Personality:
Arrogance was a trait that was born and bred into Charon rather than learned. It was the way of the herd he grew up in. Finding his glorious and powerful herd shattered, Charon is left alone in a world he had thought they would conquer.
Blood superiority doesn't amount to much here, and though he still values it he does it in a more quiet manner. More important to his belief system is a life of war and scars, so he sells his skills though he doesn't need the payment because he doesn't know how to do anything else.
He's made a rather weird friendship with Margaery Tyrell, born of something he was surprised to find he had for her--respect.
Backstory:
Charon came South with the Kalona army. Arrogant, he never thought the kalonas would lose--surely blood purity meant something?
In the long run though it had not. When the herd fell apart, defeated, Charon found himself a bit lost. He had been raised for a life of war--it was what he was used to and now he had nothing.
Finally, Charon (not his born name, but the one he was given as a young warrior for killing others and sending them on their way, thus he was named for the ferryman of the dead) realized that he would have to change his ways somewhat.
He became a sellsword, a professional fighter and protector to whomever could pay his fee.
