Homosexual - Claimed by Barnaby Brooks Jr. "Bunny-Chan" ((Barnaby owned by Songstress Kitsune))
TvTropes Info -
Kotetsu T. Kaburagi (Wild Tiger)

Voiced by: Hiroaki Hirata (JP), Wally Wingert (EN)
Affiliation: TopMag (former) / Apollon Media (current)
Suit Advertisements: S.H. Figurarts (Japanese toy line) / Softbank (Japanese media company).
The primary protagonist and a veteran NEXT past his prime, whose total disregard for property damage when fighting earned him the nickname "Crusher for Justice". Currently he is the least popular hero in Sternbild City and his old company, TopMag has been taken over by Apollon Media, which is now forcing him to become Barnaby's partner against his will. He has a daughter, Kaede, who, like most people in the city, is unaware of his secret identity. He possesses the power to increase his physical abilities hundredfold for 5 minutes.
Adorkable
Adult Child: Less mature than Barnaby despite being several years his senior, to the point of arguing with kids who don't like his trading cards.
Adult Fear: He was a little too slow and would've lost Kaede had it not been for Barnaby.
Also, he gets another one in the second half of the show: the possibility of having a rare, progressive condition that will force him to give up doing what he loves.
All a Part of The Job: A perfect embodiment of this trope.
Alliterative Name
Animal Motif: Guess...
Animal Themed Superbeing
Ascended Fanboy: Of Mr. Legend, Sternbild's first superhero.
Asskicking Pose: Kotetsu's pose◊ in Episode 21 is impressive enough to warrant a Triple Take.
Batman Gambit: Gives Barnaby an ultrasonic grenade to counter Jake's "super-hearing". Turns out it was a flash bang, and by not telling Barnaby, he managed to get around Jake's telepathy.
Badass
Badass Beard: And a pretty stylish one at that! Kaede thinks it's stupid, though.
Badass Normal: Even without using his Hundred Power, the combination of being in physical shape good enough to make professional athletes look lethargic, years of crimefighting experience, and very efficient wires that allow him to Building Swing means Kotetsu is pretty badass in his normal state. At the end of the series he's mostly this, as his power has dwindled to only a minute an hour.
Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: For a bumbling klutz with a near-endless supply of bad ideas, he's a surprisingly competent hero and one of the best of the Sternbild crowd at fighting unpowered.
Papa Wolf: Do not put his daughter in danger.
Bandage Babe: Twice so far he has lost his shirt in favor of covering up his upper body in bandages.
Big Heroic Run: In Episode 14. It didn't exactly go as planned, thanks to his powers deciding to fluctuate at the time.
Berserk Button: Show some disregard for human life — be it murder or speaking ill of the dead — and he'll make you pay dearly.
Big Brother Mentor: Plays this role where Karina, Ivan, Pao-Lin and (eventually) Barnaby are concerned.
The Confidant: Eventually becomes the only person Barnaby seems to be comfortable with, or even capable of, confiding in. Pao-Lin, Ivan and Karina also seem to be more open with him than with the other heroes.
Break Out The Museum Piece: In episode 21, he receives his original costume from Ben and wears it when he calls out the heroes at the end.
Brought Down to Badass: He's still quite competent even with the gradual loss of his powers.
Broken Pedestal: When he discovers that Mr. Legend started to lose his powers at the end of his career, and that Hero TV started to fix arrests so that he would continue to earn publicity. However, he still doesn't know the depths to which his role model fell...
Brown Eyes: Though they occasionally look like Eyes of Gold.
Bumbling Dad: Played very straight.
Butt Monkey
Cannot Spit It Out: That he's losing his powers, and plans to retire from being a superhero. He does come close a couple of times, but gets interrupted by Barnaby both times. Similarly, revealing his identity to his daughter would probably have improved their relationship significantly.
The Cape: Aspires to be this, albeit with questionable success.
Chest Insignia: On his original costume it was his original company's name, TopMag, and although not on his chest but on his mask, a W with a T in it. He also has a small tiger insignia on his belt buckle on his original costume; his current suit has the same small tiger insignia on the chest.
Chronic Hero Syndrome: Suffers from this a good deal.
Clark Kenting: Kotetsu's means of hiding his identity out of his Powered Armor is to throw a Domino Mask in with his Limited Wardrobe.
Clear My Name: Made all the more difficult by the fact that he just got unpersoned.
