Well, according to my mathematical calculations and judging by the exact angle that my shadow is angeling down towards my brown-colored carpet, it would be concluded that I want Gold. |

Frankly, Twilight was the first book I actually liked. That was, until I realized that there were other books a lot better and more intriguing. could honestly say that I have all four books, just because they were on sale when I saw them and that they were the ones that pushed me to actually read.
I don't understand why there are so much haters out there. I believe that Meyer created a very unique concept of vampirism. She created a huge impact on many people--whether it be haters or lovers--which, I think is one of the things many authors strive for. Her books are being talked about by thousands of people and she's earning quite a bit of money from this, too.
It's true that it is overrated, clichéd, etc. And a lot of vampire--and some paranormal--books are being compared to Twilight. But if you were an author, isn't that what you'd want? To have people talk about your books?
Sure, the protagonist is almost suicidal--without the almost. Sure she falls in love with a creeper. But that's not really the concept of it. It's the forbidden love between the two. Why would you question her characters if it was her creation? Her book. Her story. Her concept.
That's the same as shunning down Dracula due to the fact that he falls in love with a mortal. The thing is, Twilight is Meyer's creation, sparkly vampires or not, she made a lot of money out of it--not much authors makes that much sales.
Also, for haters who say that it's boring are rather biased. Compared to other books out there, Twilight isn't boring at all. I would prefer it over Moby d**k or whatever.
mmkay. I'm ready to get flamed.

damaged-reality Now enough with my opinions, because I really don't care about them. What do YOU think about her? Honestly, I've tried not to: but I may finally cave and read Twilight (my daughter tried to get e to do so, years ago). I've seen people complain about the "helpless female" stereotype, and the "equating blood and sex", and I think that, maybe, I should finally take a look for myself.
Of course, part of the reason for my change of mind is that I've recently read Eragon, which was actually not a bad book. I could see te parts that people may have thought were plagiarized, and it may have a trope or several, but overall, it was an entertaining read, and is that not what we strive to do when we write? Aside from writing for ourselves, of course. We start off writing for ourselves, because we get "what-if" ideas in our heads, and extrapolate.on them.
I need to scout around. I think Terror (that's my affectionate nickname for my daughter, short for Bunny Terror) left her copy here.

Slytherin Avatar Legend Exarielle BlackLaw Somewhere around the beginning, she describes Edworm's Edward's eyes as being "ocher". Ocher isn't a word. She obviously meant "ochre", and it's a little detail, but things like that irritate me to no end. Edworm. Serious win Ocher seems to be the recent,y established, Americanized spelling. I would have opted for "ochre", to. It's te spellnig I grew up with; but they changed a lot of things, in the past decade or so, and even in the past year. Glad you like my little joke. ^^ I also grew up with ochre. Ocher just... It just feels wrong to me. I dislike it.

That's the British versus American spellnig for you. Writing papers for school, I'd use British spelling and get bad marks. Most of the interesting books I read were British. Now, they Americanize the British books, which is not so much fun.

While their intentions aren't bad, the results are not so good. And my mind still boggles, that they would translate English into...English.

I wonder why Americans seem to have such a phobia when it comes to literature from other nations...?

Uniform language = equality, something like that. Only thing is, they're really, really confused, and everything should instead be translated into Esperanto to confuse the h377 out of everyone, and not just a select few.
