((The first encounter with Team Plasma will be after everyone's beaten the first gym. Probably some time tonight or the next day in RP time. Trust me, we'll get there soon))
Necessary? What kind of pokemon would ever consider it necessary to be in a pokeball? One corrupted by humans, of course.
“I see. Well then. Thanks you for your time, Dali and D-Vee,” N told the two pokemon with a quick bow of the head while standing up. Now he was next to both Henrietta and Eunmi. The girl with the shinai was nervous once more, causing N to frown. A timid nature was not suitable for a candidate. He needed more courage than that.
“You have two very nice pokemon,” N told Eunmi while putting his hands into his pockets. “Although your Smeargle wishes that you’d call him D-Vee instead-"
And then Goliath walked outside, causing N to almost reel back in shock. A Machamp wearing clothing? "Did...did you do that to yourself?" N asked the Machamp in a semi horrified voice.
****
Salieri winced when she heard Wayne hit the ground. She leaned over through the hole to try and see him. "You okay down- crap, he's getting away! Salem!"
The Battle Girl jumped in after Wayne with her Eevee following, and broke out into a sprint immediately from landing. Even Salem was impressed with her trainer's speed. The small girl was quite nimble, in a way reminiscent to her Pansage.
But Wayne had hid in the grass when Salieri lost track of him. Luckily, there was only one way out, and that was through the door. So that was where he had to be headed. "Hidden-"
And then the Magical Leaf attack was sprung on them, and Salieri rolled out of the way to the side. "Split up!" she ordered to Salem as the leaves stormed their way towards them. The trainer and pokemon dodged among the tall grass, but the leaves swerved around to attack once more.
It tracks us? Damn, that's a useful move! Salieri wanted to pick up Salem in her arms so she could do the running while Salem did the attacking. But she knew that wouldn't be a proper way to play this game of tag. Not if she wanted to gain any power out of it, anyway.
"Cover us!" she ordered, and Salem complied. As the leaves came up behind them, Salem tilted her head back and let loose another burst of Hidden Power. The orb collided with the swarm of leaves and burned them up, showering a sparkly residue over the grass. Salem stopped for a moment to appreciate the sight.
[Oooh, that's pretty,] she said as she tilted her head to the side, but was snapped out of her trance by her trainer's whistle. She spun on her heels to run up to Salieri, who was making for the open door. The Magical Leaf distraction provided Wayne with enough time to gain more of a lead. If they didn't hurry up, they'd lose him.
Fortunately, Wayne and Petilil were still running down the hall by the time Salieri and Salem had entered. It's time to see how Salem's aim is on the go. "Blast away!"
As she ran, Salem fired multiple red spheres of solar power from her mouth down the corridor at Wayne and Petilil. They weren't especially strong, just in case she hit Wayne by mistake. But they were numerous, filling up a large portion of the hall as they sped towards their targets from behind.

((Who else is battling the Gym now? Can I go ahead and fight the gym too or are the three leaders still occupied?))
After a trip to the Dream Yard, and a short visit to the Pokemon Center, Winterson and the team decided to go to the square, trying to see if there would be anything worth his while before he challenged the gym. There, he sat by a bench, and allowed for his Pokemon to play around. In his hand, a box of blue colored poffins with pink sprinkles on top - his specialty. He would split the thing in two, and give it to his Pokemon as they played.

((Chili is taken, so if you want to battle the gym you'll have to pick either your Purrloin or your Panpour.))
So the Purrloin was finally gone. Henrietta looked to N as he by them.
"H-hum?" Wait, what did he say about Eunmi's Smeargle? Even though she'd just arrived it felt like he'd communicated with it somehow. If he could do that then-
N's shock at Goliath caused Henrietta to turn to the entrance to see the Machamp. With an 'eep' at the Pokemon she'd never seen before she took a step back.
It sure had become crowded here..
"I-i should go train," she said and she turned away from the trio and set off in the only direction she could,(Eunmi stands on one side, Goliath on another, N on another), turning her head to say "s-sorry," one last time.

