looked sad and scared and about to cry. "Hey, kiddo, it's OK. Maybe your mom and sister made it out OK?"

The colt sniffled and nodded as they continued to walk. Ahead of them, a group of two-leggers were burying some Soquili bones. Wohali didn't stop his son as he charged ahead with a cry. Wohali followed, refusing to break up. The colt needed him, and besides, the girls might not be dead.

But in the uncovered graves, he saw it. A flash of familiar jewelry. Pushing the two-leggers aside, he nosed through and saw them. The jewelry of his daughter and lifemate.

Tears clouded his red eyes, and his son buried his face in his father's legs to cry. Wohali stared, feeling his proud heart die a little.

His little princess, gone. A little adventuress, always running and playing and skipping about.

His beautiful lifemate, who'd called him her handsome goofball, gone. A wildborn Soquili who'd never been completely happy in the village.

His two-legger, gone. A partner and a friend on any hunting trip.

His home, gone. The place where he'd lived all his life with his family and the two-leggers of the village.

All he had left were his son and the other survivors. A foal who wasn't ready to face the world without the love of his dear ones around him. Wohali made a promise to himself as he curled around his little colt, nuzzling him as they both cried. They would build a new life together. He'd raise his two-legger's child and his own so they wouldn't miss their lost parents. They'd live on, build life anew. But they'd never forget what they'd lost, and the courage displayed by the survivors of the fire.

Where we pick up Wohali's story is his work to reforge the Kawani Village Herd, as one of its chiefs.

Name: Mizuki Selene
Gender: Female
Breed: Mutant Hippogryph cross
Herd: Carousel of Night and Day (formerly?)
Rank: Unknown

Parents: ??? x ???
Siblings: ???
Mate: ???
Children: ???

Height: 14.2hh
Accent?: Faint and wobbling across
Personality and Backstory: At this juncture, very little is known of Mizuki Selene, one of the Soquili of the Carousel of Night and Day, but it is thought that she may rank quite highly. But this is, as of yet, pure speculation based on her dignity and bearing. It is not clear, either, whether she was of the day or of the night; on the one hand, she's colored darkly, and has the full clawed feet one might expect of the protectors; on the other, she's very gracefully garbed, and has a flowing peacock's tail. Indications pertaining to the nature of the pole on her back suggest that it is a sort of blunt lance or mace she can use in addition to her claws as a form of defense against 'Walkers who might try to eat the herd.

Probably a Lady of the Night. In the sense of a Lady Knight of the Night.

Nothing is as yet known about how she came to be part of the Carousel, but she has thus far taken her role in the Carousel quite seriously.

Name: Leimomi
Gender: Female
Breed: Mutant Kelpi'suti
Herd: ???
Rank: ???

Parents: ??? x ???
Siblings: ???
Mate: ???
Children: ???

Height: 14hh
Accent?: None
Personality and Backstory: Raised on a coral reef with her twin sister, Leimomi feels very strongly about their home reef, with the tropical life bursting upon it. As a part 'Suti, Leimomi uses what little Wood magic she has to keep her reef thriving, encouraging the carefully controlled growth of algae and plankton that the reef needs to survive. When not caring for her reef, she spends a great deal of time practicing her singing, like any proper siren.

Leimomi and her twin come from a community of Soquili who call themselves Pokesoqs, speaking sometimes of a world of two-leggers who train creatures who live inside balls for various purposes. Having been born in the Soquili lands, Leimomi is unsure of the veracity of these legends. But she sticks to what she learned from her parents, who described themselves as a Trevenant and a Primarina. It seems implausible to Leimomi that she could fit into one of those Pokeballs, and she's quite happy living as a wild Pokesoq, caring for her home reef.

More recently, Leimomi has come across a strangely fluffy fox claiming to be an Eevee, a Pokefam, named Kaui, who's quite the jolly soul. Kaui has injected some much-needed levity into Leimomi's life, despite needing to spend most of her life along the shore. It's not too difficult, as she can always go hunting birds and bird eggs when she's hungry. She's learning to try various seaside fruits and fish.

Name: Piroska
Gender: Female
Breed: Mutant Seathi
Herd: ???
Rank: ???

Parents: ??? x ???
Siblings: ???
Mate: ???
Children: ???

Height: 9hh
Accent?: Faint and variable
Personality and Backstory: Piroska recently arose from previously uncharted waters. Unlike the rest of such marine Soquili, Piroska is what is colloquially known as a ghost, despite not being dead. She's just a bit translucent. Scarred and marked by the dangers of life in the deep, Piroska is a survivor, drifting with sleepy cheerfulness alongside her koi, Akane, who is ever the voice of caution and doubt.

