The witch sent one last card, one last attempt, but it was futile. It gave the monster a paper cut.
In retaliation, Belladonna plopped herself down on the ground.

"Just go ahead and end this. I'll be back soon, don't you worry."

HP: 5
Damage: 0+1= 1
Boss HP: 19

Once again, the witch didn't even bother attacking.
It would be useless. There was no way she could win. She just gave up, again and let the monster drop her into sweet oblivion.

HP: DEAD LIKE A DEAD THING
Damage: WHAT? THAT'S FUNNY
Boss HP:Never dying. Ever.

Just keep going. Just keep on trying.
It was soon becoming a mantra to the witch, but she kept plugging away at it. But this time when Belladonna reached the swirling black hole, she didn't jump right in. She stood over it for a moment and saluted it.
"Oh dear friend, when will this all end?"
But still, she jumped in anyways.

The same sight greeted her as it always had and this time the witch only heaved a heavy sigh and flicked a card toward the wave of creatures that assaulted her.

HP: 37
Damage: 5+1= 6
Wave 1: PASS... but just barely

After such an apathetic start, Belladonna amped up her next attack. She threw the next card a bit harder and smiled when it quickly cut down another wave of creatures.

"I've accepted my fate, you see!" She called out to the death creature that loomed up ahead, still a little ways off.

HP: 34
Damage: 7+1= 8
Wave 2: PASS

"I'm not going to give up, and I'm not going to surrender to you." The witch mused as she did a twirl and tossed out some deadly cards. Whether or not the creature was listening didn't matter, it made Belladonna feel better to talk.
She always did better when she talked!

And just as the witch was going to explain herself some more, she stopped to do a very pretty pirouette. But the twirl was interrupted by a wave of creatures that bite at her ankles. Belladonna squealed and kicked at them, but her feet merely passed through them and she forgot to use her cards.

Damage: 2+1= 3 NOT ENOUGH
Wave 4: FAIL

The creatures did not let up their attack and Belladonna only flailed angrily at them. Why wouldn't they leave her alone!?

Finally the witch came to her senses enough to start throwing out cards, but the creatures had latched onto her arms and prevented her from throwing decent shots.
This was getting ridiculous...

Finally, after an agonizingly long time of helplessly flailing, Belladonna managed to tune in with one of her cards and cut down the creatures attacking her. They had done too much damage, but she was so close.
There was still hope.

Yet her limbs ached and Belladonna was so tired.
It was hard to fight the final wave, so she didn't even bother.

Wave 5: FAIL

Somewhere deep inside was the strength to carry on. It rose up within the witch and commanded she try just a little harder. Belladonna obeyed and was able to cut through the last wave of creatures.
Once more, all that was left was the boss.

Though she was tired, Belladonna took calm even breaths and waited as she healed herself. It would do her no good to run brazenly into battle only half healed.

Wait... Had she said that before? Had she thought all this before?
The repeating cycle was starting to wear on her...

Thankfully, Belladonna's determination to end this cycle added her in her first attack. She charged the thing, swinging wildly as she shot cards in its directions. The cards found their marks and gave the monster a few nasty gashes.

With another intense throw of her cards, a strange thought occurred to the witch.
What if I actually finish this time? What if this is it? What if I make it?

Such a thought startled her into pulling back on a hit, but not by much. Already the creature was visibly weakening, which thrilled the witch immensely.
She might have a chance this time!