Coat, Hat, Mask: In his civilian clothes.
Color-Coded Secret Identity
Comes Great Responsibility: Adheres to this ideal, which is why he didn't use his powers in his fight against Antonio when they first met.
Antonio: "I just want to know one thing — Why did you hide that you were a NEXT? You could have used those powers against me."
Kotetsu: "Because I only want to use my powers to save people."
Cool Loser: He has a super-cool robot suit, an ability beyond the ken of mortal men, not bad on the eyes, and saves people on a regular basis... but children, Barnaby and his sponsors show him no respect.
This does get better in the second cour as he has a considerably better relationship with Barnaby and has risen up in the rankings and popularity.
Destructive Savior: ...And fully advocates people following the same path.
Determinator: Kotetsu won't stop until justice is served. Highlighted in Episode 13 when he uses his "Hundred Power" to heal superficial wounds but the internal injuries are still pretty bad. He still fights through the pain to help Barnaby against Jake. Another example comes in the epilogue, where he comes out of retirement despite his Hundred Power dwindling down to 60 seconds, saying he plans to keep being a hero even if he loses it completely because he's there to help people.
Doesn't Like Guns: Specifically he won't use one if there are people around, including criminals, that could get caught in the crossfire. However, as demonstrated when the heroes were fighting Ouroboros mechs, he's got no problem using one of the disabled mech's guns to take them out once he discovers they are unmanned.
Domino Mask: Wears one while on duty, whether he's in his suit or not.
Dork Knight: more Dork than Knight, though.
Dude, Where's My Respect?: Pre-Time Skip, at least. This becomes glaringly obvious in episode 13, when all the citizens of Sternbild (including the other heroes, who knew full well the role Kotetsu played in their victory) praise Barnaby for saving the day... ignoring Kotetsu completely. Lampshaded when Barnaby notices Kotetsu's expression and teases him for wanting praise.
Post-Time Skip he's risen to fourth-place in the Hero Rankings, gets treated nicer by Alexander, and is even getting along with Barnaby.
Doting Parent: To Kaede, doubling as Parents as People.
Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Hundred Power enhances every physical ability by a factor of, quite obviously, one hundred.
Expressive Mask: The domino mask moves with his eyebrows.
Fatal Flaw: Kotetsu has a noted habit of keeping secrets in a misguided attempt to not worry people.
The Fool
Fearless Fool: Most of the time. But he also has his fears.
Form-Fitting Wardrobe: When in casual clothing.
A Friend in Need
Friend To All Children
Gadget Watches: In civilian clothing, he has one that also serves as a Grappling-Hook Pistol.
Giving Someone the Pointer Finger: His default heroic pose.
Grappling-Hook Pistol: Has them in both his original TopMag and Apollon Media suit.
Healing Factor: Played with in Episode 13. His natural healing rate is one of the physical attributes affected by his powers, but even if you increase your regenerative speed by a hundredfold, there's only so much you can do in five minutes.
The Heart
The Messiah: Shows signs of this. He wants to do good and is genuinely upset upon failing to save lives, criminal or not.
The Paragon: Alternates between this and The Messiah.
Hero Protagonist
He's Got Legs: As has been pointed out in magazines◊*, his legs are pretty darn long. How much so? They're about three inches longer than Barnaby's, despite Kotetsu being two inches shorter.
Heterosexual Life Partner + Living Emotional Crutch + Only Friend: To Barnaby.
Hot Blooded: Passion is his highest stat — literally◊.
Hot Dad
Hour of Power: Limited to five minutes per hour.
As of Episode 14, his powers have been going on the fritz. Ben says they're likely disappearing. In Episode 16, his journal reveals the rapid decline of his power's duration at a rate of 2-5 seconds per use.
And by the end of the series, it climbs down to a minute.
Humble Hero: Very much so; in particular this stands out strongly among his fellow heroes.
"I’m a hero because I want to save people. Isn’t that enough? It really doesn’t matter if anyone acknowledges me or not."
I Am Not Left-Handed: In their high school days Kotetsu fought Antonio to a standstill without using his powers. It's not until Tomoe was in danger when he activated it. Needless to say, Antonio was rather shocked.
I Didn't Tell You Because You'd Be Unhappy: The reason why he Cannot Spit It Out
Idiot Hero
The Klutz: Only Kotetsu could accidentally kick a pen into a highway right in front of a passing car while trying to pick it up.
