яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġAs Phi quoted John Lubbock, a tender smile spread itself evenly across Colton's stone face. How true. He hummed to himself, considering the blatant honesty in her words. Colt had promised himself, and not to mention his father, that he would make the best of the next seven years, and that he would accept his fate with open arms. After all, what fun would it be to spend those years behind the bars of a prison cell?
Colton was beginning to get antsy, and judging by the quiet flutter of wings and the sound of beak against metal, he assumed that Hemlock was not taking the wait very well, either. Finally giving up, he reached behind him and unlocked the large golden cage that sat against the wall of the cold, wooden boat. The medium-sized owl flapped his wings only once, landing on Colton's shoulder to prove that freedom was all he had wanted. With a short smirk, the boy relaxed his shoulders, if only momentarily, rubbing the owl's neck with his rough fingers.
As Hemlock edged along his landing pad in order to let his head rest against his friend's cheek, Colton's eyes moved to the center of the boat, where Ronyo had began to recite a poem that he not only recognized, but saw as a perfect fit for their current situation. He clapped along with Phi, and somehow, even after he had assessed her entire personality, it surprised him that she was able to put a name to the words Ronyo spoke. He watched as she lent him a book, wishing he wasn't too anxious to read himself, and making another entry into his mental notebook of the girl's more-than-satisfactory taste in reading. Colton turned his attention back to the heavy bird on his shoulder, holding out a single finger for Hemlock to shake with his tiny claws.

jane Abigail doyle Jane looked up only slightly when she heard the flutter of wings. "You have a beautiful owl" she said quietly taking her hand out of the water. The sight of Colton's owl made her again think of her own. The young owl was no doubt getting antsy the same as Jane. Following almost the exact same movements as Colton she release the owl from it's cage. The owl happily rested on Jane's awaiting shoulder. Jane stroked the soft feathers of the small barn owl. "That's a good girl" she whispered. Something about they owl gave her confidence. She felt like she could actually speak now, if she had something to say that is.

яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġAs Colton envisioned himself walking the glorious halls of Hogwarts, painting his own picture with his intense imagination, he was quickly interrupted by a quiet clinking sound. Looking over, Jane had seemed to like his idea, as she slipped open the lock on her own owl's cage, setting it free to rest on her shoulder. He noted the fact that it was a girl, then glanced down at Hemlock. "Don't be gettin' any ideas on me, now. I don't want you sneaking out at night with the ladies, you hear?" He winked at his bird, then let his eyes return to Jane's, his mind shooting back to the compliment she had made while his mind had been elsewhere. "As do you." His belated reply caused the hint of a smile to play across his lips, the core of his his attention dancing between her and her owl.
The only real trait that Colton had been able to pull from Jane since he had first spotted her at Hogsmeade Station was bored. He didn't know if she was hiding her personality on purpose or not, but it was certainly working. He quickly realized that his lack of interest in her was based only on her common name, but only because he knew little else about her to take into account. He decided that rather than pulling every detail from her every movement, that answers would likely come much easier if he just sought them out. "So what's your story?" Colton waited a moment to get an answer, realizing rather rapidly how rude, and even possibly confusing he may have came off as. "Pardon me. I just mean...well, you seem a bit displaced, but I can't quite pinpoint what puts you there. Are you...nervous? Or an undercover skeptic, perhaps? Though I can't put a finger on it, I do believe that something is bothering you." Colton's statement was not meant to be hurtful, nor judgmental, just...there.

Echo laughed openly at Emrys' reaction to her pinching him. "That was to bring you out of denial and into the realm of acceptance." She sat back smugly, leaning on the wall of the boat.
"To answer your question. Muggles don't take kindly to not understanding things. A lot of what they call science is really just amateur forms of natural magic in the world. Not all magic is domesticated you know." A small shiver ran down her spine as the wind kicked up again.
Realizing that she never answered his question about which house she wanted to be in, she thought deeply. After a few minuets she broke the silence, "Most of my family has been in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. Both of my parents were Claws, that's how they met."

