The silence that fell between them was heavy, Jae not taking kindly to it. She grew more and more tense and it was making her squirm. When he asked her "...why?" she released the breath that she had been holding and returned her gaze to his form. She could see it, the visible tenseness in him that she was feeling. "I don't know." She didn't understand the extent of his question but it felt right to say that. If she was more honest with herself she would just tell him that she also felt like her heart was going to explode when he touched her or even when he smiled at her. She didn't like the fact that he drew attention, whether he noticed it or not nor was she comfortable with the fact that now he was on the fast paced track to ranking up he was going to be separated from her more often now. It hurt to imagine that. Someone else picking on him, making him uncomfortable. Why was she beating around the bush so much? This wasn't like her. "I'm a little bit freaked out, honestly. I don't know what to say. Sounds like you either have serious issues with puberty or you have a ...c-crush on me." There. She said it. This was something she could handle, being up front. Crossing her arms she kept her gaze on him, not wanting to disrespect him by looking elsewhere. He deserved the time of day, so to speak. "Don't get me wrong...I'm freaked out but not necessarily in a bad way." Wait that sounded odd. "I mean...hmmm." She stopped short, unsure of what she was trying to say. Her first crush had been one sided it had never developed past her pining and this situation was unknown to her. I'm probably freaking him out now Jae thought to herself, making a funny noise in her throat as she tried to settle down.

Samuru ran a hand through his hair, roughing it up in its typical mess. He didn't know what she meant by crush....Is that what he was feeling right now? He stared at Jae for a second, his eyes finally losing their glassy look as he began to process "....I guess?....." not....the best answer. But he didn't feel this way around other girls. He didn't look for them, he looked for Jae. He didn't want to hold them, he wanted to hold Jae. When she wasn't around, he didn't notice anyone else. How could he say all of that? That it didn't matter what other girls were around, who looked at him, who talked to him, who noticed him "I don't....You're the one I look for and want. Is that a crush...?" he asked, slowly sitting cross leg, his hands settling onto his shins as he waited. Calming down, talking about this....it was helping.

I guess? That was his response. She felt like a fool suddenly and if she had fur her hackles would have been up. It stung, his response. He didn't know that but it stung nonetheless. Why was she trying to explain this? She was no expert. She tried to kill the first boy that liked her and had fallen in love with a man who had children through an affair! If she were to admit her feelings for Samuru he would be one of the most decent people she had cared for. Her feelings had never been this intense before either. To the point of possessiveness. "I don't....You're the one I look for and want. Is that a crush...?" Her cheeks flared once more, that blush returning to them. That sounded like someone who had more than a crush. "I-I'm bad at this type of stuff I don't know!" She snapped, flustered in her own defense. He was the one who had boldly hugged her and was now confessing this stuff to her yet he had no idea what it meant?! Was he a born Casanova or something!? She had greatly overlooked this part of Samuru. Who knew... She stayed silent for a second, trying to think things over. Was there a rush to figure it out right now? She didn't think so. It wasn't like Samuru was asking anything of her and it wasn't like she was turning him down or anything either. She cared about Samuru, more than anyone else but she didn't want to be selfish either. Jae was bad luck. Before she could over think some more Jae sneezed, the cold water that had been absorbed in her socks and boots and her chilled legs had gotten to her. She sniffed, rubbing her nose in annoyance. This silence had carried for a while now, very unlike her but she didn't know what to say. "Is it enough to say that I care about you more than anyone? More than my old friends from Yukigakure and people in Konoha combined." Was this what she was supposed to say? She was so confused. Jae pulled her knees toward her chest, hugged her legs closer to her body and buried her face into her knees. Her hair spilled over her shoulders and covered her face completely. It cascaded in long waves down her back, giving her even more coverage.

Ah....I made her mad at me again... Samuru looked down, shame burning his cheeks pink. He rubbed his shoulder, feeling the still healing bumps from the burn and wondered if either of them knew what they were doing. Jae admitted she didn't know....and he really had no clue. Looking up as she sneezed, he frowned then stood, walked the short distance to her and sat down beside her "...." awkwardly, without any of the sudden grace and urge that he'd used before, he put his arms around her from the side, pulling her in to his side. It wasn't really a hug...more a simple embrace to stave off the cold "Yeah.....its....its enough..." he replied, putting his chin on her head, staring at the lake. Her clothes were really cold against his leg.

