Hallows was born into a complicated family. By his mother's standards, he would never be enough because he was male. He later learned the word for it was misandric-a dislike or hatred of males. His father was complacent and by Hallows reckoning that made him just as bad as his mother since he was too complacent to argue. Hallows loves them both but he realizes that they are toxic to his life. It's improbable that he'll be able to change them since soquili have to want to change to change.

He is no weak male. He is strong and capable. He believes steadfastly in equality (even if to being with, as a foal, he only did it to irritate his mom).

Determined to be resolute and firm in his beliefs, he's stuck with his siblings-- His mother refusing to take her sons because of their gender and upset that her only daughter and heir doesn't want much to do with her. She comes back for her every once in awhile never sparing a second glance for her worthy and capable sons. Even though he pretends it doesn't bother him, it does. She's still his mother and he's still her child.
