You need DNa to steal Bloodline abilities or Customs they're something sown into the character and stealing them isn't one of the simplest things. So lets say you develop some new forms in your sword techniques, those forms or stances can't be stollen by normal means of the sharingan, since it can't take other Genkai or Custom Jutsu. It's like a protection clause for abilities all your own.
Retaining the blood is like retaining the part of that person that allows them to perform their custom jutsu.
So only way to steal from you is to chop off a chunk of your body or draw some blood. By force is a bit difficult but it's always an option, but by free will it's fair to say that it would be the more pleasant of the options.

Why ish it all the coolest Gaians are from California..?
I used to know a guy who lived in Cali on Gaia, and I had a big huge crush on him before I even liked guys. blaugh It was quite an endeavor for me.
I live in Kentucky. It's worse than it sounds. Finding someone with proper diction here is like finding Blood Diamonds in Antarctica. Ugh.
