Leila's ears twitched at the sound of the door opening, and she could smell her master's confusion. "Shocking, isn't it?" she said softly.

Nicholas had to sit down, sitting on her bed as he looked at her with shocked eyes. "Just, wow... I- I don't know what to say. Should I be amazed, scared, happy? I don't know." He gave it more thought and then sighed, signaling her to sit down next to him. "Okay, give me the story. How and why?"

Leila collapsed onto her bed. "I can't tell you how to react. I don't even have control over when the change occurs." She groaned. "My original master did this to me. He wanted entertainment of the...carnal sort. He found that when I...was transformed...my personality would change...become softer...weaker." Tears started to gather in her eyes. "I hate it."

Nicholas listened with full attention, shaking his head in disgust. "I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know what would make a man want to change a person for those vulgar reasons. I can't change you back since I don't know how. But if I did, I would change you back to human as fast as I could. No one should have to suffer though what you went though." He said. He then gave her a comforting hug as she started to cry.

Leila stiffened at his touch and pushed him away, hissing. "Don't touch me!" she snarled. A moment later, she realized what she'd done, and the snarl disappeared. It was replaced by an expression of contrition. "I'm sorry, Master!"

Nicholas' eyes widened at her snarl, backing away more after she pushed him. He then tried to calm himself down, seeing that Leila was sorry. "N-no... I should be the one apologizing to you. I should have at least asked before trying to comfort you." He said, still a little frightened by the snarl. "I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable or startled." He said, hugging himself to trying to relax his nerves.

Leila's ears drooped like those of an ashamed puppy. "Don't apologize. I'm not used to it. Kindness like that's worse than the beatings I got used to with my old master." Her tail drooped as well. Had she been standing, it would have been wrapped around one of her legs.

Leila whimpered and covered her ears. "Don't, Please! Stop being so nice! Haven't you ever seen a dog in a shelter that's been abused in its past? Kindness is worse punishment than abuse! The dog expects to be beaten, and when you're nice to it, it's even more scared because it thinks you're going to explode on it later!"

"Then the dog starts to get used to the kindness and realizes that the owner won't explode or be mean at all! Sure they're may be incidents, but those would tend to happen as a accidental occurrence. I'm a nice guy and have no reason to be mad or angry. I don't know how it feels to be abused, but I know that a strong bond of friendship and kindness can help heal the scars." He then got up, looking at her with confident eyes. "I will heal you of your scars. I don't care how long it takes, but I will do it. Sleep well please. Good night." He then said and left her in her room, closing the door behind her.

When Nicholas had left, Leila collapsed back onto her bed and curled up, sobbing softly, "Imah...Imah, ani khaserah li...rotzeh lalechet habayit...Imah..." I miss you...I want to go home... Eventually, she fell asleep.

Nicholas felt absolutely terrible when he got into his room. He had no right to yell or be aggressive. He wants to help her, but she's been treated so badly that helping her would only make it worse. He wished it could be easier, but life is cruel and you can't also get what you want sadly. He sighed and slowly drifted to sleep.
-The Next Day-
Nicholas was up, but today, he wasn't reading books. In fact, he wasn't even in the library. He was in the music room of all places. The room was filled with dust, only opened again after so many years. A puff of dust was blown away on a very nice but old baby grand piano. Nicholas flipped the door and started at the ivory keys for a while. He then started to play... The notes were spastic, random and our of key. Nothing felt fluid and was just a garbled mess. However, Nicholas still played, not flinching at all the mistakes he made.

Despite her exhaustion the night before, Leila was up with the sun. Her ears and tail hadn't disappeared yet, so she tied a sweater around her waist and a bandana over her head to hide them. When she went to bring Nicholas his breakfast and saw that he wasn't in the library, she was a little confused. Then she heard what sounded like a piano in great need of tuning played by someone who hadn't much experience. Following the sound, Leila found Nicholas in the music room. The dust tickled her nose and made her sneeze. "This place doesn't get much use, does it?" she said. Her normally caustic tone was softened and slightly subservient. "I brought your breakfast, Master."

Nicholas stopped when he heard Leila walk in. "No. No it doesn't. I haven't been in here for four years, spending my entire time in the library. I thought I may give this a try again, but the mistakes are unbearable." He said, not even turning around as he stared at the ivory keys. "Thank you for the breakfast. Just place it on the dusty table next to the guitars my father tried to get me to play. Maybe I should try to play that too, actually put use in the money that father is wasting on me." He said, almost sounding upset.
