The Machine [Open/Accepting]

"Yes sir." They replied at the same time. They sat nervously, shifting their hands as they looked up at him.

"Ah. Tell me about your projects. I'd like to hear all about them" Damien said, look at each of the two in the eyes.

"I was working with mechanical hearts." The noble began. "And using machines to power limbs. The difficulty is getting the machines to connect to the nerves."

"I was working with organic chemistry." The poor one replied. "And bioweaponry."

Damien raised an eyebrow when he heard bioweaponry. "Ah, very good. Both sound very interesting" he said, then looked at the poor boy. "What kind of bioweapons were you focusing on?" he asked.

"Nothing lethal. It's a gas that stuns the nerves until a chemical is used to undo the stun. I haven't perfected it. There are still a lot of variables." He replied.

"Ah, quite the concept" Damien said. He wondered if it was this kid's chemicals that were used in the explosion. Then again, just because it was his chemicals didn't mean he did it. Someone else could have used them. It could be the noble kid. "Well, the reason I've brought you here is because we're investigating that explosion that happened a few weeks ago that injured many people and even killed a few. Since you two were there, it would be a real help if you could tell everything you know about it" Damien said. Shadow's envelope sat in Damien's desk, ready for him to pull out if he needed it.

"The Absolute Leader is investigating this?" The noble asked, appalled. The poor kid said nothing and narrowed his eyes at the noble child for being rude before turning back to the Absolute Leader.

"I don't know much about that. I was scheduled for a later time slot, so I wasn't there when it happened." The noble replied.

"I was there." The poor kid replied. "I was interested about their theory, but I watched from the balcony. They were complaining that the chemicals didn't have the right consistency or something, and proctor ignored them. They stated they wouldn't present until they were checked first for safety reasons, but they were told that if they backed out, their presentation would be forfeit. I admit that it was weird. So they told everyone to back up beyond the intended radius, and they used some really weird mechanical gadgets to run it from a distance. Some of the people didn't listen to them, and they were the ones with the most damage from the blast."

Damien nodded to what the poor kid was saying. Then he looked at the noble, not liking his attitude. "Excuse me? You give that kind of tone to your Absolute Leader?" he asked.

"I- I meant no disrespect. I was just surprised that someone of your stature would take a personal interest in this case." The noble boy replied, slightly shaken.

"Well let's just say I have a personal connection to a couple of the victims of this incident. I'm not saying how or who, but I am considering this a personal matter" Damien explained. Hopefully that might rattle them a little more.

The two suddenly looked shaken as they looked at Damien with wide eyes like deer in the headlights.

"I-I understand..." The noble replied, quickly looking away. The poor kid said nothing, looking the opposite direction as he played with his thumbs nervously.

"So is there anything else either of you would like to add about what happened that day? Anything that you didn't mention before?" Damien asked, starting to press the issue.

"No sir." The noble boy replied as the poor kid shook his head 'no'.

"Ah, I see" Damien said. He then opened a drawer and pulled out the envelope. He opened up said envelope and pulled out the contents inside.

The two boys watched as he pulled out the envelope. The poor kid swallowed hard as the noble kid began to feel awkward, thinking that Damien was doing work in front of them.
