Jake arrived at the boats breathing heavily. It was clear no matter how much the guy wished to hide it that he had ran from the station to keep up with everyone else. silently the new first year slipped into one of the boats that had no one in and sat there closing his eyes to calm down his racing heart and catch his breath faster. Shortly after closing them, his brown eyes opened to look out over the lake that they were about to travel.

"well it could've been worse if I had missed the boats," he mused outloud with a soft chuckle to himself. After that he sat there silently waiting for his boat to fill up with people so that they may head to the school to be sorted.

His eyes dropped to Colton's outstretched hand, a slight chortle escaping him, "A pleasure," the first-year remarked in his almost musical, yet confident tone. Blaire noted his peer's stern gaze as he daintily set his hand in the boy's grasp before withdrawing it and turning to Ronyo, his face still bearing the coy smirk. He repeated the gesture to Ronyo, then Jane, Then Phi.

As the conversation shifted back to the topic of sorting, Blaire feigned ignorance as he pitched in, "Who knows? Maybe Ravenclaw?" He began twirling his hair between his fingers again as he spoke. Ravenclaw. That's likely, his thoughts dripping with sarcasm. Blaire was never one to put all his cards on the table. He preferred people to underestimate him.

Woil got into a boat with a rather timid and scared looking first year. He stared at him from the corner of his eye.
Such a weakling...
Be nice... Let me talk to him.
Woil twitched a bit and held his head twitching again before shaking it and looking at the first year.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked the first year giving him a reassuring smile.

Jake looked up from the lake. "I'm perfectly fine if it really matters to you." he practically growled at the guy who was addressing him. It was slightly harsher the he would've normally said it but not by much. His brown eyes drifted over the person not entirely sure what to make of him. The other guys was a bit on the tall side though rather skinny and held brownish-blonde hair with blue eyes.

The First year turned his attention back to the lake not even really caring that someone had joined him. Right now his mind was on ways to get back at his sister once they were on winter break. A mischievous smile played across Jakes face as he though of all the pranks he would pull on Ashleigh over christmas break, after all she had allowed him to not just fall asleep but nearly get left behind at the train station.

((odd orange Cape:format under construction XD timid and scared are two thing Jake is not but I guess someone meeting him for the first time may think so))

Black Lake/ First Year Boats
Ronyo Storm - Unsorted
First Year

As Ronyo listened to the round of introductions and replied in kind he took note of the people he was now riding with more. Colton just about yelled out his military heritage in both looks and the way he acted. The red head, Phi, seemed astute as well and more willing to dive into her book than a sociable conversation. The other girl Jane seemed normal enough if not one who's eyes spoke of someone still reserving their ideas on those now adjacent to her. Then there was Blaire, the newest addition to their little boat crew and the most peculiar one of them all. Blaire had the hand shake of a girl and the student's slightly musical tone of voice seemed to lend all in all to that conclusion.

After Blair's answer to the question of houses Ronyo made a sure mental note of the hap-hazard way the answer had be relayed. It had come quickly without much thought and seemed to mix with the idea of amusement and un-assuredness. The telling trait of Blaire playing with one's hair was often a sign signifying a practiced routine, how what that practice was Ronyo had not a clue yet. He would however keep an eye on that one, for if nothing else Blaire was likely the example of deception in all forms and deception was the central idea in all conflict.

Not wishing to keep his mind tied to the current quandary the casual new student brought about, Ronyo moved to answer the question that had been asked to everyone. What house? His mother had told him enough of all the houses and what the represented in both ideas, practices, and history.

"The loyalty and hard working practices of Hufflepuff seem more than worth joining, as is the cunning and deceptive nature of Slytherin. For in all the stories I have read, of both muggle and wizard alike it seems a good bit of cunning and deception are usually warranted for the hero. The sharp and inquisitive minds of Ravenclaw peek my interest in their constantly calculating practices, but I would have to say Gryffindor sounds to be a place my heart could be free within. The courage and tenacity along with the willingness to stand up for what is right I believe favors my liking."

When the lake came into view Daisy let out a small gasp of wonder. It was so big! It seemed to stretch on forever if not for the distant silhouette of the castle. Moving towards the groups of first years she tried not to fret. Hopefully she'd make some friends. It would be nice to get to know more kids her own age.

Coming over to the loading boats she spotted one with a pair of boys in it. Taking a deep breath and reminding herself to be friends she approached. "Excuse me? May I join you two?" Daisy asked politely not wanting to intrude if she wasn't wanted.

Woil was a bit taken aback by Jake's rather, rude and blunt personality.
Seem's like you've got some competition...
Yay! Finally someone else to have some fun with!
...Have fun... I think you mean cause trouble...
Call it what you want, I'm taking over again!
He let out another twitch and shook a bit as he held his head, when his hand fell he leaned back and stared up at the sky.
"Well it's proper to introduce yourself, punk." He said in a rather bored and disinterested voice while he was actually trying to tease the kid and have some 'fun'. When a girl came over to them he looked at her and smiled, Sure! Come on in. He said in a more happier tone then he had used on the other first year.