"Oh! The passionate flame of fire flir-- wait, flirting?" Chili's shocked face went blaze-red. "L-let's just get on with the battle, shall we?"
The gym's computers quickly calculated David's statistics based on his trainer card. His years training, his total number of badges, battles, win/loss ratios; when it was done it selected an appropriate pokémon for David to do battle with, one that had the right level of experience and skill.
With a voomph noise, a pokéball shot out of the metal pipe at Chili's side. He snatched the ball from the air and brought it out in front of him.
"Yeeeeow! I'm burning up! Who do we have to battle today?!" Chili cried, throwing his pokéball onto the field. It exploded with a burst of light and a Pansear materialised on the pitch. He stood standing slouched, his paws hidden within tufts of fur that resembled pockets, his teeth showing through an angry-looking expression. He sneered at Cubchoo then shot a look around at Chili, as if demanding to know why he'd been called into battle.
"Ahhh, this one really dampens my spirits..." Chili muttered to himself, sighing. He shook his head, clearing it of doubt, then stood up tall and commanding, pointing out towards David, "Okay! Listen up! Since you're the challenger here, you get to make the first move! Don't get complacent! Out of the three Striaton City gym leading brothers--" he swung a thumb around into his chest, grinning confidently, "I'm the strongest."
The loudspeaker beeped once then said, '[Battle begin.]'
***
((edit: blaargh, I can't believe I forgot to write this part, sorry Jump))
Wayne's face dropped when he looked back and saw Salem's attack. He didn't have time to count them, only note that they were way, way faster than he was. And Petilil. Once again, her speed had been cut thanks to being out of the direct sunlight.
"Grab hold!" he shouted, extending his arm to the grass type and ducking through a doorway. The door swung outwards and was blasted from its hinges by Salem's strike, leaving the splintered edges glowing and hot. Wayne caught his breath, commanding Petilil to use another growth while he stuck his head out to check Salieri's progress. He spared the time to cheekily stick his tongue out at her before darting back out of view.
Petilil's strength had increased further and Wayne clambered up a nearby metal stairwell. The room they were in spanned multiple floors with a staircase joined to the edges of the room. Like a spiral staircase but square. Running down the middle were machines and contraptions closed off by metal plating, affording something to hide behind as they ran up the stairs to the next floor.
As they reached the higher level, above and opposite the door they'd entered through, Wayne and Petilil stopped and the trainer ordered "Mega Drain!" which manifested as a spiral-shaped arm of green light, which passed easily through the gaps in the metal stairwell. Wayne had checked Salieri's running speed when he stuck his head out (assuming she was just running in a straight line at him) and hoped to have timed it right so that the Mega Drain would hit Salem just as they turned through the doorway.
Assuming something went wrong and it struck Salieri instead, Wayne himself would step in front of the attack to stop Petilil from using it further. He was at least confident that the staircase would offer a good level of protection against any of Salem's attacks.

"Ne ne, are you sure he went this way?" Tk nagged as Spike pulled him closer and closer towards the dream yard.
[How times to i have to repeat my self, yes!] snapped the mole pokemon, though all TK could hear was it repeating its name over and over, though he knew Spike was getting mildly irritated with his constant nagging. Having Cooled off from early-er, TK went from frustrated and frantic to frustrated and impatient. He hated not knowing where his pokemon were.
After nearly 15 minutes of searching both TK and Spike spotted Lancer in the middle of the path looking around as if he had lost something. "LANCER! where were you!?" Takamaru Yelled as he ran and picked up his pokemon. "Kar Kar Blast Blast blast!" replied the pokemon.
[i was pursuing a strange man with a P on his chest, but once he entered the dream yard i Lost him!] replied the small insect pokemon, only to be rewarded with a confused look from His trainer. [ugh, it would be so much more convenient if you understood poke-speech like N] finished Lancer
[i know right!] chimed in Spike
As his two pokemon conversed Takamaru led them back to the pokemon center.
--
Once back at the Pokemon center, the silver haired trainer went to the front desk to retrieve Iron Hide. After which he purchased dinner for the four of them and retreated back to the park to eat their dinner.
While eating, Takamaru thought oer the days events. He had won the trio Badge, meet with a Teen who could understood pokemon speech, lost and found his Beloved Karrablast, Lancer and was now eating supper in the park. 'isn't traveling grand?' He thought as he finished his sandwich and started on his fried eggs.

Dave smiled to his Pokemon. "Alright, Cicero, your Powder Snow won't be that effective, so let's play the defensive! Use Growl, then follow up with Double Team!" The small cub released a loud, piercing squeak that distorted the air around it, then wobbled around for a bit, creating three extremely skinny, deformed clones of itself. Dave shook his head with a grin, thinking back to the night before.
-The previous evening-
Dave slid the Disc into his Pokedex. "Double Team. The Pokemon creates copies of itself to increase it's evasiveness" He looked down at his newest Pokemon. "Alright Cicero, let's put this move to use little buddy! Use Double Team, then follow up with Powder Snow!" The tiny Pokemon looked up at his opponent, Goliath, then wobbled a bit, creating a large, morbidly obese clone of itself. Dave shook his head, chuckling, as Goliath dodged the Powder Snow attack, having easily kept his focus on the real Cicero. "Awesome job, Cicero, you've got the technique down, now we just need to hone it a little. Don't worry, you'll do awesome at Striaton Gym tomorrow, I promise!"

