Walking heater, walking snack machine. Really, Roch seemed to have ALL THE THINGS.

Edel simply shrugged at the punk reaper's slight disapproval. She was still, technically, a teenager. This just happened to be one of those days she felt like acting like one.

The frost demon raised her eyebrows back at Roch, staring straight at him while pondering.

Sure.

Waiting for the teacher to clarify, it would seem the other students took his personal suggestion seriously.

Well then. He supposed that was his element, then. Whatever you'd call it. Element of Creepycrawly? He supposed that fit in with Fear of Falling or Fear of Burning To Death. Fear of being ripped to shreds by little vermin sounded totally viable. As a hideous sort of young man with far too much metal in his face and a lavender haircut hissed at him, Enzo raised a thick eyebrow. Who the hell cared what he did to the stupid little things that insisted on invading his privacy? It was taking most of his self control not to snarl and fidget in his chair where their little tiny legs itched and tickled. Nuts to 'em. "M'sure this Cricket broad knows how t'keep her nose outta personal business. She aint complaining you punched a bunch o' holes in your face is she?"

As though abandoning ship at this negative talk, several more scurried down from out of his pant leg, over his shoe, and towards the sweet smelling residue of Bul's mucus.

False left Sharpie to the dog boil (Thackery) as the teacher began to speak. For the most part he sat back watching each element react, nodding slowly at each before flinching at the sudden shriek that was falling. As a Pyromancer he only truly understood the first one, the others he knew of, but his attempts to use them had often backfired more amazingly then his usual work with fire.

Slowly he stood up edging his seat back, "I understand Fire, I'm a Pyromancer from the Swamps. It's the one Element I'm good at. Most of the others I ah... yeah I just screw them up when I try." For added effect he held out both hands small flames popping up to dance in each of them, not much larger at the base then that of a small fist.

Danny would've been glaring at Edel, but she was too busy making goo-goo eyes at False

's fingers. Look at that! He could do the flame thingy just like her! Well no, his were tiny little flames, hers were more like ... big orbs of flame. They were different, but it was still flame.

"Look at that guy!" she excited whispered, not even bothering to turn around at Roch, as her eyes were still fixated on False's little flames, though the sentiment was aimed at the punk boil, "I didn't know he could do that! He's the guy from your party, right?"

Roch looked at Enzo, raising an eyebrow. "Man am I lookin forward to your first health class," he said with amusement before turning back to Edel. "You and me, we're gonna haveta party sometime," he added before turning back to the front of the room. Visions of icepops were dancing in his head. The he caught Danny's question about False.

"Well, yeah, but he just showed up," he said with a shrug. "Open party, y'know? Although that is pretty cool," he added.

Hearing Roch chime in, Shun glanced over at the other grim before shrugging. It was possible there were other reapers that were affiliated with shadows but he wasn't really sure what. The various mages were generally affiliated with certain elements, as the pyromancer mentioned.

And he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the clown looking student that gave his answer.

He didn't look too amused with the joke.

What a sweet little thing... Levi gave a small smile to the snakey critter that came by while she spoke to Bul, addressing the half beast in regards to heat. Somehow, it reminded her of herself as a scarling.

Before she could reply to the boil or ask what sort of critter this serpentine screecheart was, the professor began. All attention was now placed on the studies at hand; she would not fail this class. The look she received from the professor had her raising brow questioningly.

"Even monsters..." he said. Levi glanced again around the room and then back at Bul. The tatzel somehow felt a bit smaller than usual; she wasn't one to really separate peers by faction. Everyone was the same, right? Right.

She did, however perk again when cockroaches and snot were brought up. If those could be elements...

Tapping her chin in thought, Levi worked those creaking wheels extra hard to think of what her kin could possibly have as far as an element. She answered the professor with all she had to go by. Jumpin' ain't no element. But how 'bout poison? That count?

They kept on turning, those wheels.

...n' ma folks n'all... we're a farmin' kinda folk. Earth ain't really in me but- it's 'a part 'a me, ya know?......

...yea.

Would her crop growing skills come in handy in this class? Scratching her head, she sat back down, still thinking about this.

Most of the student volunteers received nods and small smiles as recognition that they were on the right track. A few, though, he couldn’t help but comment on.

