While wandering far from his parents' home, Aranel stumbled into a dangerous situation involving a mountain lion. His life was saved by a beautiful yet strangely clawed and feathered mare. Impulsively, he swore to serve her in payment of his life debt. So he became part of the Harpy Flock and personal pet of the elegant huntress Luinil. His Mistress treated him as a particularly favored male and encourage his exploration of his minor healing talents. While in the Flock, Aranel discovered the joy of 'wind dancing' while in flutter form. As the harpies honor such talents and he always was chivalrously respectful, he became one of the more tolerated males. During a horrible battle between the harpy flock and a group of gryhpons, Luinil was injured. Aranel risked his life to save hers, thus paying his life debt in full. Knowing he desired his freedom and that he would not betray the Flock, Luinil allowed Aranel to escape during the battle. He never knew that she was pregnant with his foals.
After fleeing the Flock, Aranel met up with a lovely kirin/wind mare who helped him readjust to a life of freedom. She also had been a parent, though, unlike him, she knew her children and guided them to adulthood. The two were ready to start a new chapter in their lives...together.