Daisy smiled when one of the boys welcomed her on. Carefully climbing into the boat she swept her skirt out like she was taught and sat down knees together and feet tucked under her. Charon wouldn't be happy if she didn't sit like a proper young lady. Her mind was buzzing with nerves and excitement. Glancing back over her shoulder to make certain there wasn't someone else waiting to get in, Daisy quickly returned her attention to her boat mates.

"Thank you very much. I'm Daisy Gaunt pleasure to meet you both." She said a happy note in her voice as she nodded a polite greeting to them both. "Are the two of you looking forward to school?" Daisy asked curious about the others.

Jane listened very interested by all of it. "I'm not exactly sure, I don't know much considering both of my parents are muggles. Ravenclaw or Gryffindor maybe." She shrugged. She picked up the cage with the owl in it a put it on her lap. She was still pondering its name. Qetesh or Marshmallow. She almost completely forgot about the others in the boat and simply focused on the small young owl.

Jake shrugged when the girl asked if she could join them. Then without taking his eyes off the lake he hefted a sigh he was never a fan of meeting new people nor making friends. "my name is Jacob Cardon. though it really doesn't matter since odds are after the sorting i'm not gonna be talking to you." he said bluntly then continued on. "though for the sake of formalities i'll act like I actually care about your names. So it's nice to meet you Daisy and oh Haven't asked your name yet umm..." he trailed off waiting for the other boy to answer his semi-unasked question.

For the second time since he had entered the boat he took his eyes off the lake and faced his boat-mates. Jake didn't really feel like small talk but he had a slight feeling that there wouldn't be much of a way for him to get out of it. "I guess I am. I mean it gets me out from under my parents' nagging." he said answering the girls question.

"Brace yourself,
I'm going to hug you....or not."

"Yeah." Rowen looked at the boat for a few moments, checking if it was sturdy enough. She cautiously placed one foot in. It seemed fine enough. She placed the other one in and sighed in relief. This wasn't too bad. Rowen leaned forwards and leaned on her knees and sighed once more, enjoying the serenity of the lake.

"I've never really been in a boat before." she admitted, looking at Mallow. "Have you?"

Woil jumped at his chance, "You want my name mister Jacob Cardon, then I'm afraid you'll have to fix that attitude of yours." He said sticking his tongue out at him and bringing it back into his mouth.Your such an ***...
Yup, and I enjoy it.
He held a hand out to the girl named, Daisy Gaunt,"I'll let you know my name when our rather, blunt, friend isn't around." He said giving her a polite and happy smile.

Vanessa was sitting in one of the boats by herself. She hadn't really taken the time to talk to anyone since she had stepped off the train. It wasn't that she was shy, no the blonde first year was anything but that. It was more that she just didn't feel like talking after all so far all the conversations she had managed to over hear were redundant consisting of mainly two topics what house everyone wished to be sorted into and if they were looking forward or happy about being in school now. The girl could answer these questions in a heartbeat even if she had bothered to answer them. the first one, what house she hoped to be sorted into was simple she didn't care she could survive in any of them with no issues after all she was pureblooded. The second was just as easy, of course she was happy about being in school it meant she could learn far more that that which her parents had already told her about.

With a soft hum, the first year wondered if she would actaully be interested in any of the classes offered here at hogwarts. As she pondered that she also wondered if she would find anyone she would get along with and who wouldn't bother asking pointless questions like it seemed that all of the rest of the first years were doing.

She returned to her reading with the same tactic she had adopted while still in waiting at the platform moments ago. She read though kept her ears open for her name, any questions, or simply when the conversation demanded her participation. She hoped she was not coming off as rude, though with this group of people the social side she had shown was slowly shrinking back into her and she was becoming more herself. Little bookworm lost in daydreams.

She raised her eyes at Colton's and Ronyo's thoughts and answers to the question. Colton clearly came form a long history of Magics. From his wary tone, Phi could detect that he was in a strange spot about where he belonged. Having family to compare one's self to must be just as unnerving as coming into the world of magic blind and out of place.
Phi vaguely wondered which houses her real parents had belonged to. A thought that had crossed her more than once since the arrival of that life-changing letter. Another thought that reappeared often; whether they even attended Hogwarts. Whether they attended another school, or even attended at all. If she was Muggle born like Jane. Or if she came form a pure family like Colton.
Her eyes lost some of their brightness and she did not return to her book, feeling as though even if she did, she would no longer be really seeing the words on the pages.

instead she momentarily looked over onto the glassy expanse of water before them and onto the flickering silhouette of a castle. Perhaps there were some answers for her there, and if not, something to at least keep her busy.

Her dark eyes returned to her book, but she listened more intently to any conversation between the company of the boat.

Blaire crossed his right leg over his left as he addressed the others, "Hm...Gryffindor, huh? Not a bad choice." Bravery is over-rated. Impulsive, brash, and reckless. He looked over the boat into the deep, reflective surface. One of Blaire's most detrimental flaws: it seemed as if he couldn't pass his reflection without being enamored and fawning. "Ravenclaw's an excellent choice, too," he continued in his posh accent, If you don't have the drive to pursue anything past the thirst for answers. He paused for a moment, realizing how critical he sounded to himself. He didn't have any prejudices toward any of the houses - every piece has its purpose, after all. He just couldn't honestly see himself in any house other than Slytherin.