The Last DJ: A staunch proponent of good old-fashioned super-heroics in an age of ad-funded glitz.
Lightning Bruiser: Only when his Hundered Power is activated.
Limited Wardrobe
Made of Iron: He is very resilient, even without his powers.
Ma'am Shock: Not fond of being reminded that he's "old" by the standards of the superhero business.
Mr. Fanservice
Mysterious Middle Initial: What makes it even more mysterious is the fact that it's the only English letter in his entire name.
Nice Hat
Not Quite Flight
Obfuscating Stupidity: Episode 13 — out of all the heroes, he's the only one who manages to figure out Jake's second superpower, and manages to pull off a Batman Gambit to defeat Jake as well.
The manga oneshot shows that he actively encourages his reputation as an incompetent fool on occasion (i.e., telling everyone he was late to work because of a hangover when he was actually rushing a woman to the hospital). Word Of God says he does it keep people from bothering with him (and thus not worry about him).
Oblivious to Love: Completely — at least when it comes to Karina.
Karina: "Listen... Uh... I'm going to treasure this forever!"
* Karina runs off, blushing to the roots of her hair*
Kotetsu: "...What's up with her?"
Word Of God says he's like this with just about everyone attracted to him. His own seiyuu isn't sure how he managed to reproduce.
Odd Couple: With Barnaby.
Older Sidekick: He's being billed as this in-series.
Overshadowed by Awesome: Far cooler than your average non-superpowered person. Unfortunately for him, he's not being compared to normal people most of the time.
Powered Armor: His Apollon Media suit ensures that even without tapping into his powers, he's still inhumanly strong and durable - it even lets him hold a car in place when it's falling off a bridge.
Red Eyes, Take Warning: When his powers start going haywire in Episode 14.
Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Barnaby's blue, but in-series the suit he originally wore was blue.
Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: "Badabadabadabadabadabada..."◊
Meeeep. Meee-meeeep. Meep. Meep. Meep.◊
BYAAAAA BYUUUUU BYAAAAAAA
Screw the Money, I Have Rules!
Shirtless Scenes: quite a few...
In episode 9, with his shoulder bandaged, holding a wine glass. In Barnaby's flat.
Another in episode 13, in a hospital, with bandages.
Episode 25 (and the end of ep 24), he takes a hit that destroys most of his armor and produces a tear in the suit he wears under it, conspicuously revealing his abs..
Shonen Hair
Stealth Pun: His eyes are the color of a Tiger's Eye stone.
Super Strength
Super Speed
Superhero Sobriquets: The Crusher of Justice.
Superheroes Wear Capes: His original costume.
Team Mom: With debatable levels of success. He even tries to makes sure that Barnaby eats properly, much to the latter's annoyance.
Though he was more successful when Ivan blamed himself for his friend Edward's descent into villainy.
Tears of Joy: Cries them in episode 23 when Barnaby finally remembers him.
10-Minute Retirement: Leaves the Hero business after the fight with Maverick, only to come out of retirement later because Kaede told him to find something to do besides sit around the house all day.
Technician Versus Performer: The Performer.
They're Called Personal Issues for a Reason: Once he learns of Barnaby's past, he makes a point about not prying into the whys and wherefores. This is not due to coldness, but because he knows (possibly from personal experience) that some things are best left as someone's own cross to carry.
There Was a Door: Kotetsu takes the most direct route when someone's life is at stake, walls be damned.
Throw the Dog a Bone: There are times when he does get recognition — the students at the Hero Academy, for instance, worship the ground he walks on.
Trademark Favorite Food: Mayonnaise... on everything.
According to Anju, a disproportionate number of his meals consist of fried rice. He likes it enough that he's never bothered to learn how to cook anything else.
Tsundere Magnet: All those who have affection for Kotetsu have shown Tsundere tendencies — Tomoe, Karina and even Barnaby.
Clueless Tsundere Magnet: It took a good deal of effort for Tomoe and Barnaby to get him to realize they were fond of him (while Karina has had no such luck). Word Of God confirms that he's usually completely oblivious to when women are hitting on him.
Unflinching Walk: In episode 17.
Unperson: Finds himself as one in episode 20.
Vague Age: Any questions about Kotetsu's actual age are met with vague or contradictory answers by the staff and creators. The only confirmed, consistent information is that he's somewhere in his thirties.