N stumbled backwards and almost tripped on the invisible Zero, who backed up to avoid being accidentally stepped on. "Thats'...that's..."
The green haired boy clutched his stomach. He felt like he was going to puke. The pokemon was wearing human clothing? What a horrific world he lived in!
"I have to go it was nice meeting you all," he blurted out quickly while walking away with a quickened pace. The Illusion around his Zorua that rendered it invisible flickered for a moment, and if someone was paying attention they could probably see the Zorua rolling her eyes. She thought N was being melodramatic.
****
Wayne's split second taunt only fueled Salieri's drive as she ran even faster to catch up, and Salem quickened her pace as well. She curved her run to follow into the room Wayne ducked into, and saw the green glow from the Mega Drain coming from above. She recognized the glow from Wayne's battle with Henrietta's Litwick. So he's above us. We'll have to speed up then if we want to win this game of tag!
"Full speed ahead!" Salieri barked as she ran her fastest through the doorway. She ducked her head down as Salem sued Quick Attack to dart through the doorway. Salem had made it through in time, and Salieri was cutting it close.
The Battle Girl burst off of the ground in a powerful leap, and the Mega Drain whizzed underneath her to attack the ground. For a second, the felt some of her energy disappear, as if it was being pulled out of her body. But the feeling faded quickly as Salem reached the stairs.
"Time to fly!"
Salem jumped up and off of the stairwell towards Salieri, who was whipping one of her legs at Salem. In a fleeting moment, the Eevee landed lightly on her trainer's leg. With a loud yell, Salieri kicked up and out at Wayne and Petilil, shooting Salem off of her leg as Salem jumped off with a Quick Attack.
The force cause Salieri to drop back down on the ground, and the skidded backwards from the force of Salem's takeoff. If she ran up the stairs now, she wouldn't catch up if Wayne kept running. Which meant that she'd have to find another way up. Salieri started running again, this time jumping off of one of the large metal chambers in the center of the room to a higher point on the staircase. She panted for a moment, as even though the girl was in excellent physical shape the maneuvers she had just pulled were tiring. Going from full speed to rocketing a pokemon off of your leg could be exhausting.
As Salem reached the height of Wayne and Petilil, she opened her mouth and attacked with more Hidden Power fireballs. A couple of seconds later she'd land on the banister and her trainer would turn the corner and catch up on the stairs and continue running to try and catch Wayne.

Well wasn't this obvious? Chili thrust his finger forward dramatically as he commanded Pansear to use "Flame Burst!", the pokémon's knowledge of the attack owed to David's prior accomplishments; if he hadn't been a trainer for so long then he'd be facing a less experienced Pansear.
Either way, a ball of flame would explode in Cicero's vicinity. Though it aimed for a direct hit, the move would detonate regardless, generating several large tongues of flame that would utterly swamp and destroy each of Cicero's Double Team clones. A rain of flame. As each tongue struck either a clone, Cicero or the ground, it'd explode again into a shower of smaller flames, which would in turn explode the next time they made contact with something.
Cicero itself was weak to Fire, so even without direct contact Chili was betting that the sheer heat from the flames would smother its chances at retaliating; it'd be too caught up in the heat stinging every part of its body to act properly.
Of course, as Pansear began his attack when Cicero used Growl, the explosion of fire would be reaching Cicero just as it finished creating its Double Team clones. Chili reckoned that it wouldn't be able to move in time to avoid his attack, not right after using a technique it wasn't experienced with performing.

Cicero cringed as the attack came at him, then ran around in circles as he was burned by the flames. Dave frowned, worried about the state of his friend, but held his position, remembering his promise. "Keep it up, little buddy! Use Powder Snow to dampen the flames as much as possible, then Bide!" He knew the type disadvantage would make this a very difficult match, especially given Cicero's inexperience, but he had confidence in the abilities of his friend. The pokemon snorted its runny nose up, still feeling the effects of it's burn, then sneezed, sending out a flurry of sparkly blue powder from his nose, putting out most of the flames but melting at the same time. He ran toward the Pansear, glowing white as he prepared to absorbed any attack that would come his way.

