3. You caught a haul full of a school of fingertails.

Fishing was far, far less dangerous than fighting thread, and honestly, G'ar was quite content to devote himself to the effort. He knew, perhaps better than some, how much the Weyr was hurting... and while he might not be a wingsecond anymore, he still paid attention. Perpetually paranoid about his dragon's safety, and now K'tos' and his dragon's as well... the man was keenly aware of their struggles. But thankfully fishing was more or less safe, and it helped him to feel like he was contributing, and burned off his perpetually anxious energy. He could never do enough, in his opinion, to repay the Weyr for giving him his dragon, and his life... but as he caught his breath and checked over the haul of fingertails that he and (perfect, sweet, wonderfully happy) Marasemeth had brought in... it was a start.

1-10. You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. You thrash around and try hard to free yourself, but all you wind up doing is breathing in the salt-water. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. Outside of being a little traumatized, roll a D4 to see what the results of your poor fishing happened to be!

Your net was torn and will require some patching, using up some of the Weyr's supplies. Any fish that might have been caught in it are now free to swim another day, and you bring in nothing for the day. Outside of wounded pride, and wet clothes, you're fine to continue fishing another day. [-5 points] If you are a rider with XP points, take your two highest stats. Change that number to negative. You now take that many extra negative points. (18+8=26)

To be fair, it wasn't the first time L'an had ended up tangled in a net in the middle of the sea... even if it was the first time in over two decades. Still, he'd been fished out in the end, and was now sat silently on the shore, picking at the ripped net and slowly mending it back together while watching his Alcherath floating serenely on the water's surface. The green hadn't even noticed what had happened at first, although she'd been quite apologetic after when he'd gently chided her for being too distracted by the drifting clouds above to have noticed in time to help him. But how could he ever be mad at his own sweet, thoughtless dragon? They'd manage without one more net of fish, after all.

31-40: Surely you have a knack for this, for the water is teaming with sea life. Roll a D4 to find out how plentiful your catch is!

2. A dragon (your dragon maybe?) becomes a floating platform. He or she takes you (and his or her rider if it's not yours) a little bit further from shore. They mus have been lucky because you wind up catching quite a haul! Some yellowgills, redfins, and a rare green shellback are all brought in to be salted, boiled, smoked, and dried. Tasty! +10 points

If you are a rider, take your two highest stats. Whatever the total is, add those to the points you earn! (14+9=23)

The massive bronze made an excellent fishing platform, and drifting languidly on the sea's surface suited the bronze far more than any proper actual work... although he did remain alert, ever keep to please his rider. Still, drifting quietly out away from the Weyr, within sight of the shore, but only just... it was nice, A'iel decided. It wasn't rest time, not really... but it wasn't bad, not at all. And it seemed like they'd hit a spot of luck (in part, admittedly, thanks to Nasath plunging his head beneath the waves to watch for fish as they drifted) and before long, a veritable treasure trove of sea-life had been pulled to flop to lifelessness in the sacks slung over the dragon's neck and back.

This... was not at ALL the sort of sea-based activity that Jacquol enjoyed. Fishing was for fishers, not once-pirates! Still, she knew the sea better than most of these land-lubbers, so it wouldn't be bad... or so she'd thought. It was clear that her time ashore had somewhat scuppered her sea legs, and when a large wave came crashing while she muttered and fussed with the net she was pulling... woosh!! The nimble young lass was sent sprawling, soaked, onto her back, and the net turned loose to spill its catch back into the sea. The amused cackling of her green dragon did very little at all as well to mollify her, even if she could sense the faint thread of worry behind her bondmate's laughter. "I'm fine, I'm fine... just wet, and shardin' missing when I could just TAKE what I need rather than fussin' with these nets...!"

4. Yellowstripe and Whitefish over here! Those'll sure be tasty with some citrus, over rice, or in a lovely stew.

Fishing wasn't bad... Amna just really wished that she liked fish more than she did. It wasn't bad, and fish was better than nothing, but she'd always been more fond of wherry, or herdbeast, than fish. Still, she mused as she worked side by side with Zunulth to drag in a net modestly full of flopping fish, she'd grow to love it most likely. That or you'll hate it even more, and then I'll have to hear about it... the white grumbled. He for one didn't mind fish at all. Food was food, and without a pause or thought, Amna tugged one of the fatter, shimmering yellowstripe free to toss to the dragon, who caught it with a flashing snap of sharp teeth. You're right, you're right. It'll try to keep my belly-aching to a minimum, huh?

1. Oh-ho! You're in luck! You wind up finding some sea wherry and manage to hunt one down successfully! Thank Faranth--some real meat that isn't fish! Gain an extra +5 points.

Wione had a lot—a LOT—of fond memories on this beach. Or, well, at least ONE really good one, that she'd replayed so many times that it felt more like a hundred. But suffice to say that her wandering daydreams of a certain absent lover's touch were amply distracting, and it wasn't long before she'd ended up wandering up the shore, totally abandoning any pretense of fishing for silently striding along the shore, with Findith gliding silently overhead. When the sea wherry burst from the brush at her oblivious approach, the woman squealed and pitched over backwards to flop with an OOF in the sand... but thankfully Findith had been the faster, and by the time Wione was up and dusting her sandy rump off, the pale green had pinned the bird beneath her claws, and fresh red blood was turning the white shoreline a murkier brown. Well... at least they wouldn't be going home empty-handed, even if it was to an empty bed...!

Busy hands and a busy mind helped keep the pain away. That was something that X had learned very well over the last turn or two. So when the Weyr needed people to fish and bring in food to supplement their meager tithes, X had leapt at the chance. They didn't have drills or anything else to do, and it was good work. Hauling the nets and lines was also exhausting at times, and that made it easier to sleep, being worn out to the core. Gathering spiderclaws was far, far less effort... but they couldn't deny that the small shelled critters were valuable, and the wellbeing of the Weyr had to come first over personal desires. Plus... they really were dliecious.

Fish after fish, line after line, Raen (as well as the few others who'd perched upon the drifting brown dragon on the water's surface) was hauling them in. It wasn't work she was used to, but the woman was ever driven to do her part and more for the Weyr. Feeding her people was paramount, and if the Holds weren't going to do... well, she would. And she'd keep her un-gracious thoughts about the thankless trundlebugs who were letting the riders go hungry to herself, thank you very much.