Waistcoat of Style
Warrior Therapist: When the show started, three heroes among the eight weren't believing in themselves and/or in heroism as a value. Kotetsu made sure it wouldn't continuing. The final episode show how his actions and words changed them. Before, they were working separately, except for few exceptions when Hero TV asked them to. At the end, they willingly cooperate together to catch criminals, barely thinking of fame, ranks and points.
"Well Done, Partner" Guy: In the latter half of the series he becomes this in Barnaby's eyes.
Barnaby: There's one man I feel I can never compare to, and my only wish is to become someone worthy of his trust.
Interestingly, he's both the "Father" in the straight example to Barnaby and the "Son" example to his own daughter in an inversion - one of his main wishes is that his daughter thinks he is cool. She eventually does.
When You Coming Home, Dad?: Superheroing really does take its toll on his relationship with his daughter.
Wide-Eyed Idealist: Less concerned with sponsorship money, more concerned with saving people. Naturally, this is not a good attitude to have in Sternbild.
Widower Hero: His wife Tomoe passed away from an illness five years prior to the beginning of the series.
Workaholic: Lloyd actually has to order him to use some of his vacation days.
Of course, considering what happens when he does...
Yank the Dog's Chain: He finally starts getting some respect from his partner, climbs up in the rankings and the population doesn't consider him a joke anymore, then he starts losing his powers.

TvTropes Info -
Private Leonard L. Church
"There's a very fine line between not listening and not caring. I like to think I walk that line every day."
The closest the series has to a proper protagonist, Blue Team's de facto leader (though if Sister's story about promotion is applied to the Blues it should have been delivered to, it's possible Church is now on record as Captain, making him the actual leader), Only Sane Man, Deadpan Snarker, and world champion Jerkass, although he has a a nicer side. Church is a neurotic and almost perpetually angry individual who barely gets along with his teammates. He's killed in a friendly fire incident very early in the series, but quickly returns as a ghost, and later possesses a robotic body. Despite wielding a sniper rifle and acting as the team's designated marksman, he is an awful shot, often emptying an entire clip without hitting anything (in one incident, from two feet away from his target). He wears light blue/cobalt armor, though in "ghost" form his armor is white (and transparent).
Reconstruction offered some surprising character development that explained Church's ability to survive death and possess people: he is actually the remains of the Alpha AI, and the Alpha was based on the mind of Freelancer's Director. Church vehemently insists he's a ghost, not an AI, but was nonetheless willing to work with Agent Washington to fight the Meta, culminating in his erasure by an EMP at the end of the season.
In Recreation and Revelation, Church is "resurrected" in the form of Epsilon. At first a mere shell of his former self, he slowly begins to reassemble his personality, as he tries to reunite with Tex. In the process, he mellows out considerably before trapping himself inside a broken memory unit to try and save Tex. Inside, he begins to relive the Alpha's memories of Blood Gulch, reconciling with his past, and realizing that despite the low points, his life was pretty good.
In Season 9, he attempts to reconcile his relationship with Tex before the memory unit fails and both he and the simulation are destroyed. In the end, he succeeds in resolving his issues with Tex by letting himself let go of her memory, and resigns himself to death... just in time to be rescued from the memory unit by the united Reds, Blues, and Agent Carolina.
Played by Burnie Burns
Associated Tropes:
Anti-Hero: On the Sliding Scale of Anti-Heroes, he starts as a Type I and later develops into a Type III.
Badass Boast:
"I am not a thing! My name is Leonard Church, and YOU WILL FEAR MY LASERFACE!!!"
Alternatively, there's his simple "Hi there!" to the Meta. And "When it goes off, I'll be fine. It only affects computers, remember? And I am a ********' ghost."
Berserk Button: Of which he has many.
Body Surf
Cosmic Plaything: The universe rarely gives him a break. When given an opportunity to Set Right What Once Went Wrong, he winds up responsible for killing himself, Sheila and Lopez staging a robot revolution and shooting Tucker with the rocket launcher. And that's not even getting into the fact he's the broken remains of a once-powerful AI, he's lost his girlfriend more than once, gets trapped in the capture unit, and isn't released until he lets go of said girlfriend, losing her quite possibly forever. Dude, Church's life sucks.
It is very possible that his time travel adventure was just Gamma's deception to make him suffer. According to Tex, both Gamma and Omega had taken to torturing Alpha in the past.
Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Well he is a fragment of a super intelligent AI.
And to be fair, he's not really a moron. Just incompetent and neurotic.
The Determinator: As inept as he can be, you have to give Church credit for trying sometimes.
Dogged Nice Guy: While Alpha is rude to Tex, Epsilon is very nice to her, even when she betrays him multiple times.
Alpha did have his moments with her, though.
The Fatalist: After failing to alter the timeline, he decides that everything is set in stone, but that one should make the best of it. "So quit your bitchin', Nancy."
A God Am I: After Epsilon is uploaded into a Monitor body, he starts acting like this, though in a comedic way.
The Hero: Desperately wants to be this. The universe thwarts his attempts at every corner, but in Reconstruction, he's finally able to pull off one genuine, heroic Crowning Moment of Awesome.
Image Song: "I Am the Best"
Jerkass: In Revelation, he turns out to have been a Jerkass Woobie all along.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold
Knight in Sour Armor: Very cynical. Nevertheless, push comes to shove, he'll try to do the right thing.
Killed Off for Real: Alpha-Church is gone. Given that Epsilon contains memories of all the AI Fragments within him, however, a case could be made for Church's "resurrection", and creator and voice actor Burnie Burns has said that Epsilon becomes more like Alpha the more he spends time with the Blood Gulch Crew, though he still technically is not the same being.
Epsilon and Alpha-Church very briefly met shortly before Alpha-Church's death, and fan theories often suggest that Epsilon was able to "update" his memories of the Alpha to that point.
MacGuffin Guy: Both Alpha and Epsilon.
Nice Guy: Epsilon-Church.
Season nine shows, however, that he's developed Alpha's anger issues.
Only Sane Man: Well, he's the only one of the Blues that seems competent enough to get s**t done.
Other Me Annoys Me: Both his complaints in "Reconstruction" about how annoying the AI fragments are, and when Epsilon comments that both the Alpha and the Director are "kind of a d**k".
Reality Warper: The Blood Gulch simulation is his creation, he can do what he likes to it in the memory unit. Although that doesn't necessarily mean it does precisely what he wants...
Slap-Slap-Kiss: Alpha-Church has this with Tex. Epsilon is much more polite to her but ultimately decides to move on.
Supporting Leader: While he's definitely the main protagonist, whenever the situation calls for it, expect Church to be the one to unite both teams against the Big Bad. However, don't expect him to do much to the Big Bad, since...
That Man Is Dead: Subverted. Epsilon-Church clearly distinguishes between himself and "Alpha", but seems to fully identify himself as "Church".
Tomato in the Mirror
Vitriolic Best Buds: With Tucker.
Epsilon-Church is considerably friendlier with Tucker AND Caboose. Shocking, isn't it?
What Measure is a Non-human?: Or, "non-ghost," but either way this is called into question by the end of Reconstruction. Recreation and Revelation seem to infer that Epsilon-Church regards himself as equally human as his teammates.
Word Of God is that Epsilon is a metastable AI, meaning he essentially is equally human.

Lina Inverse

Voiced by: Megumi Hayashibara (Japanese), Lisa Ortiz (English; series), Cynthia Martinez (English; movies).
Our beloved Anti-Hero, Lina is a young Black Magician Girl from the land of Zephilia. She is known throughout the world as the "Queen of Destruction" and "Enemy of All Living Things" due to her short temper and skill with Dragon Slaves. Lina usually pursues power and riches for herself, but gets dragged into saving the world along the way.
Action Girl
A-Cup Angst: Does NOT like to be reminded of her small bust.
Hilarious in Hindsight: Compared to many flat chested characters, she is rather ample. Strangely enough, though, her bust seems to shrink every season.
It's understandable though when you consider the amount of time she spent hanging around Naga prior to the series proper. Amelia certainly didn't help matters any.
Annoying Younger Sibling: Lina was one of these to her older sister Luna... at least, until she used her magic to sell pictures of Luna in the bath, after which she learned a healthy respect for Luna (more like terror of her) and never crossed her again.
Anti-Hero: Walks between Type IV and V on a regular basis.
Used to be firmly a Type IV but this has shifted due to Flanderization.
Balloon Belly: Happens on occasion in the anime, but never to particularly noticable levels... despite the sheer quantity of food she can put away.
Berserk Button: Has a ton.
