Aurinkoth flew into a clutchsib's flames again because of course he would the little butt

She was going to get an earful about keeping her blue attentive while in Threadfall - and Aurinkoth was about to get a headfull of it too. Certainly, his constantly radiating cheer was fine - and his flame was perfectly fine. In fact, Ichta would say of all of his siblings, he had the nicest range for it.

Yet there they were, missing things again. Again. Not that she would put it all on Aurinkoth. She'd likely have been in an utter state of stress if he hadn't been on repeat - It's OK, It's OK, It's OK! See! It's OK! Even though she could feel the radiating pain from his burns - and even though as they turned on a dime to chase after another clump of silvery death they both headed towards the pathway of one of their blue brother's flames.

Aurinkoth quickly sent a surge of reassurance to his rider. This was OK! Getting burned by fire was less disastrous than Thread after all! And they'd both get patched up real easily at the end of the day.

But she still felt like it was something to work on. Sigh

R'am of Green Lemath

Once again neither had been paying attention as they watched Aurinkoth once more fly directly into fire. It was enough of a distraction to make Lemath miss her mark on the center, sending thread past them once more to hit Lemath straight on a wing. She cried out in pain but it was quickly disloged.

This was her last round anyway. It was really time to head back. Lemath was getting so tired, feeling it sharply through their mental link. "Hey Lemath, you're doing well!"

Yeah! I ...did some things and I got hurt, but! I like this! I like this a lot!

Menankith couldn't help but seethe over being aided by Aresoth, of all his siblings; it was a deeper wound to his pride than a score to his hide would have been. The initial score he'd taken was a minor sting, to him at least, from where the edge of the clump had brushed his back. Nadry and her flight jacket had taken the brunt of that hit, against her shoulder and down her back - thank Faranth for the thick hide, which had bought them time to flash between and shed the silvery menace before it did serious damage. Not that there hadn't been any damage at all, but it didn't seem serious, at least not in the moment. Once adrenaline faded and the pain kicked in, well...

Let's just not get hit again, she suggested, doing her best to ignore anything but the task at hand. They couldn't let themselves be distracted by injuries, physical or otherwise, not when they had a job to do, and distractions could cost them.

Back on track, Menankith triumphantly seared a clump of thread from the sky. Take that! No...wait! He spotted a stray strand and flamed again, but- No! A familiar blue form swooped too close. Macuith!

14: Burn a stray clump of thread, 0 damage

Zenobiath felt pride swelling in her chest. Her siblings were doing so well, and she sent a wave of reassurance to all of her clutchmates. The golden pair were moving around with the Queen's wing, and she had her eyes out, watching what was going on, and catching a few stray clumps of thread. They were tired, true. but there was work to be done.

Saving roll on Aurinkoth!

Up in the air greens and blues twirled on tired, tired wings. The fear they'd felt at the start of the threadfall was mostly gone, replaced by determination and exhaustion. All had felt thread's biting sting today, but soon they'd be done, be able to return to the ground and recuperate with their siblings. It had been a painful day, but not the worst.

At least, not yet.

Diving swiftly after a clump of thread, two blues that had been nearly wing-to-wing the entire time finally split formation as the threads untangled, falling into a wider spray of the silver threads. Other siblings converged, and the larger of the two blues' eyes went wide as one, Aurinkoth darted right into his flame's path! Watch out...! The blue's warning abruptly cut off with a squeal of alarm. And over that alarm came the shriek of a dragon in pain.

The smaller of the two blues had scorched a huge chunk of the thread, but then a strong gust tipped him, wing-over-wing, sending him into one of the remaining clumps...back first. Rider first. The pair hung midair, wrapped with the writhing silver threads for just a moment before winking between, a cry of despair and anguish cutting short as they vanished. One breath. Two breaths. Three breaths.

Four breaths.

Five.

The blue that had nearly burned Aurinkoth faltered, his eyes, already white with fear, grew duller, gray with stark grief, and he let slip a wailing, keening cry for their brother, who had not, would not return.

