Oath- You have to lighten the hair at least...either via bleach or stripping. Neither are much fun.
Dying it blonde will just...not really make it lighter. It wouldn't do much actually if her hair is brown.

I dyed my hair Caramel.. It said 25-45 minutes. I left it in the full 45...
My hair turned out dark red. I'm destined to be a red head forever. gonk
I can't bring it back to brown... I dye it red once or twice and now I'm like a natural red head or something.

It was red, but it had been fading back into the platinum blonde and cotton candy pink it was before that. I didn't want it to end up a light caramel cream or anything... I was just hoping for, at the very least, a dark brown by the time I was done with it... Something less eyecatching than red.
I just have bleached my hair blonde a lot, and haven't cut it drastically inbetween bleaching. I have given it trims, and as of yesterday, the scene version of Uma Thurman's hair in Pulp Fiction. Bleaching hair is bad for it... I just wanted brown... >.<
I still have Black. I could definitely do that. But that's just a tad too Uma Thurman for me. xd I could walk up to people and be like, "Don't be a" -Shapes square with hands- and they'd get a kick out of that.
I am probably going to use the black for undertones. Or streaks. Or tips. Depending on how wild I'm feeling.

Love- You could probably use the black as highlights and darken the red by not using all of it.

I was trying to get... "Stylish, feminine, but waitress-acceptable" hair
I ended up with "Firetrucks streaked with blood" hair.
And if I add black, even in streaks, it will probably just end up looking like... Neo-Goth hair type thing.

Yeah, tektek keeps track of all the evolving items and you can see if they have a date as to when they'll be updated.