Well that was good. Bide meant that Cicero wouldn't be using any other attacks for a while. No more Powder Snows helping it survive. That was good. The pokémon had taken damage from the Flame Burst and was now on its last legs. Bide might have been a good idea if Cicero were still at full health, but it wasn't.
"You've been brought down to a simmer, my friend!" Chili grinned, bowing his head. The Pansear he was using grumbled, glaring at the gym leader from the corner of its eye. Then it turned its attention back to its foe. Running at him? What did it intend to do when it reached him? Bide wouldn't allow the pokémon to make any more moves for a while yet. So it was simple.
[You,] Pansear said in a language only pokémon could understand, [can never reach me.]
He allowed Cicero to come in close, to a point where he couldn't just dart out of the way. Then he unleashed hellfire right in the baby bear's face through the use of "Flame Burst!" Chili really doubted the opponent could dodge this one.
The experience difference between the two pokémon was vast. Pansear, a specially trained gym pokémon, held the type and power advantage. Now his weakened foe, susceptible to his attacks no less, was running right into shot. Bide only worked if you survived the onslaught that you invited by using it. It wasn't like Endure. After taking one attack already, it'd be a miracle to survive this second.

"Ughh..." Wayne grumbled as he felt his energy leave him. It was only for an instant but he'd stepped in as soon as Salieri was even slightly struck by Mega Drain. He'd actually been caught in it longer than she had.
But Salem was up and at them, yet again launching Hidden Powers. But of course. Wayne, in the split second it took to register the attack, also registered something else about the cute little fluffy thing. He managed a grin, reading the technique and realising that it wasn't going to be aimed at him; he swooped in and grabbed Petilil up by her sides. The trainer ducked down, swerving around the outside of the fire ball attack and aiming Petilil down the stairs like a gun.
"Mega Drain!" he commanded; the resulting blast of light large enough to swamp the section of the staircase that Salem was in; it'd catch her if she jumped up and if she went low, while the banister she'd landed on would be right in the middle of the attack. She could perhaps avoid too much damage if she jumped by getting above the move, though with the timing it was doubtful she'd avoid damage completely; same with going low, since she'd have to drop through the move to reach the floor and cling to the steps.
She didn't like getting hit. Wayne had completely forgotten until just now. And no one conversation with a green haired nutjob was going to reverse her attitude just like that.
"But make it short," the trainer added and Petilil would stop quickly. He didn't want to hurt Salieri if she got hit too. And his goal here was to land a hit on Salem and buy time to escape. And escape he would attempt. By running through the door near him and out into the next area; now on the second floor it became a maze of corridors and empty rooms.
Wayne sped through, Petilil at his side, keeping up with him easily now even without the Chlorophyll boost. He didn't keep track of the directions he ran in; it was a blur of left and right turns. Eventually the trainer stopped and put his back to the wall, heaving for breath. He glanced down wearily at his pokémon, who looked back at him anxiously. The corridor they were in now was long and abandoned, only a drinks cooler remaining from its prior habitation.
The trainer looked up and about, spying something mighty interesting. A vent shaft. He grinned, remembering how in movies they always used the vents to sneak by. He'd always wanted to try that for real. Hurrying in case Salieri was hot on his trail, the trainer leapt up, grabbing the open top and scrambling into the hole in the ceiling. It wasn't some metal vent hanging from above, but one built into the building itself; much more sturdy, easily able to take his weight. Wayne held out his hand and Petilil grabbed on.
Moving would be noisy, so he slid to avoid banging. Wayne hoped there'd be a grill overlooking Salieri so he could see her running around for him aimlessly. As Petilil and he crawled through the vent, they kept looking for a way outside or into an interesting looking room.