“I’d call them vermin,” the professor answered Enzo, though at the sight of the rats he did lick his lips a little hungrily, “Roaches are an excellent source of fear, Mr. Enzo, but not an element. They are already living things, more like monsters than magic.”

“Ah, hexes. Dangerous but rewarding. Unfortunately, not an element.” He signaled for Riyo to take a seat, but the ghoul was way ahead of him on that. “However, I would be delighted to hear more about the kind of hexes you can cast, Miss Riyo. Perhaps after class?”

“You can surprise us all by getting a passing mark, Mr. Thanatos.” He gave Thanatos a severe, unamused look over the edge of his glasses.

“That is correct, Mr. Shun.” The professor nodded. “Shadows are an advanced element, and a very useful one. Not one we’ll be covering today, unfortunately, but the same principles apply to all elements.”

The demon smiled politely but apprehensively at Bul’s idea of a magical talent. “...Charming.

"It does indeed, Miss Levi. Another one we don't have the time to cover today, being advanced." He turned toward the chalkboard. "Which brings us to what we will be covering - how to acquire your basic elements."

While the students had been talking, Professor Proudfoot had been hard at work at the chalkboard. Sort of. The piece of chalk he’d picked up had been writing as if guided by an invisible hand. A huge diagram, circles within circles, writing within circles, shapes within circles, dominated the board. It looked like it was designed to strike fear into the hearts of anyone with bad handwriting or unsteady hands.

“This, as you are all aware,” he explained, waving toward the chalkboard, “is a summoning circle.”

A few hands may have shot up at this point, a few voices murmuring that no, they weren’t aware.

“In order to have or use a living element, you will have to summon it first. Beginners should always use a summoning circle to do so safely and accurately. Consider it a magical cage to hold what you are calling to you.” He picked up the fire jar, which began to blaze again. “Just because you call something doesn’t mean it wants to answer you.”

“Please take some chalk and draw a basic summoning circle on your desk. I won’t be checking your work, so have a neighbor look it over if you’re unsure. You have ten minutes.” After handing out a few buckets of colorful chalk, the demon slunk back to his desk and resumed his studies.

(( In the next ~24 hours, post the summoning circle your student draws, or tries to at least. You can draw it on the computer, scan one you draw on paper, or find one on google images by searching ‘summoning circle’. It doesn't even have to be a summoning circle at all if your student feels like drawing something else!

As always, students are free to talk to each other! ))

Nuru was rather glad he wasn't among the ones who seemed to get scolded for being wrong. Normally he was. But not this tiiiime. Such a smug smirk was unbecoming of the boil but that fact wasn't about to stop him from doing it.

He danced in his seat once the teacher started passing out pieces of chalk, waiting for his. Once he got it he immediately began scrawling out a circle that took up most of his desk, an X inside it and then various details he felt were absolutely required.

As if writing his name all over it wasn't enough, he still felt compelled to sign his work. Once it was finished he looked back at the teacher while smiling. Quietly glowing with pride of his handiwork.

The frost demon nodded her head at Roch and turned to face the front again. Edel stared in wide eyed wonder and amazement as the professor completed the last few inscriptions on the extremely elaborate summoning circle that he had drawn. FREE HAND. Even she didn't have such steady hands, well, there was always the compass for that. The ghoul stared at the board after receiving the professor's instructions, looking rather perplexed. She had never had to use a summoning circle before though they weren't completely unfamiliar; she had read about them in some books. What the different glyphs and runes meant however, those never caught on.

A basic summoning circle? Right. She had no idea how one of those looked, but obviously it had to be less ... elaborate as that. Edel cleared her table and formed a large disc of ice which she then used to trace the outline of a circle. What. She had just assumed that a summoning circle would require some perfect geometry and there really wasn't any harm being a**l about it was there? As for the details or rather, embellishments, the frost demon would first try to reference the one of the board before giving up and drawing something else of her own design with the aid of smaller ice discs of varying size.

Her work had taken her most of the ten minutes and when she decided she was done, the ghoul sat back, frowned, and added a quick side note which was more of a personal reference. There were some smudges here and there but she decided to leave those alone. ...Really, it felt more like drawing a piece of art than anything; it simply held no meaning to her. Welp.

