Aww. The dragon within the Mint Chocolate Chip Egg was sweet! Marinel couldn’t help the smile that crossed his features at the egg’s encouragement. “I’m sure you’ll find yours, too!” He said, cheerfully. “Good luck!”

He headed towards the Night Sky Egg next. Was this egg enjoying itself? He reached out to touch it. “You’re beautiful already, I can’t wait to see what happens when you hatch!”

Matotoka - He/Him

As well as I can be, day to day, he answered, carefully turning over any thought little Eggshell may have been looking at so it could get a better look if it so wished. For it, he had no secrets. There is no reason to worry, but I do appreciate it. Maybe he was too sad a thing for this little one, but if he came by, he hoped what he had in his head would help the little one think well of him.

Candidate Jaiyce Western: He/Him pls.

He listened carefully, it never hurt to go over the rules one more time right? Although he’d been drilled on them so many times he was practically dreaming them. But…..then again, he remembered some of his earliest days in the kitchen, and fought a shudder. He had really better be on his best- make that best ever- behaviour. And the next words spoke rang in his head “More lives than your own depend upon your good behvaiour.” He’d seen threadfall, and seen how hard everyone had worked and- He forced his mind back to the Candidate Masters words with a deep inhale. “Welcome them.” He held tight to that piece of wisdom.

Waiting his turn he stepped out onto the sands and took a moment to orient himself. He saw Killakeeth looking fierce, proud, and regal, and her mate- Teth beside who had welcomed them. For just a moment he put all the awe and respect he had for the work Killa had done into his eyes before he lowered lashes on his oh so pale silver eyes and bowed to the Queen and her mate.

With a small nod and a slightly wan smile he greeted Vosin, his eyes darting briefly to the gold knots on her shoulder again before he gave a slightly smaller nod to the other rider, F’ell.

Then it was time to greet the eggs. He couldn’t help but pause for a moment to let the situation just wash over him- his life had changed so much in such a short time. But this moment wasn’t about him, it was about these lovely new lives brought into the world. And so, with that thought resting in his mind he walked up the sands, and right up to the Blue and Purple Paint Egg breathing deep he let his fingers rest lightly on the shell and with another breath gently thought “Welcome, thank you for existing” and for a change he didn’t feel so corny, he was just genuinely happy to welcome a new egg into being.

Nikal - 19, he/him

He was tempted to snark back like he always did: Brown Paw Print. Buddy. All Nikal ever did was fall short of an expectation or two. “I’d make do” was practically a compliment at this point. Instead with a wry smile to himself, he let the egg be.

A lot of eggs were exuding tooth tickling happiness with some of the candidates, it was a little overwhelming. Deciding the least he could do was not harsh their mellow (what a courteous guy), Nikal visited with Bone Egg. His guard was still up out of habit, though that didn’t say much when dragonet could peel back as many layers as they felt. He wondered how the egg felt so far about the candidates visiting with it, especially sitting by some...colorful siblings.

- - -
Karunia - 20, she/her

“Whoa!” She automatically tried to steady the egg and gave a laugh. “I like your spirit,” she told Mint Chocolate Chip, patting its shell fondly. Far be it from her to stop a baby from breaking free early if it wanted to! “I met Green Olive earlier, it sounded like it was gonna do a dramatic entrance. Think you can one-up it?”

- - -
Stormy - 19, she/her

Bad, huh? She could only wonder what memories Shining Star had already collected from candidates. Stormy already had a good idea what the egg was would take from her, for instance. She might have felt bad imparting something non-positive to an egg, only it seemed...intrigued. Which in turn intrigued her. Morbid curiosity was a heck of a thing, especially when it found common ground.

Would you share later? she asked softly. I like listening to stories. Even the ones that don’t have happy endings. Maybe especially those. They always made her think more, even if it hurt. Unless they’re private...I’d understand saying no for that reason. A lot of people carry quiet hurts now. That’s why you’re so important.

- - -
Dhawsn - 29, he/him

Yes!! Dhawsn pumped his fist victoriously. One joke successful! He likes Eggshell’s style and laughed despite the lack of a punchline. We’ll workshop that later, yeah? he told it with a mental wink. ’Til then!