His warmth spilled over her again and this time she wasn't as shocked about the gesture as she had been before. It was gentler and with different intentions. His kindness was always to spare. Even in a situation like this. Jae felt guilty about wetting Samuru but she was enjoying basking off of his natural heat. Who knew? One who grew up in the harsh cold of Yukigakure could ever grow to like warm things. If it was Samuru hugging her she didn't mind. It was comfortable and she could have fallen asleep had there not been a zillion of things rushing through her mind. Unfurling from her curled position a little. "T-this doesn't mean I will let you protect me or anything by the way." Jae said, her heart beat picking up a few paces because of his close proximity. A fluttering sort of movement in her stomach made her feel odd. It was the most peculiar sensation she had yet to experience. She turned her head to look up at him, despite Samuru having rested his chin there. "I can still kick your butt." Being weak killed her and this, whatever it was between them, she didn't want it to make her out to be something different. Something less than what she was now. I'll be the one protecting you. No matter what. This vow of hers had nothing to do with the situation they seemed to have progressed into. Since the first time she had met Samuru, the darker person he was, she had accepted him then and had promised to see him succeed and grow. He brought out the best in her and she would repay him with her life if need be. Jae moved slightly so that it was easier to bring her hands up. Reaching for his hair she swiped at it here and there slowly in order to make sense of it. "It has a life of it's own, I swear." She commented, sitting up a little more so that she could run her hands at the back of his head in order to make sense of the mess that was his hair.

Samuru just smiled, a happy almost cat-ish smile, and said nothing. Jae was stronger then him. He'd accepted that a while ago and it didn't bother him like it might bother other people. As she moved around, he leaned back, putting his arms down but not changing his proximity. As she mussed with his hair, he just shrugged helplessly "It doesn't bother me..." he said. As her hands moved to the back, though, he felt himself get suddenly sleepy. Her fingers felt really good on his scalp and as she fiddled with his hair, he found his head going down to his chest, eyes closed. He kind of remembered that he still had to go to Takumi and he might need to go get his puppets but it was so distant....and her hands felt really good. His back bent as he leaned closer, giving her more space to mess with his hair but it also put his head almost directly over her collar bone, his bangs brushing her neck "Mmmm..." he hummed just a bit, not really there anymore but drifting somewhere in the before-sleep space.

Of course it didn't bother him. Sometimes Jae wondered if he ever brushed his hair. More than likely he didn't. Then again despite her protests she liked his hair the way it was. It gave him that unorganized, disheveled look. His hair was soft to the touch and as he leaned into her, allowing her to continue her gestures, she felt her breath catch in her throat. It was like stroking the softest of raven feathers. The hairs from his bangs tickled her neck, Jae resisting the urge to wrap her arms around him in that moment. This wasn't a bad thing, whatever it was that was going on between them. She let out a small laugh, smiling to herself as she continued to stroke his head in a rhythmic manner. "We should get a joint mission or something." Jae said to Samuru, suddenly feeling the urge to be up and about. Jae patted his back softly, rubbing her hand in a small circular manner. "What do you think?" She asked him, not really expecting an answer. She was talking to fill in the silence like she always did. Jae hesitated slightly, wanting to now act upon what she had been itching to do earlier. Slowly, she reached out and draped her arms around the top part of his back. She pulled him into her, allowing him to lean on her if he wanted to doze off. Letting out a small, content, sigh she rested her check on the top of his head closing her eyes and letting her guard down for a little. Suddenly the weight of the day pressed down on her and she felt herself resisting sleep, or so her mind told her. She was lightly dozing in a matter of seconds of having remained still in this comfortable position.

Not expecting her to suggest a joint mission or even working together, Samuru smiled with his eyes still closed and just bobbled his head a little. It would be nice to do something with Jae that was more then just hanging out and causing trouble. As Jae suddenly wrapped her arms around his back and pulled him closer, he moved his head so his forehead and eyes were hidden in the crook of her neck. He brought his arms around her waist, resting them as he linked the fingers together mmmmm... he thought, happy to just remain there but..."...Jae? I still have to get my puppets..." he mumbled, not making any move to really get up and do anything. He could always just summon both of them. Having brought almost nothing to the exams except the puppets, Samuru didn't really need to go back to the waiting room.

