Physical Description: Shen is on the short side for a man, standing at 5'8. He is well-built and broad-shouldered, even if age has caught up to him a bit, softening his stomach and adding wrinkles here and there. He has short cropped once brown, now salt and pepper hair and dark brown eyes, and he usually sports a short, well-kept beard. He always has a long, worn scarf that his grandmother made him around his neck and his skin is tanned from his life outdoors.

Personality: Shen is one of the most hard working people you will ever meet, both physically and mentally. He wakes up before the sun rises and goes to bed only once it has set, going all day as hard as he can. Now that he's getting older it's harder to keep up the pace, but he does his best and always sets high goals for himself to meet. His mind is his greatest asset, both in terms of intelligence and his sense of what is right and what is wrong. He will go out of his way to assist those that are not being treated fairly and will stand up to anyone that tries to overpower someone or abuse their higher rank.

Shen has incredibly high standards for himself and for those around him, sometimes too high, in fact. He can become quite discouraged if he doesn't meet the goals set for himself and it takes a lot of effort from those closest to him to get him to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It requires some time for him to get his mind back on track, but once he does he's good to go. He has a very black and white view of the world and will tell you when there is something he doesn't like whether or not it's going to hurt someone in some way. He lives by what he believes is right, even if it might not be what is truly right.

History: Shen was born to two High Reaches parents, his father a blue dragon rider and his mother a musician. He never showed any aptitude for music, so his father took him under his and his dragon's wing to show him the ways of a dragon rider. Shen seemed to be made to be a rider and it was no surprise when he joined the Candidates at 14. During his time in his classes Shen applied himself to everything, eager to prove he was the best. His intellect, attitude, and personality stood out to his teachers and the Candidatemaster, all of whom assumed he would Impress a bronze at some point. They were grooming him to be an eventual Wingleader at an early age, giving him extra training and more duties than some of the other Candidates, when everything came to a screeching halt as a blue dragon Impressed him. S'en, at first, was devastated. While it wasn't technically the lowest a man could Impress, it was almost as 'bad' as a green. He tried not to let his emotions project onto his dragon, but they certainly did and for a while he and Filagoth were at odds. The little dragon wanted nothing and everything to do with Shen, confused by the emotions that came from his One. S'en couldn't deny the bond was there and he was happy to have Impressed, yet so bitterly disappointed at the color.

It took a long time for him to come around to Filagoth. The attention from the teachers and Candidatemaster passed on to other students who were rising through the ranks, leaving them to be Wingriders and nothing more. S'en's father was proud as could be, glad that his son had Impressed at all, and it was through talking with him that S'en began to realize how thankful he really should be. There were Candidates that would never Impress at all and to have a dragon of his own was a blessing to be sure. It took a few months, but he and Filagoth finally found their connection and began to thrive as a partnership.

During his training was when S'en began to realize that the color of a dragon should have no bearing on whether or not they could rise to a position of leadership. Perhaps as high as S'en had been aiming originally, but if the right person and dragon teamed up together and proved that they could command the respect of both rider and dragon, then they should be able to advance in the ranks. It happened on occasion, certainly, but it was met with whispers and those that tried to usurp the chromatic dragons and their riders that got those promotions. It wasn't right.

After meeting Dalle, S'en quickly fell in love and ignored the feelings of discontent he still had with High Reaches. It wasn't until after he and Dalle wed that they returned full-force and stronger than ever as a very qualified green rider was denied a promotion and it was given instead to an extremely under qualified bronze rider, simply because of the color of his dragon. That was the last straw for S'en who told Dalle he had to leave. She agreed to come with him, of course, and together they set out of High Reaches for good. He removed the honorific from his name, returning to Shen to rid himself of memories of High Reaches.

To earn money Dalle and Shen began to pick up odd jobs that others in small villages and towns had. It turned out there was quite the demand for dragon riders to scout out new spots for grazing, for construction, to chase out wolves or other predators from farmland, and other bits and bobs. They had enough money to travel the continent and never be hungry which was enough for them. A few years later Dalle gave birth to a daughter whom they named Thalle, and together they became a happy adventuring family.

One of their jobs took them to a town not far from High Reaches, and it was at that time that Thalle was Searched by a bronze rider from the Weyr. Remembering her own past there, Shen spoke with his daughter about what to expect if she wished to become a Candidate, how the rules there were nothing like living out here, but at the same time how rewarding it was to have a dragon as a life long companion. It was with both pride and trepidation that he watched Thalle be flown away by M'aze and Zeath, but in the coming years it proved to be a wonderful decision. Thalle Impressed after about a year and she had taken a brown, which was unusual but still acceptable. Dalle keeps in touch with her daughter as they continue to travel and work, enjoying his freedom and hoping that their daughter will still have a fulfilling life.

During the Threadfall Shen and Dalle were faced with a rather difficult decision - to return to High Reaches or to remain rogue. Out here they couldn't help in protecting Pern from the Thread, but to return would mean living the life they both left willingly and eagerly. After it became clear that two more dragons wouldn't have made a difference in the Fall, they decided to remain explorers and continue to help those in need in other ways.
Other: Shen and Filagoth will never assist in Threadfall, but they will happily help those after it has passed in whatever way they can. Ages up OOCly on November 10th

Physical Description: Filagoth is fairly muscled and powerful in stature. His wings are on the shorter size in terms of wingspan, making him look much longer than he actually is. Overall he's average in terms of size, but without another dragon standing next to him he looks deceptively large. Filagoth is almost always moving, whether it's flicking his tail, tapping his claws, chewing on some bones, or pacing. He almost always has bones from a previous kill somewhere within easy access and can be seen with one hanging out of his mouth when not flying or exploring.
Personality: Filagoth is a curious and excitable boy, always on the lookout for a new adventure. His curiosity has gotten the better of him multiple times and he has the various scars to prove it decorating his hide. He doesn't let that dampen his spirits, though, and is quick to join Shen on the next grand venture. He leaps before he looks in many situations and is often scolded for diving in, but he takes it in stride. It takes quite a bit to bring this happy-go-lucky dragon down, but when he is feeling blue Taeth is always there to cheer him up. Although he's a bit reckless, Filagoth works well with Shen and they make a great team when it comes to adventures and discovering new things.
