Name: K'lar
Age: 37
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual, but generally uninterested in such things.
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Searchrider (if possible!)
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Weaver

Physical Description: Tall, thin, and tan. There are times when some question whether or not he eats at all, but he’ll be the first to assure you primly that he is perfectly healthy, thank you. Despite this, he keeps himself almost immaculately groomed; his hair and dress is always neatly cared for, and he sports a carefully tailored beard. His hair is a light brown, revealing golden streaks in strong sunlight (and some grey, but don’t tell him that, please), and with his pale eyes, he could have been handsome. Instead he comes across as extremely proper and, well, a little sick. He at least has no prominent wrinkles to speak of yet, save for worry lines around his mouth and eyes.

Personality: Upon first meeting the tall and spindly K’lar, one might gather that he’s… well, a fairly prim individual. He takes great care in his appearance and first impressions are vital! Though he does his best to exude confidence, the longer one spends time with K’lar, the longer one will realize that, at his core, the dragonrider spends quite a bit of time fretting over the things he can control in his life. Control is everything. Occasionally he stresses himself out so much about making sure every aspect of his life is in order that he can’t even do anything. Of course, with age, he has learned how to force himself to stop, take a few deep breaths, and come up with a more logical solution.

Though he may act disdainful or indifferent, K’lar is truly and deeply concerned about what people think about him. If someone openly dislikes them, then he will scorn them at every turn, and will undoubtedly talk bad about them if their name ever came up in a conversation. If that person were to suddenly be nice to him, however, well… K’lar is not one to hold grudges, and acceptance is something he craves. Those that earn his trust in full will be apart of a tiny, but dearly beloved group of friends. For those friends, K’lar would do just about anything for—even something publicly humiliating. That’s a true sign of K’lar’s adoration for you, even if may grumble about it later. Those that betray that trust will earn his ever-lasting contempt; there’s a difference for him between someone not liking you initially, and someone stabbing you in the back.

Loyalty is something the man prizes dearly; he is loyal to High Reaches, loyal to his wing, and loyal to whoever manages to worm his way under his carefully comprised layers. He prides himself in the strength of his mind rather than his body, and spends spare time reading when he can. He does love to learn—and he believes in being prepared, just in case.

Though his confidence has been built upon since his youth, K’lar will never be a leader. He can hardly trust himself at times, let alone even think about leading others.

Positive Trait List Eager to please, resourceful, loyal.
Negative Trait List Prone to overreacting, insecure, spiteful.
History: K’lar has no memories of his parents, and frankly is unconcerned about ever tracking down that missing family link. As far as he knows, he was the product of an accidental Flight. His foster mother treated him very well, and to this day, he is fond of her and stops by with little gifts from time to time.

Due to his frail build as a child and a disinterest in roughhousing with other peers his age, K’lar was often a target for being teased. He was never the strongest or the fastest, and heavy, manual labor was not his forte. Though the teasing at his expense never extended to anything extreme (at least physically), the boy became extremely self-conscious. He grew up focusing on what others would think of him, and was always highly aware of his actions, and how others might perceive them. Being invisible was quite preferable to being picked on—but being normal was more so. Rather than find a group where he might fit in better, K’lar simply decided to withdraw; his goal was to finish his chores as quickly as possible before returning to tasks he liked better, such as exploring the Weyr and daydreaming about hidden passages carefully concealed within the walls, or finding his very own trove of firelizards all for himself to have adventures with.

When he was Searched and deem fit to stand at 16, the boy finally had to make a tough decision; risk snide comments and mocking gestures if he accepted and if he failed, or decline and apply himself to a craft of some sort.

In retrospect, his choice was fairly obvious.

To his utter disbelief (and relief!), the boy managed to Impress his lifelong companion at his first Hatching, and threw himself into his chores as a Weyrling. It no longer mattered if he was not the most physically fit one of the bunch; he would do whatever his hatchling needed, and really, wasn’t that what mattered? Though he still tended to keep to himself, socializing became much easier with a common interest in mind, and K’lar was eager to join into any conversation that involved dragons.

As the years passed on, K'lar continued to proudly serve at High Reaches, but also took up Weavercraft as a way to pass the time. His nimble fingers and attention to detail made the work very pleasurable for him--and it helped soothe his frayed nerves, more often than not.

Name: Mnereth
Age: 21 Turns (Eveleth's virgin flight!)
Color: Blue
Size: 28' M

Physical Description: Mnereth is an average-sized blue. Where K'lar is tall and spindly, the blue is stocky and thick. He isn't fat, necessarily... just broad. Still, despite his girth, he is surprisingly delicate both on the ground and in the air, and moves with much more grace than one might expect.