Despite Begath's good cheer, Jynnat could feel him starting to tremble as muscles protested and flag as his energy dropped. His breathing was becoming ragged too. She patted his soft shoulder, glide on the turn and catch your breath. She was so proud of her blue. How much time had passed? It really didn't seem like that long. Jynnat was surprised by the jump in the angle of the sun when she looked. Has it really been only two to three hours?

Yes it has. The dragon confirmed as he heard the unintended thought. Which explained why he was so shafted tired now. She nodded with sympathy. All she had to do was hang on while he did pretty much all the work. If you hadn't done all those fancy moves, you wouldn't be this tired already. If he hadn't done them though, he wouldn't be Begath! Her lips quirked as she knew what he was thinking, but didn't crack into a grin lest she get ash in her mouth.

She saw a large tangle fall and several dragon converge on it. One almost got flamed for his efforts. Jynnat had looked away when she heard the cry. When she looked back, the rider was a tangle of thread mass. She held her breath as they hung there, then vanished. She doubted they'd be returning to the fight, and would probably head toward the weyr for healing. Moments passed and no news. Then one by one the dragons started keening, and Begath took up the cry. Gone? They were gone? Tears pricked her eyes that she was unable to wipe away due to the goggles she wore. So soon.

Quickly enough the pair was back into the fray with Begath gallantly holding his place. She knew they weren't going to last much longer. Begath needed to rest soon. Until then they would keep fighting! Her beautiful blue pumped his wings to rise up and meet a clump of thread, roaring as he flamed it completely. He turned his head back for another piece of stone and chewed. Just has he turned back, though he spotted a stray clump. They were at the wrong angle to meet it and Begath twisted to duck under and let a pair behind him catch it.

He felt a sudden gust of wind catch under his wings, driving them up toward the silvery tumbling mass. Jynnatmine watch out! Begath desperately tried to spill the air from his wings, but it was no use. Jynnat screamed as the thread dropped across her back and right arm. Begath gave a bugle of distress as he took them between.

One......................
Two......................
Three....................

Had another blue been lost?

We are alright and at the weyr! Begath's voice cut in to reassure any who might have worried. Aviroth, mine has been hurt badly. He would not be returning to the fight today.

The squeal of alarm cut off the little blue's attention, killing off any apology - or expressed gratitude - for nearly flying into his brother's flame. Ichta barely had a moment to grasp that they'd been left flame-free as Aurinkoth caught sight of what was happening.

And there was no sunshine in his heart that could even sugar coat this. White and grey whirled into eyes that had never seen such colors, and the light blue's keening cry joined his brother's.

All bright cheer that supported Ichta from her nervous ways fell out from underneath her in an instant. Before then, she'd never even realized how much she had come to rely on it. But now? They'd been warned that not everybody would make it to their graduation. And Ichta had to force herself to bull up her emotional bootstraps for the both of them.

And to focus. If nothing, her good work ethic would get them back home safely.

HP: 3/6

The blue pair were sporting a few wounds, but both rider and dragon tried to stay focused. His blue seemed to work through the pain, and the immediate danger surrounding all of them meant he was better able to focus. They were okay. They were fine. Flame by flame, breath by breath. Still, as the fight wore on, C'lusi could feel his blue's exhaustion. Certain maneuvers made his chest, shoulder, and neck ache as he'd aggravate the earlier Threadscore. Furthermore, fighting the wind and the countless needed acrobatics meant that he could feel his blue's exhaustion through their link.

You've got this, Mac! He encouraged.

The blue tried to puff out his chest, and certainly tried to find a second wind. He was too cool to be tired. Too cool to hurt. They were endlessly bad-a**, and were going to show--

Whoops!

Unfortunately, the blue's exhaustion caused him to miss the change in formation. I'm on it!! He called out, mostly to himself, as he immediately dove to catch the thread that he had missed. He was too cool for sloppy mistakes.... yep. He'd make up for it, and none would be the wiser for - - -

Bright flame, and a startled squeal of surprise. The blue jolted back even as Menankith's flame hit his flank, disappearing into the depths of Between to avoid the worst of it. Popping back out, a bit more crisp than he had been earlier, the blue swooped back up into position.

