Rinneh; Only now is she not useless. xD

'Ruhi; Kishimoto uses standard devices, as does every other long running Shounen Jump series.

Anime Facts 101: Female characters are, on the whole, utterly useless. And if not utterly, then mostly. If not mostly, then semi. And if not semi, then they will be soon passed up by a male peer in both utility and importance.

*Exception: When a particular series hosts a female lead character(s), this role of uselessness is often reserved amongst sexes.

For any manga that hosts a female lead and she is useless AND the writer is a male I think that's biased. <<

**Note to the exception: Author is a self-righteous feminist with a stick up her a**.

Oi just because the female role is badass and the male role cant compete does not make the authoress feminist. XD

You ask the general public why you think so-and-so chose a female lead instead of a male lead and what do you think the general response would be?
PostPosted: Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:32 pm

I dunno. I am not the general public. XD

I know if I write a manga, I would like to make at least one with a successful good female lead. Without her being a mary sue of course. Although that term is fairly broadly used from what I hear. XP

Well, the typical answer would be because the author is a feminist. In societies and cultures that put masculinity and machismo and being a man on pedestals, you'll typically receive a queer but predictable reaction when a woman is put higher than a man. Since feminists shy away from said culture's or society's status quo, they can be regarded as radicalists and thus their work becomes all about being for the woman, by the woman, etc.

Let's just face it, discussing the usefulness of gender in a manga is completely useless because either way, someone's gonna be a pig, or sexist, or a crazy feminist. The list goes on, but all in all, it leads nowhere.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:41 pm

Not all writers are like that. I am not like that. :] You are looking at it from either sides of the extremes but there are those who sit in the middle too.

I think there's too much emphasis on gender sometimes.

Which is why I think at some point in the near future androgyny will become the new fashion. XD

Haku; Ooooh. Really, Haku?

Rinneh; I know you are, but still, I was just saying the conversation at this point was useless, as it was moot.