((Awwww poor doggy sad ))
"There has to be something you're not telling me, Salem. Please, I'm trying to help you."
Salem looked down at the ground. As much as N didn't want to look into the eyes of another trainer, she did not want to look into his. [Salieri is not my first trainer. I used to be all alone on the streets of the city until I met someone else like me.]
N didn't respond right away. Salem could see him going over the information, so she continued. [There were just two rules when we lived on the streets. Run fast and don't stop. If you get hit you're dead. That's what he told me everytime time we went to get food.]
“How did you get food?”
[We stole. We were a couple of thieves. I’m not proud of what I did-]
“But you did it to survive.
Salem nodded at N. [We were running away from someone once, and he got caught. I went back for him, but he kept telling me to run. He kept throwing things at me…he really wanted me to leave. That’s the last time I ever saw my old trainer.]
She stomped the ground in front of her defiantly. [You would run too, wouldn't you?]
A simple story. Or at least a simplified version. Surely there was more to it, but N could see it was painful for Salem to recount. Yet it did provide a reason for her not to take a hit: survival instinct. You run, you live. You stand your ground and you could be dead. [And don't you tell Salieri!] Salem yelped, whipping her mood from nostalgic to threatening quickly. N smiled sadly and reached down to pet the top of the Eevee's head.
"Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me."
****
The Mega Drain attack was coming in. Salem couldn't even think about progressing. The only think she could think of was how to dodge. And the only way to do it was to Quick Attack off of the banister. Even a Detect would make her do the same thing at this range, and she valued the move far too much to waste it's power points here.
”Run!”
Now she was frozen. It was time to run, wasn’t it? But if she ran she’d be going backwards. Progress would be lost. Wayne and Petilil would get away.
”RUN, DAMNIT!”
So that was it, then. Salem had to run. She bent down her legs and prepared to spring off of the banister to the floor below with a Quick Attack. She’d be able to run back up, she was sure of it. She could make up for this. As long as she didn’t get hit, she’d be okay.
Petilil would feel some energy invigorate her as the attack made contact. Salem froze in place, and then turned to see she shadow that now loomed above her. Salieri had her arms spread out wide, and he head down while she grit her teeth. She opened her mouth, and steam poured out.
“…the hell, Salem,” she mumbled, and as soon as she did she dropped to her knees. Salieri reached for the banister for support. Wayne’s Petilil sure packed a punch. She’d have to compliment it on it’s power after the game was over, now that she knew it’s strength first hand.
Salem jumped off of the banister as Saleri propped herself up against the stairwell., panting. Her energy was returning too slowly. At this rate, Wayne’s lead would be too great. The Eevee pouted in front of her trainer. This was her fault, wasn’t it? If she hadn’t been so indecisive, Salieri wouldn’t have taken the attack.
“Vee…” she apologized, bowing her head down. Salieri turned her head slowly to Salem with heavy breathing.
“If you…don’t learn how to stand up…” she told Salem in a hoarse yet stern voice, “then you’ll fall to anything! I don’t know what your problem is Salem, but I just…”
Sal stopped short. What was she going to say? That Salem was a disappointment? No, that she wasn’t good enough to stay on the team. Sorry Salem, guess it’s back to the streets for you. It’s been fun.
“I just need to try harder, then.”
The Battle Girl clambered to her feet, sharply inhaling as she did so. “C’mon, we have to keep moving.” Salem’s feet were stuck in one place. Sal turned her head back and growled. “I said let’s go.”
With a gulp, Salem nodded and bounded after her trainer, although she avoided looking into Salieri’s eyes. How shameful. She had told Salieri she’d get it right, and she failed. All I can do is run…
With her energy sapped by Mega Drain, Salieri wasn’t running at full speed anymore and was reduced to a jog. It didn’t matter though, because Wayne’s lead was pretty big. She could hear his running footsteps, but there were so many turns he made that Salieri wasn’t sure if she was even going in the right direction.
“Damnit,” she said as she stopped short, and Salem bumped into her calf. Wayne’s footsteps had stopped. She had heard some sort of loud, metallic noise beforehand but now the sounds were all but gone. Where’d they go? They’re in here somewhere… she thought as she felt dust land on her nose. She twitched before sneezing loudly. “HAAACHOOOO!”
Salem winced and Salieri sighed, but then a look of realization came across her face as she looked up for a second. The dust had come from the vents, which meant that something was moving up there. One guess as to who it could have been.
Of course, blasting at the ceiling of a dilapidated building they were still inside was a reckless move. Salieri presumed the vents had some sort of exit point, and that would probably be the only safe way out for Wayne. She turned down to Salem. “How hot do you think that Hidden Power can get?”
****
And a few seconds later, Salem was balanced atop of Salieri’s head precariously, on Salieri teetered on a large piece of rubble to gain the height necessary to boost Salem to the vents. Hidden Power was forming at her mouth, but the charged orb was not leaving it's place. Instead, it's radiance seeped into the vents and the cracks in the ceiling.
The solar energy was beginning to heat up the old vents. Soon, they’d either be overheated or break down from age. But either way, Salieri was trying to force Wayne to move so she could track him down once more. She listened for his movement, preparing to dart in whatever direction she thought he’d take off in.

