Again? Again? Really? Veltanna was getting annoyed with getting hit in the back. At least they were almost done. Moirath was also ready to be done. With all the dye on them Moirath and Veltanna felt like drowned colorful Wherries.

Paint splattered violently across Bossuth's scarred form when he failed to dodge away from a clump of painted strands that he could have swore he'd already dodged. R'iz sighed sadly as he did his best to brush it from the little bronze's shoulder, fingers dying the same color as if to mark to their shame. As if it weren't bad enough that they were the worst fighters in the entire clutch, now at least they were caught red-handed at their incompetence.

This was starting off splendidly. Bossuth let his eyes fade to gray.

Everything could simply be over now and that would be fine. If this had been a real threadfall Bossuth would surely be dead at this point, or so he was thinking as a giant clump of the strands slapped him in the face and wound wetly around his head and stubby head knobs. His hide started to fade just a bit as he thought about how much of a let down it must have been for his Radish to realize he got the very worst dragon his clutch had to offer. Though a gentle reprimand full of love followed that line of thinking, he couldn't shake it as his claws pulled the strands from his face.

I don't wish to end our lives so soon. At this rate I fear we'll leave Pern quickly during our second threadfall. He relayed in response, sagging visibly as he flew. No amount of coaxing from R'iz would pull him from it, as Bossuth knew that his heavy scars showed the extent of his failure. All he could do was hope in real threadfall that he could twist so his was never touched.

It was going to be futile, in the end it always was but R'iz had hoped that Bossuth would at least respond to the love and encouragement that he sent. Instead it simply seemed that the bronze was running out of energy and willpower quickly. If it kept up they wouldn't really last the entire game but by sheer force of desire and fear to disappoint Shar and Yulan, let alone their teachers.

Sighing out in frustration, the bronze banked and felt the slick slide of paint down his right wingsail. At least they would be painted brightly to show why they were going to be held back.

Both of them could have wailed silently together in abject embarrassment as they were so focused on trying to be something better than failures and flew all but straight into a clump that tangled about Bossuth's legs and left bright red tracks down his rear wingsails. His eyes flashed an irritated orange for just a moment before fading back to a light gray that seemed to match his hide anymore.

Shar was going to be pissed at them.

No, they hadn't been doing well at all, but for the briefest of moments it appeared that they were going to at least avoid getting any of the larger clumps of paint soaked thread come tumbling down on them. That was until one wet slap close to where he could hear met R'iz's ears... and ankle... and leg. Of all the things that he should have been concerned with it wouldn't have been his straps that would bother him usually, but he'd just replaced them after the threadfall that had eaten the leather away on the right side.

So while it likely made no sense to anyone that might have heard him, save Bossuth, R'iz let loose a litany of angry curses into the winds. Sure he'd have worse to worry about soon, they were far from over. But he was irritated.

This will take more than the average wash to get all of it off my Radish. Bossuth said somberly, thinking of all the time the massive stains of paint would take to remove. R'iz, still irritated in a near violent fashion, just waved an arm when a rope slithered across his bronze's chest and arm. At least at this point it wasn't thread, but they weren't earning themselves any bonuses by certain.

This should at least be over soon. That was the thought that kept running through both of their minds. Not that they needed to get better, not that they should certainly do so for the sake of the Weyr and those that they loved, not that living would mean much. Both of them had all but given up hope that they would make it through many threadfalls with their terrible luck and accuracy.

No, they were going to die soon enough and leave behind a cloud of those that wouldn't remember either of them. Shar and Yulan, maybe Nalacko, others would see the memory of the two of them fade with time. Especially as they were the most worthless pair High Reaches had ever seen.

Bossuth, all that line of thinking is actually making you grayer. I think we need to...

Paint on top of paint. It was the only color other than gray and scar tissue anymore.

This had done nothing to prove to them that they were anything but failures.

Bossuth, why are you so sad? Anakumath couldn't help but send a nudge of adoration and support to her clutchmate who seemed to be taking the drill rather hard.

Martirae, on the other hand, was frustrated as she peeled a piece of rope from Anakumath's hide to let it drop to the ground. Bah!

Martirae could feel Anakumath's thoughts drifting just for a moment as she assessed the other dragons in the air after her little support-nudge to Bossuth. They didn't go to any dragon in the sky, but to one with darker hide, one who wouldn't ever be flying so close to them in drills or during Threadfall.

While Anakumath was still attentive enough to move when asked, they got a nice splatter of paint for the momentary daydream.