Nanner was next, and boy did he have the perfect joke for it. What’s up, lil’ buddy? he greeted it like they were old friends. Ya look real a-peel-in’, if ya didn’ know yet! In case yer bored, have a second joke: Whaddaya call two banana peels? A pair of slippers!

Xanael

A playful grin twitched across Xanael's face and he chuckled and sent a good little thought towards the egg before removing his hand. "Don't linger" It was a territorial little egg and he'd have loved to have had just a second more with it, but A'ral had been brutally blunt. Even one toe out of line, even one second too long...

He wouldn't linger, no matter the egg, no matter the personality inside. The anxiety of being tossed out for just taking a second to interact with an egg bit at him and he swallowed it and walked away to the Blue and Black Rosette Egg. Swallowing his feelings of worry, he touched it's shell.

Astriana (Western/Her)

Astriana had arrived to the sands with the other candidates, knowing she would be touching them on her own, which normally she would have been used to. However, she had hoped Etansi would have been by her side this time, ever since she had befriended the other after the beach clutch. Unfortunately, Etansi had gotten sick and was stuck in the infirmary. Between her and the worries she had for Ezyzu and Khamaith (who had been hurt during Threadfall), she had a lot on her mind. However, as A'ral gave his lecture to all of them, she knew she had to push them to the back of her mind. She was not going to upset her teacher, she had too much respect for the man. The young woman knew people kept doing stupid things during the touchings and hatchings, why A'ral had been so stern with his reminder of how they were supposed to behave.

Once they were given clearance to enter, she took a breath, her sharp ice blue eyes looking over to the parents of this clutch. She bowed to the parents, trying not to let Teth's exuberance get to her. Then she looked over the eggs, trying to decide which to go to first. As she approached, the shyness coming from one of them drew her attention. She gently walked over to Daisy Egg, placing a soft hand on its beautiful shell. While her face remained set, her eyes held gentleness in it. She was reminded of her little green firelizard, Liora, who was so timid around others.

Hello, little one. Everything will be okay and no one will judge you. We are all here for you guys and so are your siblings, she spoke in a soothing tone. She stroked the egg shell gently, putting all the warmth and reassurances she could into her mind.

((Demanthra and Monath are around too, if anyone wants to interact with them. A couple of candidates from HR could have come with them, just quote me so I know, either way))

Vesden || High Reaches || He/Him

Vesden smiled gently at the little rainbow egg. He hoped it was encouraging, the little one seemed to need encouragement and he wanted nothing more than to linger here and convince the poor little dear it would be alright. That would just be more overwhelming though, wouldn't it?

And the young man thought this would not be the hatchling for him, if any here were. This dragon would surely want someone who was more than him. It had a lot of personality, and it would likely be happy with someone more charismatic than himself. That was fine, but he privately wished the very best for this one.

He gave the shell a firm pat, trying to project supportive feelings. Time to move on.

The shining one next? Equal attention for the bright and dark shells. He approached the shining star egg and caressed the shell, running his palm up and down it's smooth surface, assessing what he was feeling from it for a moment.

You're as curious about us as we are about you, aren't you? Your ashen shelled sibling back there already rummaged around my head I think, if you'd like to sate your curiosity this is the day to do it, I wouldn't object to you digging around as well.

oops I posted first thing after waking up and did something dumb LOL

Rio - He/Him

Why thank you, Rio replied to the Flying Heart Egg's compliment regarding his candidating ability. He was hardly perfect - a forgotten test here and there, that sort of thing - but he did like to think he did a pretty good job, overall. He certainly could have done much worse. You are very good at egging, and your shell feels pretty hard from out here. You'll be ready soon enough, I bet!

But they weren't to linger too long, so with a polite feeling of goodbye, he removed his hand and moved to the nearby Teal and Yellow Spiral Egg, offering a friendly smile to the other candidates gathered around it. The egg seemed very keen on the tactile element of the Touching, and so he gave it a gentle scritch - maybe it would appreciate a sensation different from the pats and strokes.

Bukichi - he/him

Laughing quietly to himself, it was with great reluctance that Bukichi pulled his hand away. The whole prospect of touching the rest of the eggs seemed much less daunting now as a whole. Aryale would be given a gentle nudge with his shoulder to announce his presence before he reached out to touch the Blue & Black Rosette egg, bidding it a greeting. Big day, huh?