((She's okay now. Just travel sickness, I guess))
He'd been crawling for a few minutes now. Hands and knees, slowly but surely. At one point he'd managed to spot Salieri jogging beneath him through a vent grate. He was glad that she hadn't just given him up to crawl around in vents like an idiot. Still, it had been quite for a while now.
"Phew," he said to himself in a hushed whisper, wiping his forehead with the back of his hand, "You okay Petilil?"
But Petilil wasn't okay. She let out a weak whine of her name, "Peti~~lil..." and sloped after her trainer, an exhausted expression on her face.
"Uh oh," Wayne muttered, "Here I thought plants liked humidity."
A sharper yet no less upset whine sounded from the grass type and Wayne shut up immediately. Right. Grass types technically aren't plants. Wayne remembered thinking otherwise as a child and being deathly frightened at the prospect of sentient grass.
"Should, err, probably-" the trainer began to feel lightheaded, "Aw man, where is this heat coming from?"
He continued through the maze of joining shafts, looking about at intersections and feeling the air on his skin. He'd make sure to go in the direction that felt the most drafty. He was in luck that the fans you'd expect to find were out of order; they'd have likely had him going around in circles otherwise. Eventually Wayne saw light to go with the breeze and found the end of the vents. Or at least one of them.
White streamed through the grill ahead, stinging the trainer's eyes. Sweat glued his clothes to his body and he felt like he was going to pass out. Petilil wasn't faring much better either and every now and then Wayne had to push her along. Hopefully she'd feel better once he got her into sunlight. He poked his fingers through the grill, feeling natural light on them for the first time in what felt like an age. Not managing to so much as budge it, Wayne withdrew his hand and sighed, beads of sweat dribbling down his temple.
"Ugh... I'm cooking..." he blathered and then spoke to his pokémon, "Hey, try Magical Leaf again. Please?"
"Til," Petilil nodded as Wayne made way. She braced herself and slung a trio of leaves directly at the grate. It didn't budge but there was a bang bang bang as the leaves struck, landed and then turned into dust.
"Keep trying," Wayne said quickly. The sound was bound to attract Salieri and if she caught him then he'd lose the battle. He doubted that she'd get inside the vent to go after them but she could definitely box them in for a checkmate.
Petilil used Magical Leaf again and again, each time with an improved form, learning how to better put her power into it. Once they were able to train normally, all they'd have to do is practice with her control until chasing the enemy became automatic.
Bangbangbang.
Bangbangbang.
Bangbangbangchunk.
"Alright!" Wayne grinned and rubbed the top of Petilil's head in excited celebration. The grate had been forced away a little bit, the corner screw torn right out of its brace. Wayne tested it with his hand then had Petilil launch another volley, which blew the metal crosshatch right off the wall where it flew into the quad below.
Wayne stuck his head out for a gasp of clean, fresh air. He quickly surveyed their surroundings and recognised it as the quad he'd passed through earlier, with its four patches of grass split by a cross shaped walkway in the middle. One of the giant glass tubes that ran around the walls was a small drop below where the trainer and pokémon were.
"Okay," Wayne plucked up his courage and began to push himself out. For a second his imagination ran away and he pictured himself as a fully grown baby being born from the building. Petilil stood back to avoid being inadvertently kicked by her trainer's flailing feet. He hooked his hand around the edge of the vent, holding tight as he pulled his legs out, dangled and landed feet first on the glass tube.
Time and weathering had taken their toll; while the tube looked thick and sturdy, it easily shattered under Wayne's weight and the trainer fell through with a loud smash. Petilil scurried to the edge and looked down, panic stricken for a moment.
"I'm okay," Wayne moaned from the empty innards of the giant tube, "the glass shards broke my fall..."
He grunted and forced himself back up to his feet. He'd been lucky to avoid getting sliced or impaled. Some of the larger shards looked particularly threatening. He came away with some minor cuts on his arms and was careful to avoid getting any on his fingers as he pulled himself up and on top of the glass tube.
"C'mon, Petilil! I'll catch you!" he shouted up and the grass type backed off. "Petilil!"
She shook her head and hid from view. Wayne looked up at the hole in the wall and frowned.
"Alright, you find another way out and I'll meet you! If you run into Salem try using whichever move seems best, alright!" Wayne almost immediately received an answer in the form of Petilil's hurried cry as she went down the warm shaft. The sun's warm glow had managed to reenergize her; without having to go at Wayne's pace she'd be able to move about a lot better in the vents.
Okay. Wayne huffed and jumped from the glass and onto the ground. Alright, where would Petilil be? He remembered his dad telling him to follow his instincts. It was hard to just switch off thinking normally for something like that though; you'd always second guess yourself even if you didn't want to. He felt like going left. But really where was the logic in that? They'd come from that side of the building when crawling through the vents.
He went right.
Shuffling through the grass reminded him of playing hide and seek with the wild pokémon near Village Bridge. There didn't seem to be any living here in the depths of the research facility. He'd seen a few in the natural grass around its outer edges but he had the feeling there was something different about this stuff. It was overgrown but had definite edges to it. Like it was manufactured to be this way; shaped into perfect square patches.
"Pftheleth!" he spat as a blade went into his open mouth. Wayne smeared it off the back of his arm before smelling something sweet. What was that? He looked about, not noticing the ground around his feet getting hazy. He'd been wading through this tall grass for a while now but he wasn't reaching the walkway. How much further was it now? He'd been going in a straight line.
Shashashashashashasha
"Huh?"
Shashashashashashasha
"What the hell is that?"
"It's called Kyurem," she said, leaning back with her arms folded, "Everyone around here knows about Kyurem." "Huh. Well I don't know about it," Wayne said with his hands behind his head. "Duh, you're not from around here," she shook her head with a raised eyebrow, "c'mon this way, I'll show you."
She led him up the city's steps and streets. Large stone staircases that were hard to climb; Wayne assumed that people in this town were either really fit or didn't bother to move about much. Eventually they reached the highest point in town, overlooking the rest; they were higher than the tallest building and could see above the forests for miles around.
"See that in the distance? That's called the Giant Chasm," she pointed over to some misty ridge to the north. Wayne squinted but he failed to spot much of anything. He looked back to her. She kept her black hair at shoulder length, her eyes grey yet piercing. It had been those piercing eyes that first caught his attention. And the strong, confident way she moved. He started to blush.
"Tess, err," he started then trailed off, kicking the railing lightly.
"Kyurem lives at the Giant Chasm. It descended on a meteorite hundreds of years ago," Tess recounted, looking up at the stars, "people around here don't like going out at night. They're all afraid." "Afraid? Of what?" "Kyurem, obviously. It eats people." Wayne's face dropped. "That's why nobody wants to try and catch it. They all believe the old wives' tales and legends. But nobody's been 'eaten' in decades. Even so, they're still scared." "Pokémon eating people, huh?" Wayne leant against the railing by his crossed arms, head resting on them, "I guess it's possible. Not something I wanna think about though." He pulled a face.
"Tsh. Pokémon lover," Tess smirked and Wayne looked away. "There's nothing wrong with loving pokémon," Wayne muttered.
"Yeah? But do you love me? Do you? You never play with me anymore! Never ever! Never ever ever ever!"
"Why can't I play with the pokémon like youuu?" "Aw, c'mon, Katie," Wayne lay back on the grass with his legs folded, "you know mom gets reaaaally mad if I let you near wild pokémon." "But you play with them!" the four year old stomped her foot, "I wanna play with them too! I want to!" "Whoaaa!" Wayne span around, bringing his crossed legs beneath him as he smoothly sat up and held out his arms, "calm down! We can play! What do you wanna play?" "Growlie!" "Growlie?" "Yep! I'm a Growlie!" Katie announced, diving into her brother's chest and knocking him back, "Yap! Yap yap yap!" and licked his face.
Laughing, Wayne held her back, rolling up. He looked her in the eye and grinned, "They're called Growlithe." "Growliff?" "Th. Thhhh." "Wayne," she put her hands on her hips, "you're treating her like a child."
"She am a child!" Wayne protested, "What's wrong with babying her a little? She's two years old. Chances are she won't even remember it anyway." "He's got a point," said dad from his position leaning against the wall, a bored look on his face. "You don't know what she'll remember," mom said back with a frown, "and you can be quiet." "Whatever," dad muttered, hands in his pockets, "I'm gonna go check on her. Make sure she's not choking on something." "Cool! I'll go too!" the younger Wayne said, jumping down from the table but was soon stopped. Mom leant forward, her incredible breasts threatening to abandon her top. "I'm sorry for snapping," she said quietly, "you know how it is." "Dad said you're on a permanent period," Wayne said innocently. Well. Not quite innocently. "He said what?!"
"What?" "I said 'what'. As in 'what the hell did you just say?'" Tess said through the video link, a frown on her face. "I... you know what I said." "Releasing your pokémon cause some freak in a knight's outfit told you to isn't something I wanted to hear. What are you, stupid? I know you're gullible but that's really pushing it." "They said pokémon didn't want to be with humans like that. If I released them then they could make up their own minds!" "And you bought it?" Tess pinched her brow, "Alright. Okay. I'll send you the Hitmonlee I got recently. It's had some training at a dojo but it's only basic. You're gonna have to teach it anything decent yourself." "Really? Thanks, babe. I really, really owe you one!"
Tess smirked.
You bet you do.
Wayne.
You can't even control Hitmonlee. Can you?
"No," Wayne muttered, clenching his fist, "I can't."
And why is that? You love pokémon, don't you? I thought you did but... well. It looks like they don't love you. Not as much as you'd convinced yourself. Those pokémon you released, where are they now?
"I don't know."
Who's to blame for their escape then? It's what they wanted, isn't it? Or do you still blame Plasma? They were right all along, weren't they?
"No."
Ha! Still in denial. Fine. Wayne.
Wayne.
Waaaaayne.
There's only one reason why your pokémon didn't come back to you. Why Hitmonlee refuses to listen to your commands. You know what it is. You've acknowledged then ignored it to preserve your own world view. What's the answer, Wayne? Who's in the wrong?
"I... am..."
Yes.
"...not gonna listen to any more of your bullshit!" Wayne punched his fist into his palm and the mist scattered. He found himself at the centre of the crossroads, thick grass in every direction. Back in the quad. The trainer looked about, for a second wondering how much time had passed. He was still in his battle against Salieri, right? Had he passed out? The trainer shook his head, getting his bearings. He'd been moving in one direction, trying to meet up with Petilil. Had he been misguided? He asked himself again; which way do I go? He didn't second-guess.
He went left.

