You can use your arcane reagents you bought for enchanting to brew a potion if you like. The rules are very very vague (as in non existent) on how obtaining the magical reagents for this use with these two rituals work.

Just out of interest has enough time passed and non-strenuous activity done to have a short rest done?

Not quite yet. I wouldn't classify walking out to the front gate as non strenuous activity. Once Valac has sits down at the fire for a bit and maybe eat a meal I'll count that as a short rest.
