Ar’twa of Blue Mikkeluth
Profile Link

Name: Ar’twa
Sex: Male
Age: 19
Name day: unassigned
Location: High Reaches
Position: Wingrider
Sexual Orientation: Flexibly straight
Relationship Status: Available

Physical Description: Huge hulking man six feet three inches tall, broad shouldered, ash blond hair and hazel eyes, strong

Personality: Aroontwa is a large man with a resting face that can scare a small child. If he didn’t talk, then people would assume that he is angry. Thankfully he talks, and often, at length, about anything exciting. He does not just get excited, he gets ebullient and basically exudes enthusiasm and high spirits. He is also pretty flexible and easy going in his opinions, willing to listen and be persuaded as well as a little easily influenced by others. But he is free from concerns and worry, rarely gets anxious about things, and is generally carefree about most anything.

At times he is a rather absentminded, thinking and being excited more than being aware of the surroundings and his actions. Thankfully, he hasn’t hurt anyone yet. But it can be disconcerting to have a giant bouncing male waving his hands around and generally acting like a small child at the drop of a hat. He is really, really easily excited, about almost anything and will be uncritically enthusiastic about people or things. He is excited for others when they receive something, and to the extreme. He is often perplexing to others, and doesn’t really understand why. It makes him sad when others shy away from him or whisper about him. He will forgive and forget just as easily as being excited, which can be a bad thing in that he gets hurt over and over again sometimes.

Positive Trait List: ebullient, easy going, carefree
Negative Trait List: absentminded, excitable, over forgiving

History: roontwa’s parents are subdued individuals and didn’t know how to handle an over excitable child. They did the best they could, and encouraged him in his pursuits...of well everything… and when he finally circled back to glasswork around the time to become apprenticed they pounced on it and sent him off to the Glasscraft hall that was thankfully within the hold he was born in. There he was looked upon with scorn at his excitement until he proved to be very adept with glass blowing and have gentle hands when needed. His excitable nature caused exasperation in the masters and he often asked questions at inappropriate times.

Though he got along well with everyone it seemed, he didn’t make many true friends. He was considered strange, and girly despite his appearance, and while others were fine with having him around, only three really sought him out. The girly part came from his mannerisms reminding the boys of an eager little girl. He would wave his hands about and jump up and down as well as squeal. But Aroontwa was happy anyway.

Then thread came back. The terror and fear that so many felt affected Aroontwa, who spent the time after thread helping those that were injured to adapt and learn their new lives. One person that he was determined to help was his friend who was injured. His friend would never be able to be a glass worker now. She was in constant pain and bed bound now. While keeping up with his studies, he spent most of his free time visiting his friend and those others that were bed bound, reading stories, delivering meals, and generally trying to make life better for those that were the worst hit. THe teasing also abated as he had proven himself capable of keeping a level head in the crisis of threadfall even. He was excitable, but did not panic.

Origin of Name: Another colt of the “Flaebe” mare was “Mikkel”, born 1818. He was son of the “Flaebestallion”, and was famous for his results in horseracing. Even though he always drew a carriage the 6 Danish miles (41 km.) to the racing ground in a forced speed, he was only defeated once, when he was 16 years old, in a race in Copenhagen. “Mikkel” had been ridden against a clod, and his chest was sore in the left side. It was the only time another horse bested him in a race.

These races were popular among the people, and gave the Knabstrupper the reputation of being powerful and with a great working capacity. “Mikkel” is probably the most famous horse in the Knabstrup breed, and from where Mikkeluth gets his name.

Inspiration: Knabstrupper

The Knabstrupper, also called Knabstrup horse, is a Danish breed of horse with an unusual range of coat coloration. Coat patterns range from solid to a full leopard-spotted coat, with many variants in between. The spotted coat is caused by a genetic mechanism called the leopard complex. The spotted color patterns common in the Knabstrupper are seen in other breeds, such as the Appaloosa horse, though the two breeds developed independently of one another. The breed generally has either warmblood or Baroque horse conformation.

Some Knabstruppers are born with solid colors, such as bay or chestnut.

The Knabstrupper breed was first established in 1812 in Denmark. A chestnut mare with leopard complex blanket markings was bred to a solid-colored stallion, producing a colt with dramatic spotting. The mare, known as the "Flaebe" mare produced many progeny.

All of her children were said to have fantastic colours, and it is claimed she never had a solid-colored foal. The “Flaebe” mare became the breed mother of the Knabstrup horse. She was once bred to a yellow “Frederiksborg” stallion, and their foal was a colt, named “The Flaebestallion”. He became the foundation for the new spotted breed. The “Flaebestallion” also had a very unusual colour as well. He was essentially lighter of colour, was often mentioned as having more than 20 different colours in his coat, and he had a special metal shining glow.

This breed was once very popular, but later was crossbred with other horses, and whether any purebreds from this breed remain is not certain. They do well in dressage and show jumping, and are used in general riding, as carriage and as circus horses. In 1971, three Appaloosa stallions were imported to Denmark to add new blood to the Knabstrupper breed.

Knabstruppers today are bred in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Netherland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and most recently, the Czech Republic, Australia, and New Zealand.

Personality: Hello world! Mikkeluth is here! Equal pats friendly and energetic, this dragon could never be considered shy. He's just as happy to trot up to the wallflowers as he is those basking in the limelight. No amount of rank or hide color will keep this blue at bay, and he'll happily push his rider into any social circle. The more the merrier, after all, and Mikkeluth would much prefer to be surrounded by dear friends!