I always knew you were hot, Menankith. Nice to have more proof! He complimented, laughter in his words, hiding the pain. It had been their mistake anyway. Both the blue and his rider were frustrated with their mistake -- mistakes like that shouldn't have happened. They should have remembered to check their wingspace, should have been on point to have caught that Thread at the start, instead of wildly chasing it. This is how wingmates got hurt. This is how wingmates died.

It's okay. We just gotta focus. Ah, but a new squeal, a new scream of pain, caused both rider and dragon to startle. A bit singed, but numbweed would come later. His poor blue had started off pretty well, but was kind of banged up... but that was fine.

They were fine. Would be fine.

Focus. Unfortunately it was when he felt the sudden pain lurch through Macuith, and heard the keening of his blue, that he realized their fellow blue rider had been lost. He hadn't witnessed the event -- had heard a scream, but that was normal up here -- so the loss caught both rider and dragon off guard. The physical pain of their injuries didn't come close to the heart-wrenching grief that welled up within the blue. One of his fellow brothers, one of his fellow fighters, one of his friends -- now lost, never to be seen again.

But true grief would have to wait. For now, all they could do was fight on.

Dr'stan & Green Cynosuth

Round: 3
Roll: 1
HP: 6/6

14 – 16. Your blood is up, and you're scared as can be, but it feels really good to see thread crumble to your flame. You spy a stray clump and blast it to dust!

There!

With Dr'stan's direction, Cynosuth swerved again, warbling in gratitude to her sister, Monath. The pair glided away from the dangerous tangle as it was being well charred. However, the next moments seemed to bring time to a stand still.

As the little Green watched in horror, her Blue brother flew between... and did not return. Letting out a keen of agony, and unbearable grief, Cynosuth observed the thread with red swirled white eyes. That thing had taken her brother, and he would never return!

In anger and pain, Cynosuth belched a hot burst of flame, a hitherto unknown ferocity filling her hearts. How dare it take him?! She let out a bugle of defiance, and flamed... and flamed... and flamed. The strands did not stop falling, and she did not relent, although she had only caught the one clump.

They were nearly done, nearly through. V'tre's arms were so tired from tossing the heavy bags of stone, but he kept at it. Sadly, the one he left fly this time fell short, plummeting back to the ground. And just as Thanoth had been about to quip something funny to buck him up, a cry rent the air. And sadness wasn't something Thanoth or V'tre were really familiar with. The green joked endlessly that they were all going to die to thread one day...but now it had actually happened.

The green flew on in silence, not even she felt like cracking wise as her keen joined the rest of her siblings' for their lost brother.

The bronze pair moved back into formation easily after slinging the sacks of firestone up to the higher wings. This was their element, they were doing better, doing wonderfully. Everything was going well for their first threadfall, no one had fallen.

Of course everything could change so quickly when fighting thread. They were getting ready to flame thread when C'ryn's eyes caught the blue's rider that got caught in it. He felt his breath hitch in his throat, feeling Aresoth turning his attention to his blue brother when he heard the scream. Then they were gone. A shift of the wings, Aresoth was moving himself closer to where they would have been appearing but...nothing. N=no...nononono... Aresoth, pay attention. No! They are gone! I couldn't....I should have...

His attention focused inwardly, ignoring the words C'ryn was trying to speak to him, to calm him, Aresoth didn't notice the thread that was coming dangerously close to him. He was lucky Elzebuth had seen it and had enough sense to flame it, but the shifting winds that had caught the blue and thrown him and his rider into thread caught Elzebuth's flame.

Heat was the first thing C'ryn felt, his hands rising to start hitting against what was licking up his arm. Aresoth registered the heat and the beginning of pain and quickly went between. It wasn't long before the two reappeared, the flames out but the right arm of C'ryn's jacket was no good anymore. It would have to do until Threadfall was over, he couldn't stop and get a wardrobe change.

There was an anger, a want to snap at Elzebuth for endangering his rider but C'ryn shut that down, pointing out what Elzebuth had saved them from. Elzebuth....Thank you, brother. They may be rivals, they may not get along, but he was grateful that C'ryn only have slight burns, that he only have slight burns, then have gotten thread.

C'ryn nodded his head at G'ran before he turned his focus back on Aresoth, working on getting the bronze to focus again. We have to focus Aresoth. They are gone, but there are others still here. We can't lapse. We have to stay strong.