The worst one of all to press, which basically guarantees she'll want to kill you, is to threaten or kill children around her. Zuuma finds this out the hard way when he kills his son right in front of Lina; she utterly loses her temper and uses the Ragna Blade without chanting beforehand. In season 1, when Rezo turned a child to stone temporarily, she got angry enough to go willingly into Rezo's trap. In the novels, when Gaav "killed" a child in front of Lina, she made a vow to go kill the Demon Lord, when up till that point, she had been terrified of facing him at all. And in Next, well... see Wouldn't Hurt a Child.
Big Eater: To the core. She often tries to steal food from her friends' plates.
Black Mage: Lina's self-proclaimed specialty is in the usage of Black Magic. She still fits under this trope because the Slayers take on such magic is somewhere between Black Mage magic and Black Magic proper — that is, though the magic is fuelled by negative emotions and is drawn from the most powerful Demon Lords, it's treated by humans as simply "magic that is only usable for offense", much like how White Magic is "magic only usable for healing, defense, and purification".
Chekhov's Skill: Lina's exasperated comment in the first book that using a Mazoku's own power against it is like saying "Hey, help me kill you" turns out to be important in the last book, where Luke-Shabranigdu wants to die.
Cute Little Fangs: More prominent in the later seasons. Just look at her picture.
Dark Is Not Evil: She practices Black Magic and is highly destructive, but is still the heroine.
While most unquestionably the protagonist, "heroic" isn't really an accurate description of her. She saves the world out of self-interest, will usually try and stay away from problems unless they're either massively important or she's bribed/forced to do so, admits to considering her own appetites more important than anything else in the world, and has truly earned her bad reputation thanks to her bad temper and willingness to throw excessive amounts of force around.
She is of normal human morality but with a bad temper and a lot of fire power. This still fits under Dark but not Evil.
Disney Death: Around episodes 24-25 of Season 1.
Disproportionate Retribution: Is a big believer in returning threats, insults, and general annoyances with far more serious "punishments", such as blowing up a whole restaurant because somebody spilt her food.
Embarrassing Middle Name: An Embarrassing Title, actually. Lina was honored by the Zephilia Sorcerers' Guild with the official title of... Lina the Pink.
Expy: Interestingly, the novel illustrator Rui Araizumi has said that Lina's appearance was modeled on young Audrey Hepburn.
Fiery Redhead
First-Person Smartass: Her narration in the novels.
Generation Xerox: Her mother was also a sorceress with a small bust, who got together with her swordsman partner.
Good Is Not Nice: Oh yes.
Good Parents: As shown, Lina isn't the most morally upstanding member of society, and it is implied that the avatar of goodness, Luna, is even worse. However, her general store-running parents are implied to be kind and upstanding, and it's shown with her father in one of the Slayers Special novels: after testing him, it's he who suggests that Gourry find something or someone important to protect.
It's also worth noting that Lina herself is the only one among her allies to have both parents alive and well, a given considering that she is the protagonist!
Guile Heroine
Hair-Trigger Temper: The only sure-fire ways for her to not be pissed off at you are to A) have some uber-rare item that's worth loads or B) offer her lots of food.
The Heroine: But definitely not the traditional type.
Heroic BSOD: Has a short one in NEXT after Gourry is abducted and brainwashed, and then another when she thinks that she's killed a little girl.
Heroic Comedic Sociopath: This is a girl who, in the very first anime episode, blithely starts haggling with the mayor of a village to kill a dragon (which she set loose in the first place), while that dragon is tearing the village apart around them. She then vaporizes the village because the dragon deliberately stepped over her, thus proving that her newly discovered nickname was warranted.
Hero with Bad Publicity: Lina's been arrested and tried for "being Lina Inverse". Justified due to her habit of picking fights with people over petty reasons, willingness to steal, and her habit of slinging around really destructive spells in populated areas with no thought for collateral damage.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As much of a Jerkass as she can be, she does have a softer side.
Large Ham: Often invokes it. Lampshaded in Episode 16 of the original series.
Little Miss Badass and Little Miss Snarker
Lovable Rogue
Magic Knight: Uses her powers like this, although her magical power far exceeds her swordplay abilities.
Munchkin: An example of this as an actual character.
Person of Mass Destruction: With a corresponding reputation.
Precision F-Strike: From Next: "That b***h! She has the nerve to defy me and even brought up my weakest point!"