In the deeper waters near the edge of the continental shelf, Piroska has made her living as a storyteller, specializing in horror and mythology. She frequently inserts herself into her tales, so it's difficult to say what her origins truly are, beyond that she's a creepy-looking Seathi mare who looks like someone already murdered her, who tells ghost stories to chill the blood. If anything, in Piroska's endeavors, Akane's mere presence adds to her chilling aura.

Name: Sadaf
Gender: Female
Breed: Nix-Seathi
Herd: ???
Rank: ???

Parents: ??? x ???
Siblings: ???
Mate: ???
Children: ???

Height: 9hh
Accent?: Faint, suspected to be primarily Middle Eastern
Personality and Backstory: Sadaf hails from far away, and generally isn't one to talk about her past. The present and the future are generally more important, especially as it pertains to whether someone comes to her, seeking treasures, be they quests of glory, or a little something special from the materials in her collection to make someone look a bit snazzier. If someone comes to her seeking something other than her services, Sadaf is less interested in sharing it, and whatever one hopes to gain from this little lady, one had better be prepared to pay a reasonable price for it. If someone cannot pay, Sadaf won't share; the deep is, after all, rarely so kind to those unprepared for some risk and hazard.

Sadaf grew up in the deeps far to the east with a fascination for treasure, jewels, and jewelry. While outwardly a material girl, she is swimming very quietly away from a dark past in a deep sea village where the only way out was through sacrifice and having enough prizes to escape the horrors. Scraping and saving from an early age, she paid dearly for her freedom, and chooses not to dwell on that past. All of whom she is, Sadaf owes to her childhood below the continental shelf, and who she shall be, she owes to what the deep has made her: a mysterious jeweller who knows all the great shipwrecks and caches of treasure, and will sell her wares and knowledge for the right price.

Name: Varduhi
Gender: Female
Breed: Mutant Regular
Herd: ???
Rank: ???

Parents: ??? x ???
Siblings: Jasinda (twin)
Mate: ???
Children: ???

Height: 14.5hh
Accent?: Eastern European
Personality and Backstory: Varduhi is a quiet one, quiet, and a survivor from a very broken home.

Varduhi and her twin Jasinda were born to a nomadic band of Soqs with wolf mutations. In a world where the features of predatory animals also belong to the dreaded Skinwalkers, the herd was frequently mistaken for a bunch of Skinwalkers and their spawn, regarded with suspicion at best, outright persecution at worst. In large part as a response to this horrible state of affairs, the social atmosphere of the herd turned toxic and damaging.

Varduhi and Jasinda escaped the herd together, wanting to be free of this darkness. However, not knowing how else to get by, they have turned to the only other living they know: fortune-telling, often dishonestly. At this point, nothing else matters to them, but survival. Varduhi, knowledgeable in the reading of omens and other tricks of fortune-telling, as well as the reading of social cues and body language of others, acts as the mystic. Jasinda is both financial brains of the operation, and the brawn, collecting fees for her twin's services, and protecting her from danger. While Jasinda has little to no qualms about the idea of Varduhi just straight up lying, Varduhi does take her craft rather more seriously. Varduhi may not believe in any magic behind what she does, but she prefers to use genuine talent and knowledge in what she does, rather than deception. This is not out of any feelings about deceit or being truthful to her customers, this is very much a craft thing.

Very occasionally, Varduhi gets things very right when she doesn't have a particularly good grasp on what she's seeing, and those are the times that unnerve the twins just a little bit.

Name: Donehogawa
Gender: Male
Breed: Uniangeni
Herd: Kawani Village Herd
Rank: ???

Parents: ??? x Wohali Usti
Siblings: A lost sister
Mate: ???
Children: None

Height: 16hh
Accent?: None
Personality and Backstory: Donehogawa is a sweet, gentle, caring, and compassionate young stallion, always there with a hug and a large shoulder to cry on. Being a Uniangeni with the gifts of neither hasn't bothered him much since he was a yearling, starting to develop a need to help others, but unable to fly or heal. He has, however, settled into being a good ear for those who need it, and someone with a talent for decorating others, whether it be hairstyling, jewelry, a tasteful bit of cloth, leather, or armor, etc. He's not very confident as a stylist, but believes that if you can feel confident about one part of yourself, you can go and face the world with a bit more courage and strength than you had before.

Donehogawa has known quite a bit of sorrow and love for one so young. When he was quite young, the Great Fire raged through the Kawani Lands. In the chaos, his mother and sister were lost, as was his father's two-legger, leaving him alone with a heartbroken father, his father's two-legger's very young daughter, and a young Native woman who volunteered to help raise both Donehogawa and Awinita. Shy and sad to begin with, he stayed close to his little half-horse, half-human family, and came more slowly into the courage to really explore the world around him than did other foals. Fortunately, at every step of the way, he's had a loving family to care for him and guide him, making him never feel lost and alone, if they could help it.