Lauthisen -- he/him

The surge of pleasure was entirely unexpected, and Lauthisen had to take a moment to recover from his surprise. He... never really thought about it, he supposed, but everyone liked to feel good. So. Yeah. Maybe? He let his hand drop from the shell, but he was glad the egg seemed to be having a good time.

The Green Olive Egg was next. Hello, and welcome to the world.
--

Phryana - she/her

The egg's pure and simple gratitude was enough to have her bend, pressing a gentle kiss to its colorful shell. The poor dear reminded her of some of the young girls brought into the establishment, wide-eyed and entirely out of their element. It stirred up the same sort of feelings. Luckily, this egg would be adored and cherished by someone--never abused.

Reflecting on those gentle feelings, she pauses to brush her fingers against the Purple and White Swirl Egg. "I have no doubt that everyone will be happy to meet you." She murmured at it, offering it her own quiet contentment.

--

Aerden he/him

Aerden stood patiently, unfazed with the lack of response or the dragonet's search through his thoughts. In fact, he was perfectly content to stay there with the Blue Cloud Egg until it was finished with him, not about to interrupt it for a second time!

Huarwar||Western||He/Him

As the thoughts within the egg whirled around to him Huarwar stood firm, feeling the push that almost came and then held itself back. There was strength inside of that egg and he couldn't help but smile as he listened to it. No, he didn't judge anyone based upon their looks, the sweetest person could look the most harsh. A feeling of reassurance, of nothing to fear, had Huarwar pause and blink for a moment before he nodded his head. He thanked the young one inside of the egg before removing his hand and scanning the rest of the clutch to find where to go next.

As he pondered where to go next he felt Aelyx's fingers move gently across his back. He turned his head to watch her move to another egg, a smile on his lips.

Turning his thoughts back to the eggs, Huarwar made his way through the clutch to a large dark egg that seemed to be watching everything. His hand reached out and was placed against the dark shell of the Charcoal Egg

I don't blame you for watching everyone here. It must be strange to have all of these people you don't know suddenly come so close to your family.

Ruunan [HR] - 16 - he/him/his - Candidate/App Woodcrafter

Everything was… different, and yet still somehow the same. He had never left High Reaches Weyr before, and when the dragon emerged from Between, into a brilliant western sun, Ruunan found himself blinking and shielding his eyes. It was so bright. The air was warmer, and somehow… happier? Could air even be happier?

His heart beat a quick rhythm in his chest, excitement building somewhere deep within. He bowed to the rider and their dragon, murmuring his thanks, before joining the throng of candidates. Nyara’s presence- or lack thereof- was definitely noticeable. Mictecath was still grumpy with him, but both had told him how they longed to accompany him… but no. It was time for him to stand on his own two feet. Or something like that.

A small, delighted smile curled at his lips as he listened to A’ral, paying mind to the other candidatemaster and their assistants. He entered the sands and bowed to Teth- what a large brown!- and the lovely queen Killakeeth, before absorbing the sight of the sands.

There were less eggs than the last clutch for which he had stood- which was better, in a way. Less pressure. And also more time to focus on each one… and hopefully less bloodshed. He shook his head a little, ridding his mind of such thoughts, and stepped towards the Gay Flag Egg, letting his hand rest gently on its shell.

Hello… He began, focusing on cheerful thoughts of sunshine and western beaches, it is good to meet you!

Keleres [WW] - 21 - she/her/hers - JM Masseuse (spy)

Keleres joined the group of milling candidates, paying firm attention to A’ral’s words. Danzik was a familiar sight- and Kel held nothing but respect for the Candidatemaster second, despite her fearsome reputation.

She gave Marinel a small wave when she glimpsed him in the crowd, fighting a slight blush that spread across her cheeks. Well, maybe whoever was watching might attribute it to the heat… it didn’t matter! Today was Touching Day, and that was exciting in itself! She bowed to Killakeeth and Teth both, complimenting them on their clutch.

Something about the Teal and Yellow Spiral Egg spoke to her, and she laid her hands upon its shell, a smile spreading across her face. “You really are pretty. What an intriguing eggshell you have!”

