It was futile at this point.

She laughed, and he was back at the beginning

Apparently the rules had changed, and once again Yin was back in class. He needed to get this done soon or just wait until after his trip to attempt it again.

Wave 1: Attempt failed

One would think that on his 6th try he'd remember to get his sword after changing into the skirt.

One would be surprised at what he had forgotten.

Wave 1: Pass

Yeah, that was how he did it, one swing of his mighty sword at a time.

Why stop at killing 2 waves of familiars when he could go for three? The violence was really quite exciting for the mantodae.

He was trying rather hard not to think about the boss at this point. Kill the familiars, worry about the boss later. There were still more familiars after this.

Wave 4: Pass

Okay, the light at the end of the tunnel. Dispatch this batch of familiars, then head toward the boss. Defeat the boss and maybe he would not have to wear this skirt again.

Wave 5: Pass
HP: 12

It was time to take a breather, and then...it was time for the boss. He took a deep breath, tugged the hem of his skirt down, and looked toward her. This was it.

HP: 12 + 22 = 30/30

"Let us do this."

She looked at him.

She grinned.

But no matter how hopeless it seemed he was determined to try.

Just because he was determined to try did not mean that he was successful. His first slice barely nudged her and she just laughed and racked her clawed hands over him, slicing into him even as he retaliated.

With things going as well as they were he was already beginning to mentally prepare for the inevitable. But he was not going down without a fight.

He grinned as his sword pierced her stomach, ripping it out with relish before going in for another attack, swinging at her leg.

She laughed.

This was working. He could feel it was working.

But she was tiring him out too quickly. Gritting his teeth he stabbed with his sword, letting his aggression run its course.