Playing with Fire: Aside from pure Black Magic spells, Lina's favorite go-to spells are Fire Shamanism, with Fireball and, to a lesser extent, Flare Arrow being her usual choices. Non-anime material even says she has a sorcerer's affinity for spells oriented around heat and light.
Red Baron: Has quite a few, including "The Bandit Killer" and "The Natural Enemy of All That Live". There's also "The Dragon Spooker", and even Lina doesn't understand what that means (it means dragons step past out of clear revulsion). Later in the episode, a dragon does exactly this. A prequel movie includes 'Dragon Nester', which is a crack at her small breasts.
Red Headed Heroine
Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Zelgadis' blue.
She Cleans Up Nicely: Lina looks quite attractive in a nice dress.
Skinship Grope: Does this to Amelia in the Hourglass of Falacies fanservice manga when both are asleep.
Third-Person Person: Occasionally addresses herself by her full name ("the beautiful/smart/talented Lina Inverse").
Tsundere: Partially averted by going mostly tsun-tsun, but she has dere-dere moments.
Vitriolic Best Buds: With Gourry, which eventually evolved into Belligerent Sexual Tension despite the author's initial intent.
Wave Motion Gun: The Dragon Slave is a mage's alternative.
Why Did It Have To Be Slugs?
Wouldn't Hurt a Child: The mere thought can send her into BSOD's, as it happened in NEXT, when she's attacked by an Undead Child from Sairaag and Lina "kills" her with a knife without looking. Sylphiel has to give the panicking and screaming Lina a Cooldown Hug to calm her down, reminding her that the poor little girl was already dead.

Yamato "Matt" Ishida
"I finally got it figured out. If I'm ever gonna change, I have to do it on my own. On my own. The others can't help me."

Matt wants everyone to think he's a brooding bad boy, but he's actually rather sensitive. He has issues trusting people (himself most of all), and he's very overprotective of his younger brother, TK. This causes him to be very cautious (although not as cautious as Joe), which results in a lot of clashes with the get-out-and-go Tai. Despite (or perhaps thanks to) all this, his crest is Friendship.
Matt's parents divorced sometime after the Greymon/Parrotmon fight in Hikarigaoka, but before the first episode. According to the Radio Drama Two-and-a-half Year Break, Matt was the one who decided that TK would go with their mother and he would live with their father. He doesn't have a great relationship with his parents, as he seems to feel abandoned by them. He has very low self-esteem, and seems to feel his only purpose in life is to watch out for TK—when TK starts feeling smothered by him, he's noticeably dismayed. However, with some encouragement from his partner, Gabumon, he was able to come to terms with his family's divorce, and returned in time to help save the team.
In the conclusion of 02, he becomes the first man on Mars. He is married to Sora.
Voiced by: Yuuto Kazama (JP), Michael Reisz (EN)
Aloof Big Brother
Anti-Hero: Type II.
Betty and Veronica: He's the Betty to Tai's Veronica towards Sora (The Archie). He won.
Big Brother Instinct
Bishōnen: In 02.
Chick Magnet: especially in 02
Mr. Fanservice
Get A Hold Of Yourself Man
Heroic BSOD
Ineffectual Loner
The Lancer
Men Can't Keep House: His dad definitely can't. Matt... does to the extent that he's forced to by circumstance. But season 2 has TK comment that his home is still pretty darn messy. And when looking in the fridge for something to give TK, he claims he's looking for something that's "not... expired."
More than Mind Control: Thanks to Cherrymon and the Sea of Darkness.
Nobody Touches The Hair: He says this in a throwaway line in the dub. Like a lot of stuff in the dub, it sort of disappears into the ether after that.
Official Couple: With Sora.
The Power of Friendship
Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Tai's red, though the line is blurred later on.
Tall, Dark and Snarky
10-Minute Retirement
Theme Naming: Named after folk hero Yamato Takeru, along with his younger brother.
Troubled, but Cute
Tsundere: According to an interview with Kazama Yuuto (his seiyuu) and Yamaguchi Mayumi (Gabumon's seiyuu), this applies to him. See the entry for more details.
Tsurime Eyes
Yamato Ishida (Yamato "Matt" Ishida)
Voiced by: Yuuto Kazama (JP), Michael Reisz (EN)
The Cast Show Off: Guess who becomes the frontman for a band in 02? He also has a CD single and drama CD to himself.