Warm. Very, very warm. Memories floated through her mind, or dreams, she wasn't sure. Her parents, telling her to be careful and to mind the Yukikages instruction and to hold her tongue in order to not get into trouble. It was a memory of the past and despite Jae shouting at herself not to leave, to listen, she knew how this would play out. She would go on that mission, would report back and get kicked out of the village. Ayaki and Shigeru would come for her and her cowardice and stubbornness would get her friend killed and push the other away. Hearing her name called aloud, Jae roused from her sleep, releasing her hold on Samuru instantaneously. Her gaze was unfocused for a second, her feelings jumbled and mixed up before she would regain her sense of self and where.

A lazy smile broke upon her features, Jae immediately rearranging her features. Whoops. Got lost. She thought to herself, refusing to go to that dark place. It haunted her still to this day. Her mistakes. "Well. You can do that, I will go and speak to the Hokage." She said, getting slightly weary. Yeah. Awkward. She didn't want to touch that sore spot but it was better to do so now than later. Jae was more than capable of putting on a smile. "Or I can wait for you here. I'm sure I can stay out of trouble until then." Jae scooted back a bit to disentangle herself from Samuru. In a fluid moment she stood, reaching down to touch the ends of her shorts and clothes. They were damp but not to where she would freeze her a** off. "I'll try at least." She mused, looking down at him and smirking. Holding out her hand she offered him a 'hand' to assist him in getting up. He looked like a giant cat almost. All legs, hair and charm.

Samuru looked up at Jae as she left his grasp, looking at her with a....mournful? It was a strange expression, his face sad but emotionless at the same time ... running a hand through his hair and messing up her previous attempts to straighten it, he stood without taking her hand. But he did reach out and brush her fingertips with his own before his hands went into his pockets "I have to go to Takumi. It will be easier for me to just go there from here....so I'll meet you back at the village." he replied, giving her a smile that didn't quite reach the edge his eyes. He didn't look forward to going back to the village.... But Jae said she was going to ask for a mission...."Bye, Jae." he turned and started off, breaking into a small run to get his puppets.

Geez. He was born to be a Casanova. She thought to herself as he brushed his fingers lightly against her own, despite bypassing her offer to help him up. He was content with just meeting her in the village, which was fine with Jae. This city didn't have things that appealed to her. Casinos, bars and arenas didn't hold any interest for her. An old soul was what she was and it didn't bother her in the least. Waving to him as he made his escape she waited until he was out of eyesight before her expression fell. Her gaze was not as cheerful and her expressions were slower. All business now. Tossing her hair over her shoulder she headed back home, Jae not wasting any time in doing so.

Coming to the river, Samuru recognized it instantly. This was where he'd had his spar with Jae...and other subsequent actions that had occurred. Rather then dwell on it, Samuru pulled his light jacket off and faced his sister, arms crossed as he thought about what he wanted to say "...We're going to work on three techniques of your choosing. I'll help you learn them, that's my mission. Then we're going to go to another village for one more mission myself and we'll spar there." he said, his tone less anger and more pensive.

Maylee came to the river and looked around. It was just the two of them. She stared at the several chakra signatures that were faded slightly. Samuru's and... Maylee looked up when Samuru spoke to her. "Well...seeing how we both sure one element in commend. What Doton do you know?" Her eyes drifted to a point where the two signatures swirled slightly together. She snapped her eyes back to Samuru. "You're chuunin now, so, you must know more than me." She spoke to him. ...I don't like being here... She never liked the one that took her brother from her. She inhaled softly as her anger tried to surface. "So what do you have to teach your lil' sister."


"Mess with my Onii-chans, and I will burn you alive."

I've got exactly one elemental technique in me and its not doton." he turned his head away as he looked around, his face turning a little brighter until he looked back at her "Have you chosen your other buki styles yet?" he didn't want to teach her something she wouldn't have any use for. He moved slightly, his wrist knife dropping into his palm to fiddle with.

Maylee listened to Samuru and watch him as he looked around. She shook her head no. "Not yet. Just feeling really comfortable with what I know." She tapped her hand against the sheath case of one of her fans. She pulled her hand back into her pocket and tilted her head to the side. "What do you have in mind?" She asked as she watched him fiddle with a knife.