Blaire remained silent in the boat. His inspecting gaze bounced between Colton and Phi, the slightest hint of a deviant smirk breaking the stillness of his face. His attention was momentarily taken from the pair by Ronyo's poetry. The first-year joined the others' longing stares toward the distant marvel with the beautiful recital. Though he didn't join the two in clapping, he greatly enjoyed it, a genuine smile brightening his face at its conclusion.
Once his mind had returned to the vessel, he noticed Colton and Jane, now each sporting their owl familiars, had captured each others' attentions. As the red-haired girl presented the three works to Ronyo, a flicker reawakened in Blaire's eyes. Let's test my little theory, shall we? "What's this one?" he played dumb, extending his hand toward the copy of The Bound Man, knowing it to be the book Phi herself was reading. As the binding made contact with his fingertips, he gave the book a slight, clumsy nudge "accidentally" sending it to the bottom of the boat. Immediately withdrawing his hand to his mouth in "surprise", he apologized, "Oh, I'm sorry. Such a clutz." Blaire paused though, not moving to recover the work himself, and kept his attention on Colton in his peripheral vision.

ƒιяѕт уєαя-υηѕσятє∂ Bea grinned, poking out her tongue cheekily. But when Allen mentioned that he would have to push her in, a dark look crossed her eyes. She glared at him for a moment, daring him to. "I wouldn't, if I were you," warned Bea, and before he had the chance to push her in, she jumped into the icy cold water. She bit her lip to keep from yelping as the icy water bit into her skin. Forcing her teeth to stop chattering, Bea turned to Allen, grinning shakily. "You owe me 10 sickles," she beamed triumphantly.

Emrys nodded.slightly, chewing on his fingernail absentmindedly. 'So, basically, we're too stupid.' He filled in the spaces and shrugged. He couldn't deny it. "So were you wanting to join Gryffindor or Ravenclaw?'" he asked, his question still unanswered as he tried to fight back a chuckle. {~~~~~~~~FIRST YEAR~~~~~~~~} {~~~~~~~~UNSORTED~~~~~~~~}

It had pages marked, corners folded and even small personal notes or thoughts scribbled in the borders. She hoped it would not distract Ronyo from the book though, it was still in very good condition. Phi hated to see ill-treated books. She nodded and smiled, glad to see his intent on learning. She herself was eager to set some spells off and learns some things in their future classes. She glanced over to Jane, about to offer her a book choice as well, knowing she must feel a bit out-of-place once more. But she found the pretty dark haired girl had let loose her unnamed owl along with Colton. She smiled at the pair and eagerly gazed at both the creatures now that bars of steel did not obstruct their beauty. Phi longed to have Hermes with her more than ever now - seeing the two owls out and gingerly sitting with their owners.
Just as she was silently wondering whether her barn owl was and imagining what she would write in her first owl post to her parents from Hogwarts, she felt one of her books slip from her lap. She looked down and noticed it had been Blaire. Phi now concentrated on what Blaire had said she her mind had been else where. "the Bound Man by Ilse Aichinger" She bent down (carefully holding Chopin in Paris with her other hand so it too, did not slide into the boat) and picked up her book. It had opened in the fall and a few pages were wet from the wood of the boat, which was slightly damp. Phi pulled out her long malus wand and held it to the book's pages. "Impervius" and the water quickly dripped off the paper and binding completely, as if repelled.
She held it out to Blaire and locked eyes with those fair, clear eyes. "Short stories." she added, in her offer for Blaire to borrow it. She looked into her eyes and took in the features of her face, trying to spot something that was setting her off about the character. In one quick glance, Phi noticed something and her eyes glowed. Her face though, unchanged. She returned her eyes to Blaire. "No harm done." She regarded the book's falling into water. A tone of knowing in her voice.╚══════════════════╝

яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġWhile surveying the details of Jane's owl, Colton was completely aware of the newest addition of their boat watching the exchange of the book from Phi to Ronyo. As Blaire spoke up however, he physically turned his head to witness her question about the book that Phi had been reading in between conversations. His instincts told him that the book falling to the boat's floor had been intentional, though he wasn't sure what her intentions were if it had been. Doing his best to avoid his powerful judgmental side, he held back the obnoxious thoughts tapping against the back of his skull.
During this mental consideration, Colton had already moved Hemlock to the boat's edge, where he perched in silence, staring at his unique reflection in the lake's water. Colt bent forward swiftly between where Phi and Ronyo were seated, planning to scoop up the book and dust it off before replacing it on Phi's lap - no doubt an automatic gesture that clearly illustrated his gentlemen side. It didn't bother him to lend a hand one bit, because even if Blaire had literally thrown the book on the ground, Colton still would have offered his assistance. However, the mysterious redhead reached the fallen book before he could, his hand sweeping across the top of hers at their perfectly-timed reaches, bringing his gray eyes to make contact with hers for a short moment. He pulled back his muscular arm, returning to his seat without so much of a change in emotion. He watched, quite impressed, as Phi quickly returned her book to a state of dryness, and still offered it to Blaire, despite the underlying scheme. A noble move in his eyes.

Though, he wasn't worried she was going to be in danger, he just wanted to count the seconds off himself! He watched the lake top be broken in perfection by the bubbled coming from where he assumed Bea was underwater. He counted in his head with a big grin plastered on his face. The smile slipped though at 19 and then, at 21 rose even bigger than before. She was in for longer! Once he saw her sandy brown hair (now looking black with water and dim light) burst from the depth he clapped and laughed. "Brilliant!" he chuckled. He stretched out his hand and grasped her freezing, goose-bumped arm and pulled her back into the boat. Grabbing her cloak and wrapping it around her. Taking his and doing so as well, for good measure. "27 seconds! That is ten sickles I am not sad to hand over. You are going to catch such a cold." He laughed and started rubbing her arms vigorously. ¦¦

She exchanged a thought through her dark, swimming orbs. Thanking him for his instant reflex to pick up her book. Not, though, showing she had discovered something. That was a scrap of information she was going to keep between her, and the hopefully-observant Blaire.
She turned her head back to the long, blond-haired character and allowed the muscular boy to return to his conversation with Jane.╚══════════════════╝

Blaire dropped his hand to his side, and smirked triumphantly as the two went for the book. He watched as Colton's hand grazed Phi's, and the two locked glances, if only for a moment. Brilliant. You're welcome, Phi, the first-year praised himself, believing he had done the book-worm a favor, in his way. He was slightly taken aback when she offered the book to him anyway, her gaze meeting his, "Oh, I'm not much for short stories. Thanks, though," he replied in his musical tone to the red-haired girl's offer, gesturing his disinterest with one hand. "What sort o-?"
Blaire quickly snapped his head around at the sound of the water erupting, his face bending into a slight snarl as several droplets splashed him . It appeared one of his fellow first-years had grown so bored, she'd actually jumped into the lake. There's a Gryffindor if I've ever seen one. He wiped his face with one sleeve, and turned back to his own boat-mates, altering his expression back to friendly and absent-minded. Blaire cleared his throat before continuing, "What sort of wand do you have?" He eyed Phi's revealed wand curiously - about a foot with a spiraled design.

Following in her lead, he took out his own wand, unwrapped her form both the cloaks and used the Hot Air Charm to help dry her. He looked around his shoulder to the groundskeeper, hoping she had not seen in case it had been against the rules. Not to mention dangerous.
Once she was quite close to dry and much warmer, he took his cloak, did a quick 'Impervius' to rid it of any water and reached into the pockets, pulling out Bea's well earned gamble. He tossed the coins skillfully to Bea and grinned. "Don't spend it all in one place." ¦¦

She just turned her head when the water splashed onto Blaire. Phi did not look in the direction of the source, but from the laughs and shouts she could hear nearby accompanying it, she knew it must have been a student jumping in. Instead, she focused her attention to watching Blaire form the corner of her eye, red hair curtaining her. The snarl did not go unnoticed.
Thoughts began to stir in the girl's head and she drew her eyes from the character, looking at the cover of her book without opening it. "Malus wood." she answered quietly, noting how odd the question was. Topics regarding sorting and House preference were numerous and terribly common among the first year lot, but wands. A topic she had not heard even attempted by anyone but Blaire. Phi knew, from reading and addressing other wizards, that wands were like the right hand for a Magic. A weapon one could barely survive without. Instinct and acquired knowledge told her that she should always keep her's in good condition and safe. Though, it was purely instinct that stopped her from sharing her core. It seemed personal and Phi was not one to share unless given good reason to.╚══════════════════╝