Tostokki [WW] - 18 - he/him/his - Bodyguard

Weyrs were definitely… something. There was still a great sense of not fitting in, and he found himself lurking in the background more often than not simply because he did not know any other way to be. Tosk watched the crowd of young hopefuls gather, and followed a little behind. Though his face was as expressionless as always, curiosity lingered within him. He hadn’t cultivated enough dragon-experience to appreciate how momentous an occasion this was, but even he realised this was certainly an opportunity for which to be glad, and he wasn’t about to make a faux-pas so soon after arriving.

He bowed as he entered the hatching grounds, mouth forming a silent thank you. He was glad Killakeeth had Searched him, even if it had come as a big surprise. Now he just had… to… Impress? Could that be done before they hatched? Could a dragon decide on a candidate simply by feeling the touch of their hand against its shell? Dragons were such strange… fascinating creatures. No doubt Toskarra had plenty of stories about their heroism and legendary feats of strength and goodness.

Tosk still couldn’t quite shake the feeling he didn’t belong. What made someone a good rider? He stared as the candidates began to touch shells, wondering if he really was allowed to just… go and touch one? Maybe he should just brush it with a fingertip? Best not to risk anything- harming the unborn dragon babies was unwise in any circumstance.

Of all the eggs, it was the Charcoal Egg that drew his eye. In a way it reminded him of… well, himself, really. It seemed to just… lurk. Perhaps it was guarding its siblings? He stopped by its shell and let a few fingertips rest on the monochrome egg.

It was surprisingly hard and warm, and he lifted a brow in almost-amusement. These eggs were tougher than he looked! Still… better safe than sorry.

Jacquol—Western—She/Her
Ohhhhh boy, Shining Star didn’t even know the half of it! Or... well, it could read minds. Maybe it DID know. Still, Jackie grinned, wide and toothy at the egg’s reaction. She had good feelings about this one already, and was really ready to just stay a spell and gove the egg one of her stories... but a glimpse of the prowling, watchful candidatemasters nearby made her think better of it. “I can’t stay, but tell you what. Next time we visit I’ll tell you part of a story, and then every time after that I’ll tell you a little more. Got it?” She gave the shell a final pat before sidling away, hands moving to another egg before she could be caught lingering.

Blue and Purple Paint Egg was where she ended up, half hovering near, half using it as a convenient shield against the eyes of the candidatemasters. “Hey, don’t mind me,” she whispered to it, giving it a few fond strokes and tracing part of the white swirl across its side. “You’re a pretty thing, aren’t you? Clouds ‘round sunset when the blue bleeds into pink and purple over the horizon...” Memories of her time at sea came flooding into her mind’s eye and she sighed, happily remembering as she caressed the egg. “This is the right place to be if you’re going to love the sea, eggy, I suppose...”

Meztli—Western—They/Them/He/Him
Ha! Well Meztli definitely thought they had good taste, sure! Art was a matter of opinion though, so maybe others would disagree. They definitely thought Funfetti looked like a fun time though! Gorgeous in its abandon, just doing what it wanted, being who it wanted to be, and forget what anyone else said or thought... you go, egg!

Maybe that was also why, when they moved on from the bombasticly colored egg, their bext stop was the comparatively plain Eggshell Egg. That was a form of being yourself too though—in a clutch this colorful, ir was daring, bold to take the solid-color route. It was quite classy, really—would the occupant be similarly stand-out? They leaned in a bit, hand recreating the dot-to-dot pattern it’d traced on Funfetti onto the shell of the pale egg. “What do you think of all this, huh? A fun time? Or maybe we’re interrupting a nap?

Lesta / Female / HR
The Olive Egg’s response seemed… almost a little… was that sarcasm? Lesta waited until she had stepped away from the egg to let her mind chew on that. One thing that was certain: she definitely had a guilty conscience. But it wasn’t her f—no, no. It was. It always was.

She took a moment to compose herself, shoving those thoughts into a box for later. When she touched the Night Sky Egg, it was with another friendly greeting and a focus on what the baby wanted.

Kainna / Female / Western
She smiled as the egg reluctantly humored her. Ahhh, I won’t keep you, then. She gave the egg a friendly pat. I hope you meet some people who’re more interesting than me! With that, she stepped aside for the next candidate and made her acquaintance with the Sunset Egg. My name’s Kainna. How are you today?

