Marina smiled at Ronyo and Jane. "What a coincidence seeing you guys here," she joked. "Lead the way." The second year followed them.

"Endurance is nobler than strength and has more patience than beauty."

☮James had been silently listening to the conversation, trying to get a better feel for whom she was going to spending time with. Observing was often the best way to do so. When the two older students showed up, the Ravenclaw smiled. It was about time they should start. However, they would have to go even further. 'Here we go,' she thought to herself as she followed the group.☮

Steffi was walking along the hallway, her one good eye focused on her shoes, or rather the lack of one of them. She wasn't really sure how she'd managed to scuff up one shoe bad enough for it to get a giant hole in the sole, but for now she'd have to go one shoed, since she hadn't the money to buy a new pair. She was for once totally oblivious to her surroundings and didn't notice her fellow first year running through the hall. She sure felt her though, when the pink haired girl ran straight into her, sending them both to the ground.

Steffi blinked in surprise but was on her feet in seconds. She smiled down at Autumn who was still on the floor and held out a hand to her, offering to help her up. "I'm perfectly fine" She said. The girl was a Hufflepuff just like Cain. "Are you okay though?" She asked, genuine concern in her voice. The pink haired girl made her feel a bit protective for some reason. Steffi wasn't sure why but it was probably because looking down at her she reminded her of Aubrey, who was always knocking into people and getting hurt because she didn't pay attention to her surroundings.

Steffi giggled slightly when Autumn messed up her name quite a few times. "Steffi. Just Steffi." She said, smiling at the Hufflepuff. "You sure you're not bruised or anything?" She asked, just to make sure the girl was perfectly okay. As she spoke, she adjusted her eye patch which had been bumped out of place when she'd smashed into the pink haired girl. "How're you liking Hogwarts so far anyways?" She asked curiously.

Steffi nodded in agreement as Autumn practically bounced with excitement. The pink haired girl made her smile, almost as if she was rubbing off on Steffi. "Hogwarts has been great!"She said, laughing slightly. "I didn't really expect to be coming, so when my siblings talked about it, the idea made me sad. But then I got my letter and I was really really excited. I'm so happy to be here. "

Steffi stared at Autumn for a few seconds, confused. Then she realized that here at Hogwarts, it wasn't well known that she was an orphan. "Oh yeah...." She said more to herself than to the Hufflepuff. She twirled a piece of hair around her finger and started to explain. "Well you see, from what I remember my parents were just... normal... you know... uhh muggles... that's the term right? But anyways, they abandoned me, so I'm an orphan." She paused, trying to think of a good way to explain her family. "My siblings... aren't really actually my siblings. At the orphanage... you gotta learn to survive so we created a family between us. We protect each other and stand by each other through thick and thin. My brother Cain, he's a Hufflepuff like you, he's a pureblood. My sister Aubrey is a half-blood. But me I'm just a muggle born. So I didn't think I was magical at all until I got my letter." She nodded her head, hoping that made sense. She really wasn't sure if it did. She'd always found that trying to explain her 'family' to other people was hard. A lot of people just didn't get that as an orphan you had to make do with what you had, and that included trying to find some semblance of a family.

Steffi shrugged when Autumn said she was sorry. "Don't be!" She said, smiling reassuringly at the other girl. "It's not so bad when you get used to it. I find ways to get by and make sure my 'family' is alright...." She said, not mentioning that those ways included stealing, losing her eye, and probably worse things when she was older and had more options. She would never let her younger siblings go without, even if it meant she had to go through crap or not eat or anything else. She smiled at Autumn and unconsciously messed with her eye patch.

Damien wandered the halls of the school silently, almost ghost-like, a muddled expression on his face. He hadn't expected Dominic's response to his story, hadn't expected his mate to be so... supportive. Not that he'd thought Dom would've said he should've let Marina die or anything, he wasn't cruel... or, that cruel, at the very least. But... Dom had almost reacted like his father had, flustered and almost unsurprised. Like it was hardly questionable that he'd react that way. Like he didn't consider the idea of Damien not protecting her... Damien wouldn't have even thought he was capable of such a thing, so why didn't anyone seem shocked by it? The support had him confused. All his life, he'd lived by the principle that those who were not pureblooded were beneath him. Now, that idea was being rocked, by Marina, by his father... even by Professor Harlowe. He was almost certain she was a halfblood, and she seemed to be one of the best role models he knew. The only person... the only person who'd reacted negetively to his saving her... was his mother. Who he'd always thought he was closest to. The person who he'd considered his caregiver and teacher. His role model. Now... he was almost disgusted by her. He... he thought he might hate her.

And what about Marina? Every time he saw here now, he felt... odd. There was this strange sensation in his stomach, like... he didn't even know how to describe it. He felt guilty for not sitting with her in lessons, he felt guilty for not spending time with her. They were friends, of course, but this... this was different. He didn't know what it was, or what to do.