As a hatchling, he'll have no problems running his rider ragged as he burns through the energy of youth. Unfortunately, even as he ages, Mikkeluth isn't likely to slow down anytime soon. He can't help but have energy in spades, and doesn't seem to know when to slow down or stop. On the one hand, this means he never seems to shy away from putting in the work or effort needed during his training; on the other hand, it means he might well wear out both his rider and clutchmates and run them ragged. Mikkeluth prefers to be a doer than a listener, which can get him in trouble. If his rider isn't careful, this blue might well misunderstand the request, or leap into the fray before he was commanded to do so and upset the entire plan!

To make matters worse, this energetic blue doesn't have much by way of attention span, which can cause him no amount of trouble. Not only does he tend to want to go-go-go, but very little seems to capture his interest for long. It's not that he's not enjoying himself, but Mikkeluth tends to easily be swayed by new stimulation and new interests. Sure, they might be in the middle of practicing a wing drill, but then he might very well veer off and try practicing something else -- even if that's not the order! Or perhaps, while on his way to hunt, he instead decides he wants a bath instead--and drags his ride, and all his gear, right into the lake without nary a thought. Certainly, Mikkeluth doesn't mean any real harm, but he doesn't often think situations through.

Competitive by nature, Mikkeluth really, really likes to win, or come out on top in whatever fashion that might be. Among his clutchmates, he wants to be the fastest and speediest dragon; he wants to do the most flappies; he wants to win every race. As an adult, there's nothing he doesn't think he can't do, and do better, than those around him. Oh, he's not a cruel beast, and would never look down upon his competition (especially when they don't even know they're in a competition)--but rest assured this blue is keeping score and is playing to win. Whatever he sticks his nose in, you can bet Mikkeluth will do his best to come out on top--even when there's nothing to be won.

Unfortunately, when Mikkeluth doesn't win, he can be dubbed a sore loser. The kindness he's most known for can come to a screeching halt, and he's known to sulk or pout, or worse, throw a tantrum. All of his energy, instead of fueling his usual friendly nature, instead fuels his fit of ire and aggravation. Of course, this blue inherited this trait honestly--like his bronze sire, Aresoth, MIkkeluth doesn't take losing well at all. While this might not look to be an issue as a weyrling, as a full grown dragon he'll be even harder to handle, and his rider will have to endure these nasty moments with great patience.

Thankfully, with a bit of time, Mikkeluth can usually find comfort in some sort of distraction. Instead of thinking about how he lost some competition, he can find some new race to win; instead of lashing out and growling about how his wingmate doesn't deserve such a pretty green, he can instead focus on the new green that's rising, or take comfort in the claws of another. There's always something out there that eventually can draw the blue dragon back into happier territory, and once found, he'll be back to being his gregarious self in no time.

Positive Traits: Energetic, Kind, Friendly
Negative Traits: Distracted, Competitive, Sore Loser

Holly Egg: A small egg with a warm shell.

Adult Size: 25’
Physical Attributes: Mikkeluth is on the smaller side for a blue, but that only works out in his favor. He is quick on wing, and as agile as any green. Despite his smaller size, he is strong, and able to outfly even some of his fellow blues in terms of stamina. His legs are long, his haunches strong. His wings are a bit on the small side, but that only helps his fancy flying.

Additional Notes: Mikkeluth is a very fast dragon--even for a blue! On ground and on wing, he's a blue who tends to leave even his rider behind, and must circle back to keep up with him. Racing (especially when on wing) is one of his favorite past times and will never be something outgrow.

When it comes to flights, Mikkeluth is always game! He loves the competition involved with flights, but unfortunately, does have an expectation that he'll win. The real challenge will be getting this blue to find a partner he'd be willing to settle down with long-term--the thrill of the chase is very tempting, and he might not realize that sometimes, there's more to a flight than simply winning.

Impression Effect: While no less distracted or excitable, Aroontwa won't have as much a need to bounce around quite as haphazardly as he used to. He is a dragonrider, after all, and with Impression comes at least a small amount of decorum. Thankfully, he'll have other outlets on which to focus his ebullience and over all energy--and he'll still likely always talk with his hands. Just in a less jarring and haphazard way!

Why Me? Watch out world -- no really, you had better watch out because Mikkeluth and Aroontwa are not at all the most self-aware weyrlings out there. With an absentminded rider, and a distracted dragon, it's highly possible these two will be like fire and oil. Ah, but Mikkeluth would have no other, and Aroontwa suits him ever so perfectly!

To start, there was only one Candidate on the Sands that could keep up with Mikkeluth's own over-abundance of energy, and that was Aroontwa! This blue will always be energetic, and the two will always find a willing and energetic companion in the other. Never will Aroontwa need to fell out of place or unaccepted, for this blue loves him just the way he is. Where Aroontwa's family weren't sure what to do with so much energy, and where others may have found him strange, Mikkeluth thinks he hung the sun and the moons--and will be as good a playmate and friend as Aroontwa could wish for.

Additionally, Mikkeluth is a competitive beast, who does rather enjoy racing and winning. While he's a bit of an oblivious beast, he has enough drive and focus to help Aroontwa find more direction in his life. He'll gain a new-found purpose, and be able to put his energy (and Mikkeluths) into the betterment of Pern. On the flipside, Aroontwa's breezy nature will help Mikkeluth when he loses or finds himself in a foul mood. The blue does not do well when he doesn't win (an inherited trait from his father) but his rider will be the perfect balm to his bruised hearts, and should be able to help distract him from the negativity.

Assuming the two survive weyrling training, their energy will be put to great use by both Weyr and Wing.