Vitryx / Male / Western
Vitryx’s fingers twitched instinctively when the Bone Egg responded so sharply, but he didn’t pull away. The eggs, no matter how prickly, loud or irate, were essentially harmless. This one was no exception. Earning its respect through some unspoken quality, however, was still very gratifying. He said his goodbyes and moved on, resting his fingertips upon the powder blue shell of the Blue and Black Rosette Egg, nodding to Bukichi as he did so. It was always good to see him smiling.
Tsunake

Vasadryx / Male / Western
Aww. Of course he’d tell others about the egg! That’s what they were here for, after all. At the sound of a snort, he glanced sideways at Lauthisen, his brows raised with clear disdain at the younger man’s look. When they parted ways, however, a broad grin spread across his face.

He continued along, touching nearby eggs one by one, and soon came to the Daisy Egg. With the same soft touch as before, he laid his palm on the white shell. Sensing its shyness, he lowered his voice when he spoke, hoping he wouldn’t scare it away. “Well hello, sweetheart.”

Nyrida
Nyrida simply nodded at the candidate master's cold words. It was to be expected. Their training had led to this moment, and there was no room for even a single mistake. It was her first touching; naturally, she'd take it extremely seriously. She dutifully bowed to the queen and her energetic mate, before glancing over the eggs. Drawn towards a brilliantly-colored egg, so different from her own preferences, she cautiously approached The Gay Flag Egg. Gently, cautiously, she placed her hand on the surface, careful to hide her anxieties and worries from the egg as she attempted to radiate openness and warmth. She kept the uncertainty in the back of her mind, where the egg might not see it--but she wasn't sure she was prepared for this moment. Still...she remained strong and ready for the egg, whatever it might give her.

Kyzier
Kyzier grinned, eager enough that the candidate master's harsh words rolled right off of them. They felt no fear--they knew what to do. Despite their recent searching, they'd been trained, and were confident in their abilities. If the words were meant to strike fear or inspire a solemn respect, they did not do that--but they did remind Kyzier of the gravity of the situation. They couldn't get kicked out now! Not when their goals were so close.

They gave a sweeping bow to Killakeeth, and then another for Teth--he deserved it too, didn't he? They spotted Vosin, too, and gave a wide grin and a casual wave. Then, they surveyed the eggs. All the eggs were so great, how could they choose? Big would be good, of course, but they found themselves drawn towards the brilliantly colored Hot Pink 80's Egg. Such a handsome, brilliant, and beautifully pink egg! As they laid their hand upon the shell, they wondered if the egg knew how lovely it was. Either way, Hello! they thought towards it, excited to meet their first unhatched-dragon-mind. How are you?

Xahteis
Xahteis had never been a candidate before, despite living at the Weyr for his early life. He doubted he'd Impress, but he had his reasons for being here. Like all things, he was determined towards perfection. He'd do it right, unlike some of the other candidates. Some would probably get kicked out for upsetting the eggs--it was inevitable. But not him. Lonely and not worth a dragon as he might be, he knew he was capable of following directions and doing things flawlessly.

So, after a simple yet dutiful bow to the queen, and a quick, uncertain glance towards Teth, he paused to consider the eggs, which he realized he'd never actually done. None would be his, he assumed, but...he wasn't going to do it without thinking it through. He nodded to himself as he approached the Ace Flag Egg, trying to shift his mind to a more positive view as he did so. Other things could be filed away for the moment; all that mattered was this egg. He carefully, cautiously put his hand on it, offering a silent mental greeting. Despite his care and caution, there was some underlying...excitement? Some eagerness, a love of dragons, a hidden hope that maybe, just maybe, he might Impress.

Orryxa
Despite her frivolous personality, her desire to bring cheer to others, and forced optimism, Orry took the lecture seriously. She nodded, smiling and sending good vibes towards her fellow candidates. She could do this. She could Impress and make everyone proud! She glanced around to see if her father and Ansheth were around, but didn't spot them upon a quick look about. That was alright; they'd be there for the big day of the hatching, she knew that.

With deliberate pride and gentle enthusiasm, she made her way towards the clutch, bowing gracefully to the queen, before making a beeline towards The Night Sky Egg. Other eggs were flashier or brighter in coloring, but the beauty of the stars...it appealed to her. One might have assumed she'd be drawn towards something that stood out, with bright colors, but...this egg stood out in its own way. It was so lovely, she thought to herself, before clearing her mind and putting a hand on the egg. Hi, I'm Orry. Nice to meet you!