Petilil hurried through the vent shafts, the metal walls around her a blur. Maybe it was because she was a grass type but she could sense the grass-filled quad even if she couldn't see it. She used that strange sensation to keep her direction straight, even amongst all the twists and turns.
And it was hot. So very, very hot. At least to her it was; why couldn't they be somewhere nice? A lush forest maybe? Somewhere that wasn't made of nasty metal and heat.
She found a grill part way down a shaft. Another one. She dealt with this one like all the rest; by increasing her forwards momentum as she shot off the magical leaf she could increase its power. The grill didn't stand a chance. With a loud bang and a clatter it was blown from its bolts and rattled in the vent. Petilil scurried by, looking about for the right way.
Sooner or later, she'd find it. Blowing a final grill from its fixings, she'd screech to a halt and stand on the edge of the vent, overlooking the next room. What were all these weird devices? She was never that good when it came to human technology. She was much more at home in natural environments. Wayne was good though. He could do anything. He was so smart. He could use a telephone and a microwave and a computer. All those flashing lights and screens and he knew what they all meant.
But now she was alone. She didn't know that the giant vats placed down the middle of the long room were filled with gunk and leftovers from experiments. That the metal lids on top of them would slide open if you pressed a button on the consoles next to them. She went slowly down the walkway, looking about. She'd popped out of the wall to get into this room but there was a door right near the vent opening, leading out onto the walkway that overlooked the vats; where Petilil was now. There were stairs leading down at the other end of the walkway platform and when you got onto the ground floor all the walls were made of glass leading into an outdoor area.
Outdoors? That, by definition, was better than this stinky old building and whatever those big bins were. Petilil ran for the exit as fast as she could manage without a Chlorophyll boost.