Personality: Calm as a clear blue lake, steady as the rock of a mountain, and determined as an alpine wind, Mnereth will be a stabilizing force for his rider. He is so grounded, he might just take root were it not for his wings. He is quite comfortable with who he is, what his purpose in life is, and his unswerving loyalty to His. All else is trivial compared to these deep-seated faiths. Given this deep stability, he is rarely startled. Most every flash and crazy turn of life are taken in mild stride with calm confidence. In fact, it is confidence that fuels this mild-mannered reaction. Never arrogant, never pompous, he is nonetheless thoroughly and completely sure of himself. Mnereth is comfortable with his own strengths and weaknesses, as well as His', quietly accepting them even while pushing the limits of what still needs work.

Far be it from him to be boring though, oh no. For despite his perpetual, unruffled sensibility, he'll actually seek out fun and enjoyment – for His. Is there a party going on? Mnereth will want K'lar at it, and he will want him out whirling in a waltz or a toss dance as long as the Harpers play. As long as His is enjoying it, Mnereth is enjoying it. Whether the gathering be a small group of friends or a wild shindig, he is going to want K'lar to be at the center of the activity, and through his rider the blue can experience it vicariously. Many things he won't necessarily want to try, he'll be interested in having His try instead. Various foods, drink, music, and experiences will all be eagerly sampled and evaluated, either on his own or K'lar's senses. Mnereth's cares about His with an almost one-minded intensity, and he chooses to abstain from participating in his own socialization for the most part so he can better focus on supporting K'lar's through his. He is always in the back of K'lar's mind with reassuring words, and wants more than anything for K'lar to feel as confident about himself as the dragon does. This is not to say that the blue never dallies with the other dragons, it's just that such things take a definite backseat to the needs of His. Though Mnereth himself is an easy-going and confident dragon, the anxieties of K'lar affect him deeply.

When it comes to this dallying, he's certainly bright enough and an adoring companion, but his intelligence rarely manifests itself verbally. His communication may in fact make him seem nearly simple. He's not the type to use a long and complicated phrase where a single heartfelt word or two will suffice. He will view this as one of his own personal strengths, and may actually develop a slight tinge of disdain for exceptionally wordy dragons or humans or, more often, portray an air of vast amusement at the loquacious person.

Mnereth has a definite tendency towards daydreaming, and will have to be hauled back to the here and now at important times. He'll notice beauty even in the most ordinary of things. Things a human might overlook as commonplace and ordinary fill him with wonder. Unfortunately, this fascination tends to drive other thoughts right out of his head. He'll be lost in fawning over a blooming flower, completely forgetting that the pair of them have watchrider duty in a candlemark. His rider will have to remember these things for him, and remind him rather often what's happening next in the day. It's not that he'll avoid work purposefully, he simply forgets.

Thankfully, with a little bit of reminding, Mnereth will take to duty with a steadfast delight. He appreciates a thorough and well-done job. Flying in a Wing will be a matter of pride, plain and simple. While he doesn't have the stamina of a brown, his experience has taught him how to be well aware of his strength and to conserve it. His patience serves him well, although once again K'lar will have to keep his attention on the job at hand since there will be many opportunities for the dragon to gawk at the slightest will o' wisp of prettiness. However, Mnereth has the ability to instantly follow orders and will prove that he is nowhere near as simple as he might seem. While he won't question orders, it will be because he'll instinctively understand the need of the Wing to work as a flawless single entity. He's good with teamwork and derives a definite pleasure in the precision effort of a group. Above all, Mnereth is really a very contented dragon. He finds joy in the simplest of things, loves without condition, and is placid and steadfast as a quiet spring morning.

Despite his fondness for all things lovely, Mnereth is quite the awkward fellow around females. His attempts at flattery are often laughably comical, the words unrefined and simplistic. It's not that he doesn't enjoy the company of females: quite the opposite, in fact. He'll anticipate mating flights with both delight and dread, thrilling in both the chase and the win, should he win, but also somewhat concerned that he'll make a mistake. This is the one area that his nearly infallible self-confidence will lag, and this time it will be up to rider to boost the dragon rather than the other way around.

Why K'lar?

Mnereth is K'lar's soulmate. The dragon will share with His the simple happiness in life and he will help him to recover even more swiftly from the disappointments and travails he will undoubtedly suffer in their life. K'lar should never feel insecure with Mnereth by his side, as the blue continuously loves his rider with each passing turn and will never break the trust that K'lar requires. The confidence Mnereth has will help to ease the rider, and together the two can be calm and pass the evenings with quiet mental musings. Mnereth will push him, too, though, asking him to experience more of life, for his sake. Their shared loyalty will make them a strong asset to the Weyr, even if they are not the leading type. Never doubt that His and he are perfect complements for one another, because Mnereth does not.