Roch slipped his eyephone out of his pocket, holding it under the desk as he started gruegleing summoning circles. When he found one that looked pretty simple he dragged out a piece of paper and doodled an exact copy of it on the paper.

So inventive--not.

Even if Riyo was a good player when it came to hiding her emotions, she still couldn't hide her embarrassment when the teacher told her hex wasn't an element. She should've figured, but she knew next to nothing about her magic heritage or the theory behind it. What did one call the thing she did with the little cat blobs? A mess element? Because that's all it was, at this point. A big ******** mess that she couldn't control. Or maybe it was a masochist element. Because it always about took a chunk out of her skin when it came back after her. Ugh.

... Had the teacher just asked her to show him spells after class?

The feline's eyes widened with fright, immediately looking down at her notes and scribbling something out.

'NOTE TO SELF: AFTER CLASS, RUN.' Just in case she got absorbed in the lesson. At this point... She wasn't exactly sure she would.

Summoning an element that didn't want to be summoned? The ghoul had a mild idea of how that might go over... Which made her nervous. Not of pain, perhaps, but of shame.

Though, considering some of the other screw ups in class, her failure would probably be nothing compared to theirs, right? ... Right.

Chalk. Oh joy. Riyo hated the dry, dirty feel of the piece of chalk she procured from the bucket, looking at the object with disdain. How did one draw a summoning circle? She certainly couldn't do one as elaborate as the one on the board. Hell, the feline could only draw stick figures on a good day!

But, que sera. She'd signed up for this class, and she would do whatever she had to for a good grade.

There was a lot of erasing as she tried to create her own 'masterpiece', biting her lower lip as the ghoul carefully and meticulously tried to make each line as perfect as she could. Eventually her brain switched to the other side and she lost track of both time and the people around her. All that she thought about was the circle. Nice circle. Pretty circle. Chalky circle. And then came the little designs on the inside. Had to be symmetrical. Symmetry was success. Yesssss.

User Image

In the end, she slammed her chalk down with a sigh and looked over her work, not particularly sure what it was supposed to mean... But uh, it looked alright, right?

ADVANCED

He had said advanced, right? That just about had Levi levitating with glee. Yep. Advanced. Anyone watching would've noted her tail's end immediately swaying behind her just by the back of her seat. An advanced spookie she was right from the star-

What circle now?

Hearing Professor Proudfoot speak with much earnest to maintain her advanced standing, Levi took a piece of chalk and had at this summoning circle deal, trying to mimic what the professor had made on the board. Circles touching... and some squiggly things. If she was going for poison here, how did you picture poison? Pausing with a rather confused look, Her eyes wider with her smile again- a skull! Perfect! Despite him saying they were to stick to beginner elements; well done. She felt rather proud of her work. Surely this was what he was looking for, right? Right!

Shadows were an advanced element? Mot's brows raised, and a smile spread across his features. Oh boy! He was advanced~.

Well.. sort of. He was still getting used to the Shadow Shift ability...

Mot listened quietly to the lecture, taking in every bit of information and storing it away in hopes of remembering it. The good part came soon, as they were instructed to draw on their desks. Really!? Awesome! Mot grinned and got to work.

Well.. to be honest he had no idea what he was doing. He just kept making shapes and squiggly lines until it looked good. And chain patterns, because chains are awesome.

Enzo scowled at the teacher's response. Well, fine. Fine. Elements, huh? Proper elements? He wasn't firey, he wasn't icy. Except musically, of course... but he was told *very sternly* they were not allowed to summon their familiars if they were cumbersome. Poor Boss, all alone in the hallway, probably humming a somber tune...

Well. If there was any element he felt he was in tune with...

His freckled face contorted in concentration as he pulled his hat down seriously, drawing slowly, carefully, meticulously across his paper until he had something like this:

User Image

Unfortunately, it only seemed to summon one thing.

Which stood boldly at Bul's feet, glowering up with narrowed segmented eyes and twitching feelers, a segmented limb rising up to tilt it's hat in seriousness before whipping about the piece of tooth-floss it had somehow come across.

The giant lizard was going down.

Or at least one of it's thorny foot-claws was gettin' wrangled.

Enzo frowned.

Well, he had tried.