Dave had a frantic expression as the Cubchoo was hit with the full blast of the attack, knocking him across the arena. The tiny pokemon whimpered and shook as it lay there. "Cicero, use your Salac Berry, then outrun the flames until your Bide is ready!" He knew that his pokemon was weak enough now to feel the full effects of the berry's speed boost. Cicero hastily got up, wincing at it's burn as he swallowed his berry whole, this time ready to dodge out of the way at any incoming attacks.

[Is that guy joking? Outrun the explosion that happened in your face?] Pansear scratched the fur on his head angrily, feeling heat building up. He walked forward as Cicero consumed its berry, paw on his shoulder as he rotated the joint.
[It must be harsh having a dumbass as a trainer,] Pansear said.
"Go on Pansear! You can do it!"
[Believe me, I know,] he shook his head. Cicero was just biding his time now. He'd have to release his attack any second. [Fine. You wanna keep fighting to please an idiot, that's your own business,] he pointed to the Cubchoo, [but stay the hell outta my way.]
The pokémon stomped the ground and a blast of sparks flew; a small explosion that wrapped itself around its owner, sinking into his body. "Flame Charge!" was a technique that recycled the heat energy generated during a collision and used it to power up the user's speed. Even though Cicero's speed had risen by two stages, it'd only take Pansear one use of the technique to achieve a comparable speed. Based on max stats anyway, which assumes that Cicero has been specifically trained for speed; otherwise Pansear is still faster.
Dashing forward with enhanced movements, Pansear aimed to rush up to the tiny cub, who hadn't decided to create distance after eating its berry. It'd take a split second. Then Pansear would aim to grab Cicero's arms and force them away, creating an opening on the ice type's chest, making sure to keep his own paws out of grabbing range.
If he was successful doing that then he'd immediately follow up with a Flame Burst. Judging by Cicero's berry usage, the cub was in low health. Another blast to the face would finish it off. Chili just hoped Bide wouldn't be ready in time. It was all or nothing.
((I modeled Pansear on Zack razz ))