Relationship Upgrade: With Sora.

Character Info:: Here
Tv Tropes Info::
Nathaniel Howe
"The Howes are pariahs now, those of us left."
A human rogue and son of Arl Howe, who he sees as a patriot who fought for his nation. Feels the Grey Wardens are traitors for allowing Orlesians into Amaranthine. First seen in a comic from Penny Arcade. Voiced by Simon Chadwick.
The Archer: Was taught to shoot by his grandfather. The Warden can retrieve his grandfather's bow.
The Atoner: He honestly wants to make up for how his Father single-handedly ruined his family's name.
Avenging the Villain: His original plan when sneaking into the Keep. He decided to just take some family heirlooms and leave, but he still isn't impressed with the Warden when they first meet.
Badass Normal: It took four Grey Wardens to incapacitate him.
Broken Pedestal: He eventually comes to realize that his father was a selfish p***k who brought his fate on himself.
Chekhov's Gun: He mentions that he was squired in Kirkwall, a major city in the Free Marches - and the setting of Dragon Age II. (Nathaniel himself only appears in a late-game sidequest, and a possible guest star in the final battle).
Cleopatra Nose: While YMMV on how attractive you find him, many of his fans find his characteristic nose to be appealing.
Combat Pragmatist: He is described in his codex entry as a practical person, and he backs some of the more icky end-game decisions of Awakening, like burning Amaranthine, even if his companion quest (finding his sister, who lives in the city) is completed, and siding with the Architect.
The Comically Serious: He's dead serious (if snarky) all the time, leading to much annoyance and exasperation on his part when paired with the more upbeat companions (Anders, Oghren, and Sigrun).
Cruel Mercy: What he sees becoming a Warden as, if forced into the Joining. Only later does he realise the reason for his Conscription was because the Warden thought he'd prove to be a better man than his father and wanted to give him a chance to redeem his family name. (If he's released rather than conscripted, he becomes a Warden later of his own free will.)
Becomes more meaningful if the PC is a Human Noble, who lost everything to the machinations of Arl Howe.
Deadpan Snarker
Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Black hair, fair skin, and has a face with a lot of shadows and lines.
Enemy Mine: To the Warden, at first.
Generation Xerox: The subversion is particularly poignant if the Warden is the Human Noble. Both Nathaniel's grandfather and father, Tartleton and Rendon Howe, betrayed the Couslands and fought against Ferelden during the Ferelden Rebellion and Ferelden Civil War respectively. Nathaniel, on the other hand, if befriended, remains loyal, redeems his family name and even saves the Human Noble's brother in one of the epilogues.
Incredibly Lame Pun: His starting armor is called The Bear's Embrace.
Anders makes a joke out of Nathaniel's family name in a party banter they share.
Anders: So you're a Howe.
Nathaniel: Do you have a point, mage?
Anders: Hey, I'm fond of the Howes. I'm also fond of the Whys, the Whos, and the Whats.
Nathaniel: How clever.
Odd Friendship: If befriended, this becomes his relationship with the Human Noble Warden. It must run in the family, though at least this iteration ends more happily.
Ship Tease: With Velanna. Nathaniel calls her "my lady" and tells her that he finds her lovely, and she yells at him to stop saying that, in an embarrassed tone.
A female PC can flirt with him in the Blackmarsh, teasing him a little about his childhood dream of saving the haunted marsh.
Female PC: You wanted to be a hero? That's cute.
Nathaniel: Isn't that the dream of all little boys?
Sins of Our Fathers
Tall, Dark and Handsome/Tall, Dark and Snarky
Oghren: The whole "quiet and stoic" thing must get you a lot of action, huh?
Nathaniel: I take it you're an admirer, Oghren?
Oghren: What? No! No! Well, not unless - no!
Ugly Guy's Hot Son: Though opinions may differ as to how hot he actually is, Nathaniel is certainly much easier on the eyes than his father. Whether this is a result of beauty equaling goodness or simply taking after his mother's side is anyone's guess.
The Unfavourite: Subtly implied. He doesn't appear to have been very close with his father, was sent to Kirkwall in the Free Marches to become a squire and unlike his siblings, was never mentioned by Arl Howe at all during the course of Origins.
You Killed My Father: He was caught trying to assassinate the Warden. Particularly poignant if the Warden is the Human Noble.
